Will be better if a bot can run and fix the errors.

- @Anishviswa, It is not possible for a bot to fix these errors. They require understanding of the reference that an automated bot lacks. Qwerfjkltalk 14:38, 22 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Brennan Hill (06:19, 24 November 2024)
I have recently created a Wikipedia article about SQM Research, an Australian real estate data and research firm, and I would greatly appreciate it if you could take a look at it when you have the time. I'm new to the commnity, so your insights and feedback would be invaluable in ensuring that the article meets Wikipedia’s standards. Thank you
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Brennan_Hill/sandbox --Brennan Hill (talk) 06:19, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Brennan Hill, the main issue is that the page has a promotional tone. It's also a bit lacking it sources - it needs to meet the notability guideline for companies. You also use
... often referenced in the media[2]
- this is not how to use references. The reference itself is a good source, but you can't point to it is an example of the subject being referenced in media, you need a reference that actually says it is often referenced in media - that would fall under WP:Original research. Set of Linter patterns for 23 Nov 2024
I have set up a new list of Linter patterns in my sandbox. The usual caveats apply. I'll be happy to check and fix anything that is necessary. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:24, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Jonesey95, thanks. I'm quite busy right now, so I don't think I'll be able to do much work on this for about a month. I'm planning on writing a website to make submitting & checking the linter batches easier. Qwerfjkltalk 21:45, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. Whenever you can get to it is fine. I don't think anyone else is fixing these batches, so they should be waiting for you when you have time. – Jonesey95 (talk) 23:14, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
MassRM
Is there a MassRM tool? Web-julio (talk) 00:57, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Why do you need a mass removal tool? SMasonGarrison 02:21, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- I am guessing Web-julio is talking about WP:RM (aka requested moves). @Web-julio: Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting multiple page moves has the instructions: The RM template is a MassRM tool; RMCD bot does the heavy lifting. Best, HouseBlaster (talk • he/they) 02:43, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Thankfully we don't need to tag pages on mainspace by ourselves here for RMs.
- While for mass removals, I think that would require AWB permission, but I never wanted mass removing anything.
- I wanted it to solve the inconsistency between this and this. As Mason is already aware about this issue I brought to a CfD/S. But I just noticed Twinkle already offers multiple RM. Web-julio (talk) 23:39, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Anyways, there's already a RM about this going on Talk:European Union–United States relations#Requested move 23 November 2024 Web-julio (talk) 23:47, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm aware and frankly pretty concerned that you're not slowing down or taking the time to listen to the feedback you've been receiving. SMasonGarrison 00:29, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- If I didn't start the CfD/S, this RM wouldn't be happening, so in the end, I'm glad I'm contributing positively and bringing up the issues to people who volunteer themselves in such areas. If you want me to stop using talk pages or Wikipedia namespace and interacting with people, then you can stay concerned. Web-julio (talk) 07:07, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- All I'm asking is that you listen to the feedback you've been receiving. SMasonGarrison 13:09, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Are you taking bot requests?
Hey Qwerfjkl, I hope you're well. I was wondering, are you taking bot requests at the moment? I was looking for someone to schedule a regular task, perhaps once a week, to add Template:WikiProject National Football League to relevant pages which don't have it yet. Every now and then I use AWB to do so, and I think it'd be a pretty straight forward and reasonable bot task. I run a recursive search against Category:National Football League players by team, skip talk pages which have "WikiProject National Football League", "NFLproject", "WikiProject NFL", "WPNFL", or "WP NFL", and then manually add the WikiProject template. Assessments typically come later and I wouldn't be asking the bot operator to try to code any of that in, as my primary goal to simply tag them as relevant to the WikiProject. Thankfully, based on Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League/Assessment, we're pretty good about going back around and adding a rating (though importance not so much), which is why I don't think this task would be in vain. Entirely understandable if you're not interested in taking on another task, but I know you're great at what you do and I appreciate your work, so I thought I'd make this my first stop. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:14, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh, I can probably get round to this on the weekend. Have you had a discussion on the wikiproject talk page? - That would make the brfa a bit easier. I do have some code for this left over from WP:PIQA that I could probably repurpose for this task.
If desirable, I could use ORES for article quality ratings, perhaps restricting it to stub assessments which it's pretty accurate at. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)- No rush! I'll start a discussion at the WikiProject about it. I kind of didn't even think it'd be necessary but that's an ignorant thought on my part. Just because I do something manually sometimes doesn't mean there shouldn't be consensus that a bot can take over :P I think with ORES restricting to stub might be a great idea, so I'll include that when starting the discussion. Hey man im josh (talk) 21:27, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- It's probably not strictly neccessary, but BRFA is perpetually backlogged, so it's nice to make BRFAs as clear-cut as possible. Qwerfjkltalk 21:29, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay, I've been away, but I've started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Football League#Autotagging pages in player categories for the NFL WikiProject. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:17, 18 November 2024 (UTC)
- No opposition from those who were interested in chiming in, I want to say we're good to go when you are! Hey man im josh (talk) 18:33, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Updates for editors
- A new version of the standard wikitext editor-mode syntax highlighter will be available as a beta feature later this week. This brings many new features and bug fixes, including right-to-left support, template folding, autocompletion, and an improved search panel. You can learn more on the help page.
- The 2010 wikitext editor now supports common keyboard shortcuts such
Ctrl
+B
for bold andCtrl
+I
for italics. A full list of all six shortcuts is available. Thanks to SD0001 for this improvement. [1] - Starting November 28, Flow/Structured Discussions pages will be automatically archived and set to read-only at the following wikis: bswiki, elwiki, euwiki, fawiki, fiwiki, frwikiquote, frwikisource, frwikiversity, frwikivoyage, idwiki, lvwiki, plwiki, ptwiki, urwiki, viwikisource, zhwikisource. This is done as part of StructuredDiscussions deprecation work. If you need any assistance to archive your page in advance, please contact Trizek (WMF).
- View all 25 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, a user creating a new AbuseFilter can now only set the filter to "protected" if it includes a protected variable.
Updates for technical contributors
- The CodeEditor, which can be used in JavaScript, CSS, JSON, and Lua pages, now offers live autocompletion. Thanks to SD0001 for this improvement. The feature can be temporarily disabled on a page by pressing
Ctrl
+,
and un-selecting "Live Autocompletion". - Tool-maintainers who use the Graphite system for tracking metrics, need to migrate to the newer Prometheus system. They can check this dashboard and the list in the Description of the task T350592 to see if their tools are listed, and they should claim metrics and dashboards connected to their tools. They can then disable or migrate all existing metrics by following the instructions in the task. The Graphite service will become read-only in April. [2]
- The New PreProcessor parser performance report has been fixed to give an accurate count for the number of Wikibase entities accessed. It had previously been resetting after 400 entities. [3]
Meetings and events
- A Language community meeting will take place November 29 at 16:00 UTC. There will be presentations on topics like developing language keyboards, the creation of the Mooré Wikipedia, the language support track at Wiki Indaba, and a report from the Wayuunaiki community on their experiences with the Incubator and as a new community over the last 3 years. Question from Francocriscola (15:14, 26 November 2024)
Hello, I am currently trying to translate a wikipedia page. I used the auto-translate feature and fixed whatever needed to be fixed, but it was surprisingly very accurate. However, the page won't let me upload given that it is 98% similar to the auto-translation. Is there a way to get around this issue? --Francocriscola (talk) 15:14, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Francocriscola, I'm not aware of any translation tool that allows automatic translation on the English Wikipedia. Were you trying to translate to English, or a different language? And what tool did you use - what did it look like etc.? — Qwerfjkltalk 17:24, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
