Hello hello

Nice to "see" you around again :) AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 02:12, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello Hello. Happy thanksgiving (a tad late, but in the same week nevertheless) :) Hope all's well. Nice to see you again AP. Ktin (talk) 02:15, 14 October 2021 (UTC)

… and now happy Halloween. Can one RD and DYK the same article? AleatoryPonderings (???) (!!!) 23:25, 31 October 2021 (UTC)

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this year's WikiCup, whether they made it to the final round or not, and particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup, some of whom did very well. Just going to pre-empt this discussion

Hi there, Ktin! I thought I'd drop you a note as a courtesy. I'm promoting your nomination, Kekhashru Mistry, without its image. First of all, we're still running the non-bio shortage, and if I hold more bio hooks for image slots, the bill is going to come due later. Second, i don't agree with your reviewer's assessment (and I'll ping Joseph2302 as a courtesy as well) that this image is clear at 100px across—the image is only 217px across, which isn't nearly enough to make out the salient details in the guy's face, especially when you zoom in. Even at 100px, you can see that Mistry's face has a blurry look. I'm really sorry i couldn't take this one, but there are lots of images and waiting doesn't always guarantee that it'll be the image the promoter wants to pick. Cheers, and happy holidays :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/she) 22:36, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for this note. I am pinging Joseph2302 to see if they agree with the latter assessment i.e. regarding blurring. I would obviously like to see this image on the homepage. But, if the reviewer shares the viewpoint that this is blurry, I can understand. Regarding the former point, I will still continue to maintain the wait rather than rush this one if it meets the quality minimums. Ktin (talk) 22:41, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
I think the image looks fine, and doesn't look too blurry to me at 100px. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:52, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
Thanks Joseph2302.
@Theleekycauldron: I know this does not make your job easy. Please can you help with removing this hook from its current position and lining it up for a later date, perhaps after the holidays, when an image slot opens up. Thanks again. Ktin (talk) 18:21, 22 December 2021 (UTC)
First, I really appreciate that you're acknowledging how this affects me, and I also admire all the work you do—most of your images are pretty great. And I appreciate your flexibility quite a bit. But Ktin, work with me on this one—even when you fully zoom in, you can't make out some pretty basic features in the guy's eyes, nose, lips, hair, moustache, ears, hands, tie, and even his cricket bat. And I couldn't tell he was a person of colour, given that the lighting and greyscale makes him a pretty uniform grey in the face (around 63% brightness on average, a little on the light side). If you have a better image, I'd be happy to put it in a set—I know this is important to you. It's not unimportant to me, either. But I'd never even consider running an image of this quality if it were a white man; it's just very pixelly. I'm sorry, I think this nomination should run without its attached image. There's plenty of POC to bring to DYK, given wikipedia's biases; I look forward to running many, many more of your bios. We'll get 'em next time.
p.s. I don't own the prep sets—if some uninvolved person decides to use it in a set they build, that's not up to me. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/she) 06:16, 24 December 2021 (UTC)

My bad, I didn't see that you had started a discussion on the ITN talk page.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 03:49, 28 December 2021 (UTC)

All is good. In fact you answered the question that I had asked there. i.e. when is the right time to post. So, all's good. The article requires some updates to prose. I will get to it tomorrow if not later tonight. Cheers. Ktin (talk) 03:52, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Can you also review some of the summaries that I wrote? I'm a relatively new and casual fan of cricket, and I know there's a lot of nuance to the cricket lingo that I still haven't picked up on.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 05:08, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

DYK Rejection

Hi, you have rejected the DYK and used , File:Symbol delete vote.svg. How can I appeal against this decision. Can you just do the review again. The problems you raised were too easy to fix. It would be a shame if it goes to waste for this. Venkat TL (talk) 09:45, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

You do not have to do anything to 'appeal' against the decision. @Theleekycauldron: has marked it a 'maybe' and can be used by another reviewer who can pick it up. I also think that the Content section as it is laid out currently is poorly written, it has three paragraphs - A first paragraph that does not lead in, a second paragraph that lacks all context (who is Montesquieu? why are their views pertinent to the book?), a third paragraph that just seems to be a rehash of a supreme court judgement, with no lead-in and no context. It seems like the three paragraphs have been hastily added to get the article out of a stub denomination, because this DYK was declined. Either way, I plan to sit this one out. Theleekycauldron – please feel free to proceed as you deem fit. Good luck. Ktin (talk) 17:29, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
@Ktin, @Theleekycauldron The content section right now elaborates on one of the major themes of the book. It will make more sense when I am done. I will drop a note on the DYK page when I am ready. Venkat TL (talk) 18:07, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
all right; I'm not going to be reviewing this either, so you'll need someone else. theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/she) 19:09, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
@Theleekycauldron. Ok. So what do I need to do to find that someone to review once I am done? Venkat TL (talk) 19:11, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
well, you can ask around, but that's usually considered bad form; i'd just wait until someone else picks it up. there's no deadline for all this stuff :) theleekycauldron (talkcontribs) (they/she) 19:12, 30 December 2021 (UTC)
Ok. I will drop a note requesting for a second review on this entry. Venkat TL (talk) 19:13, 30 December 2021 (UTC)

thanks for your fair use comments

Appreciate your longer edit note on my addition of a fair use image for a recently-deceased person. I try to stay up on the rules and had no idea that there was a ballpark "six month" rule in effect here. I'll work backwards from mid-2021 and not forward from Jan 2022 in that case. Jessamyn (talk) 23:57, 6 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks Jessamyn. I think the ~6 month is more of a rough guideline but is more for the time to be spent in good faith attempting to reach out to folks off-wiki to see if an image can be obtained. That's what I learnt once from The Rambling Man. This topic is one that I am admittedly quite weak at. Good luck to you and nice meeting you. Ktin (talk) 00:17, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you! 2022 began happily with vacation. I uploaded images but stopped at 22 January - click on songs. 30 January means 10 years of Precious. It's also the birthday of a friend, - I'm so happy I mentioned his DYK on his 90th birthday when he was still alive. I have a great singer on DYK whom I heard, Elena Guseva, and wait for a Recent death appearance of Georg Christoph Biller whom I saw in action. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:49, 30 January 2022 (UTC)
