Infobox Officeholder, Post-nominals and HTML
This is a quick enquiry and I have read Infobox officeholder documentation & Formatting of name & honorifcs.
I can understand the need to remove customised html code which complicates use of Wikipedia in media other than a web browser. I've found span tags in a group of articles and attempts to remove the tags are reverted. Can you tell me the wikipedia policy/basis for removing html that caused all of the work you undertook in Formatting of name & honorifics? - Karl Stephens (talk|contribs) 12:56, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Spans may serve a different purpose, and not do the harm, than the HTML to which you refer. Can you provide an example? Also, please don't sign your comments with a full-width horizontal rule. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:19, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- I now see where you mean. Your edits also included the removal of links; perhaps that's why you were reverted? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:25, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- Here's an example of the code that effects font colour and size:

Translating "Personal acquaintances"
Hi Pigsonthewing, I found your name here and wanted to ask if you could help improving the translation and functionality of this wonderful project? I have requested import to en.wiki and now it is in my userspace, waiting to be made ready for launching. If you don't have the time yourself I would be very thankful if you could ask other native English Wikipedians for helping it? --BR, .js 13:22, 14 April 2014 (UTC)

you edited("Editiere hier bitte nicht von Hand. Gehe stattdessen zu Wikipedia:Persönliche Bekanntschaften/neue Anfragen.") translates to: Please do not edit this page. Go to de:Wikipedia:Persönliche Bekanntschaften/neue Anfragen instead.Although the bot fixed ityou can help improving the English manual (that I now boldly launched to WP:Personal acquaintances) in this respect. Perhaps some of the Screenshots should be added, with English explanation. - PS. We should now continue this talk at Wikipedia talk:Personal acquaintances instead of bothering Pigsonthewing's talk page any more, who does not seem to participate. --BR, .js 04:04, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

OER inquiry
Hi Pigsonthewing, I'm sending you this message because you're one of about 300 users who have recently edited an article in the umbrella category of open educational resources (OER) (or open education). In evaluating several projects we've been working on (e.g. the WIKISOO course and WikiProject Open), my colleague Pete Forsyth and I have wondered who chooses to edit OER-related articles and why. Regardless of whether you've taken the WIKISOO course yourself - and/or never even heard the term OER before - we'd be extremely grateful for your participation in this brief, anonymous survey before 27 April. No personal data is being collected. If you have any ideas or questions, please get in touch. My talk page awaits. Thanks for your support! - Sara FB (talk) 20:46, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I believe the following discussion about template accessibility may be of use to you. Please comment if you wish at Template_talk:Infobox_album#Consistancy. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 21:55, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
Stop reformatting comments
I am unbelievably angry with you right now. Please stop reformatting my comments. I understand that you have particular formatting preferences. That does not give you the right to reformat my comments to meet your requirements. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template_talk:Infobox_album&diff=next&oldid=606604651 Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:02, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- You do not have the right to format your comments, to meet your requirements, such that they orphan or break others'. Even less do you have the right to delete others' comments. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:12, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- Wait. I don't have the right to reformat my own comments to meet my requirements or one does not have the right to reformat ones comments (and that list excludes you)? I am not orphaning your comments. Further to that, please explain how I'm breaking your formatting.
- I didn't see that the revert deleted your comment. I have fixed it correctly. Please don't reformat it again.
- Finally, please place a talkback template on my talk page. I don't want to make patrolling your talk page a regular part of my Wikipedia activities. Thank you. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:43, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- As I said, you do not have the right to format your comments, to meet your requirements, such that they orphan or break others'. I think that's pretty unambiguous. You most definitely have been doing so, as already noted elsewhere. "I'm sorry you don't understand the problem", one might say. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 14:48, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- OK. Then since you won't answer the question, I'll point out that you're reformatting my comments after I've made them so you should stop reformatting mine. I'm sorry you don't understand the problem, but you seem to be long in that suit. You'll see that you decided not to follow the existing formatting and for some reason, I'm to blame for your deviation from the established norm.
- As for lack of cooperative behaviour, you also didn't place a talkback template on my talk page. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:58, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
- And yet you saw my reply anyway. Nonetheless, I'll be happy to quote for secretarial services. As also noted elsewhere it is you who fails to follow existing formatting. Which question do you imagine that I failed to answer? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:02, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Infobox animal breed
Hi, Andy! There seems to be something wrong with {{Infobox animal breed}}, where the "Horns" parameter appears not to work. An example is at Charolais cattle, where the field appears to be correctly filled, but the result does not display. I'm not sure if this is the only field that isn't working. Racecourse boxes
Andy, I think that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Infobox_racecourse is actually the most often used box for horse race tracks. It would be a really bad idea to merge it with the motorsports ones. I'd prefer some kind of dab linking to separate ones for motor sports and horse racing. Not sure where the discussion is on it though, the links are messed up. Montanabw(talk) 18:02, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
- FWIW, on the horse race infoboxes, I thought I was making things simpler. One beats two, two beat four, but dirt and turf sure as heck don't need separate boxes and they should be combined into a single one with a "surface=" parameter added if needed. JMO Montanabw(talk) 23:45, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Reference
Hey
Regarding this: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Boomtown Festival
You said to add references and independent sources. I'd be glad to, but the sources are the facts, so I don't really know where to find an independent reference.. I work for the festival, so it's just me providing a history of the event. What can I do to solve this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.82.253.79 (talk) 09:40, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
- Wait until the festival has been covered in independent, reliable sources per WP:42. Also, please note WP:COI and ensure that your edits meet the spirit of that policy, Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:44, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
I've tried to maintain a healthy attitude towards COI, so I'm thinking that won't be an issue The festival is covered every year in papers and the likes, but the information there is never complete. Plus, they won't write anything about the complete line-up of 2002 anymore, so to speak. Thanks for the review and advice, by the way — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.82.253.79 (talk) 10:01, 9 May 2014 (UTC)
Opera singers
Example: Katia Plaschka, I like infobox person, but certain parameters for classical singers are missing, such as voice type, field (opera, oratorio), label. See also. Can those be included from a different infobox, if yes, how? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:03, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- A group of editors (you can image who) have been very resistant to allowing the inclusion of such key information. A work around is to use {{Infobox musical artist}} (or to use that as a module of {{infobox person}}, and put, say, "Soprano voice" in the

Hello
Hi Andy,
Sorry for being curt, it's a bad habit of mine.
The only two people responding, you and Tony, were both reframing the issue into one about me and my personal preferences. I honestly don't think it has anything to do with that.
In the discussions that I've been involved with, the effect of a lot of links on readability has been seen as a problem that affects a large percentage of readers --- enough of them to make it something worth discussing. And it hasn't been just about overlinking. If I misinterpreted those discussions, I'm prepared to drop the button issue with my apologies for wasting people's time. But I've yet to come across anyone who feels that a lot of links improve readability. Those who don't have a problem with readability could simply ignore the new button. I can't understand why anyone would oppose, except perhaps the developers who might feel they have more important things to do. That would be a separate issue, and not for us to debate. Cheers, Mandruss (talk) 15:37, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

- Data access for Wikiquote will be enabled on June 10th. Coordination and questions should go to d:Wikidata:Wikiquote.
- Superclasses maps shows coordinates for a class of items on a map. Classes are coming from Wikidata.
- The EditItem suggester was released. You give it a property and it will return a list of items likely missing that property.
- The new duplicate item finder lists items that should potentially be merged.

- Development
- We're looking for a PHP developer to join the dev team and work on Wikidata. Apply!
- Looking for a cool university project with impact? We have some of them around Wikidata - not just for computer science students. Get in touch with Lydia.
- Had a lot to think about and recap from the Zürich Hackathon, e.g. things regarding search, suggestions as well as the user interface redesign
- Started doing mockups of the new user interface (Nothing to show yet, sorry!)
- Setup an autogenerating code documentation instance on labs at wbdoc.wmflabs.org. Hint: Submitting patches that make the inline code documentation even better is a good starting point to get involved in coding
- Continued working on the wikiba.se site and FAQ
- Worked on new datatype monolingual text (basically a string with an associated language)
- Reworked a hell lot of “change operations” code that’s responsible for each and every edit as well as validating user input and API requests, for example denying empty descriptions and finding and blocking unnecessary duplications
- Checked all the new Beta features that the teams in San Francisco are developing and made sure they work with Wikidata
- Our efforts to make Wikidata faster broke some gadgets so we helped fixing them. Sorry for the breakage!
- Dug into odd display bugs with the MonoBook skin and attempted to fix them (bugzilla:64741)
- More testing on simple queries
- Tpt worked on making inter-project links in the sidebar a beta-feature
- Monthly Tasks
- Fix a format or content violation for the academic degree (P512) property
- Hack on one of these.

- (blank usually goes first)
I imagine people more often visit a template's page to check what/where parameters are available/appear than to see/copy a blank syntax, so perhaps this blank-first norm is better discarded..? Sardanaphalus (talk) 09:18, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- No, it isn't. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:30, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- PS Do you know how to change the line-spacing in lists built using colons/asterisks/hashes at the beginnings of lines? If so, I'd be grateful to learn. Sardanaphalus (talk) 11:14, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Who is "people" in the first question? I need the blank parameters, ready to be copied, most, and most often. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:15, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- People like you and I (and Andy and...). If my speculation is mistaken, my apologies. I just thought that a template's existing instances might prompt (or, over time, come to prompt) more visits than the creation of new ones. Sardanaphalus (talk) 12:30, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- PS Do you know how to...[see PS above]...? Sardanaphalus (talk) 12:33, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- perhaps ask RexxS, or at the village pump? example? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:41, 19 May 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestions. I've just posted a request at the village pump, otherwise will contact RexxS. Sardanaphalus (talk) 12:40, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
