WP:ENGVAR Follow-up
This probably seems a bit trivial to bring up at this point, but it's been bothering me for a while. I'd like to thank you for your feedback five years ago concerning my edit of Animal Farm. I appreciate the correction and acknowledge that you were totally correct to both revert the change and notify me of the relevant policy to prevent further offenses. That said, I'd like to clarify that I was unaware of an alternate spelling of the word "s(c/k)eptical," and to let you know that such mistakes can and will arise even when users are cognizant of WP:MOS. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Meatius Pizzus (talk) 20:52, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for coming to me with your concern! I'm glad this isn't a situation where I need to try to put myself back in whatever mindset I might have been in five years ago. :p
- I re-read the template message, and I don't feel it makes a presumption as to whether the editor it's being left for knew that alternate spellings existed...indeed I suspect in many cases editors don't know that alternate spellings exist, and think they're improving an article when in reality they're doing the opposite. Typically, if a word goes back and worth enough times, editors might insert an inline note to advise well-meaning future editors that the spelling currently in use is (hopefully) the correct one.
- In any case, I certainly don't make any assumptions either way when I leave the template, unless an incorrect edit has been made in a case where there was an inline note. If the language of the template concerns you though, you'd be welcome to start a discussion at the Talk page for the template suggesting what you feel would be better wording!
- Otherwise, if your concern is just about the existence of the notice on your page, you're welcome to delete it. The presumption when an editor deletes anything from their Talk page is that they have read/understood it, and don't feel there's any reason it needs to be kept around.
- I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any questions! DonIago (talk) 21:10, 1 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! Where would I find the template I'm looking for, if you don't mind me asking? Meatius Pizzus (talk) 21:08, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- Here you go: Template:Uw-engvar. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 23:56, 2 December 2023 (UTC)

Lazy Jones and Nena's 99 Luftballons
Why did you remove my addition to Lazy Jones music section? Citation??? The "citation" is to play the game and listen with your ears open, or you could go to YouTube and watch a play-through. 2001:14BB:A5:4BFA:88BF:E40E:789B:3 (talk) 15:05, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- That would be original research. You need a source to establish that the music is actually used in the game. DonIago (talk) 15:16, 11 December 2023 (UTC)

Removal of my edits to Marnie.
Hi Doniago. My edits were--as I recall--four or five sentences, and I believe important to understanding the central conflict in the film. The existing statement "Mark initially respects her wishes, but it is implied that he rapes her offscreen" completely mischaracterizes what's going on in their dynamic, and such casting of Hitchcock interpolating "an unnecessary rape" has created controversy with the film in recent years. Mark does not attack her violently, as implied by that statement (though he does act like an unsensitive male of 1960s entitlement). Yes, it is "rape" in the sense that he has sex with her without her consent, but what's happening there is she reveals to him that she has faked her attraction to him and that she finds sex repulsive and he has lost patience with trying to woo her and has sex with her without consent when she freezes under his insistence. This is the central conflict in the relationship that is missing from the plot summary: he is fascinated by her "predatory behavior" (as he expresses in his discussion of "female predators" in zoology, his academic field) and she is repelled by all men due to her childhood trauma in ways she doesn't fully understand. I don't see how adding 5 sentences "creates unnecessary detail", especially when it is at the very center of the revisionist controversy of this previously underrated film that has gained some respect in recent years, at the same time that others have dismissed it unfairly because of the "rape scene." Ariadne000 (talk) 00:39, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- WP:FILMPLOT is very clear that plot summaries for film articles generally should not exceed 700 words. Your additions brought the summary up to 721 words. You're welcome to find alternate wording that will keep the summary below the guideline, perhaps by making changes elsewhere in the summary. Or, if you feel there's no reasonable alternative but to waive the guideline, you're welcome to start a discussion at the Talk page for the article, though in my experience editors rarely feel that that guideline should be waived. I hope this helps. DonIago (talk) 00:42, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- OMG, 21 words over the "limit"--actually "guidance." Might you be a tad rigid? Ariadne000 (talk) 00:45, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- It's a pretty bright-line (and easy to follow) guideline that many film editors take pretty seriously...in fact, some would prefer the limit be reduced to 400 words. So no, I don't think so. The tone of your reaction suggests that you're personally offended by the fact that it was your edits that were reverted, so I might suggest that you instead look at this as an opportunity to increase the overall quality of the summary by making it more concise. No, I am not at all "personally offended" by your comments. This is a film I have liked since I was a child and I think recent misinterpretations of that "rape scene" specifically do it an injustice.
I also see plenty of plot summaries that go beyond 700 words and I do think 721 words is nitpicking. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariadne000 (talk • contribs) 00:55, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- As I said above, if you feel the additions you wish to make are key to a reader's understanding of the film, and you cannot find any way to bring the word-count for the summary into compliance with the guideline otherwise, you are welcome to start a discussion at the article's Talk page to see what other editors think. DonIago (talk) 01:04, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- I have revised my changes to fit within the limit. The plot summary now stands at 673 words. Please be flexible.
I had no idea I was interjecting myself into your issues with Dratman.
Ariadne000 (talk) 01:26, 18 December 2023 (UTC)
- FWIW, I'm not aware of having any issues with Dratman. Your edits look good; thanks for understanding my concerns! DonIago (talk) 02:03, 18 December 2023 (UTC)

Undo of List of films set in a single location
Thank you for your notice. I accept that UGC content found at IMDb is not acceptable and hence undoing the IMDb link at the last edit of List of films set in a single location. I have readded the two content rows in the table however, because they were not sourced from IMDb (they are not even present in the linked list, had you opened the link to check). -bkil (talk) 22:12, 16 January 2024 (UTC)
