RFPP request
[edit]Hi - just want to let you know that I didn't protect the talk page. Instead, I hardblocked the user in question as a spam-promotional account, meaning that the IP address he used is autoblocked and he can't create a new account without appealing. I won't be able to respond to the block appeal since I blocked him, but I doubt another admin will unblock since he's already made his intentions known. He wasn't vandalizing, but he was clearly here to push an agenda. I think he thought he could insert his desired content if he talked somebody else into doing it. If another account starts doing the same thing, let me know. Thanks. :-) KrakatoaKatie 00:42, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

How many times do I have to revert vandalism, before I can be a Rollbacker? Breawycker (talk) 13:58, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
- Usually a few months of work that includes some reverting vandalism and other contributions that show you understand the difference between good-faith edits, mistakes and actual vandalism are all that's needed. You also need to make sure that you are warning vandals as you revert and reporting them to WP:AIV when necessary. There are also automated tools (like WP:Twinkle) that can help you with reverting and warning if you need a bit more time at it. Shell babelfish 15:51, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
It wasn't my contribution that was reverted. I just added an interwiki. You should recheck the list of edits to find the real culpit. Atlantia (talk) 17:42, 10 January 2011 (UTC)

Reviewer permission
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged revisions, underwent a two-month trial which ended on 15 August 2010. Its continued use is still being discussed by the community, you are free to participate in such discussions. Many articles still have pending changes protection applied, however, and the ability to review pending changes continues to be of use.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under level 1 pending changes and edits made by non-reviewers to level 2 pending changes protected articles (usually high traffic articles). Pending changes was applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't grant you status nor change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 21:37, 11 January 2011 (UTC)
Rollback
[edit]Hello, per your request, I've granted you Rollback rights! Just remember:
- Rollback gives you access to certain scripts, including Huggle and Igloo, some of which can be very powerful, so exercise caution
- Rollback is only for blatant vandalism
- Having Rollback rights does not give you any special status or authority
- Misuse of Rollback can lead to its removal by any administrator
- Please read Help:Reverting and Wikipedia:Rollback feature to get to know the workings of the feature
- You can test Rollback at Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback
- You may wish to display the {{User wikipedia/rollback}} userbox and/or the {{Rollback}} top icon on your user page
- If you have any questions, please do let me know.

Level 1 warning re. vandalism on Albert Ball ???
[edit]Hi Fantastic Brain (hummm) warning ??? vandalism ???? :-(
All I did was add my own Photo of his VC & the location of the Albert Ball memorial homes. If you believe this warrants a warning or is an act of vandalism I don't believe you are operating in the spirit of Wikipedia.
Please revert back to the previous edit, you are for more experienced that I but surely my edits add to the page If you can fit it into the article I will remove the warning from your page. Ok?--Breawycker (talk) 18:38, 16 January 2011 (UTC) ~Photo of the medals next to the Other awards list & Google Earth link next to the eight homes in Lenton, not too sure how I can fit this is better... Premature move
[edit]You prematurely moved Spider-Man (film series). In future please refrain from moving pages while discussion is still in progress. Requests are generally processed after seven days, although backlogs often develop. If there is a clear consensus after this time, the request will be closed and acted upon. If not, the closer may choose to re-list the request to allow time for consensus to develop, or close it as "no consensus". The processes involved in closing requests, performing moves and necessary tidying tasks when a move is performed can be viewed at closing instructions. Edit to Tom Allen Bio
[edit]I am questioning why my edit deleting the reference to other elections was undone? The reference is irrelevant--the article is about Tom Allen, not about the 2008 national elections--he was taking on a popular incumbent, so it was always an uphill battle. The point of saying he lost while others elsewhere won "overwhelmingly" is what? Seems like a sly dig at him. As I said initially, it's POV and needs to be gone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.241.219.250 (talk) 01:50, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Careful there.... (re Nicole Miller)
[edit]Please take a little bit more care with that shiny new rollback button, your reversion here [1] reinserted a copyright violation into the article, an issue which was indicated in the previous edit summary. Mistakes happen, not trying to be a pain about this, just a friendly "hey!". Have a great weekend! (Oh, and if I've got this all wrong, lemme know.) Cheers! --j⚛e deckertalk 19:39, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
While you may have reverted the IP because you thought it was vandalism, I reverted it because it was factually incorrect. I provided both an edit summary and commented on the article's discussion page. There was no justification for you to revert my edit w/o you first joining the discussion. - You shouldn't be restoring those warnings—it's against WP:BLANKING, which explicitly allows anybody to remove any content from their own talk page, even warnings and block notices. The only exception is declined unblock requests while the relevant block is in effect. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:10, 26 January 2011 (UTC)
about the last warning
[edit]As you might have seen on this IP's talk page, this is a Toronto library computer--an express computer that's on for 15 minutes before the next "client" uses it. Suffice to say, I'm not the vandal for the trumpet article. I also noticed that while the IP address is the same, I've seen this IP on a different computer at a different library branch. If you are doing a block, I suggest less than 30 hours. Hope that helps. :-) 205.189.194.208 (talk) 18:02, 27 January 2011 (UTC)

Yamaha DX1 article question and your involvement
[edit]Breawycker why did you revert the Yamaha DX1[2] article? Did you discuss this first or just did because of what? Do you own a DX-1? Do you have any information on a DX-1? It helps.
I just wrote an update and you just choose to erase that information. Why? I am not paid to edit, I do this on my spear time to update the article. The sources of imformation came from me as I contributed a great deal of time to provide sources and information and when someone erases it like that, I question why. So made you choose to do this? Do you have links of sources and etc information I can verify your revert edit?--Globalstatus (talk) 22:17, 13 February 2011 (UTC) Sorry about, that that was the revert that i regretted, but I can't do anything about it until the 20th. Your recent RFA
[edit]I am sorry, but I have closed your Request for adminship prematurely. Simply put, you only have 1509 edits on Wikipedia; while your edit count isn't the only determining factor, and numerous people have their own personal standards by which they judge RfA candidates, this particular RfA was all but assured of not passing.
I am sorry about this, and I hope you don't take it personally. If you continue to contribute to the project in a positive fashion, I am confident that you would be able to submit a successful RfA in the future. You may wish to consider applying for an evaluation by other Wikipedia editors for feedback on how to obtain the necessary experience. Once you are ready to request adminship again, there is a great admin coaching program available, as well as a guide to requests for adminship.

- Your edits reverted vandalism, which would have been visible in the left side of the diff. Deleting your edit summary wasn't really proper, since it doesn't fall under any of the criteria for redaction, but I suppose MuZemike wanted to remove all evidence of the vandalism. It would normally imply that MuZemike considered that your edit summary was "purely disruptive", "grossly insulting", or met one the other criteria, however. File permission problem with File:Amber Riley at the 2011 NAACP Image awards.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Amber Riley at the 2011 NAACP Image awards.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-enwikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Armbrust Talk to me Contribs 00:26, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Percy Jackson Task Force Roll Call
[edit]Hey Breawycker! Thanks for being a part of the Percy Jackson Task Force here on Wikipedia. We're cleaning up our list of members; the project would like to make sure all members listed are participating. Therefore, we're holding a roll call for the members of the Percy Jackson Task Force and appreciate your help by acting quickly. Before you confirm your membership, you'll want to look over the obligations for members. In order to remain a member, you must:
- Contribute to the current PJTF collaboration and Percy Jackson articles constructively. A minimum of 10 (constructive) edits on Percy Jackson topics per month is required for members.
- Be generally active in the affairs of the WikiProject (watchlist and participate in the General Forums, vote at AfDs, keep up with vandalism, and more).
If you wish to confirm your membership just go to this page and move your username from "Pending" to "Active" and remember to be involved.
Additionally, consider adding {{WP:PJTF/Update}} and {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Outreach/User Percy Jackson task force}} to your userpage for project updates and to show off your membership. We hope you're still active and interested, as the Percy Jackson Task Force is looking for more contributions from members. Also, check out ways to help the project. Thanks!

Talk:Homosexuality edit protected request
[edit]This is a leading candidate for the most unhelpful response you could possibly have given that user. As an IP editor he/she obviously can't edit the article because it's semi-protected, but used the wrong template ({{edit protected}} instead of {{edit semi-protected}}) to request an edit. Would it not have been better to just answer the edit request, rather than just stating that the wrong template was used and moving on? – Steel 01:55, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

The Ashkenazim Bias on Wikipedia
[edit]The downplaying of the Sephardi and the inability to be balanced on the issue of Zionism and Israel disgusts me. AshkeNAZI are NOT HEBREW PEOPLE and ISRAEL is no friend of the legitimate descendents of Abraham. You know it. I know it. Yahweh knows it. Allow people to provide proof that Zionism is a cancer to this planet, if you are to challenge them to do so. Not allowing the link because you are not a provider of links is a poor excuse to a highly biased and corrupt website. People are unable to provide proof to your challenges, not because it doesn't exist, but because you, in your little position of power, refuse to allow it, under the guise of technicalities and policy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.16.153.85 (talk) 05:24, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

I am new to the article creation/editing side of Wikipedia, and am eager to learn the ropes, so thank you for the feedback. I'm somewhat unclear about the issues noted (though I have followed and read all the hyperlinked material), so allow me to ask a few questions:
- If my username seems to imply that I am the same person that created the free, open-source software (VisualLangLab) that is the subject of the article requested to be moved, that is correct. However, the article's language merely abbreviates claims already on the website, and shouldn't be construed as advertising -- not any more than Wikepedia articles like JavaCC and ANTLR (which also feature other free, open-source software tools in the same category).
- However, I do understand the violation of the COI policy, and would like to ask what my options are. I can state my affiliation with the VisualLangLab website on my User page as suggested, but would that be adequate (I do understand that the eventual content of the article will be determined by consensus among a group of editors)? Or do I just allow this page to be deleted, and then request someone else to create an article with the same name?
Thank you very much for your help with this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sanjaydasgupta54 (talk • contribs) 02:00, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hey there. Although I'm not related to the message Breawycker put on your talk, I can help you with it. The statement of your COI on your userpage, and possibly at any reviews the article undergoes later in its life (see WP:GAN for example) is a good idea. When writing your article, which looks ok at a first, quick glance, try to pause after every few paragraphs and read it over. If it sounds like a sales pitch (Only one tap of a button! Free microwave oven if you buy now!), then you should consider rewriting it to remove the ad-like atmosphere. Try basing it off of Java CC, for example. Remember to add a variety of reliable sources. If you need any more help, ping me on my talk page. Buggie111 (talk) 02:26, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

- Yellow Evan (submissions)
- Miyagawa (submissions)
- Wizardman (submissions)
- Casliber (submissions)
- Resolute (submissions)

Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.
- The Featured Article Award: Casliber (submissions), for his performance in round 2. Hurricanehink (submissions) matched the score, but Casliber won the tiebreaker.
- The Good Article Award: Yellow Evan (submissions), for his performance in round 4.
- The Featured List Award: Miyagawa (submissions), for his performance in round 4. PresN (submissions) matched the score, but Miyagawa won the tiebreaker.
- The Recognised Topic Award (for good and featured topics): PresN (submissions), for his performance in round 3.
- The Did You Know Award: The Bushranger (submissions), for his performance in round 1.
- The In the News Award: Candlewicke (submissions), for his performance in round 1.
- The Reviewer Award (for good article reviews): Wizardman (submissions), for his performance in round 3.
No prize was awarded for featured pictures, sounds or portals, as none were claimed throughout the competition. The awards will be handed out over the next few days. Congratulations to all our participants, and especially our winners; we've all had fun, and Wikipedia has benefitted massively from our content work.
Preparation for next year's WikiCup is ongoing. Interested parties are invited to sign up and participate in our straw polls. It's been a pleasure to work with you all this year, and, whoever's taking part in and running the competition in 2012, we hope to see you all in January! [edit]... for the cookie. And for reading what I wrote and not just ignoring it, I appreciate that. I know that fighting vandalism is a highly necessary and at the same time not always pleasant task, so I know you do important work. Yet it is not the first time that I feel that here in the English Wikipedia (as compared to the German one, which I know better), some things work in a very bureaurocratic way, which can easily scare new editors off. Anyway, where I live it's time to go to sleep, so I'll do that. :-) Cheers, 84.75.56.169 (talk) 23:48, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

We'll be trying to reduce the backlog size by over 1,000 articles and we need your help! Hard-working participants in the drive will receive awards for their contributions, including a brand new one for the single largest wikified article! All you have to do is put an asterisk next to the largest article you've wikified, and coordinators will check its wordcount after the drive ends. GOCE drive newsletter
[edit] Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We would like to thank all who participated in this drive. Here is the end-of-drive report.
There were 48 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 35 participated. Thank you to everyone who helped reduce the size of the backlog!
During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 232 articles, or by about 6%. This is a two percent increase from our September drive, when we copy edited 4% of the backlog. We were successful in our primary goal of clearing the oldest three months—March, April, and May 2010—from the queue. Thanks to all who helped copy edit these difficult articles. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 5086 articles, or by about 61%. End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.
The term of our second tranche of coordinators has run out, and we will be accepting nominations from December 5, 00:01 UTC to December 15, 23:59 UTC. If you or any other member of the Guild of Copy Editors wishes to be a coordinator, add your name to this page along with a statement describing why you believe you should be a coordinator for the Guild. You must be able to commit to a six month term. Thanks! Once again, thank you for participating in the Guild's November 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Our next drive will be in January, and we hope to see you there! Your drive coordinators – Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02 and SMasters |

Stop deleting images of mollusks without contacting the WikiProject Gastropods group and ASKING[edit]Not to be disrespectful, but please do not interfere with the images being uploaded by this new editor. I know that you think that you are being helpful by your deletions, but you are not. The images in the Cone snail articles which you deleted were just recently uploaded (less than a day or two ago) by a brand new editor who is being watched and mentored. Your "help" will end up discouraging him at absolutely the wrong time - when he needs to be encouraged and feel good about his work. The new editor in question has over 2300 images he can help WikiProject Gastropods with, a huge and valuable assistance. What needed to be done was for the images to be given proper captions. The different images are meant to reflect the variability of the species - something unique to living creatures rather than manufactured items. Mollusks are not like postage stamps, so having multiple images which show the variation in shape and color is extremely important. I have replaced the images in question and given the images captions to reflect that the image is to show variation in the species. The new editor is just learning, and deleting his work may have a strong negative influence rather than a positive one. Let us police our own. Thank you. At the time of writing, we have 112 contestants; comparable to last year, but slightly fewer than 2010. Signups will remain open for another week, after which time they will be closed for this year. Our currrent far-away leader is Grapple X (submissions), due mostly to his work on a slew of good articles about The X-Files; there remain many such articles waiting to be reviewed at good article candidates. Second place is currently held by Ruby2010 (submissions), whose points come mostly from good articles about television episodes, although good article reviews, did you knows and an article about a baroness round out the score. In third place is Jivesh boodhun (submissions), who has scored 200 points for his work on a single featured article, as well as points for work on others, mostly in the area of pop music. In all, nine users have 100 or more points. However, at the other end of the scale, there are still dozens of participants who are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly! The 64 highest scoring participants will advance to round 2 in a month's time. There, they will be split into eight random groups of eight. The score needed to reach the next round is not at all clear; last year, 8 points guaranteed a place. The year before, 20. A few participants and their work warrant a mention for achieving "firsts" in this competition.
We are yet to see any featured lists, featured topics or good topics, but this is unsurprising; firstly, the nomination processes with each of these can take some time, and, secondly, it can take a considerable amount of time to work content to this level. In a similar vein, we have seen only one featured article. The requirement that content must have been worked on this year to be eligible means that we did not expect to see these at the start of the competition. No points have been claimed for featured portals or pictures, but these are not content types which are often claimed; the former has never made a big impact on the WikiCup, while the latter has not done so since 2009's competition. A quick rules clarification before the regular notices: If you are concerned that another user is claiming points inappropriately, please contact a judge to take a look at the article. Competitors policing one another can create a bad atmosphere, and may lead to inconsistencies and mistakes. Rest assured that we, the judges, are making an effort to check submissions, but it is possible that we will miss something. On a loosely related note: If you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages, or by email. Good luck! Delivered by MessageDeliveryBot on behalf of WikiProject Images and Media at 07:37, 29 February 2012 (UTC). WikiCup 2012 February newsletter[edit]Round 1 is already over! The 64 highest scorers have progressed to round 2. Our highest scorer was Grapple X (submissions), again thanks mostly to a swathe of good articles on The X-Files. In second place was Tigerboy1966 (submissions), thanks an impressive list of did you knows about racehorses. Both scored over 400 points. Following behind with over 300 points were Ruby2010 (submissions), Cwmhiraeth (submissions), Miyagawa (submissions) and Casliber (submissions). February also saw the competition's first featured list: List of colleges and universities in North Dakota, from Ruby2010 (submissions). At the other end of the scale, 11 points was enough to secure a place in this round, and some contestants with 10 points made it into the round on a tiebreaker. This is higher than the 8 points that were needed last year, but lower than the 20 points required the year before. The number of points required to progress to round 3 will be significantly higher. The remaining contestants have been split into 8 pools of 8, named A through H. Round two will finish in two months time on 28 April, when the two highest scorers in each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers, will progress to round 3. The pools were entirely random, so while some pools may end up being more competitive than others, this is by chance rather than design. The judges would like to point out two quick rules reminders. First, any content promoted during the interim period (that is, on or after 27 February) is eligible for points in round 2. Second, any content worked on significantly this year is eligible for points if promoted in this round. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAC, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which would otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! New Page Triage engagement strategy released[edit]Hey guys! I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyeswikimedia.org. It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Thanks to all of you who have commented on the New Page Triage talkpage. If you haven't had a chance yet, check it out; we're discussing some pretty interesting ideas, both from the Foundation and the community, and moving towards implementing quite a few of them :). In addition, on Tuesday 13th March, we're holding an office hours session in #wikimedia-office on IRC at 19:00 UTC (11am Pacific time). If you can make it, please do; we'll have a lot of stuff to show you and talk about, including (hopefully) a timetable of when we're planning to do what. If you can't come, for whatever reason, let me know on my talkpage and I'm happy to send you the logs so you can get an idea of what happened :). I appreciate this isn't quite what you signed up for, but I figured as people who are already pretty good at evaluating whether material is useful or not useful through Special:NewPages, you might be interested :). Over the last few months we've been developing the new Article Feedback Tool, which features a free text box. it is imperative that we work out in advance what proportion of feedback is useful or not so we can adjust the design accordingly and not overwhelm you with nonsense. This is being done through the Feedback Evaluation System (FES), a tool that lets editors run through a stream of comments, selecting their value and viability, so we know what type of design should be promoted or avoided. We're about to start a new round of evaluations, beginning with an office hours session tomorrow at 18:00 UTC. If you'd like to help preemptively kill poor feedback, come along to #wikimedia-office and we'll show you how to use the tool. If you can't make it, send me an email at okeyeswikimedia.org or drop a note on my talkpage, and I'm happy to give you a quick walkthrough in a one-on-one session :). PAGEANT THE DOCUMENTARY[edit]Hi-----I don't understand why you declined my submission? It has reliable relevant sources, materials. I've checked it against several documentaries that came out recently GOD IS THE BIGGER ELVIS, WHICH WAY HOME, a couple of Michael MOORE's and in fact, I have more sources than some and done the same way. Please help me because I followed the format in the wiki pages to make the footnotes and I don't understand where the problem is? Grapple X (submissions), of Pool B, is our highest overall scorer thanks to his prolific writings on television and film. In second place is Pool H's Cwmhiraeth (submissions), thanks primarily to work on biological articles, especially in marine biology and herpetology. Third place goes to Pool E's Casliber (submissions), who also writes primarily on biology (including ornithology and botany) and has already submitted two featured articles this round. Of the 63 contestants remaining, 15 (just under a quarter) have over 100 points this round. However, 25 are yet to score. Please remember to update your submission pages promptly. 32 contestants, the top two from each pool and the 16 next-highest scorers, will advance to round 3. Congratulations to Matthewedwards (submissions), whose impressive File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg became the competition's first featured picture. Also, congratulations to 12george1 (submissions), who claimed good topic points, our first contestant this year to do so, for his work on Wikipedia:Featured topics/1982 Atlantic hurricane season. This leaves featured topics and featured portals as the only sources of points not yet utilised. However, as recent statistics from Miyagawa (submissions) show, no source has yet been utilised this competition to the same extent it has been previously! It has been observed that the backlogs at good article candidates are building up again. While the points for good article reviews will be remaining constant, any help that can be offered keeping the backlog down would be appreciated. On a related note, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Big update on what the developers have been working on, and what is coming up: coding
All other elements are either undergoing research, or about to have development started. I appreciate this sounds like we've not got through much work, and truthfully we're a bit disappointed with it as well; we thought we'd be going at a faster pace :(. Unfortunately there seems to be some 24-72 hour bug sweeping the San Francisco office at the moment, and at one time or another we've had several devs out of it. It's kind of messed with workflow. Stuff to look at We've got a pair of new mockups to comment on that deal with the filtering mechanism; this is a slightly updated mockup of the list view, and this is what the filtering tab is going to look like. All thoughts, comments and suggestions welcome on the NPT talkpage :). I'd also like to thank the people who came to our last two office hours sessions; the logs will be shortly available here. I've also just heard that the first functional prototype for enwiki will be deployed mid-April! Really, really stoked to see this happening :). We're finding out if we can stick something up a bit sooner on prototype.wiki or something. I appreciate there may be questions or suggestions where I've said "I'll find out and get back to you" and then, uh. not ;p. I sincerely apologise for that: things have been a bit hectic at this end over the last few weeks. But if you've got anything I've missed, drop me a line and I'll deal with it! Meanwhile, if you're in the U.S. then you are eligible for a C-SPAN baseball cap; if you're interested, I'd be happy to arrange it. You can email me using my address listed in the sidebar. Cheers, WWB Too (talk) 12:24, 27 April 2012 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for April 28[edit]Hi. When you recently edited WWU Women's Rowing, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Varsity (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject. It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. WikiCup 2012 April newsletter[edit]Round 2 of this year's WikiCup is over, and so we are down to our final 32, in what could be called our quarter-finals. The two highest scorers from each pool, as well as the next 16 highest scorers overall, have entered round 3, while 30 participants have been eliminated. Pool B's Grapple X (submissions) remains our top scorer with over 700 points; he continues to gain high numbers of points for his good articles on The X-Files, but also Millennium and other subjects. He has also gained points for a good topic, a featured list, multiple good article reviews and several did you knows. Pool E's Casliber (submissions) was second, thanks primarily to his biology articles, with Pool H's Muboshgu (submissions) coming in third, with an impressive 46 did you knows, mostly on the subject of baseball. Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both scored over 600 points. Pools E and H proved our most successful, with each seeing 5 members qualify for round 3, while Pools C and D were the least, with each seeing only 3 reach round 3. However, it was Pool G which saw the lowest scoring, with a little under 400 points combined; Pool H, the highest scoring group, saw over triple that score. 65 points was the lowest qualifying score for round 3; significantly higher than the 11 required to enter round 2, and also higher than the 41 required to reach round 3 last year. However, in 2010, 100 points were needed to secure a place in round 3. 16 will progress to round 4. In round 3, 150 points was the 16th highest score, though, statistically, people tend to up their game a little in later rounds. Last year, 76 points secured a place, while in 2010, a massive 250 points were needed. Guessing how many points will be required is not easy. We still have not seen any featured portals or topics this year, but, on the subject of less common content types, a small correction needs to be made to the previous newsletter: File:Wacht am Rhein map (Opaque).svg, our first featured picture, was the work of both Matthewedwards (submissions) and Grandiose (submissions), the latter of whom has also gone on to score with File:Map of the Battle of Guam, 1944.svg. Bonus points also continue to roll in; this round, Ealdgyth (submissions) earned triple points for her good articles on William the Conqueror and the Middle Ages, Casliber and Cwmhiraeth both earned triple points for their work on Western Jackdaw, now a good article, Dana Boomer (submissions) earned triple points for her work on lettuce and work by Stone (submissions) to ready antimony for good article status earned him triple points. Jarry1250 (submissions) managed to expand Vitus Bering far enough for a did you know, which was also worth triple points. All of these highly important topics featured on 50 or more Wikipedias at the start of the year. An article on the WikiCup in the Wikimedia Blog, "Improving Wikipedia with friendly competition", was posted at the end of April. This may be of interest to those who are signed up to this newsletter, as well as serving as another way to draw attention to our project. Also, we would again like to thank Jarry1250 (submissions) and Stone (submissions), for continued help behind the scenes. As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination, be it at good article candidates, a featured process or anywhere else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start receiving or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. New Pages update[edit]Hey Breawycker/Archive (all) :). A quick update on how things are going with the New Page Triage/New Pages Feed project. As the enwiki page notes, the project is divided into two chunks: the "list view" (essentially an updated version of Special:NewPages) and the "article view", a view you'll be presented with when you open up individual articles that contains a toolbar with lots of options to interact with the page - patrolling it, adding maintenance tags, nominating it for deletion, so on. On the list view front, we're pretty much done! We tried deploying it to enwiki, in line with our Engagement Strategy on Wednesday, but ran into bugs and had to reschedule - the same happened on Thursday :(. We've queued a new deployment for Monday PST, and hopefully that one will go better. If it does, the software will be ready to play around with and test by the following week! :). On the article view front, the developers are doing some fantastic work designing the toolbar, which we're calling the "curation bar"; you can see a mockup here. A stripped-down version of this should be ready to deploy fairly soon after the list view is; I'm afraid I don't have precise dates yet. When I have more info, or can unleash everyone to test the list view, I'll let you know :). As always, any questions to the talkpage for the project or mine. Thanks! --Breawycker (talk to me!) 20:44, 20 May 2012 (UTC) New Page Triage/New Pages Feed[edit]Hey all :). A notification that the prototype for the New Pages Feed is now live on enwiki! We had to briefly take it down after an unfortunate bug started showing up, but it's now live and we will continue developing it on-site. The page can be found at Special:NewPagesFeed. Please, please, please test it and tell us what you think! Note that as a prototype it will inevitably have bugs - if you find one not already mentioned at the talkpage, bring it up and I'm happy to carry it through to the devs. The same is true of any additions you can think of to the software, or any questions you might have - let me know and I'll respond.
