User talk:Matthewedwards/Archives/2011/01
Hello, happy new year and welcome to the 2011 WikiCup! Your submissions' page can be found here and instructions of how to update the page can be found here and on the submissions' page itself. From the submissions' page, a bot will update the main scoresheet. Our rules have been very slightly updated from last year; the full rules can be found here. Please remember that you can only receive points for content on which you have done significant work in 2011; nominations of work from last year and "drive-by" nominations will not be awarded points. Signups are going to remain open through January, so if you know of anyone who would like to take part, please direct them to Wikipedia:WikiCup/2011 signups. The judges can be contacted on the WikiCup talk page, on their respective talk pages, or by email. Other than that, we will be in contact at the end of every month with the newsletter. If you want to stop or start receiving newsletters, please remove your name from or add your name to this list. Good luck! J Milburn and The ed17 12:58, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
GFDL 1.2 license
[edit]Hi, Matt - I was wondering if you'd consider changing the license on File:Matthewedwards.png and File:Matthewedwards.svg (and future derivative works you make from them) to something else, like {{GFDL}} or {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}. The current license, {{GFDL-1.2}}, is deprecated and not meant to be used on any new works. Thanks! Kelly hi! 01:27, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

Project
[edit]Why did you delete the Selena project if you are the only person who rejected it? AJona1992 (talk) 02:55, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- I believe you are mistaken. I have not deleted a WikiProject. Matthewedwards : Chat 03:06, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Same difference, you closed the project just because one person (you) oppose to it AJona1992 (talk) 03:14, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- No, deleting an entire WikiProject, and archiving a proposal after an allotted amount of time is not the "same difference". Each proposal stays open for three months. My objection wasn't the reason it was archived. It was archived because four months had passed and the project hadn't (and still hasn't) been created. Take a look through the archives. There are other proposals with the required 5 supports and 0 opposes and they were archived too when the WikiProject was not forthcoming. Matthewedwards : Chat 03:20, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Ashlee Simpson discography
[edit]Hi! The Canadian certifications are available. For Autobiography, it is this and I Am Me this. I don't want to ruin your sandbox, so if you feel these can be use, please add to the certifications. And maybe this for the Music video Undiscovered. Thank you. Novice7 | Talk 06:38, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks, I've added those in and left a note at the FLRC for another admin to merge the pages and histories. Whenever I do it I always end up deleting histories somewhere and the info all jumbled up! Matthewedwards : Chat 18:14, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Talkback
[edit]Message added 11:51, 7 January 2011 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Hi Matt, how's it going? The above FLRC has stagnated, I'm afraid, as very little has been done to address the listed concerns. Do you think you can revisit the review and update your stance if necessary? Thanks, Dabomb87 (talk) 00:32, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
- Not bad, thanks. I'm having a bit of a slump in writing, which sucks cause I'm in the Cup! I will try to get to it in the next couple of days. :) Matthewedwards : Chat 00:41, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Re: Homicide articles
[edit]Hey Matthew. Going well; the manuscript is turned in so it's all in the publishers' hands now! :) As for the off-line sources, I used to get them mainly through the news archives in Lexis Nexis, which I had limited access to at work. But now I get them mainly through another similar news archives database called NewsBank, which I discovered recently I had access to through my local library. You should check to see if you do to. I didn't realize it, but my library website had a list of databases that I could use, including one that let me search for old news and magazine articles. I could access it from home with my library card number. I was a member for years before I realized this! lol. You should call your library and see if they have something similar. If not, I can probably help you find sources from time to time. Hope this helps! — Hunter Kahn 14:50, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
When Love Takes Over
[edit]Hi Matthew, First of all, thank you very much for all the comments and encouragement you gave on the review page. I believe I have now fully resolved your comments, though there were one or two things I did not do or did slightly different per your comments. Please take another look when you get chance and if there are any other improvements leave another note on the review page and it'll get seen to. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 02:38, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll return in a few days after it's received a few more reviews. :) Matthewedwards : Chat 03:49, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

WikiCup 2011 January newsletter
[edit]We are half way through round one of the WikiCup. Signups are now closed, and we have 129 listed competitors, 64 of whom will make it to round two. Congratulations to The Bushranger (submissions), who, at the time of writing, has a comfortable lead with 228 points, followed by Hurricanehink (submissions), with 144 points. Four others have over 100 points. Congratulations also go to Yellow Evan (submissions), who scored the first points in the competition, claiming for Talk:Hurricane King/GA1, Miyagawa (submissions), who scored the first non-review points in the competition, claiming for Dognapping, and Jarry1250 (submissions) who was the first in the competition to use our new "multiplier" mechanic (explanation), claiming for Grigory Potemkin, a subject covered on numerous Wikipedias. Thanks must also go to Jarry1250 for dealing with all bot work- without you, the competition wouldn't be happening!
A running total of claims can be seen here. However, numerous competitors are yet to score at all- please remember to submit content soon after it is promoted, so that the judges are able to review entries. The number of points that will be needed to reach round two is not clear- everyone needs to get their entries in now to guarantee their places! If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Added template for SuggestBot
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.
We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.
We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.
If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 23:36, 31 January 2011 (UTC)
