Ahoy there

Ahoy, Captain Eek!! Coming alongside. request permission to come board, Captain!! If ye be willing, perhaps we might repair aft, for a wee bit of grog?

I have a few items that I have been working on. I have been trying to get some basic feedback on them, but so far I haven't been able to get much reply. I was wondering if you might be inclined to give me some feedback, if I post the items here? I just wanted to ask in advance, as I have asked for this from some others, and not gotten much reply. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts that you may have. Please feel free to let me know. thanks! ---Sm8900 (talk) 🌍 18:11, 31 January 2022 (UTC)

Question from Yahoot7 (15:37, 4 February 2022)

hello what happend to User:Ruskii do you have any idea ----Yahoot7 --Yahoot7 (talk) 15:37, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

If you refer to User:Ruskii, I don't know. They only made three edits back in 2008, so I assume they just never edited again. A lot of folks make a few edits and then don't return, for any number of reasons. Any particular reason for asking? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:19, 4 February 2022 (UTC)

this is because i think there is another user named "ruskii" so i asked you have you had any idea? ---- yahoot7

On valuable contributors

It also keeps him as a valuable contributor. Really? Valuable in what way? The silk glove treatment of the Timwi case is an odd contrast to the previous ArbCom's lack of interest in keeping RexxS, an actually extremely valuable and dedicated contributor. You were a member of that ArbCom as well — indeed you were one of the drafting arbs for the RexxS case — and I remember for example your egregious assumption of bad faith here. "They were there more for the power than our mission, among other failings". Yes, I know you struck that (good) while pretending it had never been about RexxS at all (ridiculous, you only have to read it). This user still misses RexxS. Do you have any regrets? Bishonen | tålk 09:18, 8 February 2022 (UTC).

Bishonen's comment prompts a number of thoughts. Here are a few remarks about a one of them.
 • On the one hand we have someone who has been making thousands of constructive edits per year, and who has also been a very active contributor in other ways, including being an event coordinator, a Lead Trainer for WMUK, serving on the board Wikimedia UK, acting as chair of "Wikimedia Medicine", and contributing also on the technical side.
 • On the other hand we have someone who for many years has been making edits at the rate of tens per year, most of them very minor edits, and who has not contributed significantly in other ways.
So one of those two is such a "valuable contributor" that we should not consider desysopping for fear of losing that "valuable contributor", whereas for the other one "If they wish to leave [as a result of desysopping] that is their business". I would not myself have said the same, but it's a tenable point of view. Errm, except for one slight thing... which is the "valuable contributor" that we should not wish to lose, and which the one we don't need to bother about? ...
Bishonen asks if you have "any regrets". If you do, then that would make sense of your comments: you have now decided that you were wrong in what you said in the RexxS case, and now take a different line. Otherwise, try as I may, I can't make sense of what you say, so I will be very interested to read your reply to Bishonen, if you choose to give her one. JBW (talk) 14:36, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
@Bishonen@JBW My ill-advised statement in the Rexx case has been the cause of considerable personal reflection. I was definitely too quick to dismiss the very human dimensions of being an editor on Wikipedia. I voted to warn or restrict RexxS, not desysop. I noted that we should be more open to passing restrictions than just desysopping. When a lesser sanction would work, we should take it. Desysopping should be the last resort, and I just don't think we're there with the Timwi case. Nor did I think we were there with the Rexx case. I was quite supportive of providing an alternative path to Rexx, as I am with Timwi, and as I will with other admins who come before us.
The disappearance of Rexx has also reinforced my notion that sanctions are not to be applied lightly. I wish that I had thought of the Timwi motion back when I was a drafter on Rexx. A year of experience has been valuable. But despite my efforts at compromise motions on that case, the simple truth was that the majority of the committee wanted a desysopping. My callous statement regarding Rexx is exactly why I am extending empathy to Timwi and will continue to do so to those who come before us. I can't change the past, but I can change the future. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 22:04, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you for those comments, which do make your actions much more comprehensible. I don't fully agree with you on either of those two cases, but we don't necessarily have to agree with one another's opinions in order to respect them, and an ability to reconsider one's position and accept that one may have made mistakes is worth a lot. JBW (talk) 23:50, 8 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Captain Eek. I'm glad to know this. And thank you, JBW, especially for your list of all the ways RexxS showed his dedication to Wikipedia. One might also add his consistent and impassioned efforts to ensure accessibility for visually impaired users and readers. See these pages which he wrote: Wikipedia:Colons and asterisks, User:RexxS/Accessibility, User:RexxS/Accessibility review. Bishonen | tålk 05:10, 9 February 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Bish, also for the pointer here. I'd add User:RexxS/Infobox factors to the essays about accessibility. I miss him, see my talk, with two pictures of him, - thanks for one, Bish, Ritchie333 sent the other. We have a RfC for Peter Sellers, and a reverted infobox (not a good one I admit, but a good one was suggested in 2012) for Cosima Wagner, and in both cases users could just have looked up his essay, instead of saying that once upon a time some "principal authors" said that an accessibility feature was not wanted for "their" FA. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:41, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

request; need some help

Hi. I need your help with some items. could you please reply, and let me know once you have gotten this message? thanks! --Sm8900 (talk) 10:48, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

@Sm8900 What can I assist with? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 20:35, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
thanks so much. can you please, please, give me some feedback on the template below? I created this myself, and posted in several prominent pages on Wikipedia. I posted this at the Idea Lab page at WP:Village Pump before I did so. I did not receive any feedback there. now the template is being proposed for deletion.
I truly don't object to whatever the communtiy consensus may turn out to be on this; however, from the start of this process, I have been actively seeking feedback, prior to publicly posting this on active pages. and please note, that on the majority of pages where I posted this, many editors saw this item, but did not delete it. obviously, the current deletion process speaks for itself, however I would be very appreciaive to get any constructive and objective feedback on this that you might wish to provide. thanks!! --Sm8900 (talk) 21:09, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
If you don't wish to provide feedback, that is totally fine; however, I simply need some simple clarification, one way or the other. I appreciate your help. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 20:57, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
@Sm8900 Well on first glance I thought "this seems useful". But then I realized you've just duplicated an already existing template. The existing template also seems to be better formatted, and is already in general use. So, I'm not sure what your template achieves that the current one does not? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 21:00, 13 February 2022 (UTC)
well, I think that my own template above has numerous items and links that the other one doesn't. and additionally, the links to individual chapters, within broader works such as The Missing Manual, are obviously formatted differently. I would reply simply, that unless you feel that the items , sequence, format, and content, are all literally identical to the other template, then I would suggest that it is easy to determine what I feel my navbox offers that the other one doesn't. a simple visual review of firstly that navbox, and then secondly my own, might help to clarify that. . with that said, if that is your reply, then I am glad to have your feedback. thanks. --Sm8900 (talk) 00:48, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

 • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
 • The template db-afc-move has been created - this template is similar to db-move when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Removing tags on Orania, Northern Cape

Hello CaptainEek, I do not understand why you removed the tags for the article. The article still seems to be written like an advertisement and actively downplays the fact that it is a white nationalist settlement. Editors also refused to get consensus for controversial edits. There was hardly a "compromise" it was one sentence and everything else was reverted without discussion or consensus. I do feel those tags are still warranted. Desertambition (talk) 01:27, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@Desertambition Fair, I have re-added a tag, this time a POV tag. Whoever added the tags last time didn't provide a reasoning for them on the talk page so I assumed that the discussion in question was the only reason for the tags. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:47, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
If you have more issues, you should probably list them in a separate section on the talk page for discussion :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 01:48, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
@User:CaptainEek Thank you for doing that. I can see how my explanation of the tags got lost in the weeds. I explained my reasoning at the top of the discussion here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Orania,_Northern_Cape#Article_Presents_Fringe_Theories_as_Mainstream
I'll make sure to add more detail on the talk page about issues with this article as well. I welcome your critique and input, hope it didn't feel like I was trying to shut you down. Desertambition (talk) 02:26, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@User:CaptainEek On another note, am I linking users wrong by putting "bracketbracket" CaptainEek "bracketbracket" instead of "bracketbracket" CaptainEek|CaptainEek "bracketbracket"? I don't understand the difference. Desertambition (talk) 02:28, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

@Desertambition Actually, you need to use User:CaptainEek not just CaptainEek. But otherwise, having the pipe (|) just allows you to give the link a different appearance. So I could make This is not a rickroll and it would send you to the Rickroll page, but would display "This is not a rickroll". CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:58, 22 February 2022 (UTC)

Question from SimaDC2022 (23:53, 26 February 2022)

Hi there Captain, thanks for being open to mentoring! I'm just getting started with edits, any suggestions for good tasks to become familiar with Wikipedia's standards/process? --SimaDC2022 (talk) 23:53, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

Howdy hello! One of my general suggestions is to find a topic you enjoy, that has a page that is perhaps a bit lacking, and find even just one reliable source for it. Then write one sentence based on the source, and insert it into the page. So what sort of topics are you interested in? For example, I write extensively about birds and history. Reassessment

Hello CaptainEek I hope you're doing well. Could you please do an reassessment of my articles.

Thanks for your consideration C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 05:56, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

@C1K98V the ratings didn't really change. You know, you can rate your own articles if you're confident in how the rating system works. I use something called WP:RATER. It also helps with assigning articles to WikiProjects, which can be done even if you don't know what rating to give it. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:05, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
But the creator should not rate his/her articles right if I'm not wrong. C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 06:07, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
@C1K98V If there is such a prohibition, I'll admit I've not heard of it and don't follow it. But I also think I have a very solid grasp of the rating system. Self-rating requires a bit of discipline. At the end of the day, unless its a GA or FA (which are only assignable after formal review), ratings are simply guidance that give information at a glance but don't have to be 100% accurate. WikiCup 2022 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the WikiCup. Last year anyone who scored more than zero points moved on to Round 2, but this was not the case this year, and a score of 13 or more was required to proceed. The top scorers in Round 1 were:

 • New York (state) Epicgenius, a finalist last year, who led the field with 1906 points, gained from 32 GAs and 19 DYKs, all on the topic of New York buildings.
 • Christmas Island AryKun, new to the contest, was second with 1588 points, having achieved 2 FAs, 11 GAs and various other submissions, mostly on the subject of birds.
 • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, a WikiCup veteran, was in third place with 682 points, garnered from 51 In the news items and several DYKs.
 • Philadelphia GhostRiver was close behind with 679 points, gained from achieving 12 GAs, mostly on ice hockey players, and 35 GARs.
 • United Nations Kavyansh.Singh was in fifth place with 551 points, with an FA, a FL, and many reviews.
 • SounderBruce was next with 454 points, gained from an FA and various other submissions, mostly on United States highways.
 • United Nations Ktin, another WikiCup veteran, was in seventh place with 412 points, mostly gained from In the news items.

These contestants, like all the others who qualified for Round 2, now have to start scoring points again from scratch. Between them, contestants completed reviews of a large number of good articles as the contest ran concurrently with a GAN backlog drive. Well done all! To qualify for Round 3, contestants will need to finish Round 2 among the top thirty-two participants.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of Round 1 but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Anything that should have been claimed for in Round 1 is no longer eligible for points. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.

Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Help with Article Neutrality (talk) 20:53, 3 March 2022 (UTC)

Hi, Captain Eek! First, two confessions: (1) I'm more of a beginner on Wikipedia, so please forgive any misstep in this process; (2) I know Aaron Rasmussen, co-founder of Masterclass, so I've had an interest in tracking that page. I have a serious concern about the MasterClass history section. I saw that you were the most recent editor on that topic/section. I'm honestly unsure about where else to flag this problem, so I thought the editor(?). Please let me know where I can flag a serious concern I have with the neutrality of that section. For reference, this article presents a very different history: https://www.inc.com/aaron-rasmussen/why-wasting-time-is-good-for-design.html -- Jonathan van Belle

Jonathan van Belle First, please sign your posts at the end, not in the header. Second, I'm not sure I see the neutrality issue? I would say the current section is strictly factual, and quite disinterested in tone. Can you clarify? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 05:25, 7 March 2022 (UTC)
CaptainEek Sorry about that name misplacement! I agree that the tone is disinterested, but the current section is not factual. Let me start by just pointing out that User:MC Alyssa, who works for MasterClass, has added much of this content, and when you review user's history in the Talk page for MasterClass, user's requests read as native advertising or otherwise promotional language (editors have pointed this out and made appropriate edits). So, already, the factuality of that user's claims should be suspect, not only the tone. But to the point, the current section reads: "MasterClass was founded by David Rogier while a student at Stanford University, originally under the name "Yanka Industries". Rogier, who continues to serve as chief executive officer (CEO),[7] asked Aaron Rasmussen to join the company as a co-founder and chief technology officer." This origin story is flatly contradicted by Aaron Rasmussen's claim in the Inc. article he wrote (article linked above in previous comment): "In 2010, I sketched out a documentary series that was ultimately my inspiration for MasterClass. I wrote a list of possible instructors, and in looking back on that list, I see Annie Leibovitz, Hans Zimmer, and James Cameron, all instructors who now have their own MasterClass." In brief, the origin of MasterClass is contested. In the Inc. article, written by Rasmussen, Aaron claims that the first seeds of MasterClass began with him in 2010, not with Rogier at Stanford. The History Section of MasterClass should, at least, reflect this, otherwise that section would not be neutral between the cofounders. To add to that, the three cited articles that support the current version are all articles written by third parties, whereas the claim about the origin that I cite is in an article written by one of the cofounders themselves. More direct source, I'd say. I hope this has clarified the problem. If not, please let me know. Jonathan van Belle

Hi, although I know you can't speak for the Committee, I thought you nonetheless might be able to help. This started because I noticed this thread at ANI. I went to the Talk page and saw that Doug Weller had recently posted a DS notice on the Talk page. According to the case, "Standard discretionary sanctions are authorized for all pages related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, broadly construed." As I interpret that statement, that would indeed cover all articles, including ones about movies, actors, songs, and so on. Yet, I thought that DS in these areas, just like in the Israeli-Palistianian case, applies only to articles about conflicts. Am I missing something? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:00, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

@Bbb23: see www.opindia.com/2022/03/wikipedia-page-of-the-kashmir-files-vandalised-all-you-need-to-know/ and Talk:The Kashmir Files. It's about the conflict. Doug Weller talk 14:19, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, Doug. That still leaves the problem with the statement by the Committee, but given that I avoid DS like the plague, I'm not going to pursue it.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:55, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
A narrowing of the IPA regime was recently discussed at WP:A/R/M, but no, ArbCom has not narrowed it from "all topics" since institution a decade ago. Izno (talk) 17:37, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Whoa, that's quite a discussion. Exhausting to read even a little of it. Because of some stray comments, though, it looked like the current wording might not mean what it says. To put it concretely, Izno, would a run-of-the-mill Indian comedy film be covered by the sanctions?--Bbb23 (talk) 20:06, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
Yes. The discussion was mostly about whether it should be, and if it shouldn't be, how we can narrow it so that arbitrary problems in the area rooted in the inter-group conflicts in the area can still have DS available. We didn't get to a conclusion in that discussion given that we were more interested in taking the unused ones off the list, but I would say we're still looking at the problem. Izno (talk) 21:53, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) The discussion was also about removing Afghanistan from the sanctions, and I frankly don't understand why that didn't happen. Bishonen | tålk 22:25, 16 March 2022 (UTC).
I always appreciate when talk page stalkers can make short work of a question :) But yes, at the moment the IPA sanctions are on everything. Even if it were just limited to politics, I think The Kashmir files would fit the bill. It looks like state-endorsed propaganda, the very sort of controversial item that DS is designed for. Bish has a good point, which is that Afghanistan is no longer such a hot button item. I think a well focused ARCA requesting removal of Afghanistan from the IPA DS could work, pointing to the comments of the latest discussion. Why it didn't happen in the last discussion? I think we got a bit tunnel visioned on the particular wording and issue, and just forgot to follow up. There's a lot happening in the world right now, I admit to being a bit distracted myself... Donald on Lincoln

I checked a few Donald footnotes at random, and, as I expected, they're the same in the hardback edition (although all the information in the sentence accompanying fn2 is on p. 22). Even if the pages didn't line up, it's not important enough to have two versions in all the footnotes. At most, we could put "(1996) [1995]," in the bibliography, but I wouldn't bother even with that; I'll leave it to you.Maurice Magnus (talk) 23:47, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

WikiCup 2022 May newsletter

The second round of the 2022 WikiCup has now finished. It was a high-scoring round and contestants needed 115 points to advance to round 3. There were some very impressive efforts in round 2, with the top seven contestants all scoring more than 500 points. A large number of the points came from the 11 featured articles and the 79 good articles achieved in total by contestants.

Our top scorers in round 2 were:

 1. New York (state) Epicgenius, with 1264 points from 2 featured article, 4 good articles and 18 DYKs. Epicgenius was a finalist last year but has now withdrawn from the contest as he pursues a new career path.
 2. Christmas Island AryKun, with 1172 points from two featured articles, one good article and a substantial number of featured article and good article reviews.
 3. Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, with 605 points from 44 in the news items and 4 DYKs.
 4. Sammi Brie, with 573 points from 8 GAs and 21 DYKs.
 5. Ealdgyth, with 567 points from 11 GAs and 34 good and featured article reviews.
 6. United States Panini!, with 549 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and several other sources.
 7. England Lee Vilenski, with 545 points from 1 FA, 4 GAs and a number of reviews.

The rules for featured and good article reviews require the review to be of sufficient length; brief quick fails and very short reviews will generally not be awarded points. Remember also that DYKs cannot be claimed until they have appeared on the main page. As we enter the third round, any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed now, and anything you forgot to claim in round 2 cannot! Remember too, that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Question from Katiejill127 (23:05, 5 April 2022)

Hello! I need help. I've spent about an hour trying to figure out how to get a duplicate image deleted. I drew an image and uploaded it, but the first version had a black line so I had to crop that out. It's not user friendly to figure out how to delete my own image from Wikipedia?

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Kgladstein_-_open_channel_uniform_flow_FBD.jpg

here is the image I want to delete. Please advise! --Katiejill127 (talk) 23:05, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

 1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
 2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Question from Pencipta sub team (03:31, 17 April 2022)

Hello --Pencipta sub team (talk) 03:31, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

@Pencipta sub team Howdy. Anything I can help with? What is your goal in joining Wikipedia? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:49, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

I was going through the archives a little while ago and noticed a remark of yours that Planck units might be brought to GA one day. What do you think of it now? I've been trying to brush the cobwebs out (this website was actually a book chapter, that citation was to a TV documentary for some reason I can't fathom...). I doubt I'll have the time to shepherd it through any formal stamp-of-approval process, but I probably have it in me to make the odd fix here or there. XOR'easter (talk) 01:24, 16 April 2022 (UTC)

@XOR'easter I'm probably not the best person to ask. I find physics fascinating, and am pretty good at the theoretical stuff, but man am I bad at the math. I got all the way through Vector Calc in college and decided "nah I won't do this any more". Those upper level physics concepts tend to be very heavy on the advanced mathematics, which limits my overall usefulness in physics articles. A bit ironic considering I was a math teacher...
My thoughts about the GA was that I felt Planck length was itself not a good candidate for being taken to GA, and thus energy should be focused on Planck unit. I have a theory that I've yet to fully put in words, but is along the lines of: "Not all articles can reach GA, which is a function of the number and quality of RS that exist about the topic." That is usually a sign that a merge or deletion is in order. A problem I came across with Planck length is that...nobody seems to know, agree, or understand what it really means. There is a lot of misinformation out there too, along the lines that it is the shortest possible distance. I am glad to see that it got merged, since that makes the most sense to me. Though I do think some more time needs to be expensed to make the topic accessible. I'll leave my thoughts on the talk page of the article. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:25, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
The perspective of someone who got through the end of vector calculus is definitely a valuable perspective to have on articles that are read by undergraduates, or even more widely than that. My own impression over the years has been that a lot of our physics and mathematics articles were built up from the disorganized accretion of small pieces, generally without an overall plan or an understanding of how difficult it is to explain these things to people who don't already know them. The challenge is compounded by the difficulty of writing articles that have to serve multiple audiences at once.
For matters Planckian, Anthony Zee's Fly by Night Physics (Princeton University Press, 2020) has a pretty good introduction, aimed at students who've had a couple years of college physics. I may try to incorporate some of that approach in revising the first couple sections. XOR'easter (talk) 20:29, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

I aspire to join the crew

I just turned 18 and I am going to university in about half a year, probably to study Biology. I am very interested in learning more about the inner workings of Wikipedia, becoming able to make this awesome place even better. It would be an honour to be adopted by a great Capitan such as you. If you can't accept now recruits rn, that's ok, I can wait. Just call me out when you can.

If you think that my name is a little funny, that's because I'm Brazilian. Eduardo Carls (talk) 02:53, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

@Eduardo Carls Well howdy hello! I would be more than happy to add you to my crew, though I'll be honest: I don't have much time to spend these days. At most I can probably answer some questions and maybe provide review of an article that you work on. But you seem very interested and I'd like to see you stick around as a contributor! I'm a big fan of biology, and am particularly adept at helping folks edit in that area (though I have other specialities too). What are you interested in writing about?
As a side note, be careful about disclosing personal information on-Wiki, since it is accessible to the public. I've removed one particular bit that I would advise you don't share again, at least not in public :) CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 03:36, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from SaraDPH (14:43, 20 April 2022)

Hi! I added a line to IaC, but it was removed because there wasn't an article about the software. Is that a requirement? The software page is first then mentioned in other places if pertinent? --SaraDPH (talk) 14:43, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

SaraDPH That's because the entry you added did not a Wikipedia page. We try to only add NOTABLE entries, and a notable entry is one which has enough coverage in reliable sources, and this qualifies bfor page. Let me know if you have other questions/clarifications. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 17:35, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Katiejill127 (05:35, 25 April 2022)

Hello again! Thanks again for helping with my image issue. I'm sorry to bother you but I have another: I worked hard to improve the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chézy_formula page. This article is flagged as "needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed".

I've finished improving this article, I read the link about "how and when to remove the template message", but I'm still not sure if it's appropriate to remove this flag? I think the article is now full of good content and well-supported by sources, but I'm so new to writing on Wikipedia! Thanks so much for your thoughts and guidance about how to proceed. Katiejill127 (talk) 05:35, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

@Katiejill127 The general requirement on Wikipedia is that every statement, except those that fall under WP:BLUESKY, need citation. Leads, being just summaries of the body, do not need citations. I would say you could remove the tag on that article since you've done a great job improving it. But if you wanted to say take it to WP:GA or WP:FA status, effectively every sentence would need to be cited. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:44, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
OK, thanks so much. I will go ahead and remove the tag (or at least try to!). I would love to cite each sentence and meet the GA and FA standard. 90% of the article I can easily do this. There is a section where I explore the formula components and try to explain the conservation of momentum and equilibrium of forces largely in my own words, because it can be hard to understand and I don't want the article to be prohibitively technical. I will take another look and see if I can cite these sentences in some way even though they came from my brain and notes, I can possibly cite a lecture from a graduate-level engineering course. I'll let you know if I successfully cite each sentence! Katiejill127 (talk) 22:47, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

Ahoy!

There's a bit of a problem unfolding at Template:Did you know nominations/Death to Arabs—seems like we're having trouble balancing hookiness and shock/non-neutrality. You're not really in DYK's orbit, so I thought you could provide a fresh voice. Many thanks in advance! :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (she/they) 08:41, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

ahoy there, matey!

Ahoy, Captain Eek! coming alongside. may I repair aft to your Stern Gallery? I have some items to discuss with ye, in yer Captain's Wardroom, if that be pleasin' to ye! Well I just wanted to let you know I may be able to use your input from time to time. for one thing, you seem to have lots of valuable roles and experience here at Wikipedia. for another, I like your use of the nautical anaology. as you can see, I'm an old sea dog meself! but in all seriousness, I also view wikipedia as an adventure of sorts. it is nice to see someone who adopts a literary metaphor to reflect that!

and lastly, in the end, I didn't really obtain another mentor for myself. So I think your input might be quite helpful from time to time. whether it be a gale on the horizon, or smooth sailing on the seven seas, it is always good to have a seasoned sailor to provide input on the best way to set course and to trim the sails!! so I hope that's ok. I truly appreciate and value all of your work and efforts, here at Wikipedia. thanks very much! and happy voyages to ye!! --Sm8900 (talk) 16:07, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

@Sm8900 I'm not so sure you really need a mentor. You have been on-Wiki almost twice as long as I have, and have 30,000 more edits than I do. I think the reason you've been in troubled waters before is that you focused too much on the "meta" or "back-end" of Wikipedia, and not enough on the front-end content. Changing or reforming Wikipedia takes a deft hand, and a firm understanding of Wiki-politics, something that even I have failed at before. But as long as you're focusing on content, I don't think you'll run into any problems. If you have questions, you're welcome to ask for advice, but I am exceptionally busy these days so can only offer an occasional answer :) Smooth sailing, batten down the hatches, stow the cargo, etc., CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:39, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
ok, that sounds fair enough. yes, that is good advice; and yes, I'll be glad to try that (since I said I wanted your advice and sage counsel anyway); and yes, I may still occasionally drop by now and then to ask your advice sometimes, nonetheless. it's very good to hear from you, and to be able to chat now and then. Appreciate your reply, and your ideas. thanks! smooth sailing to ye!! --Sm8900 (talk) 16:49, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
By the way, as far my numerical amount of edits, versus your numerical amount of edits... sometimes, it is not the quantity that matters, but rather, the quality. lol! but I'm quite glad to hear your perspective on these things, in general. thanks !! --Sm8900 (talk) 16:53, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from AngeredTrash710 (00:31, 2 May 2022)

Hi, so I was wondering how do I have a page redirect a page because the Heron River goes to a small river in NZ and there is a much more notable one in Michigan so yea --AngeredTrash710 (talk) 00:31, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

@AngeredTrash710 Can you link to the page you want it redirected to? My thought is that the more likely solution is to add a disambiguation to the end of the title, so i.e. "Heron River (New Zealand)" and a separate article titled "Heron River (Michigan)". CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 02:37, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

The link is: Heron River (Michigan) AngeredTrash710 (talk) 12:06, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

@AngeredTrash710 Ah, well they wouldn't make good candidates for disambiguation because they're spelled differently. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:52, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

How do I add a picture to my page AngeredTrash710 (talk) 20:06, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

Uploading a picture is a somewhat complicated procedure. The general secret is: upload it to https://commons.wikimedia.org/ and then you can use it on Wiki. Any photo you upload must be your own! I.e., you took that photo with your own hands. Uploading other photos is a dreadfully complex morass of copyright troubles, so I would advise against that unless you really need to upload said photo and know what you're doing. New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello CaptainEek,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 803 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 851 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Question from Sylvesterjay

Hi Cap'n, need your help with some trolls. I am a board member of Atheist Alliance International (you can confirm this here), and a group of bad actors are trying to damage the organization reputation (John Hamill and his Free thought Prophet podcast) and continue to vandalize our page.
Yesterday I updated the Criticisms section, and one their little minions, Martin C Boers, undid all the changes. A check of Hamill's twitter profile will confirm Boers is one of his sycophants. May I please request this article be locked to prevent them from continuously tampering with it:
 https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Atheist_Alliance_International&action=history

Sylvesterjay (talk) 13:35, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

@Sylvesterjay: Well seeing as you have a conflict of interest, you shouldn't be directly editing it anyway. Frankly, both of your edits there aren't great. Citing to the AAI bylaws is not using reliable sources and is just trying to win a petty grudge. I won't lock the article, because you don't WP:OWN the article. I suggest talking it out with Boer. Then if that doesn't work you can ask me again. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 15:50, 31 May 2022 (UTC)

Question from Advaaait (19:33, 2 June 2022)

I want to make a wiki page for a museum in Goa - It is worlds first alcohol museum page --Advaaait (talk) 19:33, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Advaaait Well there are several problems. First, it was a copyright violation because you just copy and pasted the content in, which meant I had to delete it (copyright violations can get us sued!). Second, you had no references to reliable sources. Third, you didn't show that it was notable. Now, those problems might be fixable, but you'll need to start again after reading our policies. It does sound like an interesting place, what prompted you to write about it? CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 19:43, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from DINKIN (16:19, 6 June 2022)

How do I get access to the research library databases? --DINKIN (talk) 16:19, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

@DINKIN You are looking for the WP:LIBRARY. I believe it requires a minimum number of edits, as well as an application for some sources, but I'll be honest I'm not sure what the number of edits is. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 03:47, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Question from SeeShade (03:31, 9 June 2022)

So there’s some alternative album covers ive uploaded and added on some pages and they’re bigger than the original ones, is there a way I can fix this? --SeeShade (talk) 03:31, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

@SeeShade I've fixed a few, but you'll need to do the rest. The problem is that in the file name parameter, you had when you actually needed to remove the double brackets and jazz that make a piped link, to instead have just File:blahblah. New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello CaptainEek,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, NPP backlog, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13375 articles, as of 02:00, 24 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
 • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
 • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing on their talk page.
 • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
 • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
 1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
 2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

NPP & AfC

The main issues that need support at NPP are:

 • Getting the 90-Day NO INDEX changed to indefinite
 • Encouraging reviewers to be more bold over using Draftification, and not worry about any backlogs it creates at AfC.
 • Encouraging reviewers to use the tutorial instead of posting questions for help on every small detail of reviewing they can’t get their heads around. Most of it is stuff they should have been intelligent enough to learn before they applied for the right.
 • Encouraging admins at PERM to accord the NPP right on a probationary basis first for all applicants who qualify.
 • Getting inactive reviewers and hat-collectors removed so that we know exactly how many reviewers there are.
 • Watching why some features of the new pages feed and the curation toolbar are no longer working as they should. I co-developed these years ago with the WMF after a long struggle for them and lots of meetings with the Vice CEO and senior devs, and it saddens me to see them not being maintained. See this page which I created: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Page_Curation/Suggested_improvements

These are quite a few things that urgently need to be done, but as long as nobody from NPP is prepared to coordinate it, nothing much will happen. Nevertheless, IMO they are issues to decided locally by the NPP/AfC volunteers directly and not by Arbcom members and/or users who have no practical experience in those areas. A pragmatic approach is what is now needed and not some antiquated Wikipedia ideology or Arbcom power-thrusting. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:27, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

User:Kudpung I started typing a reply yesterday and got distracted. The short of it is, I quite agree that NPP and AfC need reform, and that ArbCom is not the one to do it. I've talked and worked with various folks on reform in the past and would like to take that on as a project at some point, though a lot of work has taken precedent in the meantime. WikiCup 2022 July newsletter

The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

 • Zulu (International Code of Signals) BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
 • Kingdom of Scotland Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
 • Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.

Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Democratic backsliding in Ethiopia

Hi, Why you changed to Democratic backsliding in Ethiopia when it talks about Abiy Ahmed. The Supermind (talk) 07:02, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

The Supermind Well for starters your title was ungrammatical. Second, this allows the article to cover backsliding should Ahmed leave power. Lastly, the previous title was not informative at a glance. Most people have no idea who Abiy Ahmed is, but everybody knows what Ethiopia is. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 07:30, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

So, should I absorb Abiy Ahmed in concised section and add topic about the previous government to fit with the title of "Democratic backsliding in Ethiopia"? The Supermind (talk) 07:34, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

@The Supermind Well you don't need to include that at all, unless the last government was backsliding too, in which case yes that'd be a good addition. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:24, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

Content Authenticity Inititaive

You tagged the Article as "Advert". I consider the tag as inappropriate and your tagging without explanation less then helpful. I am an independent German journalist and it took considerable efforts to write this article. The CAI is a non-commercial association creating an open standard. The topic is complex and not easy to explain. Two thirds of the article cover an explanation of the way the standard works. So: Where did you discover advertising content? Robertseetzen (talk) 10:44, 12 July 2022 (UTC)

@Robertseetzen Hi Robert. Thanks for working on this article. Don't let the tagging doesn't reflect on you, its hard to learn the ropes of Wikipedia, and you chose a bit of a tricky first topic. We're always suspicious of articles about organizations and want them written as neutrally as possible. To that end, I recommend a few fixes. First, don't use external links in the body. Its against our manual of style, and makes me think that the goal of the article is to drive web traffic to the site. Second, everything should be cited. If I see uncited content, it makes me think that its original research, which makes me wonder if the author is associated with the topic. Third, you have a lot of unsubstantiated essay-like claims. Such as Simply put, the CAI standard enables a person to make sound decisions about what content to trust. Without reliable, cryptographically secured statements about the origin of a file, such decisions are also possible and even commonplace, but they are then often made without a robust foundation. It looks like this sentence is trying to promote the CAI, instead of just explaining what it is in a neutral fashion. Wording like "Simply put", "sound decisions", "robust foundation", that's all ad-speak. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 18:23, 12 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi. I just removed some parts of the article you considered problematic. Having to ask you for your reasons to add that tag should not have been necessary in the first place. Adding that tag without an explanation can be seen as a display of disrespect for the work of others.
I have no idea how to continue work on the article. The topic is rather new. There is almost zero independent content available. One reason might be that the topic is complex. I understand Wikipedia as a place to offer support in understanding complicated topics. In addition, I understand Wikipedia as a platform to offer information on relevant topics. I believe that an association working on an open, freely available standard for tools helping against disinformation is relevant. Even more so if that association has the potential (due to its potent members) to implement or at least propagate that standard on a global level. As a person involved in Wikipedia administration and (as I believe) being confronted with disinformation on a daily basis, you might agree. In addition, you might understand that I'm not motivated to do further work on the article with that advert tag present or looming.
I understand the necessities of scientific working. But without many external sources available, the article can almost only refer to the standard documents and statements of the CAI and C2PA themselves. Which should be, at least regarding the standard docs, enough in itself. Because this is the most reliable information that will ever be available when the inner workings of the standard are discussed. I'd be happy to add references to any critical discussion of the standard and its potential impact. But, until now, even well-known sources with good reputation didn't do much more than rewrite press statements. So, if you would like to see this article evolve and an article I planned for the C2PA to happen in the first place, please offer you opinion on how this might work with that little sources available. ARCA

Regarding Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Clarification and Amendment/Archive 121#Amendment request: Motion: Crouch, Swale (January 2022) you stated that I should start a new RFC in a better location but Wikipedia talk:WikiProject England/Parishes RfC seems though not well participated to have reached a reasonable consensus namely:

 • There was a consensus against bot/insignificant content creation, that is to say the articles needed to be of good quality and contain significant content
 • There was a consensus that if the parish has the same name as a settlement the parish should be dealt with in the settlement article. This is standard for other 4th order units elsewhere in the world.
 • Several editors stated to have a moratorium on parish RFCs so I see little benefit in starting another one.

The requirement that I can only appeal the restrictions is far far far to infrequent, even if we were only allow 1 appeal every 6 months or year it would be far more appropriate if the number of articles (such as parishes only) could be reviewed more like ever 2 weeks or so (at least in the beginning) probably by an arbitrator or other admin. I we started at say 1 parish a week (in addition to my 1 article a month on anything) and gradually increase the number of parishes ever few weeks I could gradually get the remaining ones missing with little risk of problems.

You also opposed to going from 1 article a week through AFC to 1 article a month without AFC due to the new restriction allowing me to create less content, if you felt this why didn't you instead suggest a motion of allowing me to create 1 article a week without AFC? As Primefac said "While I think it would most definitely benefit Crouch, Swale when they make their inevitable appeal next year to have an actual, well-attended and clear RFC that states whether what they are doing is acceptable to the community or not, I cannot deny that they have held to their restriction and have been doing a good job of writing reasonable articles. I do not understand why they are looking for fewer articles written per year as their relaxation, but if that is what they want that is what they will apparently get.". Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:49, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

@Crouch, Swale My issue is that the frequency is somewhat arbitrary, when the real issue is there seems to be no consensus on the notability of parishes. Your stated goal is still to create an article for every parish, which is what got you in trouble in the first place. Until there is some discussion that determines that say a certain group of parishes is notable, I think it is best that your submissions be reviewed. Otherwise, I suggest you carefully re-read what I wrote at the ARCA. I have just re-read it, I stand by it, and could not have put it more eloquently. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 06:55, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Are you talking about the frequency of the reviewing or the frequency in the sense of the number of parishes I can create?
Regarding notability and previous problems there isn't such an issue with notability per WP:GEOLAND and the previous disagreements were over hamlets, suburbs and individual buildings, as far as I'm aware there wasn't any disagreements over parishes.
Would something like:
 • Crouch, Swale can create (to start with) 2 articles on current civil parishes a week, the articles must be in accordance with the previous consensus namely (1) the articles must contain a reasonable amount of content (such as at least 5 sentences), (2) must be on current civil parishes and (3) must follow the rule agreed that if a parish has the same name as a settlement it doesn't get a separate article unless all or almost all of the settlement is outside the parish.
 • The number of articles he can create a week is to be reviewed every 2 weeks (by an involved or uninvolved administrator) to see if it can be increased.
 • The number of articles he can create per week can be reduced anytime by any admin, involved or not.
 • If he creates unsuitable articles they can be moved to draftspace/his userspace (or another suitable location) an he is not permitted to move them back without permission from the mover or an admin or create a new article on that topic.
 • This restriction runs concurrently with his 1 article a month on any topic and he can appeal his overall restrictions as normal at ARCA.

Would this work? What is the likelihood of problems and wouldn't point 3 be enough to deal with that. Could you please consider this? If every 2 weeks is too frequent or not frequent enough it could be a different time, though reviewing would likely be nothing more than checking some or all of the articles for problems and checking my talk page. If there are any other things that you think would be helpful you can suggest them. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:24, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

@Crouch, Swale The more complicated a sanction becomes, the more onerous it is to enforce. Simpler is generally better. At least as far as I'm concerned, my preferred course of action is for you to prove that you understand what notability means, that you have had an RfC about the notability of parishes, and then simply ask for your restriction to be lifted altogether. I suggest you do not do this until you are truly ready. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:31, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
There is already a consensus on this at WP:GEOLAND and the 2020 RFC. Why do I need an express consensus to create the remaining ~3.6%? Almost everywhere else in the world as far as I can see has coverage on their lowest level units so why should that be any different for the ~3.6% of parishes in England? Parishes just like other administrative units are inherently notable so there is no need to start a RFC about if ~3.6% of parishes in England should be treated differently to most other places in the world. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:46, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
@Crouch, Swale As WTT pointed out: Handwaving towards WP:GEOLAND or WP:NPLACE don't solve this specific consensus that the articles shouldn't be mass created. But regardless, you might be talking to the wrong Arb. It seems the majority of arbs are favorable to changing your sanctions, but I am not. I am generally uninterested until you show that the underlying issue is fixed. CaptainEek Edits Ho Cap'n! 16:57, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
I agree there is a consensus today that articles shouldn't be mass created with little content but I gave examples like Greenstead Green and Halstead Rural and Shoreswood that do contain significant content. It would be reasonable for me to be able to still produce good articles if I was creating several a week or even several a day but not if it was like 100 a day. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:13, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
