Passing the baton
A baton for you! | |
I'm here to hand the traditional baton onto our newest admin, as it was handed to me by Aoidh in April. Congratulations and good luck. Here's a song from one of my favourite Canadian bands [1]... Passing the baton from the old mare to the fawn, it was out of line but it was fun, didn't you like the part just before the dawn?Spicy (talk) 20:37, 15 May 2023 (UTC) |
- And applause for your use of it in the case of user:Moon above the towers. Anyone who who can modify another editor's contribution with this kind of egregious profanity deserves very short shrift indeed. --𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 21:22, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Since I was pinged in this section I'll comment here instead of above, but a very well-earned congratulations to Wikipedia's newest admin! You are more than welcome to join the Wikipedia:Discord, particularly on the admin channel. As a new mop holder, it's nice to have a place to ask a quick admin-related question when needed. - Aoidh (talk) 22:52, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Aoidh thanks! I've been on Discord for a while now, actually, I just don't chat very often. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 22:59, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I noticed that after I commented here. I forgot that you have to @ their name on a channel they have access to in order to see a user. I tried it from the wrong channel and didn't see you at first. I've asked the Discord moderators to give you the right admin tag, so come say hi when you have a chance :) - Aoidh (talk) 23:24, 15 May 2023 (UTC)
- Adding my congratulations. Glad to have had the chance to support. Best wishes. Donner60 (talk) 03:21, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Sorry about reverting the vandalism on the Sonic Underground page, I should have looked at it more - your initial reversion was accurate. What did you mean by "see the user's filter log"? I do not know how to do this. ButterCashier (talk) 14:45, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
- @ButterCashier: if you go to the user's contributions, there's a link at the top which says "filter log". If you click on this, it shows all the edits the user attempted to make. I use a user script to show filter hits in a user's contributions. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 14:52, 16 May 2023 (UTC)

Your edit filter
Hello @Ingenuity! I wanted to thank you for getting involved around edit filters, as I have seen you created one. I also saw you set it to disallow. In most cases, setting filters to disallow requires consensus at the noticeboard. If you would like to keep your filter at disallow, please at least change the name to specify what is actually being disallowed. I am worried that this filter will cause many false positives and that it was not community approved. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 01:18, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hey, @Illusion Flame. This filter's temporary, just to prevent some rapid proxy disruption. Don't worry, I'm keeping an eye on the filter hits. I'll disable it once the disruption has stopped. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 01:21, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Recently ( yesterday ) you deleted my article on a relative (Bidhali Currie), and I would just like to inform you that, even though the article supplied incorrect information, I just wanted to have a harmless bit of fun so I could see the look on his face when I asked his home-pod 'Who is Bidhali Currie?' Hello, Ingenuity,
I see you have come across WP:REFUND. In the past, I found checking in on this noticeboard and restoring deleted G13 drafts was one of the more enjoyable admin tasks there is to do. Although a great many requests don't lead to improvements to drafts, there is always the hope and the promise that some of these articles could eventually make it into main space. The main thing you'll find is that some new editors think that "G13" is a code word to restore any deleted article and they'll use it even when articles have been deleted for other reasons that don't allow for restoration.
But I'm writing this note to let you know about a script, User:SD0001/RFUD-helper, that makes the process of restoring drafts a bit easier. You might already be utilizing it but if not, I encourage you to try it out. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 19:20, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, Liz, I've installed that script now. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 20:44, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
Quick fixes for AbuseFilterContribs.js
Hey, tried out your script, but it apparently it doesn't work when the timezone offset is set to 0:00 (UTC).
See diff. In case there are some other settings that make for an unparseable timeoffset
, I added an offset of zero as a fallback.
I also wrapped the whole thing in an IIFE, because I don't want it clashing with my other scripts. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 21:45, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Suffusion of Yellow; I've fixed the script now. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 22:11, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi Ingenuity, you recently deleted File talk:Gut-logo.jpg as WP:CSD#F2, but I have restored the page. This criterion only applies to file description pages, not their corresponding talk pages. Previous discussions, most recently Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 81#File talk pages which consist only of boilerplates, wikiproject tags, and/or text which has been copied to Commons, did not find support to delete local talk pages of files hosted on Commons. ✗plicit 13:37, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

NPP
Hello Ingenuity! I see you are online and I wanted to get your opinion on my qualification for NPP. I talked to HJ, but he appears to be on a wiki break right now, so I thought I’d come to you. Here is what I told him:
Here’s how I come out on official requirements:
- The editor should be a registered Wikipedia user for at least 90 days.
- ~91 days
- The editor should have 500 undeleted edits to the Wikipedia mainspace that clearly demonstrate proficient knowledge of articles and page quality control.
- +1,300 edits
- The regular and consistent participation with Wikipedia processes - such as AfD, PROD, CSD (including CSD tagging), and AfC - will be particularly helpful in regards to demonstrating this knowledge.
- CSD tagged over 200 pages and most deleted. Occasionally participate in AFDs
- The editor should have a solid history that demonstrate proficiency with communicating and interacting with new users, and in a positive, civil, helpful, and appropriate manner.
- Teahouse host and VRT agent
- The editor should have experience with moving pages in accordance with guidelines.
- The editor should have no behavioral blocks or 3RR violations for a span of 6 months prior to applying.
- Clean block log.
- The editor must review pages solely on a volunteer basis.
- Will do
Thanks for taking the time to review this. If you feel I am qualified, please grant the rights, and if you feel I am not, please tell me why and how to improve. - 🔥𝑰𝒍𝒍𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒍𝒂𝒎𝒆 (𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒌)🔥 00:55, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Illusion Flame: I'm not going to grant NPR right now. Your CSDs are fine in general, but the vast majority aren't in mainspace. You also don't have much experience with AfD, PROD, or content creation. Before applying, I'd suggest participating in some more AfDs, doing some more new article patrolling and tagging, and writing some articles (you don't have to write many; just a few that are well formatted, well referenced, etc). Writing articles in particular is a great way to demonstrate your knowledge of various policies, like notability and MOS. Keep up the good work! — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 02:07, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello Ingenuity,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

However, the sockpuppet I engaged with in editwarring, has been blocked only for 1 month. Hence, my question to you is: don't you think that this decision seems at least to be very unjust, and not driven by a fair evaluation, keeping into account that i have never engaged in edit warring since the very first day i registered and contributed on EN wikipedia? The "guilty" guy aka Frukko (talk) 18:01, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- I initially blocked you for one day, trying to get you to discuss on the article's talk page. You didn't (and you still haven't). I'm also extremely unimpressed by the WP:LOUTSOCKing, which you engaged in even after you were blocked; I was seriously considering blocking you sitewide indefinitely. So no, I don't think my decision was "unjust"; I think you got off easy. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 18:38, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- May I disagree with you? I was not discussing on the article's talk page (my bad), that is true, but i was discussing on the user talk page [[5]] - it is not that i did not want to discuss on the article, just i was really nervous and i did not think of it anymore, I admit it. He provided sources which do not support what he was inserting in the article. Again I am not saying my block is unjust but why the user, his sockpuppet and other changes attempts without logging in, were not sanctioned in the same manner? Frukko (talk) 18:51, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- I would argue that a month-long sitewide block is more severe than an indefinite partial block from one article. Also, please don't accuse someone of being a sockpuppet; if you suspect someone of sockpuppetry, you can make a report at WP:SPI, listing the relevant evidence. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 19:01, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- I did not know there was a specific link i could report an alleged sockpuppet. However i reported him at this link [6] that is why the user was blocked and that is why I decided not to reply on the article's talk page. Anyway i just wanted to shed light on the whole incident, thanks for your frank feedback which i respect Frukko (talk) 19:11, 20 May 2023 (UTC)

Hiya, thanks for agreeing to take on the coding once again! As an admin (and a belated congrats, of course), would you be able to check over and send out the letter I've drafted at my sandbox? I'm aware you're busy, but be good to work together on this...! The lists of users to send it to are listed at the bottom, of course. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 17:43, 23 May 2023 (UTC) edit source
- Just another thought as well; as it's continuous (making it difficult to "sign up" to it like a backlog drive), would the leaderboard be able to only show those who have reviewed at least one article? In a backlog drive you might sign up, but not actually review anything - could the code only show those with at least one review? As I said earlier, not my area of expertise, so leaving this to you as the experienced one! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 19:22, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Ingenuity - just wondered if you had been able to write the code for this yet? Be good to trial it for June if possible...! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 11:35, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Mattdaviesfsic: I've started writing the code, but it'll still take a few days to finish. Plus I'll have to create a BRFA for it, which could take a while to get approved -- I have one that's been waiting for nearly a month. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 14:12, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Guess July/August would be better then! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 14:13, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi Ingenuity, didn't know if you had finished the code (etc) yet? I don't know if you would need to do another RFA for IngenuityBot since it is already approved? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mattdaviesfsic (talk • contribs)
- @Mattdaviesfsic: I'm almost done the code, but I'll still need to open another BRFA, since this is a different task than it was originally approved for. I'll try to do that in the next day or two. Hopefully, we should be good to start by July. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 01:27, 19 June 2023 (UTC)

Hi. You deleted all my hard work from this page which is focused on an amateur sporting organization in Ireland. Why? I was able to revert but this is extremely frustrating. I am putting a lot of work into this. Michaelfanad (talk) 09:08, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Michaelfanad. Like I said on your talk page, the content you are adding is not appropriate for an encyclopedia. Wikipedia is based on reliable, independent sources, not the personal testimony of someone who works for the club, and you are adding a massive amount of detail which isn't needed (see WP:SUMMARY). Since you have a conflict of interest with the club, you should not edit the page directly; instead, please post on the article's talk page and make edit requests, citing reliable sources for the changes you want made, and an editor will review your request. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 11:03, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Sockpuppet
Hello, Ingenuity,
I think User:Action Figure Disaster Flight 180 is a sockpuppet similar to one you blocked earlier this month (User:Dzx8x). But there is no information in the block notification or on the User page identifying who the sockmaster is so I have no way to inquire about this editor in a SPI case. So, I'm hoping you know more than I do and you can look over their contributions and see what you think. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 03:20, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Hi Liz, CU shows this is Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Jeremiah Caquias. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 03:31, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, Moneytrees, much appreciated for identifying this one. And it looks like there were a few more along with this account. I wish I had a better memory for sockmasters but it's a talent I lack. Your SPI clerks, on the other hand, seem to have an encyclopedic memory for the details of socks and their behavior. Liz Read! Vandalism and edit-warring
Hi, Ingenuity - I haven't the energy for this, but a prolific deleter is going to hundreds of articles and making dubious or harmful edits. Their edit history is almost nothing but red ink -- this ranges from huge deletes with minimal discussion (Cambodia) to small and petty edit-wars (Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart), possibly for years. It's this user. The majority this week has involved the website Find-a-Grave, which they have decided because it's non-reliable = totally untrue, and with no discussion or tag they are deleting any information on people's burials, something that involves death and I find very insensitive and distasteful. 1RightSider (talk) 00:57, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hey, @1RightSider. If you disagree with someone's edits, the first thing you should do is discuss with them on their talk page. However, Find a Grave is considered an unreliable source, and it should rarely be cited (see WP:FINDAGRAVE-EL), so their removals of this link are valid. As for the other links you've provided, I don't see anything bad; the first is them condensing an article that was tagged as "too long", and the second is them reverting a few times over a few days, which isn't a violation of the three-revert rule. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 01:09, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

AntiVandal suggestion
Hello. I was wondering if you could add {{Shared IP advice}} to warnings on an IP address' talk page (not registered users) when you revert their said edits via AntiVandal.
Note: Thank you for assigning me rollback rights, I appreciate it. 64andtim (chat) 23:01, 4 July 2023 (UTC)

- I do have one complaint @Ingenuity:. Locking the page is fine, but you should have done it in the WP:STATUSQUO version, the one that has been in the lead since 2013, and edited by dozens of experienced editors, including nearly a dozen administrators such as @RegentsPark, Abecedare, Vanamonde93, and El C:, not in the version that created the controversy Fowler&fowler«Talk» 09:31, 23 July 2023 (UTC)
- And are you going to disrespect a 17-year veteran of Wikipedia's South Asia-related articles, including the chief author of the FA India and the Mahatma Gandhi page by not responding @Ingenuity:? Fowler&fowler«Talk» 01:06, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Fowler&fowler: Admins can't decide which version is the "right" one, and length of an editor's tenure is not a factor in that decision. The article is only temporarily protected and I suggest you wait it out, patiently. RegentsPark (comment) 14:23, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- If I was an admin looking at this absolute mess, I wouldn't have the foggiest idea of which version to protect the page under. There have been a stupid amount of changes in the last few days, and I can't blame Ingenuity for just protecting it as it is. I would advise tagging everyone who has edited the page in the last week or whatever and having a civil discussion on the talk page. Any more edit warring and it will only be protected again. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 14:48, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- Well, yes the article's lead had flip-flipped in the week before it was locked by Ingenuity. But it had been invariant for the ten years before that. That is what I meant by WP:STATUSQUO. It is not rocket science. Don't get me wrong. I'm not looking for the article to be reopened for editing, for the same silliness will begin again. Far from it, I'm looking for it to be locked for a longer time, two weeks perhaps, in the version in which the lead had stayed from July 2013 until this edit on 17 July 2023. That's quite an inning for a precedent or last good version. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 14:57, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- I considered restoring a previous revision, but I wasn't sure what version; should it be the edit you suggested, or after the split, or some other revision? The important thing is that it doesn't contain vandalism, copyright violations, etc. The protection will only last for another day, so it doesn't really matter if the current version is the "right" one. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 18:57, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Suggested edits to the IdeaPad page
Hi. I work for Lenovo, the manufacturer of IdeaPad products. The current IdeaPad page has about 30+ sections and sub-sections about individual products. A lot of the information is out-dated, incomplete, etc. I was hoping to replace it with a single product table, similar to what is currently on the ThinkPad page. I've been following up for months am still not clear if any impartial editors support/oppose consolidating the 30+ product sections. I was wondering if you would be willing to take a look? Happy to provide more context, or help in any way I can. StuartGill (talk) 15:20, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
