I've just created my first Wikipedia article: Barry Bonnell. In the history of Major League baseball, there have been a total of about 16,800 players - with over 100 more rookies coming up every year. I get the impression that maybe 20 percent of them have Wikipedia articles. Of course all the superstars have their own articles, but players like Bonnell still had an important part to play for their respective teams. In 1983, as a part-time or "platoon" player, Bonnell batted .318 with 10 HR, 54 RBI and 10 SB for the Toronto Bluejays. I feel this was a performance that was "noteworthy" enough for Wikipedia. - ClemsonTiger 17:07, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Eriksson/Selånger, the name in the list of results should be his name then, don't you agree? He won 4 medals. There is a remark on the 1933 page, perhaps this could be moved to 1934 (his last medal in the World Championships).
For some peculiar reason the official distance in 1929 and 1930 was not 18 km, it was 17. Should the Wikipedia pages be corrected accordingly? http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/1228.html?event_id=4850&event_idjp=6617&event_idnk=7449 http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/604/1228.html?event_id=4851&event_idjp=6618&event_idnk=7450
Could you please rename this page to Gjøslien? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Gj%C3%B8slund I don't know how to do this. Stavol2 18:13, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
My comments
Hi Chris,
My comments HERE were meant as tongue-in-cheek satire about his outlandish claims, but satire doen't always work on the www. I'm deeply appreciative of your help and desire to keep Clemson's name unsullied by the acts of one troll. Best regards. - Fairness And Accuracy For All 22:38, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Hm, thanks about that - I actually didn't even notice because I don't look at my userpage all that often. Not too creative on the part of the vandal though; you think he could have been a little more original, no? Aelfthrytha 03:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
WP:ADOPT
Hi there,
As a user looking to Adopt with the Adopt-a-User program, there has been some ongoing developments that we would like to bring to your attention, as well as request help with the backlog at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
You should know that the way the adoption process works has changed slightly. To decrease workload at Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user on offering adoption please change the {{Adoptme}} template to {{Adoptoffer}} on the user's user page, and this will add the user to Category:Wikipedians having been offered adoption. Users that have already been offered adoption can always have a second or third offer, but by separating out those users that have not had an adoption offer yet, it is hoped that no one will go lacking. Once adoption is complete please use the templates found here on the Adoptee's and your user page.
Also numerous Adopters have been adding their details to a list of users available for adopting, to offer a more personalised service and allow new users to browse through and pick their own Adopter. The quickest way to adopt though, is still to contact users at the Category:Wikipedians seeking to be adopted in Adopt-a-user.
Furthermore a new Adopter's Area has been created where you can find useful resources and other Adopter's experiences. Please feel free to add any resources you have and if you know of any useful resources for new users / Adoptees then you can add them here.
So I hope you get adopting soon - and if you have any general questions or suggestions about the further development of Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User please bring them to our talk page. Cheers Lethaniol 15:19, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Ski comments
Thank you for making the adjustments. I have made comments for 1926 and 1987, but I need your help as far as the language is concerned to look it over. About times and points, I'm still not sure how to mention mine on the pages because it is a book rather than a link. "Official program of the 1997 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, issued by the Norwegian Ski Federation". If you for instance show me on the 1939 page how you would like it done, I can follow on the other pages accordinglyStavol2 21:57, 13 January 2007 (UTC) I also made a comment for 1993. Whether it's relevant I will let you decide, but it's a remarkable recovery..Stavol2 22:18, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Chris, thanks for your reply. I have corrected the 1926 german link so that it is like the ones on the other pages. Of course, I should have looked at the Bredesen page before commenting on the 1993 page. My mistake. That's why the pages for each athlete are there. Perhaps we misunderstood eachother concerning the times and points. I cannot give a web link as a source, because it is a book which the Wikipedia readers cannot access. The program for the 1997 championships had a good historical part including results 1925-1995. I previously filled in times and points from 1934 until 1939. Shall I continue to do so without giving the source? I can hardly put it under the headline external links. Please advice. Does your reaction to the Super Bowl mean that you are generally not too interested in football, or that your favourite team (which is?)will not be there? Apropos Sapporo, thanks for your thoughts regarding Ivar Formo Stavol2 22:48, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your edits. I started the article as a stub, since I found a dead link in the Food Science article. I did not have more time to fix it, since I was working on other articles, and they required more attention. I see that a split between USSR and Russia has been done in the medal table. I have therefore put participating years for USSR and CSSR countries in parentheses, just like you had done it before I got involved in this. I suggest that we leave Germany (incl. West Germany) as it is. Please note also the correction of my reference on the 1939 page. I will try to achieve info about the relay squads for Sweden and Finland in 1941. I have tried as best as I can to look through the pre-war championships. I need your help to rename some sub-pages, which I don't know how to do: Albert Ettich to Antonin Ettrich, Joseph Adolf to Josef Adolf, Baldi Niederkorfer to Balthasar Niederkofler, Toni Gstrein to Hugo Gstrein, Knuutila to Knuuttila, Kårby to Kaarby, Kongsgård to Kongsgaard. I hope you will agree to these changes. I kept the links until any changes are made. Thank you. Stavol2 22:00, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Nordic skiing categories
Hi, thanks for your comment. The normal rule for categories is that if an article is in some category X, then it should not also be in a supercategory of X. In this case, there are the following categories:
Now, it certainly makes sense for all the individual FIS world championships to have the category Category:FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. But also placing them in all these Category:Nordic skiing and Category:Nordic combined is redundant, and makes those categories really hard to work with. Look at Category:Nordic combined - even though it's a category about a sport, 90% of the articles in it are much more specific - they're about one particular competition.
So, by making sure only the relevant categories are given to each article, we can make the category much more useful for browsing, while not losing any information. I hope this explains what I'm doing a bit better. Stevage 03:42, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I was kind of assuming that the FIS championships did involve several sports. In that case, I would put both the article FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and the category Category:FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in all three categories: Category:Nordic combined, Category:Nordic skiing etc. But the individual championships should just go in Category:FIS Nordic World Ski Championships unless there was something really remarkable about that year's championships. Thanks for your tip concerning moving pages. I hope I did it correctly. I added a link besides talking to a swedish friend to confirm the name. I thought the first name should be spelled with v instead of f, but I was wrong. Hyphens are used frequently in Sweden, but I think it is very rare when both names have more than one syllable. Sovereign Publications notability issues
I just updated the Sovereign Publications article in an effort to remove the notability mark that you put on yesterday. Please have a look at it and let me know if it sufficient to remove the tag. If not, please advise what needs to be done in order to remove the tag. I would greatly appreciate it. Chris 14:05, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- After a quick search on Google, a quick question - are they anything to do with this? Because if they are, that's the first noticeable thing that came up on Google after various address and contact detail listings, and would need to be included in the article. If they are not, and even with that included, I am still not sure they are notable enough. Rgds, - Trident13 14:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Re: Article split on Olympic medalists in cross-country skiing
I have not given any thought to the splitting of List of Olympic medalists in cross-country skiing that you mentioned as all of my efforts on Wikipedia have been in other areas, and my only involvement with the list has been the archiving of an old peer review request. You may have better results if you ask people who have been more involved with the article. --Allen3 talk 15:59, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:NicoleManske.jpg
This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:NicoleManske.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Fair use and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 03:02, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not an expert, but I do think that your expanded rationale helps. The part that I am still unsure of is that the picture is used in an infobox, which may make it appear to be purely decorative. You may want to move the image out of the infobox to the main text of the article. Or, you may want to seek the help of someone more experienced, such as User:Quadell, whom I have always found to be helpful. --After Midnight 0001 22:10, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
- To be honest, I don't think the image does actually satisfy the fair use requirements. It is basically just being used to illustrate Nicole rather than showing her actually hosting the show. In this respect, it still qualifies as a "replaceable fair use" image, because a free alternative could possibly be created/found to replace it. I moved the image around and did some cosmetic stuff to it yesterday, but after thinking about it, and in the interests of consistency considering my treatment of images on other articles, I have had to restore the "RFU" tag. This is nothing against you or After Midnight, but I do feel I have to follow the guidelines, no matter how unclear and contentious they are at the moment. -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 21:10, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
If you remove your IFD I can sort out the image and make it acceptable under the guidelines. The issue is you uploaded it over the previous image but didn't update the fair use rationale. -- PageantUpdater • talk | contribs | esperanza 01:59, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

Noticibilty for Sapporo 2007
It would be very nice to get some noticibility for FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2007. Re: GA nominee
There's no pictures of action, which might be a drawback; also, I don't know about how the prose reads, though I'm probably not the best judge of that. Personally, I think it's at least a good article, and if there are concerns about size there's always the option of creating Cross-country skiing at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2007, Ski jumping at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 and Nordic combined at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2007 - which I think is a good idea anyway, could include the top ten at each distance.
I think one thing is missing, though, and that's critical comment. Certainly a lot of Norwegian newspapers criticised the wisdom of placing a World Ski Championships in Japan with next to no crowds, particularly on the cross-country skiing events (the city has two million people and about 1,000 turned up...) and I think that has to be mentioned somewhere. There were a few other incidents as well (the steep descent on one of the loops where a few people fell, inevitable Scandinavian criticism of the IMO abominable mass start), but I guess it's hard to get cites in English.
Another thought, for a summer project: what do you think about creating articles such at Nordic skiing in Norway, Nordic skiing in the United States, etc.? They would contain things like the country's history at major events (World Championships, Holmenkollen, Vierschanzentournee, World Cup, Falun(?)), competitions held in the country, major centres of competition, national champions, etc. Sam Vimes | Address me 23:15, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK. I'll see what I can add tomorrow, I'll probably cite some Norwegian-language sources, maybe some German sources too. Sam Vimes | Address me 23:35, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Age category
Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:
- Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
- Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.
If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

- Looks good. Just a note on this—per WP:MOSNUM#Units of measurement, the units of measurements are supposed to be separated from the numbers with a non-breaking space. Not sure how exactly handle "4x10"-type of references, but there should either be non-breaking spaces or no spaces at all. Otherwise you risk situation where "4 x " would be on one line and "10" would be wrapped to another line. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 15:36, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Fair use photos of another article - assistance requested
Hello there. I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Do you want to use the pictures I already uploaded, do you want me to upload for your page images of that event, or do you want me to provide fair use rationales for the images? Sorry, I'm a little confused. Regardless, I'd probably be willing to do it, I'd just like to know what I'm doing!
