New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020
Hello Lefcentreright,
- Source Guide Discussion
The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.
- Redirects
New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.
- Discussions and Resources
- There is an ongoing discussion around changing notifications for new editors who attempt to write articles.
- A recent discussion of whether Michelin starred restraunts are notable was archived without closure.
- A resource page with links pertinent for reviewers was created this month.
- A proposal to increase the scope of G5 was withdrawn.
- Refresher
Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Patth, Bollywood movie
Hi, Hope you are well. Recently i created an article Patth for Bollywood movie which was marked for deletion by you. While the all information i collected from different sources and it's not the same as it was on those sites. I collected the details and put here in the article in a proper way like it should be on Wikipedia and still you marked it for deletion. Patth is 2003 Hindi Bollywood movie and i'm from Mumbai, India and i know well about Bollywood and Bollywood movies. You are senior and i request you to remove that deletion mark from the article. Thanks, FIH bone (talk) 05:39, 25 March 2020 (UTC+5:30 hours)
- @FIH bone: Hi, how are you? Thanks for your contributions. Unfortunately, I cannot take your word for it. To me, it just looks like you copy-and-pasted the section. The specific section has now been removed by a kind admin. You are welcome to summarise it in YOUR OWN WORDS. Kind regards, LefcentrerightTalk (plz ping) 20:28, 25 March 2020 (UTC)
- FIH bone, the 'plot' section appeared to be a direct copy/paste from the summary at IMDB. Please don't copy and paste content from any other website - we all need to write our own material in our own words. As well as being a copyright infringement, plot summaries from sites like IMDB are usually inappropriate for an encyclopedia - they tend to lean towards making the film sound exciting and encouraging the reader to watch it, whereas we aim for a more neutral, descriptive summary. If you have watched the film, you would be welcome to write a short plot summary in your own words - that would be better than trying to paraphrase another source. Sonal Devraj
Hi, on Sonal Devraj you have crossed your comment. But WP:CANVAS also features allowed ways. Can you please elaborate to me why one has to cross. I think it should be acceptable, as the request by User:Akhiljaxxn was not to comment delete or Keep. I am just trying to understand why you did what you did and if I must follow suit too. --Cedix (talk) 21:23, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Cedix: Hi, there. How are you? My best advice for you is to decide for yourself. I withdrew my vote because I saw a user who commented that the nominator approached them and it is a WP:CANVASSING concern to them, so I followed suit. LefcentrerightTalk (plz ping) 21:32, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
- I am doing fine, atleast so far, lets see how it goes. Thanks for asking,I truly appreciate it. How are you doing ?
- Regarding the AfD, yes, I had seen that user's note as well. But I think although this invitation was a bad call, considering the AfD had just started, and users would have commented there any way. It would have made more sense had it been relisted and had a visible lack of participation as happens in some cases. Nevertheless, I would not cross my comment since I consider the invitation was a neutral one and hence allowed by WP:CANVAS. I have already added a disclaimer in the beginning of my comment on the AfD, for the admins to consider. I do hope User:Akhiljaxxn takes a note of this discussion. --Cedix (talk) 22:13, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Page curation of So Hong-chan
Hi - just a heads up of your review process for the article on So Hong-chan. It is basically a word for word machine translation of the same article in Korean wikipedia. Given that there was only a single source on the page it's always worth checking around where material comes from. You may already be aware, but in case you are not, guidelines for the acceptable use of translations are here: WP:TFOLWP. Also, in case you don't know, there is a template that needs to be added to the talk page: {{translated page}}
. This editor seems to have done this with many articles related to North Korea − in general the editor should be doing this themselves and I left them a message about this, but if we are reviewing and it is not there, at the least we should leave a comment (eg under sourcing). Would you mind taking a look?
Hi - I came across Blaq Diamond in the NPP queue. The sources don't look RS to me - one is a Wiki, and I can't find any details about editorial staff and policy for the other two. Based on what's in the article, I'd be leaning towards AfD on grounds of a lack of notability; I'm aware of the inherent bias against African subjects though, so I wondered whether you might want to run your eye over it and see if there is any coverage in local RS that could help support notability? Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 15:41, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Girth Summit Hi, there. I have taken a look at the article. My conclusion is that the article reads like one big puff piece. Blaq Diamond is an up-and-coming band, but not yet notable enough for them to have an article on Wikipedia. As of now, local coverage of them is minimal. Also, the article has been speedily deleted twice (A7 in March 2017 and G11 in February of this year), so I believe a third speedy deletion is probably needed. Regards, LefcentrerightTalk (plz ping) 17:53, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- Lefcentreright, thanks - yeah, that was my reading too. I didn't think it was G11-level promo, so was trying to get a sense if it could be improved with better sourcing, or if AfD was the right location - I missed that it had been speeded in the past, although in fairness to the author this article is less spammy than the deleted version. Thanks for taking a look - I see that another reviewer has nominated it to AfD already, in case you want to look in there.
- Hope you're keeping well in the current situation. GirthSummit (blether) 10:30, 3 May 2020 (UTC)
DYK for Makoti Khawula
On 5 May 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Makoti Khawula, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that South African MP Makoti Khawula insists on speaking and being addressed in isiZulu and isiXhosa while in parliament? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Makoti Khawula. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Makoti Khawula), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Since you assert you are the Chief Executive Officer of the Freedom Front Plus, I am going to assume you have a WP:FCOI (financial conflict of interest) because you are employed by the party. Please read Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
- In a nutshell, you must disclose who is paying you and add the disclosure to your user page and anywhere else relevant, e.g. see Talk:Mia Farrow and User:Alexdltb to see how to disclose. You are strongly discouraged from directly editing related articles, however, you can make edit requests {{request edit}} (Always add the preceding template) at the talk page of the specific article or at the WP:COIN to have it peer-reviewed. If you want to create an article, please do so through the Articles for Creation instead of creating them directly. I hope this helped. LefcentrerightTalk (plz ping) 13:59, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice
Hi Lefcentreright, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.
Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.
To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!
Sent to all Articles for Creation reviewers as a one-time notice. To opt-out of all massmessage mailings, you may add Category:Wikipedians who opt out of message delivery to your user talk page. Regards, Sam-2727 (talk)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Daily Lokaai. I do not think that Daily Lokaai fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because this is about a publication and so is out of scope for CSD A7. Lefcentreright, just as a heads-up, articles and drafts about Amit Bhadana have been deleted many times and recreated by a large number of paid sockpuppets – it is not a coincidence that Amit Bhadana is create protected, as is Draft:Amit Bhadana. Hindu Viki is definitely one of the sockpuppets, there are a lot of overlaps with previous sockpuppets of Swarup Kumar Solanki. This is not a comment on your edits or your AfC approval of the draft, of course. None of us can be aware of all the paid socks around. I just wanted to explain why I have placed a UPE tag on it. Copyright Infringement Amer Jamil
Hi there,
In regards to the speedy deletion you put on this article.
I was just wondering if there were any particular parts of the article which you thought I should review more thoroughly in terms of copyright infringement? I'm addressing the issues now and hopefully will soon remove any instances of this. If you let me know which bits in particular I'll be sure to look into those bits in greater detail.
Thanks!
Edit: I have now removed any potential copyright infringement, please do let me know if there's anything else you think I've missed out. Thank you again for pointing this out I really do appreciate it!

SACP
So according to your level of editing and the experience that you have aquired in this field, it is fine with you that an Organisation such as the SACP, it's Central Committee Members must not be published in the Article of the SACP. The only important once are the veterans and secretaries of that organisation, last I checked the catations where used such as the organisational, governmental wabsite etc. So I am asking what lead to the delatation of that information.
I am asking because you seem to be most focus on South African Politics and Politicians. So probably you will inlighten me.Tefo S Radebe (talk) 15:38, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
@Tefo S Radebe: Hi, there. It looked a bit cluttered so I moved it all to Central Committee of the South African Communist Party to make it easier to navigate. Sorry to see you retire from Commons. Hope you come back some time in the future - FWIW the rules can be frustrating but I find it more mellow than WP. Gbawden (talk) 07:25, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, Gbawden. Thanks for messaging me. I haven't retired from Commons. All is well. I mean, I've been trying to categorise all those pictures in the Commons category "Politicians of South Africa". I just wanted fewer pictures of me to be on Commons. I did not expect that to be a sign of me retiring. Best, LefcentrerightDiscuss 08:31, 17 June 2020 (UTC)
New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020
Hello Lefcentreright,
- Your help can make a difference
NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.
- Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate
In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.
- Discussions and Resources
- A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
- Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
- A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
- Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Bloemfontein as judicial capital
Your disruptive reverts of cited information are not helpful. Furthermore South Africa's constitution came into effect in 1996, and it doesn't contain the word "Bloemfontein" so your reason for the last revert is dubious~.Park3r (talk) 14:49, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Your supposed cited information is incorrect. Look here. Also, the constitution came into effect on 4 February 1997. Dispute this? Look here LefcentrerightDiscuss 15:16, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Rollback granted
Hi Lefcentreright. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Cabayi (talk) 20:35, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello. Did you mean to undo more than the removal of some spaces in this edit? Number 57 23:35, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Number 57: Hello, there. I was looking through the page history and saw that an IP introduced deliberate factual errors, such as adding incorrect seat totals, changing the party names, etc. I completely freaked out when I saw that and reverted the page to the "last proper version" in my opinion. I now see my error. I have reverted it back to the last version by Frietjes. Thanks for notifying me about my mistake. Lefcentreright Talk | Contribs | Global 11:18, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
