Education Program Incorporation
Hey! I know you're out-of-contact, and I hope you're having a good break. When you return, I'm wondering if you'd be interested in helping me to format/update my new adoption course or possibly becoming an instructor in it. I think IRC would be a good forum for this, or chat of some sort. --Jackson Peebles (talk) 00:01, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

Some stroopwafels for you!
guten Appetit ! Ghorpaapi (talk) 09:14, 9 July 2013 (UTC) |
- Thanks, Ghorpaapi! You have inspired me to go make some Eggo Waffles (but yours look much better ). Go Phightins! 11:55, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
Are you adopted?
I see (User talk:Worm That Turned/Adopt) that you asked last year. I'm curious how it went. ```Buster Seven Talk 13:19, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- I asked, he referred me to User:Ryan Vesey who was unavailable, so I was adopted by Rcsprinter123. It went pretty well. I now have my own adoption course that I use for relative newbies, primarily. Mixed results; some grasp and run, others, not so much. Go Phightins! 13:26, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- Interesting. I'm really concerned that I have basic inadequacies and I need to work on them before I can seriously consider any RfA. Maybe I could take a seat in the back of one of your classes. I promise to stay awake. ```Buster Seven Talk 13:31, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- What inadequacies cause you concern? Go Phightins! 13:40, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- Well, when you ask that way, my basic concern is my memory...being able to remember where I read something. Ive worked on all the aspects of EotW for 1/2 a year and yet I still have to THINK about doing the simplest of actions. My concern is knowing where stuff is so I can give good advice and be a good diplomat. That's my concern...getting past the test (RfA) so I can bring whatever Diplomacy I have to the stage. Probably just Final Exam jitters. ```Buster Seven Talk 13:58, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
- Same here on EotW :-) ... it is not a particularly user-friendly system. Anyway, remember that RfA (and everything on WP) is an "open-book" exam, and you can search using the search tool by namespace, which might be helpful if you can't find something. I think your diplomatic skills have manifested themselves through the disputes we've had in EotW. I wouldn't worry about it. Go Phightins! 14:06, 9 July 2013 (UTC)

IRC office hours for wiki-mentors and Snuggle users
Hi. We're organizing an office hours session with the Teahouse to bring in mentors from across the wiki to try out Snuggle and discuss it's potential to support mentorship broadly. The Snuggle team would appreciate it if you would come and participate in the discussion. We'll be having it in #wikimedia-office connect on Wed. July 17th @ 1600 UTC. See the agenda for more info. --EpochFail(talk • work), Technical 13 (talk), TheOriginalSoni (talk) 17:32, 12 July 2013 (UTC)
Articles you might like to edit, from SuggestBot
We are currently running a study on the effects of adding additional information to SuggestBot's suggestions. Participation in the study is voluntary. Should you wish to not participate in the study, or have questions or concerns, you can find contact information on the SuggestBot study page.
IMPORTANT CHANGES: We have modified the selection of articles SuggestBot suggests and altered the design to incorporate more information about the articles, as described in this explanation.
Note: All columns in this table are sortable, allowing you to rearrange the table so the articles most interesting to you are shown at the top. All images have mouse-over popups with more information.
Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions
We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:
- Views/Day
- Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
- Quality
- Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.
The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:
- Content
- Is more content needed?
- Headings
- Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
- Images
- Is the number of illustrative images about right?
- Links
- Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
- Sources
- For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?
SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. We appreciate that you have signed up to receive suggestions regularly, your contributions make Wikipedia better — thanks for helping!
If you have feedback on how to make SuggestBot better, please let us know on SuggestBot's talk page. Regards from Nettrom (talk), SuggestBot's caretaker. -- SuggestBot (talk) 23:53, 13 July 2013 (UTC)
Help writing an article
Hey Go Phightins!, I realize that you're busy at the moment, but I'm in no hurry since I'm rarely on. I'm hoping to write an article on the "controversial" cheerios ad that has everybody with their knickers in a knot. Would you be interested in helping out? Ryan Vesey 20:45, 14 July 2013 ()
- Are there any other similar articles? How does this one meet the notability requirements? And how are you going to write in a neutral way? I'm not a fan of this article, but give it a shot. Wikipedia has articles on just about everything. ~~JHUbal27 23:38, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
- This easily meets the notability requirements with all of the coverage I've gotten. I've got no doubt that I can write it in a neutral way. I wrote "So God Made a Farmer" so this will be somewhat similar. Ryan Vesey 00:02, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'm going to work on this a little in my sandbox. Tazerdadog (talk) 04:31, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- I'd prefer if you worked in the userspace draft I created for it, otherwise we need to deal with history merges and the like. Ryan Vesey 05:05, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, I'll stick what I have over there. Tazerdadog (talk) 05:28, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- Done, It should be ready for mainspace as a stub once the other URL's are removed. I didn't try to go beyond a stub, however, as there just asn't enough info. Tazerdadog (talk) 05:32, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- I went ahead and moved it to mainspace; it was ready as a stub, and can be expanded there. Tazerdadog (talk) 14:35, 23 July 2013 (UTC)

DRN needs your help!
Hi there. I've noticed it's been a while since you've been active at DRN, and we could really use your help! DRN is going to undergo some changes soon, so it'd really be great if our backlog is cleared before the start of August and we have as many people on board to help with the changes (they include a move to subpages and the creation of a rotating "co-ordinator" role to help manage things day-to-day. Hope to see you soon! Steven Zhang Help resolve disputes! 11:32, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

I've added an opt-in section for those interested in receiving TAFI notifications on the project's main page, located here. Those that don't opt-in won't receive this message again. Also, a revised notification template has been created, located at Template:TAFI weekly selections notice. Northamerica1000(talk) 05:14, 24 July 2013 (UTC)
