In 2013, fellow students at the National School of Video Game and Interactive Media in France (EMJIN) started working on a video game for a graduate student project, with no intention to turn a profit but constantly improved upon it.[1] The game won awards in the 2014 and 2015 season, including the Student Award from the European Indie Game Days and won the Innovation Award albeit a finalist for Best Narrative at BIG 2015.[2]

On March 2014, the group uploaded gameplay footage of the game in it's development stage - now named event[0], under the name Ocelot Society.[3] On August 2015, the game preview was announced to the public.[4] On December, designers Leonard Carpentier, Emmanuel Corno and Sergy Mohov incorporated the Ocelot Society name,[5] and by then had 10-11 employees under their belt.[6] Prior to its inception, Mohov helped develop Rime from Tequila Works, Corno had worked at Amplitude Studios and Carpentier was employeed at Ubisoft.[7]

On July 2016, the company received funding from both France's CNC organization and Indie Fund,[8] though the gorup had stated that the CNC backed the game in the second half of its development back in 2015.[1] The game was then released on 14 September 2016 for both Microsoft Windows and macOS.
