WP:AFC Helper News
Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.
- AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
- The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.
Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Cheers, Primefac, via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:00, 16 February 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the nomination, but rarely have I seen such an underdeveloped article (no ref but a link to a copy of something else which doesn't support half of what it claims). It's better but not there yet, - actually far from there. I'll keep working, and hope that nobody will notice ;) - Could you check if you can support my nom for 20 Feb there, which also nobody noticed? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:27, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- I've found that sometimes, posting a nomination there spurs article improvements. Please feel free to continue improving! TJMSmith (talk) 14:13, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Sometimes, yes. I had no time yet, but will do, at least the recordings should be sources, and discogs is not regarded as reliable. - Thank you for Herwartz. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:47, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for the next, Eleonore Schönborn. I learned to not have red links in the infobox, how about you? - Now last year, when LouisAlain was with us, he would have created the 3 articles in 2 hours, but I'm slow (1 per day) and want to do a woman for women's month today (couldn't yesterday because a man died). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:42, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- I am happy to remove the redlinks. I was not aware of any policy avoiding redlinks in the infoboxes. TJMSmith (talk) 13:03, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not a policy-driven person, not sure myself ;) - just was reverted a few times when I had red links there --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:58, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Yelena Yesha, pioneer for Women in Tech
Hello TJ, I found you when I looked up Susan Gregurick: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_K._Gregurick She is someone similar to Dr. Yelena Yesha. I am trying to get Wikipedia to add Dr. Yesha because I feel she career achievements warrant inclusion.
Forbes magazine highlighted Dr. Yesha's accomplishments in technology in a two-part profile: Part I: Dr. Yelena Yesha: Meet The Tenacious Pioneer Pushing Innovation To Address Real World Problems
https://www.forbes.com/sites/cognitiveworld/2018/12/12/dr-yelena-yesha-meet-the-tenacious-pioneer-pushing-innovation-to-address-real-world-problems/
Part II: Dr. Yelena Yesha: Pushing Technology Boundaries To Solve The World's Biggest Problems
https://www.forbes.com/sites/cognitiveworld/2019/02/20/dr-yelena-yesha-pushing-technology-boundaries-to-solve-the-worlds-biggest-problems-part-ii/
Since you are looking our for Women in Tech, I thought I would try submitting her information to you. I tried to add it myself (twice) but the article had 2 issues: 1) It was flagged for "copyright" even though the text was our own. And 2) it was flagged for "conflict of interest" for the fact that Dr. Yesha and I work at the same place. If I don't work on this though, I don't know who will. We are not profiting in any way from a listing for her. It's just something she asked for my help with. I am not being paid. I did most of it from home, not during work hours in any case. _______
HERE IS THE TEXT. The sites are not here but I could provide them (I think I saved them . . .). What do you think?
Dr. Yelena Yesha (born July 27, 1962), a pioneer for women in technology[1], is currently the Knight Foundation Endowed Chair of Data Science and AI[2] at the University of Miami Institute for Data Science and Computing ("IDSC"). Internet Archive Scholar vs. JSTOR
Hello, I see on your user page that you use JSTOR and I'd like to know more about your experience. By my calculations, a good 70 % of the main JSTOR content is now available for everyone at Internet Archive Scholar, with full text search provided e.g. at https://scholar.archive.org/ . The service is still in beta, but I've used it for some source-finding and it seems quite usable to me; I wonder whether that's just my experience. If you have a chance, the next time you'd be looking for a source on Google Scholar or JSTOR or similar, to perform the same search on IA scholar instead, I'd be curious to hear how it ends up. April songs |
Ukraine day today: Maks Levin DYK, expanding Kyiv Symphony Orchestra (have tickets), and creating Anthony Robin Schneider, the bass who could be heard opening the singing in Beethoven's Ninth twice on 10 March 2022, live in Frankfurt, Germany, and recorded in Auckland, New Zealand, singing "Freiheit!" - Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello TJMSmith,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 808 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 845 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
