Kylie unreleased tracks

as part of this wikipedia project I have tried to do a basic edit on this article and it had turned into an editing war. Can somebody please advise if I have done something incorrect in regards to this thanks Mikey01 08:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Your edit to the article stating that all these tracks have been released in some form was incorrect (hence the name), but I do agree with your view that the article is full of original research. All songs and commentary listed needs to be backed up by a citation from a reliable source such as ASCAP, etc. -- Underneath-it-All 20:32, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm going to try to go through the article over the next week or so and clean it up a bit, adding sources, etc. Your help would be greatly appreciated. :) -- Underneath-it-All 20:37, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Shame Shame

Wat kind of wikiproject is this. After Kylie Minogue article, the most important article is Cant Get You Out Of My Head...and its not even GA...its was such a successful song..i think her most successful...and that article is decaying...shame!

And "Love At First Sight" is not even covered by this project it seems..or maybe it was "In your Eyes"...any one of them..SHAME! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.239.147.120 (talk) 09:57, 1 May 2008 (UTC) HAHA..guess wat...both are not covered under the project! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.239.147.120 (talk) 10:00, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Kylie Minogue

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Inheritance of importance rating

Is there a way you could modify your talk page banner so that the importance of Kylie Minogue albums isn't given the same importance for WikiProject Albums as for this WikiProject? While all of her albums may be of high importance to this project, they are certainly not highly important albums in any other sense.

This could be fixed either by adding an extra parameter to the template {{WPKylie}}, or by taking out the inheritance altogether and adding the {{album |class= |importance= }} to the album talk pages. — Twas Now ( talkcontribse-mail ) 02:36, 16 September 2008 (UTC)

Milestone Announcements

Announcements
  • All WikiProjects are invited to have their "milestone-reached" announcements automatically placed onto Wikipedia's announcements page.
  • Milestones could include the number of FAs, GAs or articles covered by the project.
  • No work need be done by the project themselves; they just need to provide some details when they sign up. A bot will do all of the hard work.

I thought this WikiProject might be interested. Ping me with any specific queries or leave them on the page linked to above. Thanks! - Jarry1250 (t, c) 21:59, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:48, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Duplicated articles?

Are the following articles duplicates?

  1. Kylie's Remix Hits Volume 1 released in March 1989.
  2. Kylie's Remixes Volume 1 released in March 1989.

Request for comment on Biographies of living people

Hello Wikiproject! Currently there is a discussion which will decide whether wikipedia will delete 49,000 articles about a living person without references, here:

Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Biographies of living people

Since biographies of living people covers so many topics, many wikiproject topics will be effected.

The two opposing positions which have the most support is:

  1. supports the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, User:Jehochman
  2. opposes the deletion of unreferenced articles about a living person, except in limited circumstances, User:Collect

Comments are welcome. Keep in mind that by default, editor's comments are hidden. Simply press edit next to the section to add your comment.

Please keep in mind that at this point, it seems that editors support deleting unreferenced BLP articles if they are not sourced, so your project may want to source these articles as soon as possible. See the next, message, which may help.

Kylie Minogue articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Kylie Minogue articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

Ok, We need to decide something. Should we put the single navbox only on the singles as the only navbox and the Kylie Minogue one on the other pages? A lot of articles do this, and I think that it's time we decide it for our articles. I Help, When I Can.[12] 04:50, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Yes. Exactly. We need to put Singles on the song/singles pages only and the Kylie Minogue one on the album/compilation pages. Novice7 | Talk 05:20, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

New Task!

Ok guys. I need someones help to back up the sources in the articles covering the Aphrodite era. Any takers? I Help, When I Can.[12] 15:12, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Back up? --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 15:19, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Using WebCite to back up sources. I do this nowadays so that 5 years from now, when the charts change, the sites get makeovers, and they delete old articles, we still have the info and it cannot be challenged. I Help, When I Can.[12] 15:37, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Oh, you meant format them! OK sure! I'll get around to it sometime today. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 15:38, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Format...? Are we on the same page? LOL. I Help, When I Can.[12] 15:48, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes XD You want me to put them into cite web format. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 15:49, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
Ok, yes. That and and back it up on web cite. We should divide it on who is doing which article so that we don't step on each other's toes. I Help, When I Can.[12] 15:51, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

(→) Okay guys. So, what can I do for ya? Which page(s)? Novice7 | Talk 16:00, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

 Done --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 17:34, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
You guys didn't back them up! That was the whole purpose of doing this...LOL. I Help, When I Can.[12] 19:41, 21 January 2011 (UTC)
I did.... I think. They sent me 4 emails telling me that they were cached, sooo... --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 21:30, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

(→)Ok, why didn't you add it to the site. The {{cite web}}, {{cite news}}, templates have fields to place those url's in... Check out the codes so that you can see it. I Help, When I Can.[12] 23:04, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

EPs

Almost all of Kylie's EPs are most definitely sub-quality and are not notable. Most recent one that fails standards - A Kylie Christmas. Little more than a track listing. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 04:07, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

BE BOLD AND FIX IT!!!, LOL. I Help, When I Can.[12] 04:45, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
XD Oh yeah, like I can be able to fix, what is it? Around 8 EPs? --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 12:53, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Around five. Finding information for them can be difficult. We can do them slowly. Novice7 | Talk 12:56, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I too don't feel like delving into those articles right now to try to find something to give it more than a lead, infobox, and track listing. Not even a release history for most of them. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 13:21, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

So called "Promo Singles"

After doing some Kylie work, I have realized what Cprice1000 was talking about. The songs listed as promo singles that are by Kylie are wrongly listed. I haven't gone through all of them yet, but I have realized that a good portion of them were released commercially, meaning they qualify as being full fledged singles. Music videos have nothing to do with it. I will start making the required changes; speak now, or forever hold your peace. I Help, When I Can. [12] 04:50, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Nevermind. In the end, "I Guess I Like It Like That" and "Secret (Take You Home)" were the only ones who qualified. I Help, When I Can. [12] 05:02, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Since I have failed to receive a reply on this, I have taken it here.

Secret should be considered an official single from Body Language, per definition of a promo single. I have already changed it on the article as well as fixed the chrono for "Slow" and "Red Blooded Woman" but I was wondering if everyone approved. I had left a note on the 'Secret' page for over a month and there was no opposition. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 22:45, 18 January 2011 (UTC)

Umm... I love Kylie... but this article doesn't even meet WP:NSONGS as is. I think that that is the bigger issue as of now. You should focus on writing the article and verifying it, then we can deal with that issue. I Help, When I Can.[12] 23:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)
I was sure someone would say that. I'm already working on it! --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 00:35, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

OK, all I need now really, is a source for the Taiwan charts. Anyone? --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 01:53, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I have nothing, but you can dilly dally in WP:CHARTS to see if there is anything useful. I Help, When I Can.[12] 01:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
First place I looked, nothing :( I think maybe the charts weren't archived. Not even Australia archives their charts, cept for the main chart. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 02:03, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
They archive their charts, but you will have to get them for a price (same as Billboard Magazine. See if there are any convenient sources. Also, I suggest you find better sources. Sources only dealing with the album will be written off when it comes to establishing notability. I Help, When I Can.[12] 02:20, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
Hmmm.. I say a promo single (or even a song) till we find a reliable source for the chart. Novice7 | Talk 03:41, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
I agree. The actual article is the important thing right now. I Help, When I Can.[12] 04:34, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Does anyone speak Chinese? --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 21:59, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Australia archives all its charts plus the full top 100 singles here. I must warn you, it is quite time consuming to navigate!!! -- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 01:09, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Wow! This is great news! --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 03:20, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Kylie Minogue Main Page

I think the main page needs some reconstructing. For one, I noticed the other day that the information about her cancer is in it's own section. I don't think this is necessary, when there is a "life and career" section. I think that it can be easily put in there. nding·start 03:49, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

I agree, but the version of the article with that as a separate section is the one that got FA, so, I'm unsure. I Help, When I Can. [12] 05:39, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
I don't think that would matter that much. The best bet would be merging them. It just makes much more sense, as I stated before. nding·start 04:08, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Chronology

Me and Cprice1000 also had another conversation and now I see the light on that issue too. From now on (if no one objects, of course) there will no longer be two strands of single chronology for Kylie. And the one strand will be arranged by the earliest release date, no other factors. Objections? I Help, When I Can. [12] 05:11, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Support from me. No objection :) Novice7 | Talk 05:15, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Support I don't see why there should be, unless it completely ruins the chronology if there isn't two strands. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 02:47, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Uncovered a Kylie Scam

While editing the singles discography page, I encountered something very interesting. It says that Kylie got (Insert so n so certification here) from the ARIA in (any year from 1987-1997). There's only one problem. The ARIA didn't give out certification awards until 1997, which is the reason why I couldn't find certificate records for Kylie, but I didn't put two and two together until now. How in the hell could she win an award that didn't even exist? Just because you get the sales to qualify for certification does not mean you are certified. I will soon take out the references to this. Speak if you have an explanation. I Help, When I Can. [12] 20:48, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

There is a book covering the certifications in Australia, right? That book might have information on this. Novice7 | Talk 03:54, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
I remember reading (I wish I remember where) that it was created in 1997, and then when I went through the article, all the official references started at 1997-; the other ones were fan sites. I'm not even sure if we have to dive into this issue any further. I Help, When I Can. [12] 04:13, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
ARIA does have older certifications, but doesnot cover on their online website. David Kent's book covers them in the charts. — Legolas (talk2me) 09:39, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
OK. Book research... -_-. I Help, When I Can. [12] 18:27, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Issue with "Kids"

Hello everyone. While editing the discography page, I encountered another "error turned knowledge" incident. To sum it up, it's like the Nicki Minaj Pink Friday "Check It Out" issue (look here if you need to be refreshed). Basically, "Kids" was released on Robbie's album. It did good, so it was put on her album. "Kids" was never actually released as a single from Light Years. I looked at a whole bunch of entries "Kids" made into reputable databases including the BPI Certificate Search (Search Kids, first result). They never list Parlophone (her label). Therefore, "Kids" should be delisted as a single from Light Years everywhere, and included with her featured tracks. Objections and discussion? I Help, When I Can. [12] 23:42, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. "Kids" is a Robbie Williams single, released by his label which features Kylie Minogue. Regardless of it appearing on her album only William's label promoted it and thus it is primarily his single. SIngles are often added to their featured artist' albums to boost sales. In Minogue's discog, it should appear under Singles 'As a featured artist'-- Lil_niquℇ 1 [talk] 01:04, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Duh. I thought that was the case untill I actually checked the articles. "Kids" should only be in the chronology, since it is a Minogue singles as well, but else where in templates, move it to the featured artist sections. — Legolas (talk2me) 09:37, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes. Absolutely right :) Novice7 | Talk 09:51, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

"Chiggy Wiggy" issues.

Ok, I need a expert on the Indian Singles Chart. The article says that it was a promo single, yet it topped the Indian Singles Chart.

  1. Need a citation of it reaching the top of the chart.
  2. Need someone to confirm if promo singles can chart or not.

Need all this info for the discography article. I Help, When I Can. [12] 02:32, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

As far as I know, there are no official singles chart in India (I come from India). And I'm pretty sure the single cover is fanmade. The article has just one reliable source. I think it should be merged with the main soundtrack article. Novice7 | Talk 03:51, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Sounds good to me. I Help, When I Can. [12] 04:08, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
Shall we merge? Novice7 | Talk 05:05, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I merged. But, there's nothing much to add. Please check the soundtrack article out. Novice7 | Talk 04:32, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Lack of notability and stubs

The Kylie articles are awful compared to some of her competitors. Now, I don't mean to compete with the Madonna articles or even Britney's, but they can all be vastly improved. Of course, Kylie's page is perfect, but most of her songs and albums are really bad. I'll start work on them today, but I will need much more help to get them to what Kylie deserves. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 20:07, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

My mission right now are the articles of top importance (discogs, lists of tours, etc.). I understand what you mean, and thats what I am trying to do. That's why I tried to revived the project, and thanks to the help of you, Unique, Novice, and many others, it is succeeding. I Help, When I Can. [12] 23:53, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes. I mean Fever. It is definitely one of the most important articles, being her most successful album, yet, it is rather small. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 00:21, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Expanded Can't Get You Out of My Head. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 00:13, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

And on that note, I want to try and get it to GA. I really think Kylie's most successful song deserves GA status. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 00:19, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

No Hope List

On Cprice's topic (above), that made me think of something. In WPKylie, we need to officially divide the articles that can be improved, and the ones that completely fail WP:N & WP:V. For the ones that fail, I think that we should find out if the limited info can be included elsewhere, or if it is bogus and needs to go straight to WP:AfD. Opinions? I Help, When I Can. [12] 00:03, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Agreed. I don't know how some of these have been here so long. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 00:18, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Can everyone who helps out with the Wikiproject (and anyone else who may be lurking here) please leave your comments, and be sure to vote on the move proposal regarding the Les Folies Tour. Thanks so much! We really need to come to an agreement. nding·start 16:25, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Replacing charts on discography

I think that I should replace the US Dance chart in place of the Norwegian chart in the discography, and the Billboard Hot 100 in additional notes. Why? Kylie has a dance chart entry for 90% of her catalog, while she has 9 songs that charted there, in total. Objections? I Help, When I Can. [12] 00:20, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

I did a mock up of what it would look like here. Well? I Help, When I Can. [12] 02:40, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

I've seen this in many other artist discographies where they were not very successful in the US, but I might prefer that US dance be replaced with US. She has had several, but no more than that, chart entries on the Hot 100 (I also mean including entries on the Bubbling Under as 102, etc.) and it is really a lot more important to her career than a US dance chart entry, which makes up almost no sales at all. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 02:50, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Well, it is good, but the notes could be moved down to a separate section above References (maybe titled "Notes"). What do you guys say? Also, I was asked to remove the notes on my list, when it was going through a FL process. Novice7 | Talk 06:09, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Even though she has had songs chart on the US Dance, I don't think it's necessarily needed. I think Cprice has a good idea, but I don't know. I think it's fine the way it is right now. nding·start 12:11, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
Now that I've come to think of it, yeah, Dance chart is not needed. I say we go with Cprice on that. Novice7 | Talk 13:07, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
I don't think I posted this before. WP:USCHART; component charts have been included in some of the most famed featured discographies, including Mariah Carey, Madonna, MIA, Taylor Swift and many more. I Help, When I Can. [12] 23:59, 9 February 2011 (UTC)
But, I thought a component chart should not be included without a main chart. In that case, we need both US and US Dance? Novice7 | Talk 04:12, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
... ... ... I guess. If I find the cites for all of the other charts, I will drop this issue, but if I don't I will switch out and replace with the US charts. I Help, When I Can. [12] 20:49, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

I think it's perfectly fine the way it is. If the FL crew have a problem with not having the US charts, we can replace one of them with it. nding·start 16:37, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Light Years re-issue

Who took the Light Years re-issue artwork down? I Help, When I Can. [12] 04:54, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

I did. I felt it might fail NFCC#8. I can add it back, if you feel it doesn't. Novice7 | Talk 10:17, 11 February 2011 (UTC)
Ok, I didn't see the reasoning. Now I do. Just wondering... :) I Help, When I Can. [12] 20:59, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Comment

Is this where you can ask the Editors of Wikipedia questions? If not, Sorry...could someone please redirect me?

I am trying to add a LINK to a Kylie Minogue Newsfeed page at Http://www.Dance-Music-Space.com/KylieMinogueNews.html

This page is directly relevant to the contents of the Kylie Minogue page here on Wikipedia...It updates hourly with fresh Kylie "News"

Can someone advise how I can get it added here.

Thank you

It's OK, but I Guess I Like It Like That is really a promo single: source here. --AmyMirka (talk) 01:30, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

No, because it appears that it was released for sale, therefore being a full single release. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 03:41, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

If the print source is reliable and has solid information, then it's okay with me. Novice7 (talk) 05:42, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

Can't be a promo. It was released to the public as a CD single for sale. WP:PROMOSINGLE and promotional single. --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 17:54, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
All of the sources (including mixKylie and my very reliable discog book) either call it a promo or a B-side. One thing that cannot be debated is that it does not meet the notability guideline. I Help, When I Can. [12] 19:11, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Ciara's company also called Go Girl a promo and GaGa said TFM was a studio album, but we know that Go Girl was the lead single and TFM an EP. Just sayin', you just need to think about what a promo single is. :P --ĈÞЯİŒ 1ооо 23:12, 20 February 2011 (UTC)
Yes their companies did say that, but the neither the primary source nor the secondary sources acknowledge "I Guess I Like It Like That" as a single. I Help, When I Can. [12] 00:57, 17 March 2011 (UTC)

This one has allmusic as a source. I'm sorry, but I don't know why do we delete articles instead of writing them. I mean, all these albums exist, and they are released, why do we have to delete articles about them? There are articles about non-single songs (Peacock (song), Speechless (Lady Gaga song)), but articles about released existing albums have to be deleted. I'm sorry, I don't understand that.

Greatest Hits 1987-1999

We can add them to the articles. --AmyMirka (talk) 01:55, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

The notability guideline for music releases is basically it has to have charted on a major country chart, has to have received a lot of buzz, and/or it has to have been covered substantially over the years. This album does not meet the requirements. Contrary to popular belief, just because it exists, doesn't mean it gets an article on Wikipedia. I Help, When I Can. [12] 02:17, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Comment on the WikiProject X proposal

Hello there! As you may already know, most WikiProjects here on Wikipedia struggle to stay active after they've been founded. I believe there is a lot of potential for WikiProjects to facilitate collaboration across subject areas, so I have submitted a grant proposal with the Wikimedia Foundation for the "WikiProject X" project. WikiProject X will study what makes WikiProjects succeed in retaining editors and then design a prototype WikiProject system that will recruit contributors to WikiProjects and help them run effectively. Please review the proposal here and leave feedback. If you have any questions, you can ask on the proposal page or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you for your time! (Also, sorry about the posting mistake earlier. If someone already moved my message to the talk page, feel free to remove this posting.) Harej (talk) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject X is live!

Hello everyone!

You may have received a message from me earlier asking you to comment on my WikiProject X proposal. The good news is that WikiProject X is now live! In our first phase, we are focusing on research. At this time, we are looking for people to share their experiences with WikiProjects: good, bad, or neutral. We are also looking for WikiProjects that may be interested in trying out new tools and layouts that will make participating easier and projects easier to maintain. If you or your WikiProject are interested, check us out! Note that this is an opt-in program; no WikiProject will be required to change anything against its wishes. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you!

Note: To receive additional notifications about WikiProject X on this talk page, please add this page to Wikipedia:WikiProject X/Newsletter. Otherwise, this will be the last notification sent about WikiProject X.

WikiConfererence Australia 2015 - Save the date 3-5 October 2015

Our first Australian conference for Wikipedians/Wikimedians will be held 3-5 October 2015. Organised by Wikimedia Australia, there will be a 2-day conference (Saturday 3 October and Sunday 4 October) with an optional 3rd day (Monday 5 October) for specialist topics (unconference discussions, training sessions, etc). The venue is the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane. So put those dates in your diary! Note: Monday is a public holiday is some states but not others. Read about it here: WikiConference Australia 2015

As part of that page, there are now sections for you to:

  • indicate your interest in possibly attending the conference (this is not a binding commitment, of course)
  • add suggestions for topics to include in the conference: what you would like to hear/discuss (again, there is no commit to you presenting/organising that topic, although it’s great if you are willing to do so), or indicate your enthusiasm for any existing topic on the list by adding a note of support underneath it

It would really help our planning if you could let us know about possible attendance and the kind of topics that would make you want to come. If you don’t want to express your views on-wiki, please email me at kerry.raymond@wikimedia.org.au or committee@wikimedia.org.au

We are hoping to have travel subsidies available to assist active Australasian Wikipedians to attend the conference, although we are not currently in a position to provide details, but be assured we are doing everything we can to make it possible for active Australian Wikipedians to come to the conference. Kerry (talk) 00:19, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

Folks, just letting you know we will not be proceeding with Wikiconference Australia 2015 originally proposed for 3-5 October 2015. Thanks to those of you who expressed your support. You are free to attend the football finals instead :-) Kerry (talk) 08:10, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject collaboration notice from the Portals WikiProject

The reason I am contacting you is because there are one or more portals that fall under this subject, and the Portals WikiProject is currently undertaking a major drive to automate portals that may affect them.

Portals are being redesigned.

The new design features are being applied to existing portals.

At present, we are gearing up for a maintenance pass of portals in which the introduction section will be upgraded to no longer need a subpage. In place of static copied and pasted excerpts will be self-updating excerpts displayed through selective transclusion, using the template {{Transclude lead excerpt}}.

The discussion about this can be found here.

Maintainers of specific portals are encouraged to sign up as project members here, noting the portals they maintain, so that those portals are skipped by the maintenance pass. Currently, we are interested in upgrading neglected and abandoned portals. There will be opportunity for maintained portals to opt-in later, or the portal maintainers can handle upgrading (the portals they maintain) personally at any time.

Background

On April 8th, 2018, an RfC ("Request for comment") proposal was made to eliminate all portals and the portal namespace. On April 17th, the Portals WikiProject was rebooted to handle the revitalization of the portal system. On May 12th, the RfC was closed with the result to keep portals, by a margin of about 2 to 1 in favor of keeping portals.

There's an article in the current edition of the Signpost interviewing project members about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

Since the reboot, the Portals WikiProject has been busy building tools and components to upgrade portals.

So far, 84 editors have joined.

If you would like to keep abreast of what is happening with portals, see the newsletter archive.

If you have any questions about what is happening with portals or the Portals WikiProject, please post them on the WikiProject's talk page.

Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   07:44, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

You are invited to participate in Wiki Loves Pride!

  • What? Wiki Loves Pride, a campaign to document and photograph LGBT culture and history, including pride events
  • When? June 2015
  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

Or, view or update the current list of Tasks. This campaign is supported by the Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group, an officially recognized affiliate of the Wikimedia Foundation. Visit the group's page at Meta-Wiki for more information, or follow Wikimedia LGBT+ on Facebook. Remember, Wiki Loves Pride is about creating and improving LGBT-related content at Wikimedia projects, and content should have a neutral point of view. One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!

A new newsletter directory is out!

A new Newsletter directory has been created to replace the old, out-of-date one. If your WikiProject and its taskforces have newsletters (even inactive ones), or if you know of a missing newsletter (including from sister projects like WikiSpecies), please include it in the directory! The template can be a bit tricky, so if you need help, just post the newsletter on the template's talk page and someone will add it for you.

Are any editors interested in nominating Kylie and Garibay (EP) for Good article status? The article has just received a copy edit from the Guild of Copy Editors, and the main author has not contributed since January. Perhaps a project member is willing to take the plunge and just address any concerns raised during the review? ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:27, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Request for information on WP1.0 web tool

Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.

We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Publishing sales chart for 'Magic'

Hello, I am new to wikipedia so please excuse me if I don't use this correctly. I would like to suggest adding to the Charts section of the page on Kylie Minogue's single "Magic" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_(Kylie_Minogue_song)) a column on the Sales Chart. My edit was removed with this explanation: The Sales Chart is a component Chart of the Singles one. Since it already charted there, there's no need to include it. I believe that in the era of streaming, it is significant to show that Kylie's song did chart well in the sales chart (no. 5), an information which cannot be known from her low overall UK singles chart (no. 75 top position). Thank you and have a nice day, Lom — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lomlom78 (talkcontribs) 08:54, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the display=none parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.

Message sent by User:Addbot to all active wiki projects per request, Comments on the message and bot are welcome here.

Thanks. — Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 09:20, 15 March, 2009 (UTC)
