Signatures RfC
Hi AE. Would you be opposed to a SNOW closure of your recent RfC on signatures?
As a general point, it's advisable to seek opinions at VPI or another formal venue before proposing formal policy RfCs if you're not highly confident and experienced at proposing policy changes. Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 20:45, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Problems
- Some pages, edits and users disappeared for a short while after the server switch. Missing content and users was fixed within a day. Some preferences and other things might take a few more days to fix. [1]
- Wikis are updated with new and updated translations from translatewiki.net again. This will happen once a week. The developers are working on fixing the problem so we can have translation updates more often again. [2]
Changes later this week
- When you create an abuse filter that prevents edits you can now write a specific error message for it. Before this all abuse filters that prevented edits had the same error message. [3]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 October. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 October. It will be on all wikis from 18 October (calendar).
Meetings
- There will be no more meetings with the Editing team. This is because not enough Wikimedians were interested. To tell developers which bugs you think are the most important you can use Phabricator as normal. [4]
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 17 October at 15:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Worried
Hello AE, and thank you for responding to that concerned user who complained about me declining his draft. Soon, my probation will end on AfC and I am worried that the admins will use the fact that I haven't accepted a draft to be an article yet against me. Can you help? Your friend. – Yanjipy (talk) 00:16, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Yanjipy: Don't worry about the number of accepts. They don't matter. What matters most is the quality of your reviews. There are no policies or rules stating that you must accept at least one AfC submission before you become a permanent AfC reviewer. @Primefac: You are the administrator who is very active in AfC, do you want to further explain about the process of reviewing AfC reviewers on probation? —AE (talk • contributions) 12:55, 15 October 2018 (UTC)
- As long as no one has any issues with a probationary member's reviews, then they're good to go. Primefac (talk) 20:44, 15 October 2018 (UTC)

Which ≠ who
You might want to correct this English mistake that makes another editor an inanimate object (which = inanimate, who = humans/animals). (Having done this mistake once in front of a native speaker, I can assure you it weirds people out, even if the context makes clear that it was not intentionally pejorative.) Request for Page Review
Dear AE,
I while back, I wrote an article Draft:Julius Scherzer. Given that I have a COI, I published it as a draft rather than a full page. Would you mind looking it over?. It has numerous references, and the target is notable (in my opinion), but I didn't want to publish it myself to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
Thanks,
--DannyS712 (talk) 19:18, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- @DannyS712: Hi. The sections "Education" and "Career" doesn't even have one source. Can you add at least one for them? ―Abelmoschus Esculentus 13:29, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- @Abelmoschus Esculentus: How about now? Also, thanks for the prompt response. --DannyS712 (talk) 18:55, 26 October 2018 (UTC)
- I have gone ahead and accepted it. It still needs more references IMO. ―Abelmoschus Esculentus 02:43, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Go... to ANI on my behalf
Hello, Elmos. It has been a while since we last spoke! I miss seeing your name on Huggle. Please come back/request for rollback again. Anyway, I've recently made a report at WP:AIV regarding User:Nipe Cold but the reviewing administrator recommended I take the matter to WP:ANI. Legends have said that ANI is an incredibly miserable and sorrow place, I am very reluctant to go and I was hoping if someone else would pick up the mantle by taking this particular user there, as they have been pretty disruptive with their blank-page submitting, unnecessary stylistic changes, an edit to the userpage of a sockpuppet and irrelevant page creations. Will you do it, as you seem to be an ANI regular? Flooded with them hundreds 14:04, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- It's okay, I've started a thread already. Flooded with them hundreds 14:42, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hi there FWTH (are you ok with this “nickname” or Z0?). Yeah I will return to Huggle IRC in a moment, I promise. It’s not a bad experience at all :) ―Abelmoschus Esculentus 23:24, 28 October 2018 (UTC)
