Reference Errors on 9 January

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:28, 10 January 2015 (UTC)

Screenshots

Talk about going crazy!! I got yelled at by a few admins for uploading what they consider high resolution screenshots, they said if the image is to remain on the article it can't be too high resolution because somehow that crosses a line between fair use and not fair use.

LOL, we are talking like 640 horizontal resolution here, and they still yelled at me. I uploaded some 498 resolution stuff earlier and it stayed. So maybe that is the threshold. This is funny because the article on fair use itself on wikipedia doesn't have an exact resolution.

I uploaded some screenshots on the fallout 1 and 2 pages too and so far they are intact. 7:07 PM, 1/12/2015 GoethicTheurgy (talk) 00:07, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Project Stealth, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Stealth. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

PvZ Modern Warfare

Why did you delete the "gameplay" link I added into Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare? That video was a great example of how the game actually looks in video form... it is of value to people who don't just want to read about the game or look at the same old photos. That video was not stolen, and I had full permission from the creator of the video to use it in the Wikipedia. Was there some kind of violation that occurred... or is it ok for us to just go and delete other peoples contributions to the Wikipedia? MAXXHEW (talk) 02:37, 12 February 2015 (UTC)MAXXHEW

Hi @MAXXHEW:,
If you would read the guidelines next time before editing, that'll give you all the answers. If you would also read your own talk page, an automated message by a bot explains why having a link like that is inappropriate. Thanks. --Soetermans. T / C 15:32, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

Thank You Nikolas — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.12.88.99 (talk) 18:09, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Nikolas (@62.12.88.99:),
There is, it's called WP:ELNO or WP:LINKSPAM. You've been adding a direct link to a website that isn't considered notable by Wikipedia's standards. That makes it unnecessary promotion of that website, because Wikipedia has a lot of readers. --Soetermans. T / C 07:32, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Open world

The description of open world as something with no loading screens and invisible walls is completely wrong. One game world may be open with both of theme if the player can reach the whole content at a certain moment of the character development /usually so called end game content/ and if the different features of the game are related. For example if you separate PvP and PvE or trading and crafting in one game it cannot be described as open world. So at this article you shall take care not only for restrictions imposed by textures and polygons, but also for restrictions imposed by the game mechanics. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ikcen (talkcontribs) 16:41, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Ikcen:,
Have you read the guidelines? If you want to add new information you'll have to back that up with sources. If you want to take something away that *isn't* sourced, that's more okay. I reverted your edits because you added new stuff without backing it up. --Soetermans. T / C 16:45, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

For a game to be considered as "Open world" it must contain one or more of these key features: Exploration, side quests and/or open areas. Examples are: Minecraft and Legend of Zelda. - What is the source for that?

If you are trying to act as editor of this article, make it at responsible way please. Not to mention it is obvious that the article is written by someone who lives in NA. There is zero words for Lineage 2, the most popular MMO game with open world in Russia and EU or Gothic 2, the milestone for RPGs with open world in Germany. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ikcen (talkcontribs) 17:13, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

See that http://black-desert.com/forums/index.php/Thread/3737-Any-Hope/ It becomes obvious that wiki is wrong in this case, and I'm sorry to tell that, but seems it is wrong by your fault. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ikcen (talkcontribs) 17:17, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Ikcen:, I'm not discussing what open world is, I'm saying you need to back up what you want to add to it. So Wikipedia isn't "wrong", it is up to you to make it better. Please read the guidelines first, because it seems to me you do not fully grasp how Wikipedia works.

Destiny revert

How bout you SHUT THE HELL UP?! Look it up on the web. Destiny is considered an open world game by many. And not an open world game by many. Stop coming up with bullshit. Revert my edit again and I'll report you for starting an edit war.ECW28 (talk) 19:53, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

No, I won't shut up. It's up to you to show Destiny is considered an open world video game. I do no come up with any bullshit, you fail to follow Wikipedia's rules on editing. I will revert you and please do report me. --Soetermans. T / C 22:23, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

CS:CZ revert

I reverted your removal of the external link, per the really obvious disclaimer right underneath the heading in WP:ELNO excepting official pages. I'm still considering reverting your change to the abbreviations per the discussion at WT:VG/MOS. --Izno (talk) 17:57, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Condition Zero is the only Counter-Strike game that directly links to Steam's page. Other Valve games do not link there either, and I assumed it was added by mistake. If you can find the sources, go right ahead. --Soetermans. T / C 08:53, 26 March 2015 (UTC)

Key words

Hey, I'm sorry about last week. I've just been so frustrated lately. But I've got a question for you: When I said guidelines, I meant like specific things stating a game is open world. Like are there any key words or comparisons that should be noted in articles? Also, if an article says a game is semi-open world or pseudo-open world, would that still count? Thanks, and again, I'm sorry.ECW28 (talk) 07:25, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi @ECW28:,
Thanks for your message, I appreciate it. I've been there, Wikipedia can be really frustrating sometimes. Apology accepted.
Now, about open world stuff: Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, that anyone can edit. But there are certain rules, which explained at the guidelines. For instance, if you want to add a releasedate for a game, you'll have to back that up with a source. If you want to explain or expand on the concept of open world games, go right ahead! If you can find a source, a reliable one, you can certainly add it. Maybe you'd like to check out the video game guidelines too.
You can find a lot of sources online. On GameSpot you can search for those words. Eurogamer has an article online "Born Free: the History of the Openworld Game". On [gamestudies.org gamestudies.org] I found these two essays: "Virtual Worlds Don't Exist: Questioning the Dichotomous Approach in MMO Studies" and "Unlocking the Gameworld: The Rewards of Space and Time in Videogames", maybe you can find something there? If you need any more help, feel free to ask. --Soetermans. T / C 08:54, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
something interesting to note: I also edit Giant Bomb and I tried added both Origins and II. They denied II, but Approved Origins. I've been trying to make it more like the list we have. Would Origins be considered open world?ECW28 (talk) 19:05, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

Reply to "About your edits..."

Hello Soetermans,

I just saw your message over on my talk page and have to admit that I am technically new to Wilipedia in terms of guidlines and special functions. I really appreciate your feedback and want to get deeper into the guidelines, especially into the video game ones. Originally, my main goal was to add and repair information important to me but now, I realized how specialized things like "No caps in Genre section" are and will try to focus on those and the others more when editing my articles.

Thanks again,

Lordtobi () 23:36, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi Lordtobi (talk · contribs),
Thanks for your message, I appreciate it. Oftentimes new editors can be a little bit too enthustiastic, I can relate! Wikipedia might come off as this huge, complex place, but once you've got the basics you'll do fine. The WikiProject video games is open for anyone to join, where you can guidelines on editing video game articles, join or start discussions or find what are reliable sources.
One more point of advice: if someone leaves you a message at your talk page, they'll usually check sometime later. You can also notify someone, like I did, by using {{user|username}} or by using {{ping|username}}. At talk pages, users can put a colon (you know, :), so each new paragraphs moves a bit to the right, making it easier to read long discussions.
Like.
So.
Easy,
right?
If you need any help or advice, feel free to ask me. Thanks, and happy editing! --Soetermans. T / C 09:15, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

Bloodborne and Lovecraft

Sources for the game being based on Lovecraft Lovecraft themes are extremely overt and blatantly obvious once playing the game, even multiple creatures that are direct references to Cthulhu, Yog-Sothoth, and Lovecraft's style http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2015-04-10-how-bloodborne-honours-the-legacy-of-h-p-lovecraft http://kotaku.com/https-www-youtube-com-watch-v-vomax-lkfiw-feature-you-1697067199 http://www.twinfinite.net/2015/04/09/heres-how-bloodborne-captures-lovecraftian-horror-perfectly/

Hi @68.108.73.24:,
Thanks for your message. I noticed you've added sources now, that's great! That's the thing about Wikipedia, we have to back up the claims that are made in articles, that's why I reverted it before. Thanks for your edits. Have you considered making an account? You seem to like Wikipedia and video games, we can definitely use another helpful editor like you. --Soetermans. Hi @DoctorForHire:,
Categories are based upon the content in the article, so you'll have to add information about the Lovecraftian origins of Bloodborne, maybe in the development or reception section? --Soetermans. T / C 18:35, 12 April 2015 (UTC)

Keeping Wikipedia Expanding Not Shrinking

Delete canvassing bullshit. Zeke Essiestudy (talk) 04:55, 17 April 2015 (UTC)

Hello User:Soetermans sorry for disturbing you. The reason I am writing you is we all love Wikipedia and we want it expanding. However there is a discussion going on to delete a notable game article because of biased opinions. I saw that you edited this article: A_Fistful_of_Gun and let it stay for further expansion, update and keep growing Wikipedia. But I am also totally agree with you to let articles stay for improvements and expand Wikipedia. So I believe you are a neutral, professional, objective and who believes in expanding Wikipedia not shrinking it type of person. So I would like you to check out this discussion Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/MonsterMMORPG_(2nd_nomination) and make your comment based on references it has. Do note that you're going about it the wrong way. Instead of just adding it to categories, you should add it to the article body and in the infobox, with references and then in the categories. Fallout 4 redirects to Fallout (series)#Fallout 4, maybe if we get any substantial info we can undo that redirect. --Soetermans. T / C 06:17, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Marvel Contest of Champions

Hello

I've read the WPGUIDE you mentionned for Marvel Contest of Champions. Undoubtitably, the old page was too much detailled. There is no debat about it and your new redaction is good. Except on one point with this characters list. I've got a sociological approch. Wikipedia is also a reflect of our world at a precise moment. What is interesting in this list of characters is what Marvel deploy on several medias : comics, movies, tv show, animation and then video games. All is connected and this list of characters is linked to other pages form Marvel. With those link, it's just a reflect of the global approch of Marvel. Their universe is multiverse. As a matter of fact, this game is going to be a comics and an old comics like that exists in the 80's. So the list of characters is just a proof. This is not a guide for player. New characters is also a way to discover new characters in Marvel Universe. Also, this is a detail very appreciated by players. At last, this is just a list of characters of comics. This is not a list with power, abilities, special stuffs, synergies, bonus and co. And this is not a classic video game. If this were Street Fighter, I understand that the list of characters is not useful except the main one. But here, this is a little bit more as I said. It's a galaxy, it's a connection. That's why I think your good work of re-writing this page should be finished with this list.

Best regards

PS : and guidelines are guides. There are principes and there are exception sometimes ;)

Hello!

I work for my college's "nerd news" newspaper and I'm doing a feature article on the editors and authors of wikipedia articles. I see in your contribs that you have done a lot of work on a lot of different games and I was wondering if you would be willing to answer a couple questions about what you do, how you go about it and why you do it. MGSV edit war

Personally, I wouldn't bother making threats or offering one last chance. It's clear that the IP editor in question won't accept any edits except for their own preferred version (I'm glad you see eye-to-eye with me on the idea that they're trying to censor criticism). I've tried to get the page protected twice in the past 24 hours, but the admins kerp suggesting dispute resolution. I'd just go straight to WP:ANI/3RR myself, but I edit from a mobile device and it's difficult to follow the 3RR process.

Bloodborne

Hey, I know this is a tad late, but I noticed you undid my edit of Bloodborne back in June because I wasn't providing sources. My problem with that was, the source was already in the reference page, I just didn't know how to cite it. I added it back though and pasted the link to the source page in the edit summary on the history of the article. I'll take it off if you don't think it's a good enough source, but I just wanted to clarify that. Also, the open world category, I noticed that some games link to the article on open world, but they aren't truly open, and I was citing the games Wikipedia articles themselves, but now I'm going around looking for sources to back up those changes. Just let me know if theirs any you don't agree with on the page. It's really hard finding sources, especially for the older games.Dohvahkiin (talk) 03:07, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Star Wars canon

Hello, I noticed you reverted my change on said page. Why? Use of a redundancy in a definition, such as canon is canonical is non informative. What was wrong with my update? Thanks Saml214 (talk) 00:09, 30 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Saml214:,
I'm on my phone, not sure if the diff works. I didn't realize I undid your edits, sorry about that. In my edit, I removed the links to Star Wars and to canon out of the bold in the lead. I thought it was redundant, saying that is about what is canonical.
Hi @Saml214:,
I've just edited the article again, from

The Star Wars canon refers to the collection of media considered officially authorized by Lucasfilm, Ltd. Details regarding characters and events reflect the official depictions of the Star Wars story-line throughout the franchise (i.e. the canonical depiction of Star Wars).

to

The Star Wars canon refers to the collection of Star Wars media considered officially canon by Lucasfilm. Details regarding characters and events reflect the official depictions of the Star Wars story-line throughout the franchise.

I've reworded it, as "media considered officially authorized" is not what the canon is; [[Lucasfilm|Lucasfilm, Ltd.]] is unnecessary, Lucasfilm is the company's common name; canonical depiction of Star Wars is redundant, as the lead already states that it is about the Star Wars canon. --Soetermans. IMDb classification doesn't mean a shit. I've provided a source and imdb is not a reliable source because it is user-generated content. Hey @Oxygene7-13:, ik ben nu aan het werk maar zal proberen zsm te reageren! Groeten uit Amsterdam! --Soetermans. T / C 21:09, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
Have you forgotten about me? (no offence, weetje...) Oxygene7-13 (talk) 12:00, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
Nee hoor @Oxygene7-13:, erg druk gehad!
--Soetermans. T / C 12:24, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
In dat geval: What I was wondering about, why aren't you active on the Dutch Wikipedia at all? Oxygene7-13 (talk) 16:52, 18 November 2015 (UTC)

Hey @Oxygene7-13:, sorry for my late reply. When I first heard of Wikipedia all those years ago, the Dutch Wikipedia was still very small. Most of my edits concern video games, which has far more information on the English Wikipedia than the Dutch one. So that's why I'm not active there. --Soetermans. OK @Soetermans:, I was just curious. Oxygene7-13 (talk) 15:24, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Deletion review for Virtonomics

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Virtonomics. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review.  · Salvidrim! ·  17:29, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Hey @Salvidrim!:,
If I recall correctly, beyond my nomination of the deletion of the article, I wasn't involved in its deletion, so I won't be part of the discussion about the right procedures. I appreciate the message though. Kind regards, --Soetermans. T / C 19:17, 29 December 2015 (UTC)

Happy New Year Soetermans!
