Talk:Bus Driver (video game)
Bus Driver (video game) was nominated as a Video games good article, but it did not meet the good article criteria at the time (June 15, 2018). There are suggestions on the review page for improving the article. If you can improve it, please do; it may then be renominated. |
On 25 September 2024, it was proposed that this article be moved to Bus Driver. The result of the discussion was not moved. |
Notability
[edit]In regards to notability, I saw this game at the local mall at GameStop and EBGames, so it is at least being sold at mainstream retail outlets, if that matters.
Fair use rationale for Image:Bus Driver.jpg
[edit]Image:Bus Driver.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Unencyclopedic Information
[edit]Sorry, but this article is not really in an encyclopedic style. I added the Info box at the top. I quote:
Some people have said that would make the game better but the developers said this is because the game was designed for players to drive buses and not to be an exact simulator. Anyway, the realism of this game is very good.
This doesn't really constitute as a formal article. I have edited where I can, but it really needs looking at by someone with more knowledge of the game (for I have only used the demo). St91 (talk) 17:15, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Ok, i've had a go at the Realism area, but it really still needs work
St91 (talk) 17:15, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- I think i'm talking to myself here, but never the less, I have added the little info box at the top of Realism for an Essay-entry box. St91 (talk) 19:24, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Good Article Nominee
[edit]Hello Fellow Wikipedia users, I have nominated this article for the good article category. I play the game and I have immense knowledge of the game. So if you oppose to this decision of mine about the good article then message me on my talk page and I will tell the reviewer to fail it now. Map Collector (talk) 11:50, 12 June 2018 (UTC)
- Hi @Map Collector,
- Welcome to Wikipedia! Looking at your edits, I'm guessing you're fairly new to the grand adventure called Wikipedia. May I suggest you take a moment to look at WP:GA and what it means for an article to be nominated to become one? If you take a quick glance at the article, up top there's a template message requesting more references. In the gameplay section, there's a template message about original research. The reception section too is unsourced. If you're familiar with the game, be bold and improve it. There's WP:VG, a WikiProject dedicated to video games and related articles. WP:VG/RS is a resource to look up reliable sources. If you have any questions, feel free to drop by WT:VG, ask me on my talk page or you can notify me by writing {{ping|Soetermans}} (replace my username with another to notify them). Good luck, and happy editing! soetermans. ↑↑↓↓←→←→ B A TALK 12:53, 13 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Map Collector: This is nowhere near ready for GAN. Please remove the template. Aoba47 (talk) 14:01, 14 June 2018 (UTC)

Bus Driver (video game) → Bus Driver – Per WP:DIFFCAPS, as there is nothing competing for the capitalized version. Was reverted with the argument that it is "controversial" and that the game is "not notable" (which is not true, see here for the reviews). Needless to say I do not agree in the slightest. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 00:28, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Clear case of DIFFCAPS. Bus Driver now gets minimal use as a redirect, the occupation is not normally capitalized, and the video game gets significant views.[1] Hatnotes are in place. Station1 (talk) 07:11, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose. The occupation clearly can be capitalised and is very clearly the primary topic. We're supposed to help our users rather than resorting to smug in-house dogma. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:41, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Having an issue with the rule doesn't mean you can just vote against it any time it appears. That's simply tendentious editing. You have stated that it "can be capitalized", but have not posted clear evidence it is commonly capitalized. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:01, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- But wouldn't the rapper be a reasonable contendor for the title case version given the term would normally be written with 2 words many readers would probably search with 2 words so I'd suggest like Friendly Fire there is a primary topic for the lower case but no primary topic for the upper case. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:23, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Red Meat also has a primary topic for the lowercase but no primary topic for the upper case. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:40, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Same with Coral Island (disambig) and coral island (type of island). As someone who lives in the UK (and therefore has a decent bus network) I only see bus driver capitalised if used in headline titles, and not in normal text. Additionally, it should be clear from context where Bus Driver refers to a video game or the profession "I love playing Bus Driver so that I can prepare to be a bus driver when I'm old enough." JuniperChill (talk) 21:09, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- If I see "Bus Driver (2008–2011)" listed in the "Relevant experience" section of someone's résumé, I would expect it to refer to four years of driving a bus rather than an extended period of video gaming, although after this discussion, I might ask some pointed questions just to make sure. — BarrelProof (talk) 21:18, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- And good luck if the company doesn't find that Euro Truck Simulator 2 is a video game and thought its a company. JuniperChill (talk) 21:32, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- I might not think they were talking about the game, but I'd also assume they were bad at spelling and not hire them, because "Bus Driver" as a job is never spelled that way. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 06:31, 26 September 2024 (UTC)
- To me, the fine points of English writing skills might not seem especially necessary as a job qualification for bus drivers. In fact, I've noticed some pretty sloppy spelling and capitalization by some teachers of writing-intensive courses at both the high school and university levels. For a bus driver, I'd be more interested in their criminal and driving history, safety orientation, martial arts training, basic courtesy, and crowd control skills. — BarrelProof (talk) 08:31, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

- The rapper is called "Busdriver" (one word) in all sources, not Bus Driver?
- With "Friendly Fire", there are a massive amount of things competing for primary topic. In this case there are none. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 06:29, 26 September 2024 (UTC)

Having an issue with the rule doesn't mean you can just vote against it any time it appears.
Please note that we don't have rules on Wikipedia, we have conventions. DIFFCAPS is highly controversial and open to interpretation in any case. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:10, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose We generally keep titles lowercase per MOS:JOBTITLES. But that was a hard-fought discussion with significant opposition, so clearly a significant fraction of the world does expect "Bus Driver" to be capitalized and would be astonished to see the video game here. Basically per Necrothesp. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:37, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose the video game has 511 views but the rapper (who would probably be searched with 2 words at least sometimes) has 1,363 and the generic meaning has 1,500[[2]]. Instead I'd suggest creating a DAB page at the title case version (or at Bus driver (disambiguation) and redirect the title case to it) as no clear primary topic. Crouch, Swale (talk) 16:52, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose Barely-notable game which is not the primary topic. Bus Driver is a person that drives a bus. 162 etc. (talk) 17:07, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- The reviews I posted in the nomination indicate it is far from "barely notable". Whether the article is fully fleshed out has no bearing on notability whatsoever, see WP:NEXIST. The occupation is also never referred to as a proper noun in any sense... ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 17:59, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose: As with Friendly Fire and Red Meat, the uppercase seems ambiguous. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:40, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose: Per Necrothesp.Slender (talk) 21:30, 25 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose due to the possibility of ambiguity. While I cannot speak for other places in the world, in Singapore "bus driver" (or its local equivalent "bus captain") can be capitalized, although the non-capitalized version is more common in places such as news outlets. See this website associated with the Singapore government (The Bus Captain must be an independent individual...), this from a local bus company (... and sign-on bonus of $10,000^ for local Bus Captain!) (not sponsored, just an example), and this Instagram post from another bus company (To prepare for this role, all our Bus Captains (BCs) have been undergoing safety training sessions) for some examples of capitalization.
