I just can't fathom it...
Hi there, Bkonrad. I noticed you removed this. Yes, I know it's in the wiktionary link. But how is one meant to guess at the figurative meaning of that word? The article, as it stands, is a (disambiguation) page and thus not all about "the unit of measurement". Should there be a new entry, under "Other uses", which includes a link to understanding or comprehension? What's the exact rule here? How much overlap is allowed between what's shown on the page and what's hidden in wikt? Where are any criteria laid out? Is the reader meant to look at all the DAB items defined and then, if still baffled, open the wikt link as a last resort? Many thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 17:41, 3 July 2017 (UTC)
- Well, the basic set of guidelines are in WP:DAB and WP:MOSDAB. The general principle is that each entry should link to an article that describes the ambiguous usage (i.e., WP:DABMENTION). There is explicit guidance to not include dictionary definitions WP:DABDIC. older ≠ wiser 17:58, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

B&B dabs
Thanks for the clean-up. There's an option on the dab tool that says something like "intentional link to dab page", which is what I was clicking on those links. Next time I go do some dab-fixes, when I click on that, I'll check to see what happens. Apologies for causing you so much work. Onel5969 TT me 01:40, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

Justice Bond
Can you explain your revision? “Justice Bond” is only mention in one of the articles, Henry Whitelaw Bond. Papí • talk 01:58, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Edit warring on Bond
Regarding your edit warring on the Bond disambiguation page, disambiguation pages are not search indexes but rather to list different Wikipedia articles of the same name or a similar name.
Just because something has “bond” in it doesn’t mean that it should be listed on the disambiguation page for “bond.” That’s what {{In title}} is for. (See WP:PTM.) Papí • talk 12:03, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
- And there are things which may be known as "bond" that for various reasons are titled with natural disambiguation. Ambiguous topics should be included on the disambiguation page. older ≠ wiser 12:08, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
- Bond of Association, “bond of manrent,” Bond v The Queen, Bond v. United States, “bail bond agent,” etc. are never referred to as just “bond,” so they shouldn’t be included on the disambiguation page, per WP:PTM. Papí • talk 12:12, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
- Au contraire, I'm not sure about Bond of Association (and don't particularly care about that one), manrent has a number of statements referring to it as "bond". And it is commonplace shorthand to abbreviate court case by the principal litigant. And I have rephrased the entry for bail bond agent to more clearly identify the ambiguous term as bail bond. At least in the U.S., in the context of court proceedings, this is a very common usage. older ≠ wiser 12:19, 9 July 2017 (UTC)
I'm beholden to remind you of WP:3RR in this mess of reverts on Bond and Hearthstone. Papi has also been warned. -- ferret (talk) 00:42, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Hi there,
I'm quiet new at wikipedia, if I'm not doing something 100% right, can you explain to me what it is?
I tried to add the urban artist Beast to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast and you removed it.
Do you think it shouldn't be under contemporary art? Do you think it needs more references?
All that is doable.
Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by FAA4891 (talk • contribs) 21:39, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- Disambiguation pages require a navigable blue link to an existing article that contains verifiable information about the topic of the entry. The entry you added [1] had only a red link (and it also broke the overall organizational structure by inserting extra headings that made it appear the various music subcategories were now under "Contemporary Art". older ≠ wiser 21:57, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Ok thanks for the swift update,
I will try to copy the formatting from previous entries and see where would it be best to place the category Contemporary Art. In case you think what I'm about to do can be improved I'd appreciate it if you could improve it instead of deleting it.
Best Regards

Trump Plaza red link
This was WP:GOODFAITH. I couldn't find a page on this tower that he owns. No one is going to add the Wikipedia page on Trump Plaza in NY, if there isn't a red link to it. No one seems to know that it exists, or perhaps they're confused because of all the other Trump Plaza's. The point of redlinks is to notify other contributors that there is work to be done. So, I'd be nice of you if you contributed, e.g., restore the link and create the new page, instead of just wantonly removing the red links. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.54.0.181 (talk) 18:02, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguations
Hi Bkonrad - sorry I seem to have inadvertently edit warred with you over some disambiguation links for New Zealand Company ships. I thought I had made a mistake with my entry and only later noticed you had made the changes. Is there a reason for your changes that I should be aware of. I am happy to revert back to your version if there is. NealeFamily (talk) 05:28, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
- @NealeFamily:, generally piped section links on disambiguation pages should be placed in the description. See WP:DABPIPE for more information. older ≠ wiser 11:58, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Coppel
Coppel is the name of the primary topic which is a major retailer 159th in the world. Coppel (disambiguation) is the logical location for the disambiguation page which is hardly needed as it's just people with that last name. In any case I've left it very clear and created an article for the primary and quite significant subject Coppel. A disambiguation page does not logically occupy the primary namespace. If you are concerned about a cut and paste creation then why not fix it instead of reverting to the previous solution which provides LESS information to readers and does not inform them of a significant retailer.Keizers (talk) 03:49, 8 August 2017 (UTC)
- Perhaps so, but you should not move pages by cutting and pasting the content. Start an article under a separate title or as a draft, then request a page move. As the promoter of the new content, it is incumbent on you to do the work and not direct others to do it for you. older ≠ wiser 06:04, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Requirement to include parenthetical disambiguators even when there is a prose explanation?
Hey, I don't edit a lot of disambig pages, but I don't know what to make of this edit. I Ctrl+Fed MOS:DAB for "parenth", and the closest I could find was it advising very meekly on the ordering of entries. I had specifically removed the parenthetical disambiguator because I thought it was unnecessary if followed by "a 2016 episode of Game of Thrones". Hijiri 88 (聖やや) 12:51, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Hijiri88: see MOS:DABPIPE and MOS:DABPIPING. In general, links that are not in the description should not be piped such that the actual title of the target is obscured. Piping can be used to apply formatting required for certain types of titles or names. older ≠ wiser 13:24, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
- Huh. Thanks for clearing that up!
- Yeah, I guess it didn't occur to me to search "pip" because your version technically piped the link anyway (for the reason you allude to). Assuming others have made or will make the same mistake as I did under the same not-exactly-unique circumstances, I've gone ahead and added the words "parenthetical disambiguator" to that part of the page.
- Thanks again! Hijiri 88 (聖やや) 13:50, 30 August 2017 (UTC)
