This page sucks
[edit]And it sucks big time, like what 95 fucking characters? you know there's a little place for that, called FANSITES AND WIKIAS OF THE GAME this information of most characters is pathetically irrelevant and it should be reduced to only the most important ones, Jack, Andrew Ryan, Atlas, Fontaine and Tenenbaum, I'm deleting it. Also it's highly irrelevant as well the kind of Splicers and Big Daddies. (190.12.153.187 (talk) 13:32, 22 April 2010 (UTC))
- I disagree. The name of the article is "List of characters in the BioShock series". What was included in the article was a list of characters in the BioShock series, how can that possibly be irrelavent? I understand what your getting at, but if you look at other articles like List of The Shield characters, you'll notice that all characters featured in the show have and should be mentioned. If only the major characters are to be mentioned, the article might as well be renamed "List of major characters in the BioShock series". All characters that play a role in the plot should be mentioned, as the article name states, no matter how minor. (PavelChekov01 (talk) 17:23, 22 April 2010 (UTC))
Article move ("List of characters in the BioShock series" vs. "List of BioShock characters.")
[edit]Sorry, it just seems absolutely pointless to move this article. The name “List of BioShock characters” could easily be misinterpreted as a list consisting strictly of characters that appear in the first instalment, which could (and will) confuse readers. Also, the fact that you actually wrote “Any confusion with a list of characters from only the first game is easily cleared up” proves that you agree to a certain extent that ‘’’some’’’ confusion will be generated with the move.
Claiming that the article should be “Reworded to be consistent with other lists of characters, such as List of Naruto characters and List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters” is also inane. There are several articles named “List of characters in the “..........” series” (E.G. List of characters in the Metal Gear series, List of characters in the Soul series and even List of characters in the Mortal Kombat series.) (Pavel Chekov, Esq. 20:19, 15 June 2010 (UTC))
As a matter of fact, there are also many other articles named “Characters of ‘..........’.” (E.G. Characters of Halo, Characters of Half-Life.
It would be much easier to just redirect “List of BioShock characters” to the article, anyway. After all, as it has been named “List of characters in the BioShock series” since its creation,” and there hasn’t been any problem’s associated with the name so far. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PavelChekov01 (talk • contribs) 20:03, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- "List of x characters" where x is the franchise name is the established title format for lists of fictional characters. "Characters of x" is the established title format for articles about a franchise's fictional characters. These are the title formats employed by all featured content and all applicable lists and articles should eventually conform to them. Any variation from these formats should result solely from semantic difference, something that is absent from the current case. Neelix (talk) 16:40, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
- This article shouldn't be at either. It's not a list. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 06:39, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Regarding BioShock Infinite
[edit]Regarding the latest addition to the BioShock franchise, BioShock Infinite. Several characters have already being confirmed, such as: Saltonstall, Elizabeth and Booker DeWitt. I personally believe we should wait until more information regarding these characters are revealed until they warrant a mention in the article. Removal of characters
[edit]I fail to understand why listing every character in BioShock has been deemed "irrelevant," all them make an appearance in the game, therefore, they are characters, and should be mentioned as so, just as the article name states.
If you class every minor character in a game franchise irrelavent and warrants no mention, then why is this article the only one on Wikipedia to suffer? Take these for example: List of characters in the Metal Gear series, List of characters in the Hitman series, List of Mortal Kombat characters, List of Tekken characters. You'll notice that every character, no matter how minor, are mentioned in the article.
If you wish to trim this article down so there's only a couple mentioned for every game, then (as I said before), you should rename this page "List of major BioShock characters." (--Pavel Chekov, Esq. 12:55, 16 August 2010 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by PavelChekov01 (talk • contribs)
- A list's content is of notable characters. WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. They clearly violate WP:NOTE, and should be reduced in content. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 01:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Alright, I was asked to weigh in on this. My personal opinion is that, if a character is not mentioned in any third-party, reliable sources, and is not a major character, then they should not be included under WP:NOTE and WP:V. Essentially, a list article should not be a dumping ground for intricate levels of detail about the game that approach cruft, as many list article do. All characters in the list should either 1. Be very important to the plot, so that including them is essential to the reader's understanding of the work in question, or 2. Have some independent, reliable sources. Without either of these, having the character serves no purpose beyond cruft. かんぱい! Scapler (talk) 06:46, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
What's happened to this article?!
[edit]I remember viewing this article a few weeks ago, when it was satisfactory. Now it's just pathetic. I managed to find the old revision:
Why has it been reduced to what it is now? There's hardly any information on it (on top of that, the info which does remain is unhelpful). I fail to understand... (George Bailey1 (talk) 22:26, 29 September 2010 (UTC))
- The article has been trimmed to the primary characters in the series, as opposed to listing any character named. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 09:35, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
