Context-sensitive interface
[edit]Xenophobe appears to use a context-sensitive interface where text at the bottom of each player's section of the screen tells them what their left and right buttons will do in the current situation. I'm not aware of a video game including such a feature before that, so it seems rather notable. 207.229.177.89 (talk) 02:23, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Xenophobe.jpg
[edit]Image:Xenophobe.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Removed Assumption
[edit]Freckleface, thank you for removing the extraneous wording there. It is more graceful for your edit. But I can speak from personal experience that I had played Xenophobe for over 8 hours one day without adding any additional credits, and it was simply that I was too tired to continue that made me stop. I had cycled through the game so many times in those 8+ hours that when I quit (with over 6000 health) and turned the game over to a friend who was good, he died in less than 2 minutes. :-)

Umm...
[edit]Call me a racist, but the game designers of Xenophobe predicted the future. Think about it. Xenophobia is the fear or dislike of foreigners. The point of Xenophobe is to eradicate the aliens from the level before there are too many. How can you connect that to today's history? Think about it... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.93.70.113 (talk) 00:27, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- All I can think about is that would be original research. When the game was made, ideas from the movie Alien and similar movies were a big part of popular culture. This is clearly the type of "alien" Xenophobe refers to and it is clear from the game. It has nothing to with fear or hatred of foreigners. That type of fear/hatred was around for a long time before this game (and, of course, still exists today), but has nothing to do with this game. — Frecklefσσt | Talk 16:17, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, "Alien" in the UK just means an extraterrestrial being. If you say "Alien" to an average Brit, he/she will immediately think of a little green man from Mars. "Alien" is almost never used to refer to a foreigner, and in 1987 when this game came out, that meaning would have been completely unknown. It still sounds funny when we hear US news reporters talking about "Illegal Aliens" :-) 86.132.56.93 (talk) 21:56, 10 May 2010 (UTC)
reception section
[edit]I've expanded the table on reception, but it's a bit of a funny alignment also. It's all Atari Lynx, does nobody have reception links for other ports? Govvy (talk) 17:06, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
Atari Lynx version
[edit]@LavaLampBamboo: Just be aware that the Atari Lynx version isn't a true port, they had to build the game a little differently to the arcade, so there are differences. So please be aware of that when writing the gameplay section. Regards. Govvy (talk) 09:26, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks for flagging that. Do we know if any of the ports were direct ports? Trying to find any resources about the original arcade version is proving a challenge! LavaLampBamboo (talk) 09:37, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- I believe only the Atari 2600 and the Atari 7800 could take a direct port. Then they had to rewrite the code from scratch, for the Atari ST, Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum, they all used the same code. NES and Atari lynx needed their own adjusted code. Regards. Govvy (talk) 10:25, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- Perfect, I'll use the 7800 manual as more relevant reference! Cheers! LavaLampBamboo (talk) 13:50, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
