Thank you for improving this article and others in May. - I had a good story on coronation day: the Te Deum we sang that day. And the following day we sang it for the composer ;)

Question from Vu-Lam L.N. (18:53, 11 June 2023)
Hey!
I just have a general question about editing regarding links. If a key phrase is repeated more than once, is it customary to only make the phrase a link the 1st time it appears, and leave all other occurrences of the phrase as regular text? --V.L.N. (talk) 18:53, 11 June 2023 (UTC)

Assalamu Alaikum, hope you are among the good people. I am also always passionate about helping and honoring Deobandis. On Faraz Rabbani's deletion page which was discussed with you recently, unfortunately I am not able to access the sources you provided because I am not a member of them. I feel that a communication is necessary. You can show me the sources using mail or social, if you have access. What do you say? Question from Ithilllonge (11:39, 30 July 2023)
Hi! I am new to wiki editing and publishing. If there is no wikipedia article for a person, however they have a page on a seperate specific wiki (e.g. Castlevania wiki), is it necessary to also make a wikipedia article for them? --Ithilllonge (talk) 11:39, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- Please read Wikipedia:Notability. You should only make new articles on people who are notable - and check that they do not already have an article on them under a different name. For example, there is no article on Keane Wallis-Bennett, but there is an article on the death of Keane Wallis-Bennett. Also have a look at draft articles. These are articles that people are/were working on, but are not yet ready - for example a rather obvious problem with Draft:Jack Parrock is the all the sources cited were written by Jack Parrock.
Information on Wikipedia must be verifiable; if no reliable, independent sources can be found on a topic, then it should not have a separate article.
Wikipedia:Notability Sources written by Jack Parrock may be great sources for articles on other people – but there need to articles written by other people about Jack Parrock for him to count as notable. If nobody fixes this, then the draft article about Jack Parrock will probably be deleted in September 2023.
- If you are starting a new article, think about what is notable. Is it the person, or some event they took part in. Keane Wallis-Bennett might have been a future prime minister of her country,[1] but the people responsible for school maintenance messed up, so what was notable was her death.
- If you want to start a new article, please start it as a draft – see Wikipedia:Drafts. Leave it to other people to decide if the page is ready for main article space. You may get some help if you ask for the draft article to be reviewed.
- My first article was done in main article space and it got speedy-deleted two and a half hours after I created it. -- Toddy1 (talk) 14:12, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ithilllonge, I would pretty much say same as Toddy1 has said above. Notability guidelines differ across different Wikipedias. What is considered notable on Castlevania might not necessarily be considered notable on English Wikipedia. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:05, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot @TheAafi and @Toddy1, I’ll definitely stick to reading the guidelines first before making any edits. Ithilllonge (talk) 15:09, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

Question from Was Kisevalter Nash? (22:16, 26 July 2023)
Would it be possible to get rid of the unsightly banner near the top of the Yuri Nosenko article I've cleaned up quite a bit for the original unknown-to-me author? Thanks. --Was Kisevalter Nash? (talk) 22:16, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Was Kisevalter Nash?: If you feel a specific problem was fixed, you should yourself be able to remove the related template. I am someone who does not like going through huge walls of texts but if you believe it complies with the Manual of Style and does not have "grammatical errors" anymore, feel free to remove that specific tag. However, the tag for references needs to be kept there. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:10, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

- @Yuungdax: I am sorry but this is discouraged. Wikipedia is not a self-advertising hub. If you are a notable artist, people would eventually note about you and write about you. ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:11, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

- @Gerda Arendt, you are doing great. I hope I get back to the same pace that I used to maintain a year or two ago. I am more into leadership and organizing now; I recently co-organized an edit-a-thon on Kashmiri Wikipedia which helped add 77 articles to that edition of Wikipedia. I will be giving a workshop on The Other Side of Wikipedia tomorrow! Nowadays, I enjoy helping with and preparing and marking pages on Multilingual wikis for translation (since I have been a Translation Administrator for quite a long time) and have recently joined the global renamers team. I help take care of the ITN section on the Urdu Wikipedia. My personal content-based contributions have gotten lost somewhere but I have pretty much amazing resource in Turkish language that I helped make recently. New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Aafi,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Question from Elizzzzz (19:47, 5 October 2023)
Hi, How can I know the sources are reliable and independent? Are there any examples or technique to analyze the sources and the notability? Thanks! --Elizzzzz (talk) 19:47, 5 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Elizzzzz: Thanks for asking the question. Independent sources are those that do not bear any connection with the subject of an article. Sources that generally have some editorial insight are seen as reliable. To check whether a subject passes WP:GNG: one needs to check with "multiple reliable and independent secondary resources" that discuss the subject in detail. The subject could be the main topic of that source, or perhaps there may more than a paragraph on it. Take a look at WP:SIGCOV, WP:RS and WP:IS. A more comprehensive one is the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Best, ─ The Aafī (talk) 05:42, 6 October 2023 (UTC)

Hello TheAafi:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!

Hello! I am a regular consumer of Wikipedia and have never edited. I joined because I saw racist content on this article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_City_blackout_of_1977
specifically in the infobox, which suggests that this power outage was committed by racial minorities in order to commit crimes. I do not know enough about the event to suggest a correction, but I do know that this is clearly wrong (and offensive). Is there a way you can flag this article?
Best,

- @Dogma.geneva, I am sorry. I would be happy to guide you on this. Before taking you anywhere else, please take a look at WP:42 and WP:MOS. The draft you submitted, and then re-submitted again, does have some issues that need to be addressed before you submit it again for review. Regarding adopting Owais' nominations
Hello. I've noticed that you have offered to adopt a few of Owais' nominations that require QPQs and have even donated some. However, I have concerns that this may not be fair. For one thing, the QPQ requirement is intended to be strict. Adopting some of his nominations and donating QPQs would technically mean he would have over five freebies. If Owais had been a regular editor with multiple nominations and multiple provided QPQs, that probably would have just been fine. However, in practice, what is happening is that Owais now has eight freebies instead of the five maximum, and I feel this might be highly unfair to other editors who are also now required to do QPQs.
Perhaps a single adoption would have been fine, but adopting almost all of them means that Owais could have as many as nine nominations without having done a single QPQ, which could be seen as unfair. As such, I'm wondering if you could either withdraw those QPQ requests, or perhaps assist Owais in the reviewing process so that in lieu of you donating QPQs, he could instead review nominations and learn the process with your help. Thank you and happy editing. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 10:57, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Narutolovehinata5, I was worried about the same thing and that's why I had asked on the DYK talk page. I take your note and would strike all the adoptions except Islam, Youth, and Modernity in The Gambia, which sounds of interest to me personally. ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:13, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Owais Al Qarni: would you be willing to learn the review process with me in a couple of days? ─ The Aafī (talk) 11:16, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'm fine with one donation as a compromise, as well as your assistance in helping the other nominations with regards to any issues raised. Mehmud Hasan Deobandi
Regarding the title "Shaikh ul Hind," it seems that there may be differing perspectives on its origin and significance. According to my understanding, this title is traditionally associated with Sheikh Salim Chishti and is widely recognized across Sunni denominations.
To ensure the neutrality of the Wikipedia entry, it is important to acknowledge that this title is not unique to a single individual and is recognized by a subset of scholars. If there are specific references that can provide further clarity on this matter, I encourage you to make edits with appropriate citations. Your contributions are appreciated, and I trust that you will take the necessary steps to address this. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Zuck28 (talk) 13:10, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- I am glad that you understand. It is evident that this title was not given to Mahmud Hasan by Deobandis alone, and is of course used outside of the Deobandi world. See this for instance, (Islam in South Asia in Practice, p. 236), this (Said the Prophet of God: Hadith Commentary Across a Millennium, p. 152 onwards), see this, (Islam & Politics Afghanistan N, p. 1430). This work by Ziahul Hasan Farooqi suggests some other aspects. The Princeton Encyclopedia of Islamic Political Thought also appears to openly support the title's common usage for Mahmud Hasan Deobandi (see p. 131, 295). As for the origin and other uses of the titles, I find them out of merit. This title could be used for others (within or outside the specific groups or movements) but for Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, it was a title not granted by Deobandis alone and is not evidently used by them alone, the article reads, "he was honoured with the title of "Shaykh al-Hind" (The Leader of India) by the Khilafat Committee", and is cited. The title's wide academic usage clearly discards the idea that "he is known with this title within the Deobandi movement only". Interestingly, this work, published by C. Hurst & Co. makes it much more appealing, and neutral academic sources such as this in Urdu also substantially establish this fact. I hope this makes sense to you. I really see it disinterested to make a mention of this title's original and wide usage in the article (see WP:UNDUE). ─ Aafī (talk) 15:38, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @TheAafi,
- Upon reviewing authoritative texts, such as "Islam in South Asia in Practice," "Said the Prophet of God," and "The Princeton Encyclopedia of Islamic Political Thought," it's evident that the title "Shaykh al-Hind," conferred upon Mahmud Hasan by the Khilafat Committee, is recognized both within and beyond the Deobandi community. This title holds significant historical importance.
- In the current article, the title is presented similarly to a nickname: "Mahmud Hasan Deobandi (also known as Shaykh al-Hind; 1851–1920)." To preserve its honorific status, I propose a revision:
- "Mahmud Hasan Deobandi (1851–1920), an esteemed Islamic scholar and freedom fighter, was conferred the title 'Shaykh al-Hind' by the Khilafat Committee.”
- This respectful approach mirrors the sensitivity required for titles like "Amir al-Mu'minin," associated with Ahmadiyya leader Mirza Masroor Ahmad, yet holding broad historical resonance in Islam. Using such titles as names or nicknames could be seen as inappropriate by the wider Muslim community.
- I have not made direct edits, valuing collaborative dialogue and your expertise. I'm keen to hear your thoughts on this suggestion and hope we can jointly implement the necessary changes.
- Thank you for considering this adjustment.
- Best regards,
- Zuck28 (talk) 17:01, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- I have an instant observation, both of the personalities come from diverse backgrounds. Most of the Muslim community would outrightly feel inappropriate for anyone to be called as an "Amir al-Muminin", and if that is someone from one of the minority communities with which the entire Sunni Muslim community disagrees with, is entirely different from a nickname, approved of, used widely, in and outside academia for someone who is part of the Sunni Muslim community. The two comparisons are uncalled for. Mahmud Hasan Deobandi is widely known as "Shaykh al-Hind" despite it being not his real name, whilst, Mirza Masroor has a title held within his own community, something he is not known as "beyond". However, I do believe that the lede should be supplied with an additional citation which verifies that this is a commonly adopted name for Mahmud Hasan, it being honoured as a title is referenced elsewhere. ─ Aafī (talk) 18:27, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'd also want to say that terms such as "esteemed scholar" are WP:PEACOCK and should be avoided. ─ Aafī (talk) 18:41, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- @TheAafi, It seems there's some confusion about whether "Sheikh al Hind" is simply an honorific title or an accepted nickname among the majority of the Muslim community. If it is indeed an honorific title, perhaps it would be more appropriate to present it separately in the title section, rather than as a bolded name.
- Could you please provide further clarification on whether this is widely accepted as a nickname or solely recognized as an honorific title within the community? Thank you for your understanding.

Question from AlexScholaro (17:08, 6 March 2024)
Hello,
I propose creating an article about Scholaro, a leader in credential evaluation services. As a Scholaro employee, I'm committed to adhering to Wikipedia's conflict of interest and neutrality policies.
Scholaro's services are vital for international students, professionals seeking employment or licensing abroad, and educational institutions, particularly in understanding academic credential equivalence, mainly in the U.S.
An article on Scholaro would offer valuable insights into the credential evaluation sector, emphasizing its role in global education and professional mobility. Any content provided will be based on independent, reliable sources, in line with Wikipedia's standards.
I plan to discuss this on Wikipedia talk pages and submit content for community review, respecting Wikipedia's guidelines.
Thank you for considering this proposal. --AlexScholaro (talk) 17:08, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
