Tip of the moment...
Do you need administrator assistance?

Have you run across a problem that requires the attention of an Administrator?

The fastest way to catch the attention of administrators in general is to post an alert to the Administrators' noticeboard (A.N.). Administrators go there all the time to see what is up with Wikipedia; one of them will see your message and will take immediate appropriate action. Experienced editors hang out there too and sometimes will answer a question before an Admin gets to it.

Another option is to paste a {{admin help}} template (with the four curly braces) along with your question on to your Talk page and an Admin will stop by shortly.

To add this auto-randomizing template to your user page, use {{totd-random}}

List of Kongu Vellalars

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article List of Kongu Vellalars, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please do not close AfD discussion prematurely. Discussion should run for seven days. As for your closure itself, you interpretation of consensus leaves room for improvement. Relisting AfDs

Hi. I just wanted to point out to you, with regards to your relisting Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bradley D. Simon, that when you relist an AfD, you have to transclude it to the new day and remove it from the old as set out here. Otherwise, it doesn't actually get relisted. :) I've done it with this one; this is just a note for future reference. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:41, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Your copyvio tag on the page "Sacchidananda Bharathi-I"

I would like to know the reason why you have tagged it as "source not verifiable" and as possible "copyright infringement" I am K Bala and I have created the page for the benefit and knowledge of the devotees of Sringeri Peetam - This is a verifiable account in Sringeri Sarada Peetam's library of manuscripts and it has been translated in 1967 by R Krishnaswamy Iyer under His Holiness Sri Abhinava Vidyateertha swamiji command. His holiness has visited this village in 1965. I and my ancestors belong to this village Kunnuvarankottai.

Also the account has been published in "Amman Darsanam" tamil magazine in the year 2005.

Hope this is sufficient to keep the article in the wikipedia - Let me know if this tag can be removed 12:26, 22 March 2008 (UTC)Kbala1055 (talk) 12:26, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Re: Sachidananda bharathi

Late R Krishnaswamy Iyer ( Who became a sanyasi called Swami Gnanananda) translated the original Sanskrit manuscript (author unknown) found in the library of Sringeri Sarada Peetam in both Tamil and English in the 60's.

This book titled "Sri Sachchidananda Bharathi - The 25th Pontiff at Sringeri (1623-1663) was published in 1967 by "The Akhila Bharata Sankara Seva Samithi - Coimbatore Branch" and printed at "The Jupiter Press Private Limited, Madras - 18".

It was done as per the instructions of the His Holiness of Sringeri Sarada Peetam. He has visited this village in 1965 and told the villagers that the village is the birthplace of the 25th pontiff and asked them to celebrate the birthday of the 25th pontiff every year. Since this is the birthplace of the the 25th Pontiff, he specifically asked the Villagers to celebrate his birthday and not the aradhana day (Samadhi day for Sanyasis). As per his advice, from 1965 , the villagers celeberate his birthday in Avani Rohani Nakshatram day and get the Sringeri Acharya's blessings every year.

If you can send me your email id and contact address we can send you the xerox copies of the tamil and English translations as we just have one hardcopy of the original translation with us now.

Re:Your request to specify

Hi Ravichandar

I think that you are more experienced and knows the do's and don'ts of Wikipedia. As this acharya was born in this village, we would like to add additional information regarding his purvasrama (Childhood).

We are from his village and so we added some details like the photographs and celebrations about the village. We have constructed a Dhyana Mandapam in this village in the memory of this Acharya.

There is no copyright mentioned in this book and in this Foreword, he prays that this reaches large circle of readers, particularly young men and women, and inspire them with devotion to our great spiritual Gurus and their teachings.

Our aim is to do this only.

If you can send your address, I can send a photocopy of this book itself.

I have given below the text from the foreword and also my additions. You can go through and retain what is appropriate.

I have marked the text with "From the Biography-Foreword start " and "From the Biography-Foreword End" wherever it is relevent.

<My text contribution start> This extract is from the translated work of Biography of Jagadguru Sri Sachchidananda's life (1623-1663) by R. Krishnaswami Iyer (Swami Jnanananda Bharati). <My text contribution end>

<From the Biography-Forword Start>

Under His Holiness command, Sri R. Krishnaswamy Iyer examined and studied some old sanskrit manuscripts. While studying the Ramachandra Mahodaya Kavya of Sri Sachchidananda Bharati swami, the twenty fifth Jagadguru, he discovered another manuscript dealing with the life of that Jagadguru and bearing the title - Sri Ramachandra Mahodaya Kavya Karta Swarupa Prakasam. It was indeed a veritable treasure. It is unfortunate that the name of the author of this Kavya is not known.

Jagadguru Sri Sachchidananda's pontificate (1623-63) was mostly cast in a period of turmoil, civil wars, anarchy and lawlessness, which engulfed this region of India. It speaks of the greatness of Acharya that in such troublous times, he not only saved the integrity of the Peetha but also largely enhanced its eminence. Young Narasimha - that was his pre-ordination name - was born in a South Indian village in Madura district called Srikanteswarapuram

< From the Biography-Foreword End >

<My Text contribution start>

(Now known as Kunnuvarankottai, a picturesque village in Dindigul district is on the Vattalagundu – Usilampatti road situated eight kilometres off Vattalagundu bus stand (Also referred as vathalagundu or batlagundu or vathalakundu). This village can also be reached by train. The nearest railway station Kodaikanal road is only approximately 30 kilometres away from this village.[1]

This village is served by two rivers Vaigai and Manjalaru. River Vaigai here shares the distinction along with Ganges at Triveni Sangam by taking a northern course (Uthara Vahini).

Picturesque surroundings of this village

The hoary antiquity of this place was made known to the villagers by the 35th pontiff of Dakshinamnaya Sringeri Maha Sannidanam Sri Sri Abhinava Vidhya Theertha Maha Swamigal who graced this place in 1965. The present Mahasannidhanam Sri Sri Bharathi Theertha Maha Swamigal visited this place in 1987. As per Sri Sri Mahasannidhanam, the Kumbhabhisekam of the Lord Viswanantha temple situated here was conducted in 2001 and annual Jayanthi of the 25th Pontiff Sri Sachchidananda Barathi Maha Swamigal is celebrated every year here in month of Sravana (Rohini star) by ardent devotees.) <My Text contribution end>

<From the Biography-Foreword Start>

Even in the midst of adversity, Narasimha (25th Pontiff) soon acquired mastery of the Vedas and the Sastras and later visited many famous shrines which helped to cultivate in him the attitude of a supreme devotee. Meticulous in the performance of the duties ordained to a brahmachari the desire was kindled in him to enter the grihasta stage of life and lead the ideal life of that asrama. He travelled to Sringeri in the hope of winning the hand of the daughter of his maternal uncle, who was then a scholar in the Math. The then Jagadguru Narasimha Bharati discovered in Narasimha all the makings of a successful Acharya and persuaded him to take sannyasa. The moment Narasimha made up his mind to take up the Holy Order, all his vasanas disappeared and he shone with great spiritual effulgence. Such was the spiritual power of the then Sringeri Acharya, and such powers have often been manifested in the past by Acharyas of the Sringeri Parampara. Sri Sachchidananda, the newly ordained Swami, soon succeeded to the Peetha. Through the power of his tapasya and mantrasiddhi, he saved Sringeri from spoilation. Besides his great austerities, he had an uncanny genius for administration. It is no wonder that contemporary Princes and Administrators, including Muslims, held him in great reverence. We should remember this great Guru among the hierarchy of Peethadhipathis, for he had been chosen from Southern Tamilnadu to the Sringeri Math. This consideration does strengthen our bonds of affection and devotion to the great peetha to which we owe allegiance.

The author, a renowned Sanskrit scholar, an ideal devotee of Sringeri Peetham, and who is respected all over India, has already given us the story of Sri Sachchidananda Bharati in Tamil with copious quotations from the Kavya and it has been published by the Akhila bharatha Sankara Seva Samiti in two parts. Now he has with his usual clarity favoured us with an English summary of the work.

We thank Sri Nanjundiah and Sri Ramakrishnan of "Sulur House", Coimbatore, for the assistance thay have given in bringing out this publication in a neat form to be submitted at the Lotus feet of His Holiness.

As my esteemed friend, Sri K R Venkatraman, the editor of Sri Sankara Kripa, rightly observes in his Foreword to Part - II of the Tamil book, there are two ways of securing the blessings of the Great: one is to be in close proximity to them and serve them to the best of one's ability, and the other is to contemplate on their great qualities and thus get drawn towards them. Books such as this help those in latter group.

I pray that this book may reach a large circle of readers, particularly young men and women, and inspire them with devotion to our great spiritual Gurus and their teachings.

Re: Your modifications on Sachidananda Bharathi-I

Thanks for the modification -

I would like to bring to your notice facts about this important pilgrimage place.

The village is now in Dindigul district and not in Madurai district as mentioned by you.

I would like to add a few sentences based on the facts described in the Tamil version of his biography by the same author (2 volumes) - Printed by Vani Press, Srirangam

1) This village is served by three rivers Vaigai, Maruda and Manjalaru (mentioned as Haridra in the biography). The river Vaigai takes a slightly northern course near this village

2) The Jayanthi (birthday) of 25th Pontiff Sri Sachchidananda Barathi Maha Swamigal is mentioned in the biography as in the month of Sravana -Rohini star. The jayanthi is celebrated every year by devotees

3) The Kumbhabhisekam of the Lord Viswanantha temple situated here was conducted in 2001. (Landmark for this small village). Both the current and the previous Sringeri Pontiffs have visited this village.

4) The photograph of the Maruda tree which is more than 100 years old and is near the temple. That is why we added this photo. Can this also be retained?

Let me know your opinion if these can be added Kbala1001:53, 30 March 2008 (UTC)Kbala1055 (talk)

Re: Your reply on Sachidananda Bharathi-I

Thanks for your opinion.

I have added the points 1 and 2 based on the biography.

I would like to mention that there is no copyright mentioned in both the books and not even cost of the book is printed in the book.

As you rightly pointed out that you are not an expert on this subject to verify the factual accuracy, this can be left only to the authorities of Sringeri Sharada peetham who can be mentioned as experts on this subject. They have published the Tamil (2 Volumes) and English translations of the books in 1967.

I pray that all the tags be removed by you from the article since you have cleaned (wikified) the article.

Thanks K Bala 10:34, 30 March 2008 (UTC)~~kbala1055

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Priyamani07.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Mspraveen (talk) 18:25, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
