Memory

[edit]

From memory, I recall maybe seeing four week worth of episodes of Video Power total, and actually had a few episodes taped onto either VHS or Betamax. I long since erased those tapes. (A mistake, to me, was reusing tapes, but it was a common practice by many VCR owners. I estimate, without research, that maybe 95% of all home recordings of TV broadcasts have been "lost" this way.) The show was on at bad times in the Las Vegas, NV, area. KRLR Ch. 21 ran the show. The first version of the show ran at 5 AM, 5:30 AM, or 6 AM. Like any of us kids would be up to just watch a TV show, really? We usually slept until 7 AM, got on the bus at 8 AM, were at school by 8:45 when the bell rang. So I hardly saw this show's first version. I recorded two episodes and showed them to my friends to show them I'm not crazy, but they all hated it, especially Johnny Arcade. The second version of the show, I remember being in Jr. High and again, KRLR liked to air this program at the worst possible time possible! I think it was either 5:30 or 6 AM. I'm going to go with 5:30 because I remember watching two weeks and hoping the dumb-ass children would be smart and grab the Neo-Geo console (I know I would). The other thing is that the Sun wasn't out, and in August/September in the Vegas area, the Sun don't shine 'til around 6 AM, give or take. The article doesn't address the lousy timing that many stations had for showing this TV show. When I visited Los Angeles, I think, I recall finding part of an episode like at 2:30 PM. School doesn't end 'til 3 PM, so again, I have no idea why subscribers treated this show so poorly in the listings. My only guess is either the traffic engineers are idiots (most likely, and I speak from personal experience, as I was a traffic engineer for TV stations) or the show was a barter, meaning that the show is free to the stations and already contains all of the commercials for the show edited in. I just know that this show could've easy been aired either along with the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, or taking over the spot from Mario's show. If I was in charge, I'd have grabbed it for an afternoon showing, but that's just me. (Oh, when KRLR first got the show, it was on at 4 AM Sunday. Yeah, 4 AM! Figure that one out! I remember because that's I learned about the show, staying up all night from watching whatever grindhouse cinema KRLR was airing on a Saturday night.)
