JJMC89 bot's edits

Hi, could you stop your bot from edit WP:AFC/R archive pages, such as it has here and here? Cheers Ollieinc (talk) 02:32, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

This is how you stop it. — JJMC89 02:37, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

Laurie Buchanan

The page seemed pretty noteworthy until Primefac took a lot of the citations and references out. I've built and edited many pages, I thought it would grade around a C class, at worst, a start class as it was modelled on Orinathi's page. What do you suggest my friend? JermainRobson (talk) 21:46, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

That would be because the YouTube and Facebook references were of no value. They also do not show notability since they are not independent of the subject. — JJMC89 22:00, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
(edit conflict) To avoid a decentralized discussion, I'll respond here. JermainRobson, the Claudio/McKee "references" were just links to YouTube. If her covers were notable, then they would be discussed in other places. The other reason I removed them is that it's kind of like "free advertising." I've included a link to her YouTube account, where everyone can find all of her videos (i.e. we don't need a link to every single one). Primefac (talk) 22:08, 2 April 2017 (UTC)
Okay - this is fair, y'learn something new every day. Thanks for your help! JermainRobson (talk) 01:05, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

JJMC89 bot left superfluous parameters when changing coordinates

Hi JJMC89,

thank you for running JJMC89 bot!

However, here was a tiny glitch in the infobox coordinates migrator: it left unkown parameters |N and |E. It's not a big issue because they are not visible — only when I tried to save the article I got some messages:

"Warning: Page using Template:Infobox settlement with unknown parameter "1 = N?" (this message is shown only in preview). Warning: Page using Template:Infobox settlement with unknown parameter "2 = E?" (this message is shown only in preview).

Perhaps you can check this nevertheless?

Regards --Cyfal (talk) 11:06, 1 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Cyfal. The values were not in the correct parameters. They should have been |latNS=N and |longEW=E instead of unnamed parameters. The bot does not use/remove values that are not in the correct parameters. There are too many possibilities for incorrect parameter usage for the bot to reasonably and safely handle them. — JJMC89 19:35, 1 April 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for your explanation! I now understand the problem, there are simply too many possiblities how something can be wrong... --Cyfal (talk) 17:30, 2 April 2017 (UTC)

{{decdeg}}

Not sure if your bot can be coded to do this instead of this? The template {{decdeg}} is used to convert dms values to decimal, but {{coord}} can of course handle them directly without conversion. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:16, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

One flavor of insource search finds 61 articles that use this format, which could be simplified by removing the decdeg template and using |format=dec, I believe. Maybe a bot request is in order. In other news, I find it amusing that after all of the frustration that Redrose64 has been willing to express about the minor errors in edits of other editors, that the above-linked edit converted decimal format to dms format. – Jonesey95 (talk) 21:16, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
When I added the infobox and put the coords into it, I copied those from an existing {{coord}} which had the format as dms for both input and display (and had done since it was first added two years earlier). The infobox recognised only two parameters, |latitude= and |longitude=. It had no provision for either inputting or displaying the coords in dms format, which is why I used the {{decdeg}} template.
So, my recent edit has restored the appearance of the displayed coords as it was in July 2009. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:26, 3 April 2017 (UTC)
@Redrose64: I could code the bot to deal with {{decdeg}}; however, it would be more trouble than its worth. It is easier for me to deal with them manually. I've dealt with the cases that Jonesey95 linked above. — JJMC89 03:36, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

Migration of Infobox UK place

I am sure that there is some usefulness associated with this task you are carrying out so efficiently, however it has brought to my attention that the map for Shropshire does not appear in the migrated infobox. It would be really very helpful if you could find a solution to this, I would really appreciate it! Please let me know if you do. Emerald (talk) 01:58, 4 April 2017 (UTC)

@Emerald-wiki: I don't see {{Infobox UK place}} on Shropshire, and I see a map there. Could you point to the article with the issue? — JJMC89 03:41, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
@JJMC89: Thank you for your quick response. There are many examples e.g. Gobowen, Ludlow, Ironbridge, Telford, etc. Basically any linked to 'File:Shropshire UK location map.svg' in the Infobox UK place. I hope you can find a fix for this problem. Emerald (talk) 04:55, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Emerald-wiki:: I see a location map of Shropshire with a red dot for the location on all of those pages. You might try to null edit the page (click edit, then save without making any changes). If that doesn't work, you might also try to Wikipedia:Bypass your cache. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:44, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
I did a WP:NULLEDIT at Gobowen, no improvement. The red dot sits on top of s blue link (Gobowen is located in Shropshire, that being the alt text of the map image); this link takes you to the file description page. The map should be displayed here. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 16:51, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) Gobowen looks fine to me, with red dot neatly on map. PamD 17:00, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
I have null-edited the infobox and the article and the map, just to try to resolve the problem for you. Again, the map continues to show for me. I have taken a screen shot and uploaded it at File:Screen_shot_of_Gobowen.jpg. If it is still broken, what web browser are you using? – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:27, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Firefox 52.0.2 --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 18:34, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Wasn't showing for me either, so I went onto commons and purged the image. (purge) And it's now showing. -- WOSlinker (talk) 18:49, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Yes, it is now. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:15, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks everyone, working for me now too. Sorry for wrongly suggesting the cause was the infobox migration. Emerald (talk) 10:17, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Can you extract a higher resolution logo from the bottom of page 32 (the last page) of this report? The jaggies on the current image look bad.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 00:12, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

@Jzsj:, same question for you.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 00:22, 6 April 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion but that one won't do. If you can find one that is copyable then please let me know: you can tell by right clicking and see if there's a "copy" option (which there is not on p. 32. Jzsj (talk) 03:12, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Exsite webware copyvio

I'm not sure why you are probing into my private draft article, looking for copyright infringement. Can you explain? This is only a collection of topics mentioned in other articles as I try to shape this article (which I've been working on for about 10 years). As far as I know, copyright doesn't extend to private Draft Articles, but maybe in Wikipedia it does. Are Draft Articles not private? Love to hear your thoughts on this.

FWIW, I've since tried to shape the missing topics using doggerel instead of copied topics from similar articles. That is, I've copied a useful topic, changed keywords to nonsense words which I can then flesh out with additional creative thought. Since it's a Draft, it shouldn't matter, should it? What do you think?

Many thanks, Santamoly (talk) 06:54, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

@Santamoly: Pages in the Draft namespace are subject to the same copyright laws that apply throughout Wikipedia. Also, the Draft namespace is not private: when posting there you will have been shown this message and also this one. These are not optional. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:23, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
@Santamoly: As Redrose64 has indicated, copyright violations are not permitted anywhere on Wikipedia. You violated copyright again on the draft after being warned, and the infringing content has been removed again. — JJMC89 17:40, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
JJMC89, I'm not seeing anything that has been removed "again", and the doggerel versions are still intact. Can you point me to what has been removed? Since US Copyright restrictions are so much more severe than Canadian, it's possible to offend Americans inadvertantly, and I don't want to do that since we are guests in your house, so to speak. Santamoly (talk) 04:07, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
You added the content in this edit, and I removed it in this edit. Neither edit is visible, since they were hidden from public view. — JJMC89 04:34, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
I can't see what's happening because I get the following:"You cannot view this diff because one or both of the revisions have been removed from the public archives" Santamoly (talk) 04:48, 8 April 2017 (UTC)
Like I said, the copyright infringing revisions have been hidden from the page history by an administrator. Only admins can see them. — JJMC89 04:57, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

Shahzadpur, Haryana, India

Hello, you made an orphan template on Shahzadpur, Haryana, India for not categroies, but now this page have categories, now can you please remove your template Dr Thaane Wala (talk) 21:28, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

I've adjusted the maintenance template. The article is still using unreliable sources. I've also had to remove much of the content as it was copied from copyright websites. — JJMC89 21:50, 9 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for having a look, and for helping out. I wasn't sure which version had precedence; when I ran a copyvio check it indicated a good likelihood, but I still wasn't sold. Cheers, 2601:188:1:AEA0:DD8E:74CD:FBC3:49C8 (talk) 22:10, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Sure thing 99. I'm sure you noticed that I removed the content and then restored it again. Based on the YouTube publication dates, they copied from the Wikipedia article. The article's hostory show there was some copypaste from PBS. It looks okay now. Not that there aren't other issues with that page. — JJMC89 22:48, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

More coordinates: geobox, UK place

Do you have any bandwidth to teach the bot to convert Infobox UK place, Geobox, or both? I believe that those two comprise the majority of tagged deprecated coordinates pages at this time.

It looks like there are a couple thousand Settlement pages left. I expect there are a few hundred edge cases that the bot should leave alone, but many of them right now are pages where Infobox settlement is transcluded in another template. Thanks for all of your hard work on this project. – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:51, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

Geobox will require a new complex substitution wrapper or a special fork of the bot script. I think the latter will be easier. I may have time to work on it this weekend, but no promises. I could start the bot on Infobox UK place; however, I think the template needs an adjustment first. Currently the coords are only displayed in the title, not the infobox, and if someone uses {{coord|...|display=inline,title}}, the coords will appear at the top of the article, outside the infobox. I think they should be displayed in the infobox as well. Thoughts? — JJMC89 16:47, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
Before I updated the documentation for UK place, it said Note that by default, the coordinates are displayed to the right of the title, at the top of the page. This can cause an error if there is more than one set of coordinates in the article. To override the display in the title, use |coordinates_display=inline. As far as I can tell, setting coordinates_display to "inline" completely hides the old coordinates, which the documentation could have been clearer about. I used {{coord}} with display=inline, title in User:Jonesey95/sandbox3, and it shows in both places as expected. I'm thinking that I don't fully understand this one yet. I can't work on it right now, though. – Jonesey95 (talk) 17:29, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
I missed a set of }} when I was reading the template code. It should be OK as is; however, |coordinates={{coord|...|display=inline}} won't hide the coordinates in the infobox like |coordinates_display=inline does. — JJMC89 18:44, 31 March 2017 (UTC)
|coordinates_display=inline should never have hidden the coordinates in the first place; that's contrary to the definition of "inline". It should have displayed them in the infobox. This is one of the many consistencies we are introducing with these painstaking changes to infoboxes. Editors should expect all of them to work in essentially the same way. We have made a lot of progress while only breaking a few things (temporarily) along the way, and based on the very civil responses to our occasional errors or failures to notice quirks in idiosyncratic infoboxes, editors appear to understand that we are making this little corner of en.WP a better place. – Jonesey95 (talk) 19:53, 31 March 2017 (UTC)

If the bot can run through the whole category using the scripts that have already been set up, it should be able to fix a few thousand articles. There are a bunch of new "island" and "settlement" articles, and other stragglers that have shown up since the bot made its initial pass through already-fixed infoboxes. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:10, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

I've started the bot on this. — JJMC89 17:15, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Something went wrong

here, here, ... and at least 20 more. Frietjes (talk) 20:29, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing those, Frietjes. It looks like the substitution wrappers that the bot uses defaults to 0s when only the direction is provided. {{subst:Geobox coor/sandbox3}} is used for {{Infobox NRHP}}. — JJMC89 01:55, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Script error

Hi JJMC, Could you please help me to fix Module:Location map's coord2text problem on Bengali wikipedia. See the problem here. Because of this, 200+ pages showing script error. --Aftabuzzaman (talk) 17:35, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

Sorry Aftabuzzaman, I don't know enough about the involved modules to figure out what is going on. Jc86035 knows more about them. — JJMC89 00:15, 22 April 2017 (UTC)
It might be because bnwiki uses different characters for minutes and seconds, since coord2text or whatever searches for them in parsing |coordinates=. Jc86035 (talk) Use {{re|Jc86035}}
