I'm not from WikiProject Nigeria, but I added an article on Nigerian nationalism and am requesting review and assistance
Hi, I am not from WikiProject Nigeria, nor am a Nigerian, but I study examples of nationalism and create articles of them on Wikipedia. I created this article: Nigerian nationalism and have based it on a variety of sources. Still I am no expert on the subject and think it should be reviewed and edited by members of WikiProject Nigeria to improve it and increase the material on it, because what I've added is small in comparison to other articles on other nationalisms.--R-41 (talk) 18:21, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Could someone please take a look at the edit history on this one. The newspapers are not all that positive, but that is what they say about it. Comment on the WikiProject X proposal
Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Comment on the Localizing Offline Wikipedia and Deployment in Nigerian High Schools Proposal
Hi Naija People,
After a brief stint with some rural schools in South Western Nigeria, I have realized that access to information for these kids is difficult. This borne my desire to deploy the offline wiki to such school that already have computer labs. I believe that this project will bring us togeter as a group to update the offline wiki and those of us who have the time can even volunteer to join us deploy the offline wiki.
Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page.
Thank you for your time!

WikiProject X is live!
Hello everyone!
You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!
Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

please help with orthography
Please help with Yoruba, Ibo, Hausa etc. orthography, including tone marks. If that is correct, people can properly pronounce Nigerian names, but most of us do not have the references to figure this out on our own. For example, Olusegun Obasanjo is Oluṣẹgun Ọbasanjọ is most English sources, but Olusẹgun Ọbasanjọ with an s in Yoruba wikipedia. Sadguru Maharaj ji
There was a prominent individual in the U.S. and U.K. during the 1970s who went by the name Guru Maharaj Ji, who headed an organization called the Divine Light Mission, and who claimed to be the Perfect Master.
By some coincidence, there is also an individual who was born in Ghana and is active in Nigeria who calls himself Guru Maharaj ji (or Satguru Maharaji, etc.), who claims to be the Perfect Master and, and whose organization is called either the Divine Light mission or One Love Family, which also has followers in the U.K. The Nigerian guru and his movement are mentioned in these news stories and webpages: [1][2][3][4][5]
It would help disambiguate the two individuals if we had an article on the Nigerian guru. Is anyone in this project familiar with him or have access to additional sources? Is he or his organization worth an article? ·:· Will Beback ·:· 19:24, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Update needed
The Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya article needs to be updated. See: Talk:Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya#Update needed for details.
— V = I * R (talk to Ω) 01:11, 18 December 2009 (UTC)
I am not comfortable with the latest version of this article.
- The update warning seems unnecessary. All articles on living people need update, at least until they are no longer living people.
- The "No free image" somehow looks like a Wanted! poster for an unknown fugitive from justice - a distraction
- The redlinks to articles that are unlikely to ever be created add an impression of incompleteness
Somehow the overall effect of the recent changes seems to be reduce the credibility of the article without adding any value
Readers have to treat Wikipedia articles with caution. They are always incomplete, often biased, quite often inaccurate. I think readers know that. Plastering warnings on each article does not seem constructive.
Comments? Aymatth2 (talk) 02:35, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- Aymatth asked me to comment. As I see the edit history, it looks like the update needed was "In November 2009 he supported a motion by the Kano chapter of the ANPP to allow the state governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, to nominate the ANPP candidate for the 2011 governorship elections. The presumptive nominee was Sheikh Ibrahim Khaleel." and this was done. If there are more updates, then they should be done. Certainly we do not leave the tag on because there are expected to be future ones, except in special cases like ongoing news events. I s one of them at issue? In other respects, I consider the most recent edit a good job of rewriting for general style and detail. Sometimes of course that can make inadvertent changes, but I do not see any problems. But it is very possible that there might be some political nuances that I am missing? As for that default image, I agree it's horrible, but it's the one we use--I seem to remember some considerable earlier discussion. I think the first step in reopening that question would be to find or draw a better one. As for the redlinks, it's true we are not likely to have articles on Nigerian legislation, but why shouldn't we, if they are of sufficient importance? We do for the US. DGG ( talk ) 03:06, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
The note on the update flag says it is because the article leaves open the question of whom the governor will nominate as his successor. Since the elections are not due until April 2011, this question may remain open for some time. Presumably, other events will occur before then that should be noted in the article, and some of these may also have uncertain outcome. This article, and all articles about living people, require routine update. I am against putting an {{update}} flag on all bios. There was a centralized discussion on the question of image placeholders. There was no consensus, so no policy change, but in a straw poll 66% agreed that Placeholder images should not be used at all on the main page of articles, and 81% agreed that If placeholder images are retained, they should be modified in appearance. Redlinks are o.k., obviously, but should not be used for for topics that are unlikely ever to have articles. My guess is that these redlinks will stay red for a very long time, perhaps for ever. Aymatth2 (talk) 16:02, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- This seems slightly odd... I'm a bit surprised that there's any controversy here. DGG is correct, all that I did with the article is edit it for style and detail. The only reason that I added the {{update}} template to the article was for the reasons I stated on the talk page and for exactly the reasons that DGG mentioned above: the single statement in the article is dated and should be updated or edited. Once that is accomplished then the tag should definitely be removed.
- As for the "no free image" picture, I can agree with the thought that the image itself could certainly be improved. I don't see that as a valid reason not to use it though, as that issue could be (and really should be) corrected.
- Finally, re: redlinks... I don't see any in the article, so I'm not sure what the problem there is. Generally speaking though, redlinks to articles that could be created should remain.

Unreferenced living people articles bot
User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.
The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Nigeria/Archive 2/Unreferenced BLPs<<<
If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.
Thank you.
- Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Nigeria/Archive 2/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
- There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.

The British Museum wants to give you money and help you write articles!
Yesterday I was lucky enough to attend the Backstage Pass event at the British Museum. It was part of a wider project of engagement with Wikipedia (see WP:GLAM/BM) that has seen them take on a temporary Wikipedian In Residence, User:Witty lama. They see Wikipedia as sharing many of their aims, and they want to encourage involvement by Wikipedians with the museum, and vice versa. They have even offered 5 prizes of £100 at the BM shop for featured articles on BM topics - in any language, Yoruba or whatever. The Benin bronzes would be an obvious one for this Project that's currently shamefully shabby.
Most Wikipedians probably don't know that the BM has curators dedicated to answering phone/email questions about their specialist areas, and most of their department libraries welcome visitors doing bona fide research - and they now seem to recognise that editing Wikipedia articles, especially about items in the BM's collections, counts for those purposes. I know that the first question most people will have is "Can we have images of all their stuff?" and I'd just ask people to be patient on that front. Let's just say that the museum are well aware of our hopes there, there are staff who see advantages to the museum in doing something, and it's being discussed at the highest level. On the other hand it's a very complex area that needs to be handled diplomatically. Literally in some cases - foreign governments can get very touchy about the dissemination of images of artifacts relating to their cultural history, and the museum needs to respect those concerns.
So for the moment the focus is on using the BM's huge resources of books, expertise etc to improve article content, and hopefully that will include articles being peer-reviewed by BM staff. Some of them are quite nervous about doing stuff on Wikipedia, a mixture of fear of professional ridicule, nervousness about the technical aspects, stories of rapid reverts of good-faith edits and just general culture shock - it's a very different world to the one they come from. So I'd ask everyone to look after any BM people that you see around the place, Wikipedia can gain a lot from their involvement and it would be a shame if they're discouraged for any reason.
As I mentioned above, WP:GLAM/BM is the clearing house for the BM's involvement with Wikipedia, and I suggest that further questions/comments are directed there. Le Deluge (talk) 14:12, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Oloye, eh?
Recently I have seen a number of edits changing the lead to articles on notable Yoruba personalities from something like "Xxx is a businessman and politician ..." to "Oloye Xxx is an aristocrat, businessman and politician ..."
The typical convention with Wikipedia biographies is to only put the name in bold and to describe titles awarded or acquired within the text, as "Xxx was given the honorary title of yyy". Also, the English equivalent of a title is usually used in the English Wikipedia, in this case maybe "Chief". I have no problem with noting that the title was awarded, but do not think the bolded Oloye belongs in the intro, and doubt that "is an aristocrat" belongs in the introduction at all. Any comments? Aymatth2 (talk) 01:35, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'd say a compromise might be to keep the title, but move it out of the boldface. I'm not familiar with Wikipedia convention on this elsewhere, but I can say that my experience in Yorubaland is that titles frequently tend to replace a person's name entirely (eg; Otunba Fasawe rather than Otunba Oyewole Fasawe). I know this is essentially (title) (family name), as in King Henry, but so many people frequently seem to use their title as their name (before I knew it was a title, I actually thought Otunba was a name because I never heard anyone call him by any other name). Just my 2 Kobo... Rjhatl (talk) 23:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
I am comfortable with putting the title in front when the title describes the person's most notable role. So:
- Oba Okunade Sijuwade Olubuse II ...
This person is mainly notable for being an Oba (what that means should be explained), so putting the title first seems reasonable (whatever the general conventions are - I don't know either). "Alhaji" or "Chief" are standard titles that I am inclined to put in front of the name, unbolded, because that is what most sources do. But if the individual is someone who just happened to acquire a traditional title along the way and the sources do not usually put it in front, I don't think it belongs in front:
- Walin Hausa Umaru Abdullahi ...
This individual is a judge who was given the title as a compliment. It does not seem to belong. Most sources would not include the title in front of the name.
I suppose a general argument against putting titles in front is that they may get out of date:
- Navy Captain (later Commodore) (now retired) Joseph Abulu ...
Still not sure... Aymatth2 (talk) 02:18, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I am interested in expanding the article on education in Nigeria. by including information regarding the differences in education that women face in Nigeria. Currently, the article that exists on education in Nigeria has no information concerning the fact that there is a disparity between the education of males and females. Not only are boys much more likely to attend school that Nigeria women, they are also more likely to be the focus in the classroom giving them an unfair advantage over women. Patigi / Pategi
There is a very short article called Pategi which has no references, and content of dubious value. Within the article, the name is consistently spelled Patigi. According to Nupe people,
- During the reign of Muhammadu, a Prince named Jimada moved to Patigi, northeast of Bida (not to be confused with near-identically spelt Pategi, southwest of Bida, on the southern and opposite bank of the Niger River) protesting against being ruled by a Fulani (Vandeleur 1898).

The name of Nigeria
I have written about this before. There is reason to look into the validity of the claim that Flora Shaw coined the term Nigeria. There is now a map that confirms that Nigeria was a name in use since 1584 at least in the Latin equivalent of Nigrita. The map is at http://libweb5.princeton.edu/visual_materials/maps/websites/africa/maps-continent/1584ortelius.jpg. Nigeria appears again in a map of 1737 at http://libweb5.princeton.edu/visual_materials/maps/websites/africa/maps-continent/1737%20hase.jpg and 1805 at http://libweb5.princeton.edu/visual_materials/maps/websites/africa/maps-continent/1805%20cary.jpg. There is also documents shown on http://www.slideshare.net/EdKeazor/the-journey-to-amalgamation-a-brief-summary on slide 6 showing that Nigeria was used to define a population in 1790. You can vet this or other sources, but at least address the claim of Flora Shaw coining the name Nigeria. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.21.30.57 (talk) 10:36, 14 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello! I have just made considerable improvement to the entry on Kwali. Now, I think the footnote that says the article is a 'stub' shoiuld be removed. Then, I would like to have the article title changed from 'Kwali' to Kwali Area Council because 'Kwali' is also a name of a town and the article is about an area council that includes Kwali town and nine others. I don't know how to make these changes myself and so I've brought them up for discussion. SUMMARY: 1. Undo the 'stub' footnote. 2. Expand the title to reflect the scopeNigEditor (talk) 07:14, 15 January 2016 (UTC)
This appears to be a place, as mentioned in Ekori (a stub which would benefit from some expert help!), but it redirects to Yakö people which ought to be about the people but is categorised as being about the place. Could someone with local knowledge perhaps have a look and perhaps split that article into the people and the place? I've made a comment at Talk:Yakö people. Thanks. PamD 09:39, 18 January 2016 (UTC)
Unyeada Fishing Festival
Unyeada Fishing Festivalknown locally as Ijok-Irin is an annual Fishing and Cultural Festival of the Unyeada Kingdom in Andoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, Nigeria. Help with an article?
Would anyone be willing to help find sourcing for the article Rita Pam Tarachi? The article is pretty poor off sourcing-wise, as the article relies heavily on primary sources, trivial mentions, and sourcing that wouldn't be considered reliable on Wikipedia. (For example, there's a link to a review from a website that will charge for expedited reviews and openly states that they do not give out less than 4 stars. No mention is given as to what a book would have to do to in order to not receive a high rating.)
The only true claims to fame is that she was nominated for a Shorty Award, received a very brief mention in the Nigerian Tribune as a "world class reference", and she had two reviews via Vent Magazine. I'm not entirely sure of the reliability of Vent, so I've posted at RS/N about that.
Can anyone help find sourcing? Offhand this person looks like she'd probably fail notability guidelines if this was brought to AfD. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:31, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- @Tokyogirl79:, Obviously that topic fails WP:MUSICBIO. It should be listed for AfD. Wikicology, SwisterTwister and Stanleytux should have a thing or two to contribute. Regards. --—OluwaCurtis »» (talk to me) 12:25, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
Comment:: OluwaCurtis, thanks for bringing my attention to this. Tokyogirl79, thanks for your willingness to help but subject of the article appears to fails WP:GNG, WP:NAUTHOR and WP:MUSICBIO perhaps WP:TOOSOON. I can't find any evidence of notability. I tried all I could to find reliable sources that established her notability but all to no avail. The only reliable source I found is the very brief mention in the Nigerian Tribune, you earlier pointed out and the magazine you mentioned lack good editoria oversight/control. The author's description that she's among the "world class reference" is a reflection of his personal view. I don't see that as an evidence of notability. I also have concerns over User:Adrian 8076's behavior towards other editors on this same subject but that will be a different debate. I saw this hoax quote as well. In general, I decided to take it to WP:AfD per this thread. Please, accept my sincere apology, if you feel I had taken the wrong decision. Warm regards. - No worries, I was leaning towards taking it to AfD myself. I just wanted to ask on here first, just in case there were some newspaper articles or other sources that I wouldn't be able to access. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:39, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Auto-assessment of article classes
Following a recent discussion at WP:VPR, there is consensus for an opt-in bot task that automatically assesses the class of articles based on classes listed for other project templates on the same page. In other words, if WikiProject A has evaluated an article to be C-class and WikiProject B hasn't evaluated the article at all, such a bot task would automatically evaluate the article as C-class for WikiProject B.
If you think auto-assessment might benefit this project, consider discussing it with other members here. For more information or to request an auto-assessment run, please visit User:BU RoBOT/autoassess. This is a one-time message to alert projects with over 1,000 unassessed articles to this possibility. ~ RobTalk 01:16, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Where is industry?
I know this is a side comment but I think it is noteworthy that the templates that are available for the articlespace are purely centered on government. Where is industry? Where are science, the arts, philosophy, culture, etc.? BroVic (talk) 11:33, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

- We are working together on the Abortions in Nigeria page, this is the summarized version of what we want to change about the page. Our proposal is to change the wording of the introduction and give some depth to this article. We plan to add information about the history of laws and movements that have had influence on abortions in Nigeria. In addition we would add statistics to show how abortions are affecting the people of Nigeria and expand on the availability of healthcare. Finally, we also want to talk about the main causes of abortions in Nigeria and why the rates seem to be increasing. Bonannot (talk) 00:28, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

- Due to digital divide in many articles emanating from third world countries, Wikipedia seem to be understandably tolerant since most of the sources are offline, especially for communal articles such as this. Concerning the POV,You are free to edit as deem fit, I will look at it later too whenever I'm chanced. But concerning, copyright I just want to say that many Nigerian sites copy directly from Wikipedia so have an idea on dates and use discretion soundly before tagging for removal. Starting in April 2018, this WP will have a "Top 500" page by article popularity
I went through the steps to create WP:WikiProject Nigeria/Popular pages by 'bot (<<-PLEASE DON'T CREATE THIS MANUALLY, LET THE BOT DO IT) and starting in April it should begin collating every article in WikiProject Nigeria and listing it by popularity over a two week period. So give it a few days more and it should start its list.
To see an example of such a page already in work, check out our Indian colleagues: Wikipedia:WikiProject India/Popular pages.
One we have this list, we can more easily see what are the most popular articles, how many views they have per day, and what rating they are currently at. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:50, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

We lack an article for Nigeria's first film: Palaver (1926 film)
While I'm aware that Palaver is problematic on a number of levels, being steeped in colonial racism, etc. it is still quite significant as the first Nigerian film. Would someone here enjoy creating an article for this topic? MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:53, 4 March 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you MatthewVanitas. The reason I didn't create it when I was mass-creating film articles some years ago was I assumed there will be completely zero source covering it, as it was a really old film, and there were many significant Nigerian films in the 1990s that don't have articles because of extremely low internet penetration during those period. But after seeing your post, I did a Google search and I found some coverage, including pictures from the film. I'll definitely create it, as Nollywood is my number one interest on Wikipedia. It would have been nice if Wikipedia had the license for those pictures. HandsomeBoy

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject
The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.
Portals are being redesigned.
The new design features are being applied to existing portals.
At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.
The discussion about this can be found here.
Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.
Background
On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.
Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.
So far, 84 editors have joined.
If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.
If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.
Thank you. — The Transhumanist 07:50, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

- Hello Allegrarr, and welcome to Wikipedia. I believe it does not appear on the first page of Google results, because it is yet to be reviewed by an editor with new page reviewer rights. Official directory of all full professors in Nigerian Universities
Hey guys, there is now an official directory for all full professors in Nigerian Universities. I know being a full prof doesn't translate to auto notability, but if there is an edit-a-thon on Nigerian/African academics, it will be a good place to start. It was done as a collaboration between National Universities Commission and Covenant University. On Wikidata, we can also use it to know the university with the highest number of professors, if all entries can be added to the repository. See the university release here, and visit the main site here. Regards. HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:24, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Anyone available to help a new editor?
Hi friends, I notice that a new user Special:Contributions/Abeytors seems to be trying to write a page on the town of Oje-owoko but is having trouble finding the right place and formatting his information. He/she has tried to add the info to both Sepeteri and the main page. Is anyone available to chat to him/her and help? I don't know where to begin myself because I don't know anything about this town or how to find sources on it for the user. Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
REPORT OF COORDINATOR WIKIPROJECT NIGERIA
This year will make it exactly two years since I got elected/appointed as the coordinator of WikiProject Nigeria. My manifesto was focused on improving quality of articles and increasing the number of GA articles in our WikiProject.
However, shortly after the appointment, I had a medical issue that got me hospitalized for quite a while, after I fully recovered it dawned on me that there was a lack of consistent editors interested in Nigerian articles, and if we must initiate successful projects, we needed to get more editors to join the team. So I tilted more towards recruitment of new editors and training of the inexperienced ones. On the advice of another WikiProject team, I also created a Twitter account, (@WikiProjectNG) to give more awareness that anyone can actually edit Wikipedia. You will be amazed to know that so many Nigerians still do not know that they literally can edit Wikipedia.
On the issue of GA, even though I wasn't able to functionally be of assistance, I'm glad that a respected member of this WikiProject, Versace1606 is in the process of getting about 4 more articles to GA level, please let's assist him in whatever way we can. It doesn't matter who does it, the most important thing is that our GA articles is on a increase. On the platform of WikiProject Nigeria and AfroCine, I also virtually trained some young Nigerians (mostly university students) on contributing to WikiData (by November we should start with Wikipedia). Collectively, the state of our sporting (especially women) and higher institution articles can also be said to be better than it was when I was elected (this was one of my fulfilled campaign promises).
Finally, I believe I was elected for one year, which is expired, I will be glad to handover to someone else with fresh ideas, but if no one is interested, I will be more glad to continue. Above all, I am open to suggestions and new ideas. I believe that by working together we can improve the state of contents central to this WikiProject.
Long live Nigeria, Long live Wikipedia.. Long live WikiProject Nigeria...

- Hi HandsomeBoy,
- Kudos on your efforts on this Wikiproject so far. You tried your best and it shows. I also think that the biggest hindrance to covering enough topics on Nigeria and Africa as a whole, is the very few number of people contributing from the country/continent. Which is why even myself have been quite focused on getting more genuine people to contribute, and when that happens, also protecting them from being chased away through hostile attitudes. So, I think you are very right and you did well by trying to get more people involved. Thank you for taking on this "thankless", but very important role!--Jamie Tubers (talk) 22:43, 26 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you HandsomeBoy, your effort is really appreciated. Indeed this WikiProject is not as active as it should be. On my part I often check User:AlexNewArtBot/NigeriaSearchResult to help in polishing/rescuing Nigeria-related articles but I have less time now than I had previously. However, I am ready to help anywhere if my attention is requested. – Ammarpad (talk) 02:06, 27 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for the nice words and links, I am really encouraged and it literally put a smile on my face. I will also follow up with that link whenever AFD list is low, and I have more time on me. The fact that it includes draft articles is also an added feature, making it easier to spot potential editors adding content that is related to this WikiProject. HandsomeBoy (talk) 15:49, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- Hope you are doing good. I am still positive about the content on Nigeria issues because of the small number of editors we have. If you want to continue, I think you should. Regards.Alexplaugh12 (talk) 20:41, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
About the Etche
Please take a look at the article Etche. There is edit warring about whether the Etche people should be considered a subgroup of the Igbo, or not. I don’t see any sources being provided on either side. I have semi-protected the article, which had the effect of shutting down the “not a subgroup” arguers who tend to be IPs, but it was not my intention to take a side. Can someone here find sources and add them to the article, to put an end to this disagreement? Thanks. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:23, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
- MelanieN, I have now added sources to clarify that they're indeed a subgroup of the Igbo. Thanks a lot for bringing this to our notice. NNADIGOODLUCK (Talk|Contribs) 17:54, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

I am trying to get them to use the article talk page - which obviously is the place where this will be decided. -- MelanieN (talk) 19:26, 18 February 2020 (UTC)

Just Joined WikiProject Nigeria
Hi Everyone, I just want to say hello to all my Nijas in Wikipedia. Well-done everybody for all your selfless and sacrificial contribution you guys have been making to Nigeria's wikiproject and the entire Wikipedia vision and goal. I live in Dublin, Ireland but love creating AfC mostly for Nigerians I believe merit notability. I have just submitted article for the Deputy Governor of Ondo State Alfred Agboola Ajayi, which I have tried to tag for you guys to notice it help to improve it to avoid being declined. But I am not sure if I did that tagging correctly??? I'm still learning how to navigate talkpages and so on. I really consider myself a novice writer but I am equally very upbeat to learn how I can improve and professionalise my writing in Wikipedia. I joined Wikipedia in 2013 but have not been making serious contributions (only authored about 3-4 articles since then). However, since during the lock-down I have started making improvement and currently have been able to compile about 9 articles in the last 2-3 months, which I have submitted for reviews. Unfortunately, so far three of the articles have come back with few complains still after extensive updating based on initial feed-backs ranging from being overly praiseworthy, promotional, to even claims of lacking in notability and one accusation of whether I have been paid to write one of the articles given that I sounded more promotional than being neutral. All these final comments came one after the other and to be honest I was almost discouraged and demoralised. But because I am somebody that like feed-backs and constructive criticisms I tried to brave up and take the beating like a big boy. Though the canning, I must confess, has been very painful to endure. Imagine after more than four different reviewers got back to you with suggestions on what to improve on the article: like saying that the article was overly promotional, or needs more independent secondary sources or have unacceptable primary sources, etc and therefore needs to be re-written. Then you humbly obeyed and went through many days and hours of meticulously re-editing and updating but only to be told that the article is being declined because the secondary credible sources presented were mostly "interviews" or "passing mentions". I wondered why it was not declined in the first instance as unworthy to meet the standard benchmark than leading someone on to suffer for nothing. Very confusing and demoralising. That has been my experience recently and I hope I can get help from Nigerian pros on how best to improve my writing to avoid making costly mistakes again. Nice to meet you guys here.(Ozonyiawiki (talk) 15:51, 30 June 2020 (UTC)).

Could someone have a look at Yemi Osinbajo
In this article, the section "corruption allegations" is quite contentious. Could someone take a look in the page history and see if those sources are generally considered reliable and if the allegations are well-founded enough to be included in the BLP? Thanks, Sam-2727 (talk) 16:46, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Sam-2727, thank you for bringing this to the attention of our WikiProject. The edit warring on the article, started with the addition of this by Imperialization40 on 15 July 2020. The additions are totally libelous and defamatory and shouldn't be added again according to WP:BLPREMOVE. Pinging @Danidamiobi and Kaizenify: from our WikiProject to chime in, since they reverted some additions. —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 17:25, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Pinging @Ikemis: who was part of the edit war. —Nnadigoodluck🇳🇬 18:53, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Nnadigoodluck, and thanks for reaching out. Yes indeed, I created the "Corruption" heading adhering to the NPOV policy. However, I do not agree with your stance that the heading was "totally libelous and defamatory". If you take a look at the edit, several authoritative sources were cited including Transparency International's allegation of vote-buying. Furthermore for each allegation a response from Yemi Osinbajo denying the allegation was cited, including the constitutionality of his emergency management funds withdrawal and the National Assembly's response exonerating him. Be that as it may, we believe the heading despite all the safeguards taken for adequate referencing is contentious amongst new editors (based on their recent contributions) and IP's with activity on the persons article. I have since advocated the use of the talk page, and recommended to user Kaizenify and Sam-2727 for the heading to be taken down until a consensus is reached, in order to avoid foolhardy edits resulting in warring. Imperialization40 (talk) 18:55, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Hello Nnadigoodluck,
Permit me to say that the 'corruption allegation' section should be taken down. It appears like there is a prejudice, if not an agenda, to have those one-sided claims on that page. A more balanced post has been put up a number of times to replace it but some persons keep taking it down. As for the Transparency International claim, it was quoted out of context. If I may, why was the World Bank and Oxford awards given for TraderMoni not added to the Corruption Allegations? Also, the FIRS claim by Timi Frank was that the VP got N90bn but his party, the PDP claimed it was N40bn while a certain Jackson Ude claimed it was N2bn. Why the discrepancies? This is a pointer that it is false. Wikipedia should not be a propaganda channel. TracyChelsea (talk) 18:55, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
Notability of Ipo Arakeji
Can someone familiar with Osun State and the general political sub-divisions of cities, villages, etc. in Nigeria look at Draft:Ipo Arakeji from a WP:Notability and WP:PLACEOUTCOMES perspective? It appears to be a populated area of less than 3 square km. surrounded by less-populated land.
If this page WOULD survive a deletion discussion then the draft should be improved and citations added. If it would not, it's probably best to let the editor know that the topic simply does not qualify for a stand-alone article in the English Wikipedia.
My hunch is that if it's got a recognized government, it will meet Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, if it does not, it's iffy. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:06, 29 August 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Davidwr:,
- Its nice to still see you wikifying contents on Wikipedia after so many years. I remember you during my very very early years on Wikipedia when I was working on The Headies article. Back to the article, I agree that the article should be notable, we normally keep articles on towns such as this, but it will be difficult getting internet sources for this (same with most Nigerian towns). However, I am confident there will be significant offline sources. But I want to mention that it was not until 2014 that the community became fully autonomous from Ikeji-Arakeji, although they have been having their rulers centuries earlier, but not recognized directly by the government (only through other rulers). So I wouldn't have mind a merger with the more prominent Ikeji Arakeji if we were in 2014, but presently they are completely separate communities, so that is completely out of it. I think Wikimedia Nigeria has a thing with some public libraries in Nigeria, or if there is an active Wikimedia community in Obafemi Awolowo University, those are places who can get offline sources for this article. I will speak to someone if there is a Wikimedia community in OAU. I don't know what else I can do. Maybe some other persons have something to add? HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:27, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- I am aware that some Nigerian universities are properly digitalized, if we can come to an agreement for them to give us access to their portal or get some of them to become editors I think we could easily search the database for coverage. As it is, the only tool I have is the internet and going to a library that is close to my house. This is the more reason why good strategization is required.HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:50, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- HandsomeBoy Thank you for the accurate information, Ipo Arakeji is different from Ikeji Arakeji and there is a copy of the official gazette from the State Government. Although most parts of the town was known as Ikeji Arakeji for so many years, however, the town has its own Palace and recognized traditional ruler. What do you suggest? I also appreciate your efforts User:Davidwr You are doing a really great job on this subject Anonymoussix (talk) 00:40, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

If you're truly interested in adding content, that will be a great avenue to make cinematic contributions to Wikipedia. Watch this space for information on that. Someone have a look?
The article Superstar (2015 film) is up for deletion and I was wondering if anyone could have a look for sourcing. It feels like there should be more out there, however Google isn't the greatest at searching non-European or American English websites. I was wondering if someone who is more familiar with getting around this could look for sourcing, to see if it passes NFILM as at present there really isn't enough to firmly establish that it does. - Thank you for bringing this to the attention of the WikiProject, hopefully someone has a look...keeping in mind the geographical bias that may arise on such films.HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:18, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

First woman/women elected to parliament
Hello. I am aware that Wuraola Esan was the first woman in the National Assembly, as an appointed Senator. Does anyone know who the first woman (or group of women) elected to parliament was? Cheers, Number 57 18:27, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Number 57: When you say "Parliament", I believe you mean "Federal House of Representatives". My hunch tells me Patricia Etteh, but will double check and get a reference for it.HandsomeBoy (talk) 05:02, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Margaret Icheen was the first woman speaker of any Nigerian legislature 1, 2 HandsomeBoy (talk) 05:06, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Franca Afegbua was the first woman elected senator in Nigeria 1. HandsomeBoy (talk) 05:18, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- From my findings, Margaret Ekpo and Janet Nwadiogo Mokelu were the first women parliament members at state level. HandsomeBoy (talk) 05:39, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Also want to point out that when Wuraola Esan became a federal senator (from 36) in 1958, there was no woman member of house of representatives (from 312) in history yet 1. HandsomeBoy (talk) 06:01, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Since there was no woman in the house of rep election of 1959, then we need to check if the next election, which is 1964 Nigerian general election if it produced a woman.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:09, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have found some references stating that the first women (possibly three) were elected to the House of Representatives in 1979. The article on Janet Akinrinade claims she was elected to the Constituent Assembly in 1977, which would make her the first. However, I cannot find any information about the 1977 election and am wondering whether there really was a proper election, or whether delegates were indirectly elected by other bodies? Number 57 09:23, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- I'm also a bit confused by the claim that Esan was a Senator from 1958; the source claims that this happened at the 1958 elections, but there were no federal elections in 1958 (there were in December 1959). The sources I have seen say she was appointed in 1960,[11][12] (the latter gives her appointment date as 8 January 1960, which would be more logical if she was appointed after the December 1959 elections. Number 57 09:29, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Number 57: Sources suggest there were elections in 1958 and 1959, what is unclear is if hers took place in 1959 or 58 (it may be possible that for some odd reasons, her constituent election happened earlier than other regions in Nigeria). I won't also rule out the possibility of an error from references stating it happened in 1958. This sort of discrepancy in records is one of my motivations of contributing to Wikipedia. I believe Wikipedia should be used as a tool to propagate correct information even when some sources could be missing it. Secondly, I am not convinced that a legislator in 1979 will be the first. According to the scholarly article, "Women's Political Participation in State Legislatures in South West Nigeria" (2018), it says "...The first republic (1960-1965) saw only an insignificant number of women in Southeast playing prominent roles. In the Eastern house of Assembly for instance, only two women were members. Mrs Margaret Ekpo and Mrs Janet Muokelu. From 1960 - 1965, there were only two female legislators in the federal parliament and four female legislators in the whole country...". This suggest to me that we had female legislators during the 1964 elections! HandsomeBoy (talk) 05:52, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
- Since there was no woman in the house of rep election of 1959, then we need to check if the next election, which is 1964 Nigerian general election if it produced a woman.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:09, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Obinwanne Okeke
HandsomeBoy, good evening. I made a discovery that MIGHT need the attention of this Wikiproject. A certain JoshuaMokwuah made some edits on Obinwanne Okeke. Considering the fact that he’s yet to be proven guilty, I do think that some edits needs to be reverted until he’s proven guilty — my thought though. Timi (talk) 19:13, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Timileyin Olalere: I have gone through most his changes, and I have to agree with you that I am not comfortable with may of them. At the same I want to be careful not to remove additions based on my personal assessment, and not necessarily against policy or guideline since that might be tending towards WP:OWN, and everyone should be able to freely contribute on Wikipedia. I also do not have enough time to invest in this article at the moment, but if you can make specific edit suggestions, I will review and make the changes on the article. First of all, I am going to remove the "...is a Nigerian fraudster." as the first sentence, as I believe that is giving undue weight to an individual that has only been convicted once. If he is sentenced, I'd rather have "...is a convicted Nigerian entrepreneur". Please send me your suggestions, so as to save me time, thanks. You are doing a great job monitoring the article.HandsomeBoy (talk) 06:08, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- @HandsomeBoy: I'm not Timileyin Olalere but I do have some "style-related" input: Any sentence that says "... is a convicted ..." should be followed by the crime he was convicted of, or possibly a layman's term for the crime if the actual charges are in "legalese." "Convicted [nationality] entrepreneur" is confusing, "... is a convicted [criminal charge] and entrepreneur from [nation]" or "... [nationality] entrepreneur convicted of [criminal charge]..." or something similar would be much better. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 14:23, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Davidwr: thanks for stopping by, and providing your always insightful interpretations of Wikipedia policies and guidelines. I have definitely taken notes and will apply that in the future. That being said, I will like to know what you think about the lede sentence for this article. When Bri created this article, the lede read "Nigerian businessperson", which I felt is more appropriate than the current "Nigerian fraudster" that was introduced by JoshuaMokwuah in September 2020. Before the fraud case, he was probably borderline notable (or soft/weak delete) as he has been independently featured on BBC, Forbes and several other Notable Nigerian media outlets. Plus, while he has already pleaded guilty, the case is still the court. I made a change, but was quickly reverted by Iridescent. Initially, I wanted to ignore and will still do, but since you are here I would just love to know what you think just for enlightenment purposes or in case of another similar situation in the future. Maybe I am just being too careful, but I think before Wikipedia categorizes someone as a fraudster alone as the intro lede, there should be more than what I am currently seeing as in the case of Invictus Obi. I was not convinced by the if most sources call someone a fraudster, then he should be addressed as such on Wikipedia argument by Iridescent.HandsomeBoy (talk) 23:23, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

We are usually very careful with BLP articles because of potential harm to the subject. I'm not sure how a Wikipedia article could further harm someone who has pled guilty to a $11M fraud case in a U.S. federal court. The guilty plea relieves us of concern IMO; BLP protections wrt to a description as a "fraudster" seem irrelevant now. If we want to be extra careful maybe "confessed fraudster" would be appropriate, but I don't see the necessity. – ☆ Bri (talk) 04:11, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
- @HandsomeBoy: @Timileyin Olalere: @Davidwr: Obinwanne Okeke has pled guilty for the charges against him before a federal judge. Bri brought this to my notice. He cannot be an 'alleged fraudster' after a sworn confession has been accepted by a federal judge. This made sense to me hence the change. I'm Nigerian too so I quite understand the sentiments but I don't think they are relevant to the article.
- HandsomeBoy sorry for not being quite active (Job issues and all). I guess the decision has been made. But I do still believe the article isn't just right. I'm not affiliated to him or anything but it's quite awkward to me. Nevertheless, if it's among the Wikipedia policies to throw the positive side of an article and only give the negative side (idk what happened to the neutral view policy: WP:POV) then it's totally OK by me. Members of Borno State House of Assembly
Are members of the Borno State House of Assembly generally presumed notable? That is, do they generally receive enough coverage to meet WP:GNG? In the United States, the equivalent groups - the members of the 50 states' legislatures - would almost always qualify under WP:GNG. I don't know if the same is true in Nigeria or not, so I am asking. A new editor has drafted an article on a newly-elected member here. The draft needs major trimming upon acceptance, but if notability is not clear, I won't bother moving it into the main encyclopedia. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 04:12, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- According to WP:NPOLITICIAN, elected state members of house of assembly should be notable. Considering that Borno State is in the Northern region who have limited internet penetration, you might not find many online sources to meet GNG. Personally, if I see such an article in mainspace, the only thing I can do is to add maintenance tags for more references and improvement. I think it has every right to be in mainspace (as long as no other policy is being broken), I will open the article rightaway for more context. HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:11, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- I guess my question was more along the lines of "is there anything particular about Nigerian politics that would say otherwise." Hypothetically, a nation could have "state legislatures in name only" that had no real power and whose elected members received no more press coverage than a small-town mayor would. As an analogy, in the United States, some county- and city-level lawmaking bodies are basically toothless, in others, they exercise a lot of power and, while not "automatically" meeting WP:NPOLITICIAN since it's not a "state-level office," their members stand a good chance at meeting WP:NBIO or WP:GNG. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 16:33, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- They actually do. State has a high level of independence and immunity from federal. What I find troubling is that there is another prominent individual by the same name (likely a relation)1 2. There might be sources in Hausa, if we can get this to a stub, it will be fine by me. HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:52, 3 December 2020 (UTC)

This was moved into the main encyclopedia without sources and poorly written. It now has one source and I've cleaned up the writing a little.
How you can help:
- If you are highly confident that this person is NOT "notable," nominate it for deletion. Please check for sources before nominating though.
- If you are highly confident that this person IS "notable," say so on the talk page, provide some good references either in the article or its talk page that remove all doubt, then remove the {{notability}} template.
- If you can help find suitable sources, add them to the article if they back up what is in there now or, if they are suitable sources but aren't needed yet, add them to the talk page so other editors can use them to improve the article. Once enough solid sources are actually being used, remove the {{BLP sources}} template.
- Do what you can to help with the tone of the article to make it more encyclopedic. When it's good enough, remove the {{tone}} template.
A note to the primary page authors, AhmedYusuf123 and Geedado: You are encouraged to help out, but I would ask that you not remove the three templates mentioned above. If the page is improved and the templates have not been removed, put a note on the talk page asking for someone to review the page and either remove the template or tell you what more needs to be done. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 23:29, 5 December 2020 (UTC)

Is this appropriate?
I wanted to make an edit at Hushpuppi when I received a warning from a higher authority. So my question is, since Obinwanne Okeke is a fraudster (who's yet to be proven), don't you think it would be appropriate if Hushpuppi can be edited? What am I saying? The short description says: “Nigerian Socialite” instead of "Nigerian Fraudster" and the lead sentence isn't anywhere close to what we know him as, someone who isn't "warned" should tell me on what to do. Timi (talk) 22:06, 3 December 2020 (UTC)
- Funny thing is while a pre-fraudcase Ivictus was a celebrated entrepreneur that founded several companies with many high profile individuals on the board, Hushpuppy is a narcisitc fraudster who use stolen funds to buy expensive cars and display on social media. But Wikipedia hierarchy will rather soften its stance on him, appalling! HandsomeBoy (talk) 06:25, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

- HandsomeBoy, Exactly my point! Na Hushpuppi be the real OG wire wire here. If my hypothesis is correct & Invictus did in-fact run street on top that article creator head or person wey him sabi, lol that one be say Invictus don buy market finish. Can I?
List of Nigerian entrepreneurs; is a Wikipedia list article with notable Entrepreneurs who (i) has few amount of number of citations to back up their notability (ii) and the citation method used is relatively 'strange' or awkward and hard to understand. Few weeks ago, I received a warning after trying to expand Erica's article and somehow I decided to be indoors with my drafts. So, I wanted to know if I can go on to expand articles needing citations and give them a better tone. PS: An experienced editor can guide me while I do the job. PSS: Can I across create articles listed in the article for creation section on the project home page?, Ty,
Timi (talk) 22:23, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Timileyin Olalere:, great to see you again. The reason List of Nigerian entrepreneurs does not have many references is because it only contains the name of the entrepreneurs, with a strict inclusion criteria that an article must exist for an entry to be added. There are many similar lists like that on Wikipedia. While that might not be the best practice, it is allowed since the wiki-linked article would already have references. Concerning Erica, to me she is close to passing WP:NACTOR, but she needs to have significant role in at least one or two more films for me to be comfortable with her being in mainspace. I might be wrong, and can understand if another editor thinks she is already notable because of her cult following, but based on existing consensus among many experienced editors on Wikipedia, participating in Big Brother Naija is not a credible claim for notability. Same reason Tacha, Efe, CeeC, Tboss are all regarded as not-notable (Some were deleted via AFD discussions. You can see this discussion for some insights Tacha Tacha2. Note that Efe won it, Erica didn't.). But in the case of Erica, even before BBN, she was already a fast upcoming actress, so I think her chances are brighter than everyone of the other nn BBN housemates that I mentioned. Till then, you can continue to improve the draft or seek alternative views from some other Wikipedians who think she's already notable. Let me know if anything is not clear, regards. HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:58, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you @HandsomeBoy: for the kind reply; sadly I’m not the creator of Erica’s article and it's the least of article's on my mind.
- The List of Nigerian entrepreneurs is a Wikipedia list and I’m aware of this. I wanted to acquire the permission to expand these notable articles. I wanted a “Yes. You can” and “No. You’re not allowed” Timi (talk) 20:19, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- Timileyin Olalere Ohhhh.....but you don't need my permission or the permission of anyone to contribute to Wikipedia. I don't even have the power to stop or give anyone a go-ahead to edit on Wikipedia. Please feel free to contribute, as long as you follow Wikipedia policy and guidelines.HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:39, 19 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Timileyin Olalere: When you say "I'm of this" do you mean you are an entrepreneur in Nigeria? You should read WP:Conflict of interest and WP:Paid-contributions disclosure before editing. If you intend on editing in areas where you have a conflict of interest, it is strongly recommended that you follow that guideline. If you are being paid to edit Wikipedia, you must disclose this as outlined in the "paid-contributions disclosure" policy. As a general rule, writing about yourself or anything closely connected to you is strongly discouraged (see WP:Autobiography). davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 16:15, 19 December 2020 (UTC)

Wiki Music criteria
Can someone with Nigeria Entertainment Awards to his name with verifiable source be qualified for a music criteria? BadEdithor (talk) 09:09, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- @BadEdithor: Depends, is it a nomination or actually winning the award? I would say winning an NEA is a good claim of notability, especially since there will be an increased likelihood that other credible sources would cover such individual, but if its just a nomination then it gets more subjective. Depends on the category, year of the ceremony, etc. While the NEAs is a notable award, its awarding process is not as thorough and critically acclaimed as The Headies. A nomination in a main category of the Headies will almost certainly translate to notability.HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:43, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- He won the category he was nominated for and that was in 2017 with reliable source, can that still pass? BadEdithor (talk) 18:24, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

- Deshinor. BadEdithor (talk) 21:40, 24 December 2020 (UTC)
- Before I share my view, I'd like you to know that whatever I say is advisory based on my experience as an editor; especially when it comes to African entertainment articles, which is the aspect on Wikipedia I am mostly involved in. But it's still at your prerogative to decide to either heed to it or seek further clarification elsewhere, there will be no hard feelings as WikiProject Nigeria is a friendly environment, similar to what is offered at WP:TEAHOUSE.
- I have done an exhaustive search on the singer, and the summary of my findings is that as regards passing the requirements for WP:NMUSIC, it is still a case of WP:TOOSOON. This is further emphasized since he won the "most promising act" category at the NEAs, which shows he has potential to be notable, but after assessing his musical career from then till now, I am still not convinced he is there yet. Assessing the available sources (GNG), the best sources I could find on him were all published in November 2020, which can give legitimate concerns. While he was featured in this song, the coverage gives more credence to Laycon. This starts well but it is lacking in sufficient content. This interview buttresses that he is upcoming, which is understandable since it was published in 2017. Moreso, it does not seem independent enough. This is also more about Laycon. Those are the best sources I could find, I think his best route is through WP:NMUSIC, not the broad GNG. HandsomeBoy (talk) 20:49, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Articles about Gubernatorial Elections in Nigeria
- I have submitted a rapid grant request to the Wikimedia Foundation seeking to organize an online writing contest on the English Wikipedia to create articles about gubernatorial elections in all the 36 states of Nigeria. Nigeria has conducted gubernatorial elections in 1979, 1983, 1992, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2019. But, articles about these elections are missing on Wikipedia and this project will seek to specifically solve this problem.
- The contest is expected to run from 1st March 2021 till 31st May 2021.
- Overall winner is expected to receive a HP Laptop while the runner-up and second runner-up are expected to receive a Tecno SPARK 5 PRO and Romoss 20000 mAh Power Bank respectively.
- I've created two samples of articles that will be created during the contest which are 2020 Edo gubernatorial election and 2020 Ondo gubernatorial election.
- Your comments regarding the contest are duly welcome here. Thanks. —Nnadigoodluck███ 16:11, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Good luck with getting it sorted out. One thing that I think should be mentioned to participants is not to upload any photo of the candidates they find to Wikipedia for the infobox – any images uploaded will need to be freely available. We don't want to end up with a load of copyvios being uploaded.
- Also, I'd suggest using a different election results template – one that shows the full party names (I don't think it's very helpful for general readers to be presented with a list of 1-3 letter acronyms) and lists the full results (invalid votes) etc. I've added one to the articles in question, which has the added advantage of doing the percentage calculations automatically.
- To aid navigation between the articles, and to see which ones are missing, I'd recommend creating a templates for each year linking to each of the gubernatorial elections held that year – something like {{1889 United Kingdom local elections}}.
- It might also be worth explaining what voters being 'accredited' means. I've never heard this term being used before. Is it the number of voters who arrived at the polling stations and were ticked off the list, even if they didn't cast a vote? Cheers, Number 57 17:01, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Number 57, Thanks a lot for the feedback, recommendations and edits on the election pages, they're duly appreciated. Per your comments, I've updated all the party templates to now show the full party names. Yes, you're right about the accredited voters, Nigeria operates a voter register and when a voter arrives the polling unit, he/she must have their name marked on the register. Some voters after the accreditation leave the voting venue without actually voting and that's why accredited voters are sometimes different from the total votes cast. —Nnadigoodluck███ 18:19, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Cool, that's what I suspected it might be! Also, I don't think updating the shortname templates is the right way to fix this problem, as they are also used for infoboxes, which are now showing parties' full names (e.g. at 2015 Nigerian general election), plus having long party names disrupts {{Election box}} as it has a defined width for party names and in many cases now displays over two rows (as you can see here). I think it would be better to keep the templates as acronyms, but to avoid using the Election box template for full election result tables. Cheers, Number 57 18:31, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Number 57 I've now changed them back to the shortnames. Thanks. —Nnadigoodluck███ 20:14, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

- This is a good one, very good one. I will certainly contribute, maybe not compete (due to scheduling issues), but I will contribute. Since it is an online contest, it is likely that a non-Nigerian will win the prize, I hope you considered the cost implications of that in your budget. Secondly, in the elections in Nigeria template, it'd be great if the regional elections of 1951, 1953 and 1954 is also captured in the contest but can understand if we want to keep it in scope to governorship elections only. All in all, well done! I plan to do something similar for Nigerian football, but am still gathering momentum on the right approach to take and will certainly be learning from this. HandsomeBoy (talk) 11:52, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- HandsomeBoy, Thanks a lot for your feedback and recommendations. About a non-Nigerian winning the prize, the cost implications was considered during the preparation of the budget. For some reasons, we're going to capture only governorship elections at this time. It'll really be great if you do something like this for Nigerian football. More grease! —Nnadigoodluck███ 12:41, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

- @212.100.79.42: with over 300 citations on Google Scholar, I was expecting to see some coverage on Google news, I was surprised to find none. Being the first Igbo neurosurgeon sounds promising, but I will be more comfortable interpreting auto-notability if he was the first in Nigeria. Can you find coverage in reliable sources? Nyanardsan came across this article earlier and mentioned it on Discord, which led to a discussion trying to figure out if the flag is actually real. None of the sources currently on the page are reliable, and the only source that goes beyond a bare assertion (the crwflags.com one) is talking about a different entity. The state website doesn't seem to have the flag, and the ministers' pictures all have just the Nigerian flag behind them.
A few questions for anyone who knows:
- Is the flag currently in the article real?
- If it's fake, does the state have a different flag or no flag?
- If it's real, is there some reliable source that shows or describes the flag?

Merge?
It looks to me like these two articles are about the same place. Am I mistaken or should they be merged? —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 19:28, 23 December 2021 (UTC)
- @Mx. Granger: LGAs are really a political designation that is mostly conceptual rather than an actual historical settlement. From what I can see, there is an LGA known as "Ikot-Abasi", then within that LGA there are several villages, one of which is known as "Ikot-Abasi" (notice that "Ikot-Abasi" is listed as a village in Ikpa Ibekwe clan?). If this is true, there can be a case for separate articles because while LGAs are generally notable, they tend to change overtime (depends on political climate and economical needs). But the village will always remain notable. Despite this, I will support a merge since the contents of both articles does not demonstrate their differences. I'm curious what you all think of certain military operations/actions by the Nig. govt - namely python dance and croc smile, seems to be missing here. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 08:35, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

- @Bokoharamwatch: and Bduke Operation Python Dance, otherwise known as Operation Egwu Eke in Ibo Language, was launched at the wake of heightened tension in the South East following activities of the now outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB. It was launched in 2019 and it seems like they do it every year. While for crocodile smile, the army said it is a confidence-building patrol that seeks to reassure the people of Rivers state and the Niger Delta that the army is ready to work. And it also fight crimes like cultism, militancy, and kidnapping so that people can go about their business without fear. --Idoghor Melody (talk) 09:58, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

I'm considering deleting the draft; it's been declined twice now. No point. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 11:39, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- Assuming the kidnap actually happened (i.e if it was successful) it would have been accepted. HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:18, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- Any more such arguments about this issue that I can answer? Not attacking anyone here, if anything I want to know more about the sorts of things I might meet on this that are likely to be (un)convincing. I often find though when I question such, I may be met with silence or more policy hurdles. In any case I'd like to practise by answering all these objections, excuses or justifications all at once. Also we dont know that. I don't think we know that if the kidnapping occurred this would be different. Feel free to accept my challenge. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 15:06, 9 January 2022 (UTC)
- I understand you. What I mean is that if every kidnap attempt is having an independent articles, Wikipedia content may lose its factual value. Also, per WP:CRYSTALBALL, there is a level of substantiated coverage that is needed for such as article, and it is not common with "attempt" articles. This does not mean that a terrorist attempt can not be notable for Wikipedia, it just means it is easier to attain notability if it graduates from an attempt to an actual incident.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:40, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Focus on my mind
SO much stuff, so little time to cover it. I may need to refocus on mission. Nigeria, Nigeria.... Bokoharamwatch (talk) 18:31, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

Sabon Birni? Goronyo?
- Can you wikilink and highlight the specific issues you are having? Sabon Birni and Goronyo while a stub, seem good to me. HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:16, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. There seem to be several killings in Sokoto. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 22:53, 8 January 2022 (UTC)
- You can create a list page as a sub of your userpage where you will be itemizing all of these. This is so we won't lose track of the happenings. Even if we don't have independent articles for all of them, we can certainly have a combined article that covers the security situation in Sokoto State.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:28, 10 January 2022 (UTC)

Others
My focus has come at a good time. There is at least one of the recent stubs (2018 Adamawa Taraba) proposed for deletion. Possibly more may follow. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 18:22, 13 January 2022 (UTC)
- The article is quite short and not well integrated into Wikipedia. Perhaps you should expand it more. Secondly, please try to indent your comments and replies using the semi-colon. Also, looking at Draft:Gombe kidnap attempt, I completely disagree with the first decline reason, Chibok is not even in Gombe so that should not be a basis for a decline. Can I also ask why you use AFC instead of creating them directly? Please indent your replies!! HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:27, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- I guess articles like this is why I decided to refocus on BH articles (as the Niger delta is not as hot). So many/much so little time. I could create several stubs, but might annoy people. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 22
- 09, 16 January 2022 (UTC) Oh and for the rest, see section above, and where I discuss this. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 22
- 15, 16 January 2022 (UTC) ps A bit more explanation. This had only one reference that wasn't banned or a blog.

FIRST ANTI-BULLYING DAY HELD IN LAGOS, NIGERIA by Dr.NIYI OSILAJA
Leadnow Youth Development Initiative In conjunction with the Lagos State Ministry of Education held its first ever anti-bullying campaign to mark the 2022 International Day Against Violence, Bullying At School Including Cyberbullying; perhaps the first of its kind to assume its loudest in Nigeria since its observance across the world.
The event which was held at Ikeja Grammar School had in attendance about 300 students. Guests speakers from all walks of life including the schools' counsellors and teachers as well as representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Education.
The theme of this year's event is: Lift Each Other Up.
The theme, though borrowed from Canada where the celebration originated, is being adopted to mark this year's anti-bullying day. The theme portrays elemental significance of tolerance, love and care for young people including adults who are faced with threats of bullying, that in the face of circumstantial ordeals in which they have been maltreated and traumatised, suffered maganalisation and discrimination, they can be strengthened, and in addition, that prevention and elimination of violence and bullying related attitude is possible in our society
Speaking at the event, the initiator and the head of the youth organisation, Dr Niyi Osilaja said that the time has come now to give anti-bullying vigorous campaign and serious sensitization. Young people were asked to speak up and report bullying cases in the anti-bullying box shared and given to schools by the organisation. A book entitled: Overcoming Bullying in School - a parental, teacher and social responsibility was launched, together with Leadnow Club.
Since Sylvester Oromoni saga that took hold of the social media in 2021, which apparently caused commotion in the nation, bullying has gained a nationwide attention with Lagos State Government making a serious move against it.
On the 10th of December, 2021 Governor Sanwo-Olu led a massive campaign against bullying in schools while at the commissioning of a hostel and block of classrooms at Lagos State Model College, Ikorodu. The Governor said, "Let us all stop bullying, we would not allow bullying in any of our schools. If you are in a senior school, you are not meant to bully your junior pupils. You are meant to encourage and support them. You should never bully any students because they will also grow up to become senior students. So, say it out, if anybody is unnecessarily bullying. It is when you support each other that you will grow to become great students and citizens of this nation.” This is a social problem in our society today which remains a thing of great concern to everyone. It is believed that this will curb bullying and all sort of violence in schools and promote peace and development. 105.112.75.83 (talk) 15:48, 27 February 2022 (UTC)

Help with this draft page: Yonov Frederick Agah
Dear all, I hope that you are all fine? Please note that the Wikipedia page of Yonov Frederick Agah, was moved to the draft space. It was stated that "incubate in draftspace, BLP for active diplomat that badly sourced. Great article apart from that". In this case, as Wikipedia articles that have not been improved on will be deleted after six months - I wanted to kindly request help in improving the page, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Yonov_Frederick_Agah thank you. Planetearth285 (talk) 11:40, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Planetearth285: I have added the article to my watchlist. I will make some contributions as time permits. But a quick one, instead of writing Teaching, 1978 – 1982 as a section header, I think 1978 - 1982: Academic engagements is more in line with our manual of style. You also need to limit the content to very key information, it needs to be trimmed down a bit. There are unnecessary information in the article. Then lastly and probably the most important are your references. Some sections in the article do not even have a single reference. Many have just one reference with a lot of text and multiple paragraphs. You need to make it clear where you are getting those information from. Regards.HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:14, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @HandsomeBoy: thanks a lot for your response, and for agreeing to contribute to the draft, I really appreciate it. On changing "Teaching, 1978 – 1982 as a section header, to 1978 - 1982: Academic engagements" - the suggested change is very fine with me, I can update it accordingly. Regarding references and cutting things down, I also agree with you. At the moment, I am actually working on gathering more references, but this has been challenging tbh, but I will edit the page as advised. Lastly, please I would love to collaborate with you on this page. So, I really hope that time permits you to make changes. Thanks once again Planetearth285 (talk) 12:55, 3 March 2022 (UTC)
- @ Planetearth285, I would advise not editing the page per concerns on your talk page. If HandsomeBoy is willing to contribute I think it best to make suggestions and let that editor make changes. Otr500 (talk) 14:20, 5 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi @Otr500: ahh, I am getting different advises. I was told by a different editor that in the draft, I could edit it. However, in this case @HandsomeBoy: or Otr500, please make the changes as suggested by HandsomeBoy. Thank you Planetearth285 (talk) 16:43, 5 March 2022 (UTC)

User script to detect unreliable sources
I have (with the help of others) made a small user script to detect and highlight various links to unreliable sources and predatory journals. Some of you may already be familiar with it, given it is currently the 39th most imported script on Wikipedia. The idea is that it takes something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14. (
John Smith "[https://www.deprecated.com/article Article of things]" ''Deprecated.com''. Accessed 2020-02-14.
)
and turns it into something like
- John Smith "Article of things" Deprecated.com. Accessed 2020-02-14.
It will work on a variety of links, including those from {{cite web}}, {{cite journal}} and {{doi}}.
The script is mostly based on WP:RSPSOURCES, WP:NPPSG and WP:CITEWATCH and a good dose of common sense. I'm always expanding coverage and tweaking the script's logic, so general feedback and suggestions to expand coverage to other unreliable sources are always welcomed.
Do note that this is not a script to be mindlessly used, and several caveats apply. Details and instructions are available at User:Headbomb/unreliable. Questions, comments and requests can be made at User talk:Headbomb/unreliable.
This is a one time notice and can't be unsubscribed from. Delivered by: MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:02, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Several issues and goings-on
I want to talk more about this topic here, from January. It was denied publication. July 2015 Adamawa and Borno States attacks article moved to draftspace. And, and whatabout the Easter Imo attack? And explosion? Imo seems, hmmm...Bokoharamwatch (talk) 21:45, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- I am thinking if you can look for a way to group these articles rather than individual articles, it will be more encyclopaedia worthy. For example, we have had several attacks in South Eastern Nigeria this year, instead of creating articles for each of them, you can have something like 2022 Biafra agitation in Southeastern Nigeria, something along that line. People need to know what is happening in Nigeria.HandsomeBoy (talk) 00:27, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
Art + Feminism 2022
Dear all,
This is to inform you that I’d be having a project joining the Art + Feminism project, by creating and improving articles about Nigerian Women on Wikipedia B.Korlah (talk) 11:03, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- This is a good one B.Korlah, but I want to suggest that you start to thinking of ways that will limit the chances of participants creating articles that will be contested from a notability point of view. Something like what Nnadi plans to do in his hospital editaton. I know you have good intentions but it is what it is. If possible, if we can even encourage improvement of existing ones, rather than new articles, it will be great. HandsomeBoy (talk) 00:21, 18 May 2022 (UTC)
I understand and thank you for your feedback. I appreciate B.Korlah (talk) 06:51, 18 May 2022 (UTC)

Nice to see someone beat me on this topic. How do we take forward this topic? Bokoharamwatch (talk) 21:45, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- Bokoharamwatch Has an article been created already? Can't seem to find it. She does not meet the notability guidelines for people, but the incident does meet Wikipedia guideline. Then she can be a redirect to the murder article. Good to see you back here.HandsomeBoy (talk) 22:57, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Sani Abacha
No not that guy, but Suleiman Abacha (footballer). He exists at Galadima Football Club, like namesake both now late. Put in a request for those in the know. Bokoharamwatch (talk) 17:45, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- lol. I was wondering if that guy has reincarnated :). Don't mind me, just kidding but on a more serious note, WP:FOOTYN can be quite tense for uncapped African players. I see he was signed to Budapest_Honvéd_FC in 2020 1, but he is not listed in their squad list which makes it difficult to verify if he played for the senior team. The Hungarian elite league (Nemzeti Bajnokság I) is listed as a fully professional league, so if he has played for them, he will be worthy of a Wikipedia article. I searched for a reference that showed that he has been featured in the team but found none. Considering he was just 18 years when he signed the contract, it is very possible he was drafted to the reserve or junior team. There is also information that he recently cancelled his contract with the team 2. Finally, while the Nigerian elite league is regarded as fully professional on WP, Galadima Academy has only been part of the amateur divisions while Abacha was with them. The summary of what I am saying is that, just signing a contract with a professional team is not enough, you need to actually play for the team in a pro league to stand a chance of being notable.HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:49, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

I was wondering if active editors from this wikiproject could take a look at Egbo (food)? The article claims that it's a staple food and I'm inclined to believe the editor that wrote that, but the sourcing doesn't seem ideal to me. Maybe someone with better access to Nigerian sources and is more aware of the general context could help improve the article? Clovermoss (talk) 01:24, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
- Clovermoss Thank you for bringing this here. Luckily for Wikipedia, I know a lot of indigenous people from Ibadan. I will get direct information from them, then look for a source to substantiate their claims before giving you a reply. I had a quick look at the meaning of "Staple foods" through Google as it is a first for me. Regards.HandsomeBoy (talk) 10:47, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
- If "Staple Food" means a meal that is of cultural interest to an ethnic group, then I think it falls in that category. I am pretty sure similar corn meals exist in other parts of the world, but might differ in the manner of preparation. There are even packaged products in the area concerning it. I couldn't find reliable sources, but these sites provide some insight on the one by Yoruba people (i.e Egbo) 1, 2. Indigenous African meals is one of those areas that it can be difficult to find sources online. HandsomeBoy (talk) 11:04, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

Flag of the Republic of Benin (1967)
Hello. I believe that the article about the Flag of the Republic of Benin (1967) needs actual sources, and I am afraid, that the existance of the flag might have been made up. As of now, the only source given is a list of governors of the region. It lists a photo of the flag, with no further description, nor any source for where it comes from. Additionally, I personally couldn't find any actual information about the existence of the flag. The only mention online I could find is crwflags.com. This website is a blog, and and author there doesn't states any actual sources. What is more, Commons credits that blog, as the source of the flag image. All of this, together with the fact that the Republic of Benin existed only from around 7 hours, from its announcement to its fall to Nigerian army, and the fact, that design of the flag is basically just the flag Biafra, makes me worried that the flag did not actually existed, and had been made up by somebody online. This is why I'm writing here, asking for help in finding any proper source, mentioning the flag, or, deleting this article, in case no source can be found.
Sincerelly, Artemis Andromeda (talk) 13:54, 29 August 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you for the notification Artemis Andromeda. So I will answer you in two ways. Your concern is very valid. I also did a search and the best I could see was Vintage News, which does not only seem unreliable, but also does not go into detail on how they verified the flag was for Benin, and looked copied from Wikipedia. Despite this, if I were to use my discretion to decide if this is a hoax or not, I will likely say it is not. I have seen this kind of scenario play itself before and it is usually a case of lack of web resources being freely available on African topics rather than a fabrication. But the risk and the damage that can be done to Wikipedia reputation is too high to take such chances, as such I will perfectly support the said article is nominated for deletion so that more eyes can be on it. I will also share this to a group of scholarly Wikipedians to see if any of them have substantial evidence to back it up. HandsomeBoy (talk) 00:13, 30 August 2022 (UTC)
Ngwa language
Hi I’m a new page reviewer and I have some concerns about this article. A number of new articles on Ngwa-related topics appeared at once. Some are fine but I’m not sure about this one. I can’t find a single source online about a Ngwa language. Our article on Igbo language says Ngwa is a dialect of Igbo. The options are 1. Pass it as it is because it’s fine 2. Rename it to “Ngwa dialect” and pass it 3. Redirect to Igbo language 4. Something else. I’d appreciate views from members of this WikiProject on what’s best. Many thanks Mccapra (talk) 04:52, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, Ngwa is one of the igbo dialects spoken in Abịa State were other dialects are spoken too like the Ubakala and Nsirimo dialects,Nigeria. It is a dialect and NGWA DIALECT is better.
- Akwugo (talk) 03:34, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes, Ngwa is a dialect in Igbo Language. It is widely spoken by Abia State residents in Nigeria. Therefore, Ngwa is a dialect under the Igbo Language. Iwuala Lucy (talk) 05:31, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
NGWA is one of the varieties of Igbo language and a dialect under Igbo language. The same way as Anambra, Owerri and the rest of the dialects. General Igbo is the only acceptable and should be the only acceptable form of the Igbo language. This will enable people read and understand articles written with it clearly without difficulty. Thank you. Onyeike Izuchi (talk) 09:43, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks everyone page moved to Ngwa dialect. Mccapra (talk) 04:27, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Sources help
Does this project have a list of reliable/unreliable sources similar to WP:RSPSOURCES? I'm presently working on the World Digital Song Sales page and trying to locate non-Billboard-based secondary sources that mention or discuss Wizkid, Burna Boy, Mr Eazi and Tems achieving number-ones on the chart. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 17:37, 24 September 2022 (UTC)

'Yemi
Hiya I'm working on the article for Yemi Adamolekun and I've noticed some sources (including her employer) give her name as ‘Yemi Adamolekun, with an apostrophe at the beginning. Can someone advise what the best name for the page title is? Cheers! Mujinga (talk) 11:57, 25 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Mujinga: Thank you for answering the earlier question by Carlobunnie, it is greatly appreciated. Concerning your own query, from my little understanding of the Yoruba language, putting an apostrophe in front of "Yemi" does not make any sense but then it is her name, and she must have her reasons. I was also able to find independent sources that precedes the name with an apostrophe, so it is not a oneoff or typo. From my understanding on how Wikipedia works, I will say use the apostrophe in all occurrence of her name in her article but keep the title index without an apostrophe. I hope this makes sense and is helpful. Have a nice day. Regards.HandsomeBoy (talk) 19:23, 26 September 2022 (UTC)
- Yes her own twitter account uses the apostrophe so it must be intended. Great, I'll do as you suggest then and if any Yoruba speakers have an opinion please feel free to edit the article. Cheers for the answer! Mujinga (talk) 20:28, 26 September 2022 (UTC)

Mustapha Ado Muhammad
Hi! Everyone,
I am currently working on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Mustapha_Ado_Muhammad. While he's a popular business person in the North, I realise there are not enough sources on him looking at the review I got.
Is there anyway anyone can help with more sources on him? Ajatontiriajabale (talk) 10:32, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Ajatontiriajabale, I see it was deleted via an AFD discussion just four days ago. When an article goes through AFD, it is best you wait for several months before considering recreating it. Except you want to contest the AFD consensus (which I will not recommend). Let me also add that the notability threshold for businessmen is quite high since there is a high chance of COI. In summary, just continue to monitor sources about him. Four days is too short to recreate a previously deleted article. PS: I did not do any Google search on the subject so don't have a personal opinion yet. HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:04, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
- If he has a national honour, you should include that in the article. Most prominent businessmen should have one.HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:08, 22 November 2022 (UTC)
Review
I have been working on the Qdot article in the draft and I need a page reviewer to review it so that I can know where to improve. Ibjaja055 (talk) 07:20, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Ibjaja055. In the article, you did not specify the awarding body that issued the "best indigenous artiste" award. Just listing the category is not enough, we need to also evaluate the body that issued the award. Secondly, in the infobox image, I can see he is holding an MTV plaque, did he win MTV award?? I need to know these or/and have them reflected in the article before doing a sources assessment on the subject.HandsomeBoy (talk) 18:08, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
Dabo Aliyu
Can anyone from WP:NG find a reliable source which can be used to verify the death of Dabo Aliyu? The description given for the infobox image File:Portrait of Dabo Aliyu in uniform.jpg states the Aliyu died in 2020, but there's no content related to his death currently in the article. Unless his death can be verified in accordance with WP:BDP, the article is going to remain categorized as a BLP, which in turn means that a non-free image is not really going to be allowed to be used for primary identification purposes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:31, 15 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hello Marchjuly, thanks for stopping by. According to this source from PM News, he is infact truly dead. I will reflect it in the article immediately. I always admire the thoroughness of Wikipedians. HandsomeBoy (talk) 16:56, 15 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi editors, I'm one of the reviewers at AfC (Articles for Creation). Currently this article has been submitted, but I'm wondering whether the content could/should be merged into Arranged marriage? As this is the only WikiProject listed on that page, I'll take consensus here, and any editors who might agree are, of course, free to merge any content (with attribution - see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia) to that page. Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 18:23, 14 January 2023 (UTC)
- Mattdaviesfsic Personally, I disagree to a merge. I think this is a topic that in routinely covered in reliable sources and core to Northern Nigerian tradition. I will shed more light on why the article should remain standalone, but I'd love to know what Ammarpad and Anasskoko thinks first.HandsomeBoy (talk) 12:47, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- @HandsomeBoy, indeed this should be a standalone article. There are pretty even academic sources that cover Hausa marriage rituals in detail. – Ammarpad (talk) 13:47, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
Traditional Hausa marriage is topic on its own which I have gone through is, the article cover all the process of marriage in the Hausa land. I also disagreed for merging the article. It's should be on it owned.Inyor4mr (talk) 13:09, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks Inyor4mr and HandsomeBoy for your views against the merge. I'm happy to accept it as a standalone article, but - of course - feel free to edit it! Mattdaviesfsic (talk) 13:42, 17 January 2023 (UTC)
Usman Faruk
Would some member of this WikiProject mind checking to see whether either this or this would be considered reliable sources for verifying Usman Faruk is deceased? The article is still classified as a WP:BLP, but the file description for the image being used in the main infobox states that Faruk is dead, and the infobox states he died in December 2020. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:47, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- Done. Sure he is dead. The references are correct.HandsomeBoy (talk) 22:00, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for looking into this HandsomeBoy. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:55, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
ENTRY ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF BIAFRA
The entry that "The group was founded in 2012 by Nnamdi Kanu" is not correct. This organisation was founded by Nnamdi Kanu and Uche Mefor. The BBC report on 9th of January, 2023, captured the true and authentic position on paragraph 15: "Formed in 2012 by two UK-based Igbos, Nnamdi Kanu and Uche Mefor, as a peaceful movement...."( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-64110852?at_medium=RSS&at_campaign=KARANGA).Could you please correct the Wikipedia report?-----UM. Mefonna (talk) 19:20, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- Mefonna I agree with you in some way, but also disagree in some other way. And I will use an example to illustrate this. If you are asked, who is the founder of Facebook, most people will consider "Mark Zukerberg" as the most correct answer even though there were other co-founders. Based on multiple sources I have seen over the years, Nnamdi Kanu was the most significant of the founders of IPOB (I didn't even know there were others until today) so I can understand why Uche Mefor might have been overlooked in the Wikipedia article. Nevertheless, I agree with you that it should be mentioned in the article and I will do that rightaway. Wikipedia should document history exactly how it is. Lastly, let me mention that the Wikipedia article intelligently uses the term "leader", rather than "founder". There is a clear distinction between both. Uche Mafor might have been a co-founder, but is he still a leader of IPOB? I will only include his name in the infobox as a co-founder till we have sources that clearly explain his subsequent role in the organization. Thanks for bringing this up. Regards.HandsomeBoy (talk) 13:19, 31 January 2023 (UTC)
