Over the past two years quite a few black American academic administrators have been targeted or attacked by anti-D.E.I. pundits and accused of plagiarism without recourse and without quotes of their responses to these attacks included in postings or Wikipedia pages that cite questionable sources accusing these individuals of having plagiarized (see “further reading” for references). Despite many groups being included under the umbrella of DEI, in academia more than 96% of those attacked and accused of plagiarism as a part of the anti-DEI movement have been black administrators and faculty, which researchers note is also a part of the anti-Black Lives Matter movement (see “further reading” for references). Overlooking this glaring disruption to American academic society during an election year and including this one-sided discussion regarding a living person amounts to censorship and targeted positioning of the biographies of selected human beings on Wikipedia.
Why this human being, an American administrator and academic who happens to be the descendant of slaves, is being targeted in these edits align with the political targeting in response to the anti-DEI movement of at least the past two years (2023-current). This post is more than targeted and skewed and yet remains on Wikipedia in its current derogatory form.
The edited version of this Wikipedia page as converted in February of 2024 by “EasyAsPei” and “Grumpyeconomist” in March of 2024 for this living person do not use neutral tones to include any of the other verifiable career positions or academic achievements of a living person. These are targeted edits. This appears to be in response to national coverage of the university’s firing of a College of Engineering faculty member on February 6, 2024, <ref>https://www.chronicle.com/article/nevada-faculty-member-who-accused-former-adviser-of-sexual-abuse-says-shes-been-fired</ref> <ref>https://www.chronicle.com/article/a-question-of-consent</ref> <ref>https://www.kunr.org/local-stories/2023-10-12/unr-students-disrupt-university-event-in-support-of-faculty-member-alleging-sexual-abuse</ref>
Despite being elected a Fellow of the [[American Association for the Advancement of Science]] (AAAS) "for distinguished contributions to the field of engineering, particularly for radio frequency identification (RFID), tracking, and lean six sigma contributions to manufacturing, logistics, health care, and public outreach," <ref>https://www.eurekalert.org/news-releases/941416</ref> <ref>https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.ada0325</ref> a background as an elected fellow of among other organizations, and as a former senior science advisor in the Office of the Chief Economist at the [[U.S. Department of State]], he took on the role of Dean of the College of Engineering at the University of Nevada from 2022-2024. He was the first black American Dean of the College of Engineering at UNR and completed this detail during the anti-DEI movement. Following national coverage of the university's firing of a College of Engineering faculty member on February 6, 2024, <ref>https://www.chronicle.com/article/nevada-faculty-member-who-accused-former-adviser-of-sexual-abuse-says-shes-been-fired</ref> <ref>https://www.chronicle.com/article/a-question-of-consent</ref> <ref>https://www.kunr.org/local-stories/2023-10-12/unr-students-disrupt-university-event-in-support-of-faculty-member-alleging-sexual-abuse</ref> Jones faced accusations of plagiarism and attacks on the quality of his academic research.
None of these edits were corrected by Nomoskedasticity but were in fact exacerbated to include false information from gossip sources and sources with clear COIs in April of 2024. The UNR commencement from May of 2024 lists Jones as Dean of the College of Engineering (see “further reading” for reference). Yet, none of these previous edits were corrected or updated except by a few that noted the incorrect information as cited from gossip sources. The corrected edits were later reverted by Nomoskedasticity. The reverted pages are not neutral in tone and appear to originate from a paid editor. The edits to this page that EasyAsPei and Grumpyeconomist made on Wikipedia have been disputed by multiple editors in the history of the page and noted clear disparaging language used by them and the main, first editor, who continues to take a significant interest in this individual, as of February 7, 2024 (see the edit history). The fact that there’s a seemingly unwavering interest in keeping this disparaging language with gossip columns and outlets with clear conflicts of interest as referenced sources is clearly political in nature.
It is defamatory to include false information on a page of a human being. It is defamatory and constitutes libel to use sources that have clear conflicts of interest and that are considered gossip as heavily references sources for a human being. The defamatory information regarding a career position using gossip sources as references is listed at the top of the page. Career information that has been included on the top of the page does so to skew readers’ perspectives rather than to list the career-related information under the “Career” section. There is ample effort that has been put towards negatively skewing the view. It is not neutral in tone and appears to originate from a paid editor, political pundit, and their friends.
It’s shameful that Wikipedia claims to be neutral yet is clearly biased in allowing a posting of a one-sided story conjured from mainly gossip magazines for a human being, to remain posted and permanent. This has remained posted and is continually reverted to the incorrect information by mainly one editor. This page remains without including reputable sources and without allowing for the inclusion of information noting the political climate in which these attacks are occurring.
