Larry Niven's Fate of Worlds is not notable?
[edit]Hi. User:SyFyGuy submitted an article through AFC process on Larry Niven's recently published Fate of Worlds. I declined the article on the basis of lack of notability (there were no independent rs for the book). The author of the article has queried this decision on my talk page arguing, correctly, that the book's notability and sourcing is equivalent to other books in the series which have WP articles (for instance, Betrayer of Worlds). Anyhow, I was wondering if any of you had an opinion on this matter. Thanks. FiachraByrne (talk) 17:43, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
- Frankly, I think the notability of all these recent Niven novels is dubious. These aren't exactly Ringworld and have not gotten (in my opinion) the requisite third-party attention. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:02, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Coordinator?
[edit]Exactly how did Liberalufp (talk · contribs) become the alleged new coordinator for this task force? As far as I know, the task force hasn't ever had one before. Also, what's with all the talk page messages stating we are going to be assigned specific things to do instead of allowing us to work on things as we see fit (since we are all volunteers, after all)? I think this needs a little discussing rather than having someone issuing edicts. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 06:40, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
- first of all I am not issuing edicts at all I am just organizing the task force so that it can actually make progress. And if I just let this task force work with no direction it will make no progress at all. I was assigned this role through the wiki project of novels. This position has been vacant for a long time now. And I am not alleged. Maybe I need to be more tactful and give people more room. I am sorry if I offended anyone. And when I mean assignments they aren't really assignments they are just suggested thing that need to be done and things you might be interested or knows a lot about. They might also be things that really need to get done. And the only reason I am asking you guys to answer to me back to my talk page so I am aware that the Task force is progressing. Discussing just increases work and time but I am open to all advice and discussions. If you suggest for me to do something I will probably do it. I am so sorry if i offended anyone, just need to get used this job more. Answer me to my talk page.--Liberalufp (talk) 22:23, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Thank you for responding. I would suggest that any discussion about this task force and work related to this task force should primarily be here on this page rather than your talk page. As for helping people coordinate better, that's an admirable goal, and working on lists of things which need doing may be the best way to help people find projects which interest them. Just put the lists on the task force page. I disagree that we aren't making progress. The individual members of the project are certainly contributing toward this and other task forces, just perhaps not how you want them to or as quickly as you want them to. Keep in mind we are all volunteers, and this is not a job. People generally don't have a set time when they can work on things here; rather, they tend to contribute when they have time, and that tends to be somewhat random when you look at it. The best way, like I said, is to provide lists of things which need to be done and then let people just work in them as they can. Anything else tends to drive people away. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 22:35, 25 March 2013 (UTC)
- Looking into things a little further, you are out-and-out lying above. You were not "assigned this role through the wiki project of novels" as you claim; rather, you added yourself as coordinator at WP:NOVELS JobCentre here, made a bunch of other changes to the JobCentre here, and then were reverted here. On this task force's page, you added yourself as coordinator and rearranged the participants, which has now been undone. If you want to be coordinator, please open a discussion here. Don't just add yourself as coordinator and steamroll through everything. We're happy for the help, but we don't need an overlord. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:50, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Category:Science fiction novels by subgenre
[edit]I'm often coming across books that don't fit in any of the current subgenres. So do we need more categories? I added one on Space exploration. What others? Earth colony novels? Novels about life on other planets? Any ideas about this or other subgenres? Robina Fox (talk) 00:32, 28 January 2015 (UTC)
- By the way, there are now 6701 pages --not all novels articles-- under parent Category:Science fiction novels (looking 5 levels down the hierarchy via CatScan 3.0, which evidently sees all). Here are the numbers classified under its three comprehensive first-level subcategories (4 levels down):

Similar topic: I'd love to make a subcategory for Science fiction novels by women. But I'm quite new and have never made a category page before. Any tips?
MestizaMetaphor (talk) 02:40, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- Nice idea! It's easy to create the category: Type Category:Science fiction novels by women into the search box and you will be given the option to create the category. On the category page you just need to add its categories – I'd suggest Category:Science fiction novels by writer and Category:Literature by women. The hard (or rather, tedious) part is finding all the novels that will go into the category and adding it to each of those articles individually. The only shortcut I can think of is to add it to the "Novels by..." those women writers who are in the Science fiction novels by writer category. I'd recommend getting HotCat to help with adding the category. --- Robina Fox (talk) 05:11, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
- Wow, that is exactly the information I've been looking for! And HotCat, so brilliant. Deep thanks. MestizaMetaphor (talk) 13:23, 3 July 2019 (UTC)
Illuminatus article review
[edit]I have nominated The Illuminatus! Trilogy for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. If substantial concerns are not addressed during the review period, the article will be moved to the Featured Article Removal Candidates list for a further period, where editors may declare "Keep" or "Delist" the article's featured status. The instructions for the review process are here. DrKay (talk) 10:38, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
A large quantity of unsourced critical analysis was deleted from Stars in My Pocket Like Grains of Sand in this edit. The edit was reverted without explanation more than a month later. After posting on the article talk page, i have reinstated the edit removing the WP:OR. However, this novel is one where the article would benefit from some sourced critical analysis, in my view. Can anyone help provide some? DES (talk) 18:42, 17 November 2015 (UTC)
- There's a brief review at Delany's entry in the Science Fiction Encyclopedia (http://www.sf-encyclopedia.com). The November 2005 issue of Science Fiction Studies (Issue #97) has an in-depth review of the 20th anniversary print of the book (the Studies are on-line at http://www.depauw.edu/sfs/). Also, there was a 1996 book devoted to critical reviews of Delany's work, Ash of Stars (University of Mississippi Press, edited by James Sallis). I haven't seen that book, so I don't know how much discussion is devoted to Pocket. I hope this helps. NewYorkActuary (talk) 19:36, 17 November 2015 (UTC)

Merging Isaac Asimov Presents The Great SF Stories
[edit]At present there are over twenty separate articles for the anthology series Isaac Asimov Presents The Great SF Stories, almost all of which are just an infobox and a list of the included stories. Many of them are a badly formatted mess. These books would be far better served, in my opinion, a single article. This would of course retain (or improve) the existing information. Any thoughts or objections to this? Euchrid (talk) 01:19, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
Request for information on WP1.0 web tool
[edit]Hello and greetings from the maintainers of the WP 1.0 Bot! As you may or may not know, we are currently involved in an overhaul of the bot, in order to make it more modern and maintainable. As part of this process, we will be rewriting the web tool that is part of the project. You might have noticed this tool if you click through the links on the project assessment summary tables.
We'd like to collect information on how the current tool is used by....you! How do you yourself and the other maintainers of your project use the web tool? Which of its features do you need? How frequently do you use these features? And what features is the tool missing that would be useful to you? We have collected all of these questions at this Google form where you can leave your response. Walkerma (talk) 04:24, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Songmaster revision
[edit]As I elaborate on in more detail in my post on Talk:Songmaster, I could use some help revising the article for Songmaster by Orson Scott Card. I've seen the novel get brought up frequently in discussions of Card's homophobia, so I was surprised to see the article is fairly lacking and hasn't received much attention in recent years. If you happen to have a copy of the book or other sources relating to it, I would very much appreciate the help.Ithinkiplaygames (talk) 20:20, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

Notability of Blade Runner 3: Replicant Night
[edit]I am considering to nominate this article for deletion (to be turned into a redirect). The reason is given on the article talk page. Your help is needed to confirm whether the subject is actually notable per Wikipedia's guidelines. Thank you! Renerpho (talk) 10:40, 5 October 2024 (UTC)
The article The Nimrod Hunt has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unreferenced and unimproved over 15 years. Lack of significant coverage.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Bearian (talk) 11:26, 14 December 2024 (UTC)
