Cla68
As a first proposal, I suggest awarding the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves to Cla68 (talk · contribs), to recognize his many contributions to articles, and, in particular, his creation of numerous featured articles. Thoughts? Kirill Lokshin 00:50, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Looks like a good candidate. Support. Wandalstouring 13:44, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support this nomination as well. Carom 20:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- Support - Creators of featured articles need to be featured as well ;) -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 10:02, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, looks like we have our majority support. Barring any last-minute changes, I think we can go ahead and award them with the following citation:
By the order of the coordinators of the Military history WikiProject, Cla68 is hereby awarded the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in recognition of his many valuable contributions to articles, and, in particular, his leading role in the creation of numerous featured articles on the topic of the Pacific Theater of World War II.
(Is the wording too pretentious? Suggestions would be very welcome!)
We can keep this discusssion open for a few more days to see if any other coordinators want to comment, of course. Kirill Lokshin 13:41, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think that citation is acceptable - why be a military-related WikiProject if we can't be a little pretentious? ; ) Carom 15:19, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I've gone ahead and awarded it, then. Kirill Lokshin 01:40, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
A strong begining, not a coordinator so I can't leave a mention in the main body of discussion. Since this is the first Nommination there may be a few faux-pas, such as this one. Although unwriten in the main page (article) is the proposed statement Editors are welcome to comment on nominations in progress, but are requested not to make personal attacks or unneccessarily negative remarks. applicable?--Dryzen 20:15, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- I would think that was pretty implicit; should that be made more explicit in the award description itself? (I'm somewhat concerned that such wording would be interpreted as overly elitist; after all, are there any cases where editors aren't welcome to comment?) Kirill Lokshin 21:01, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
- I know there arn't any cases where editors aren't welcomed to comment but not all editors know that. Some may think that his is a Coordinators only section as only the coordinators are explicitly named in the Award scope. Akin to Coordinators' page open to the public but most editors thinking it off limits.
- Normal things to look over and polish till the Project Awards becomes a well greaced machine.--Dryzen 12:42, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
I think it a fitting citation for a fitting award. recomendations for recognition are made where for the participant editors? I've got a few names of deserving persons, as well--Dryzen
- Just creating new sections on this page for each editor you recommend seems like the easiest approach. Kirill Lokshin 19:13, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
Kirill Lokshin (I)
I would like to nomminate to receive the award of the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves to Kirill Lokshin (talk · contribs). In recognition of his many contributions to articles, his creation of numerous featured articles and most importantly his limitless devotion to this very project and the wikipedia community of editors in general. Be this devotion as an editor, a coordinator, an administrator or as a friend, an advisor or teacher. --Dryzen 17:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- Support Without a doubt. Carom 18:55, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
- No support for any coordinator as long as he is in office. Wandalstouring 17:09, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Could you please clarify this comment a little? Carom 17:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think Wandalstouring means that coordinators shouldn't be eligible for the award as long as they're in office. (Which is, admittedly, a good point; it'd slightly resemble Brezhnev's habit of awarding himself medals. ;-) Kirill Lokshin 17:28, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Meh. Since you can't self-nominate, I don't think it's problematic, as long as you don't vote in your own favor. And, as one can theoretically remain in office indefinitely, it seems a little odd to deny the award to someone who has demonstrated both dedication to the project and the support of the members. But that's just me... Carom 17:35, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- Right Kirill and it doesn't mean that I don't think you deserve it. Wandalstouring
- Could you please clarify this comment a little? Carom 17:25, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
- From the last election processes looks like Kirill Lokshin's going to have to wait a long time before get his deserved award. The same for a portion assistant-coordinators. There is a reason why they hold office. :oP --Dryzen
- It makes the award really valuable and to stick with Brezhnev, it doesn't look any better if the CPC awards Brezhnev and Brezhnev awards the CPC. Wandalstouring 17:01, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- Kirill deserves it no doubt. I say give it to him, in office or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pupster21 (talk • contribs)
- During the next election do you think for a second between stepping down from office as Lead Coordinator and taking the title up again we can post the Award? I understand your point Wandalstouring, but would of still liked to have given the Award regardless of tenure of position. As mentioned it was not a Coordinator that proposed. --Dryzen 13:34, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
- Kirill deserves it no doubt. I say give it to him, in office or not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pupster21 (talk • contribs)

SandyGeorgia
Although not technically a part of our project, I would like to nominate SandyGeorgia (talk · contribs) for the chevrons; Sandy has been instramental in the FA process as a whole by checking FAC articles for our project (and others as well) to ensure that citation are correctly configured, and by helping clear the backlog of FA-class articles that no longer meet FA criteria from our project (and others as well). I dare say that most articles listed under the FA-class showcase wouldn't be there if Sandy hadn't chipped in her two cents. As noted above, she is not technically a part of the project, but has been award the project Chevrons for her work in helping FA-class MILHIST articles achieve and maintain FA-class status, and the project part notes that "Nominees should generally be members of the WikiProject," meaning that a few good editers outside the project may still be eligable for the award.

- Mmm, I don't know. It's a good article, to be sure; but we've mostly awarded this for a long-term pattern of top-caliber (i.e. A-Class or FA) writing, rather than for a single article, no matter how excellent. Particularly as this hasn't been taken through a formal review process yet, it strikes me as a more appropriate occasion for an award of the regular WikiChevrons (which I note that Dapi hasn't yet received in any case). Kirill 14:06, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- I agree with Kirill here. MisterBee1966 could consider awarding the standard WikiChevrons himself. This is not to say that, longer-term, Dapi will not be a suitable recipient, it just seems a bit premature right now. (Incidentally, this reminds me, we really ought to put a nowiki subst string just below the mention of the Chevrons on the awards page to make it easier to hand out. I know you dislike boxed awards, Kirill, but they do display much more neatly on talk pages so, if no one objects, I'll subst a boxed one :) --ROGER DAVIES talk 09:12, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

- A request to ignore all rules
- I'd like to seek consensus to award User:Hlj the Wikichevrons with Oak leaves even though Hal isn't a member of this project, and even though he's never received the wikichevrons, though he did receive similar acclaim from Kirill back in 2006. IMHO, he's one of the most consistently fine editors in the ACW cluster, and many of our ACW battles, biographies and theaters articles would be impoverished without the enduring contributions and keen eyes of this retiring yet accomplished editor. I've posted a similarly named thread here. Please take any support or other discussion there. Sorry for the cross post, but in this case, IMHO, an exception might best be granted. Raul654
I'd like to nominate Raul654 (talk · contribs) for the chevrons w/oak leaves. Although not a member of the project, Raul has contributed to eight featured milhist articles, six of which still retain their bronze stars. Additionally, Raul has occasionally shown editors of various projects - including ours - leeway in adding articles to the TFA list when date relevance or other issues suggest a TFA appearance. Raul has also generously added to our visual library by taking plenty of pictures for our project. For all these reasons I believe Raul654 deserves the chevrons w/oak leaves.—Preceding unsigned comment added by TomStar81 (talk • contribs) 00:36, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Nominate MisterBee1966 (talk · contribs) for the Oak leaves. Nominated for creating and writing seven featured lists on German military awards during the Second World War and for contributing to four good articles and being instrumental in promoting three of them to A-Class status. At the moment Heinrich Bär is also nominated for FA status (it at A-Class at the moment). Dapi89 (talk) 21:26, 19 February 2009 (UTC)
Weak oppose- beyond deserving of the normal chevrons, but not the oak leaves yet. These things are precious and reserved for truly amazing things (though I still feel like a jerk here, hence the 'weak'...) —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 23:14, 22 February 2009 (UTC)- Support - I took literally one glance at the WWII aces list and immediately came here to switch. Normally, the FLs I look at aren't even close to the standard of FA, so I'd weigh them about 3 FLs to 1 FA. I know that lists are supposed to be a shorter than full articles because they have a more limited scope, but normally I will see like 2 refs to 1 book and a bunch of web references. However, his aces article has 11 refs (with one repeated quite a few times) from eight total books. Assuming that holds for his other FLs (which I have no reason to doubt), that kind of dedication over three years should be rewarded. My apologies for originally opposing; I hadn't realized just how much work he has put in. —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 19:55, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
Oppose; an excellent contributor, but for the present I agree with Ed. However, MisterBee1966 is certainly overdue for the standard chevrons if these haven't yet been awarded, and I'd support a future oak leaves nom if those GAs became FAs ;) EyeSerenetalk 12:40, 23 February 2009 (UTC)- Switch to support. The GAs and FLs didn't quite tip the nom over the bar for me, but taken together with MisterBee1966's exceptional dedication over such a long period (and the fact that he's an Imperial triple crown holder and is clearly a huge asset to the project, and has already been awarded the chevrons) it would be churlish of me to deny him the thanks and recognition he undoubtedly deserves. EyeSerenetalk 20:26, 24 February 2009 (UTC)
- Strong support • MisterBee is a low-key low-profile editor who has given a great deal to the project and received very little in return. For three years, he has worked hard building almost from scratch a comprehensive series of articles mostly on the German WWII Knight's Cross (though this is not his only field of contribution) and continues to diligently expand them. And his featured lists – List of foreign recipients of the Knight's Cross, List of German World War II jet aces, List of Knight's Cross recipients of the U-boat service, List of Knight's Cross recipients of the Schnellboot service, List of Knight's Cross recipients of the Kriegsmarine with others in production – are not to be sneezed at :) --ROGER DAVIES talk 19:36, 24 February 2009 (UTC)

Those would be four core articles in maritime warfare and (at least) one core article in all of warfare! In addition, he has significantly contributed to six of the seven articles in the history of the battleship series: the four above (assuming "battleship" itself counts), treaty battleship and Battleships in World War II. —Ed 17 (Talk / Contribs) 22:28, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

I hereby nominate Brad101 (talk · contribs) for the Chevron with Oak Leaves. Brad has been with us since 2006, and in that time has been a force of improvement behind a a very sizable number of nautical articles that fall within our scope. Although not listed as a member milhist per say, his work for SHIPS has produce a number of high quality article for us along the way. Brad is a recipient of the Chevrons for work in an earlier FAR for the Iowa class battleships, and has received an A-class medal for work his work on the Original Six Frigates of the United States Navy.

Just been waiting for his 'coordinatorship' to lapse by his own accord before nominating... For his sterling work as a four-term MilHist Coordinator, his ongoing "big picture" article work, including such examples as Australian Defence Force and Military history of Australia during World War II, just two of the ten FAs he's achieved, and for his tireless participation in discussion and review, I hereby nominate Nick-D for long-overdue Oak Leaves. Cplakidas (aka Constantine)
With 14 coordinators, 8 is a majority
I'd like to throw Constantine's name into the ring. (Cplakidas (talk · contribs)) It seems like I see a DYK on the Byzantines at least once a week, and every time I look at the article's history he's had a hand in it. In total, Constantine has 96 DYKs, one FA (the massive undertaking of Byzantine navy; probably ought to count for three), one FP (a ridiculously detailed map of Constantinople), twenty GAs, and numerous article and map creations that aren't featured or weren't DYK'ed. He's been around for quite some time (2005), and I think it is high time we recognize his monumental achievements. —Ed (talk • majestic titan) 07:39, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- Suggested citation text: In recognition of his outstanding work in hugely improving Wikipedia's coverage of the Byzantine period through contributions which include 96 DYKs, 20 good articles, one featured article, one featured picture and numerous other article and image creations.

Dapi89 (second nomination)
I want to nominate Dapi89 (talk · contribs) a second time since January 2008 for the Oak Leaves. His long lasting, high quality contribution to the project has made a tremendous impact on many World War II related articles, especially the air war. The number of articles he has worked on has grown steadily over the years. I would truly appreciate if this second nomination is viewed more positively. Thank you. MisterBee1966 (talk) 17:19, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support - on the one hand, he has no FAs. On the other, he has some big GAs on some rather important topics in WWII – e.g. Junkers Ju 87 (almost 13000 words), Heinkel He 111 (8500 words), or the Battle of Belgium (12000 words). Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 02:55, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support, per Ed. While I would normally expect to see some featured articles from someone nominated primarily for article work, the articles Dapi has worked on are sufficiently impressive—both in scale and importance—to support an award despite this. Kirill [talk] [prof] 03:08, 28 May 2011 (UTC)
- Support per above, working on such heavy and significant articles such as these takes a lot of effort and commitment. Woody (talk) 16:29, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support - Agree with the above. Although it's always nice to see FAs, the importance of the topics that he has taken to GA must be considered. Truly an asset to the 'pedia. Dana boomer (talk) 16:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support - As per the above; the scope of his work is very impressive, particularly articles like Battle of Sedan (1940), RAF Coastal Command, and the others mentioned above. Parsecboy (talk) 17:20, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Support: I have been impressed by Dapi's work for quite a while. Regarding awarding this: I believe that a majority of 8 is required (based on the figure of 15 co-ords). Given that currently we have a bit of a shortage of co-ords (I am only available occasionally now, Dank is on Wikibreak, and some of the others are also quite busy in RL) - would it make sense to say that this now has enough support for it to be awarded? Does anyone oppose this? Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 09:09, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

- Comment I hate to be the process wonk (and I've already supported above), but has Nikkimaria already been awarded the chevrons? More importantly, does it matter? EyeSerenetalk 09:49, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- I've always viewed that as more of a guideline, myself. Certainly, if there's consensus that someone deserves our highest recognition, I don't think it makes much sense to ignore that merely because we've failed to recognize them in the past. Kirill [talk] [prof] 12:52, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Sandy received the Oak Leaves in September 2007, and I think it's a fine time to grant them to her once again. During the last four years, Sandy has become a FAC delegate (in November 2007), overseen quite a few changes in the FA process, including the tightening of standards and the additions of several new delegates, and has successfully dealt with a myriad of problems within the process. If someone with more knowledge of FAC history in 2007 wants to rewrite/add/subtract/modify my blurb, please do. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 06:50, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Bahamut0013 was a driving force behind the battleship portal and the OMT pages, and made a good many contributions to articles within our scope. Bahamut has not received the Chevron award, but has received two reviewer awards and in light of contributions to both OMT and to the project as a whole I am petitioning for a special circumstances ruling for the issuing of this award. AustralianRupert
Now that AustralianRupert isn't a coordinator and is therefore eligible for the oak leaves, I'd like to propose the award because ... it would be a crime not to. More than anyone else, he defined our A-class process over his 1.5 years of coordship with his astounding number of reviews. He treated nominators and reviewers with dignity and kindness, without exception, and constantly pushed himself out of his comfort zone to cover a wide range of issues and topics. - Dank (push to talk) 18:53, 4 October 2011 (UTC)

I'd like to nominate Anotherclown (talk · contribs) in recognition of his enormous contributions to articles on Australian military history (which include 5 A-class and 15 GA-class articles) and the military history of other nations as well as his massive contributions to the article assessment and review processes, not to mention his many other contributions to keeping the project running. I think that this award is long overdue given Anotherclown's impressive record and the fact that he was a runner-up in the Military historian of the Year process for 2010 and 2011. The Content Review Medal of Merit
I'd like to nominate Nikkimaria (talk · contribs) for the Content Review Medal of Merit on behalf of the project. Every time I put up an A-class of FAC she's there to check the references. Great work. Hawkeye7 (talk) 11:53, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- Support This is an excellent nomination: Nikki has made a massive contribution to this very important, but unglamorous, side of the review process. Nick-D (talk) 12:02, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- As far as I know, the Content Review Medal of Merit can be freely awarded by anyone; it doesn't require a formal vote, so I'm not entirely sure what the point of this request is. Are you proposing that we establish a new formal awards process within the project? I wouldn't be opposed to that, but I would suggest that we create a more unique and "special" award for that rather than using one that's already in common circulation. Kirill [talk] 21:07, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- What I am proposing is that it be awarded on behalf of the project, rather than simply by myself. Hawkeye7 (talk) 21:36, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if that really makes sense as a one-off thing, considering we've already awarded Nikkimaria the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves on essentially the same basis; simply giving her a "lower" award doesn't seem like the best approach—particularly as we do already have a precedent for awarding the Oak Leaves themselves multiple times.
- Now, if the intent is to establish a more general principle of giving project-level awards to content reviewers (in addition to our ACM system, which is primarily oriented towards content creators), I would have no problem with that; in fact, I think we may have discussed something along those lines during one of the quarterly review awards cycles. However, as I mentioned above, I'd suggest coming up with something more unique (e.g. a Content Review Medal of Merit w/ Oak Leaves or something like that) for use as a project-level award rather than co-opting the existing one. Kirill [talk] 21:51, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- I agree with Kirill, although I think we should try to come up with our own name for it. :-) Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 22:31, 3 July 2012 (UTC)
- This suggestion/discussion is a year old -- is it time to remove (perhaps to the Coord talk page for further discussion and possible action)? I don't see the point of it remaining here in this form unto perpetuity... ;-) Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 00:30, 21 July 2013 (UTC)

Parsecboy (2)
I want to nominate Parsecboy (talk · contribs) for a second WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. He received the first Oak Leaves in July 2009 (almost four years ago) and he has created many more great articles since. The fact that he received eight A-Class medals with Swords since 2010 is indicative of his dedication to this project. I hope the coordinates second this opinion. Thanks MisterBee1966 (talk) 13:46, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

MisterBee1966 (2)
I want to nominate MisterBee1966 (talk · contribs) for a second WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. He received the award in February 2009 (four-and-a-half years ago) and he has created many more meticulously researched articles and lists since, including another five featured lists of Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross recipients (by my reckoning). He has received four A-Class Medals, five with Oak Leaves, and five with Swords since his first WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves, and this shows his commitment to the Military History WikiProject. He has served twice as a coordinator in that time, a six month stint in 2010 then a year in 2011–12. He has been very friendly and helpful to me when I've been working on biographies of Knight's Cross recipients that served in the Balkans, especially in locating hard-to-find details on awards, family life etc. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 13:53, 2 October 2013 (UTC)

Majestic Titan Editors (IAR request)
I that this is unprecedented in the history of the award, but in accordance with the reply to a question I left Sturmvogel 66 I would like to nominate Parsecboy (talk · contribs), Cam (talk · contribs), The ed17 (talk · contribs), Dank (talk · contribs), and Saberwyn (talk · contribs) to share a Chevron with Oak Leaves award for the roles that each played in assisting with the creation of the 63-article Featured Topic Battlecruisers of the World. In making this nomination I ask the community to consider the following:
- Each of the candidates has an equal claim to an award for the years long effort that they put into the total project by working on their corner of it,
- Each candidate who has helped by working on this Featured Topic has made contributions of truly incredible quality or importance in the area of military history, not only by completing the single largest FT to date on Wikipedia (and in the process allowing Milhist to share in the glory of the triumph), but this is also the first time ever one Wikipedia an entire classification of ships - battlecruisers in this case - has been unconditionally at or above GA-Class,
- In the spirit of IAR, these editors should be recognized for this outstanding accomplishment with an award, and though it is unprecedented I am asking that they be awarded a Chevron w/Oak Leaves as a group for what they accomplished.
I realize that this is the first time that such a request, and such a nomination, have been made, so I am prepared to accept a no answer if the community judges that our most prestigious award should not be handed out in this manner, however as I have said before in different ways, "nothing ventured, nothing gained."
- Support as nominator - TomStar81 (Talk) 02:10, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

- Support Hawkeye7 (talk) 12:17, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support, noting that this is also a case of IAR because two of the nominees are currently coordinators. For simplicity and consistency, should the award page list each of the five recipients individually, rather than having a single, combined listing? Kirill [talk] 01:33, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Honestly, I hadn't considered how this should be listed since I was fairly certain when I posted the nomination that it'd be shot down by now (needless to say, I'm pleasantly surprised :) I think that listing the recipients individually would be best, although listing the recipients altogether would save space and would allow for one master posting of the award rather than having the citation repeat five teams for each member. We have sometime to discuss the matter before the award is handed out, so we can solicit input from the other supporters on how best to present this. TomStar81 (Talk) 02:11, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support -- My first thought is that the award should be listed essentially the way it's been proposed, i.e. combined. This is after all a special variation of the award, and listing it combined makes it easier to ignore the 'no current coords' rule IMO. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 06:39, 15 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support -- I agree with a combined approach. In fact, I this might be a IAR case as Tom has proposed it, but perhaps it begs the question of whether we should have a formal system for group awards of the OAK, along the lines of the teamwork barnstar (ie a cluster of wiki chevrons with oak leaves? Pieces of collaboration such as this are worthy of a unique award, I mean, a 63 article featured topic? This type of long term collaboration surely helps with retention and maintaining a long-term focus. Peacemaker67 (send... over) 08:54, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Support as a combined award and combined listing, so as to not go too far off the reservation while ignoring all rules. Cdtew (talk) 18:47, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
Hchc2009
Scanning the nominees for MHOTY, I kicked myself for not having put forward Hchc's name, but unfortunately nominations had closed by that time. Considering other possible recognition, I checked the list of Oak Leaves recipients and was surprised to find his name missing there too. Well, that's something we can definitely rectify, so I hereby nominate Hchc2009 for the Oak Leaves for his exemplary work over the years on medieval history, biographies and fortifications, as evidenced by his successful A-Class and/or Featured Article nominations for Henry I of England, John of England, Peasants' Revolt, Bastille and Windsor Castle among others, many GAs, and also for his consistent efforts as a reviewer. I would like to nominate Sturmvogel for his second Oak Leaves. Sturm was awarded his first Oak Leaves over four years ago. Since that time he has continued his sterling performance as a major contributor to our WikiProject. This has included two years as a Coordinator (September 2010 to September 2012), three A-Class Medals, five A-Class Medals with Oak Leaves, and five A-Class Medals with Swords. He topped the recent February-March backlog drive, is a regular winner of the monthly contest, is a consistent and keen reviewer, and provides wise advice on various aspects of the WikiProject to all and sundry. The ed17
Ed is, simply, a MilHist institution. Co-opted as a coordinator in November 2008, he decided he liked the job, and only tore himself away from it when he declined to stand in the 2014–15 election just held. In November 2010 he became one half of the Bugle newsletter's first dedicated editing team, helping to put in place the format still in use today, and only left that position in September 2012 to focus on editing the Wikipedia Signpost. Along the way he's written or co-written an amazing 25 Featured Articles. Ed was a co-recipient of the (IAR) Majestic Titans Oak Leaves last year but, owing to his continuous service as a coordinator till now, this is his first nomination for a long-overdue individual award. Nick-D (2)
I nominate Nick-D for his second Oak Leaves. Nick was awarded the Oak Leaves in March 2010 at the conclusion of his last coordinatorship, a two year period from February 2008 to March 2010. Since then he has completed a second stint on the coord team, this time of three years from September 2011 to September 2014, including one year as joint lead coordinator. Since his first award, he's written (by my crappy maths), at least another 15 or so FAs, and has received two ACMs, five ACMs with Oak Leaves, and one with Swords, as well as getting buckets of GAs over the line. Nick has been a member of Operation Normandy and Operation Majestic Titan, all while continuing to work hard on articles, admin duties, editing the Bugle, and helping many with his sage and measured advice. I personally joined WP and Milhist just after Nick returned to the coord team, and benefited greatly from his advice and reviewing skills as I developed my own editing skills. Adam Cuerden
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: As most of you have at this point scene, we've got end of the year awards to hand out, but ahead of that I wanted to formally nominate Adam Cuerden (talk · contribs) for a Chevron with Oak Leaves award based on the unprecedented amount of featured media he has racked up for the project. I dare say that this man is probably single handedly responsible for making sure that so many of our articles on people, places, events and equipment have accompanying images of outstanding quality that I feel he has more than earned the award on the merit of his media edits.

Ian Rose (2)
I nominate Ian Rose for his second Oak Leaves. Ian was awarded the Oak Leaves in February 2009, and he has been a coordinator ever since until he stepped down at the recent election. This has been a pretty incredible run, topped off by an outstanding year as lead coordinator in the last tranche. If he hadn't been ineligible for the award during his years as a coord, he would almost certainly have been nominated before now, based on his work on the Bugle. Nuff said.

HJ Mitchell
Harry has been editing since 2009, and is an admin and oversighter. He's also an admin on Commons. In addition to his recently concluded four years as a coordinator of Milhist, he has been a great ambassador in the UK for our project through his involvement with Wikimedia events in the UK, such as Wikimania 2014. He fights vandals and has far more patience than I (sadly, that's not saying all that much). On a personal note, among his excellent FA/FLs are two articles about British generals, firstly a much-loved brigadier and secondly, a much-feared major-general (both of whom I worked for in Bosnia). It is always handy to have admins on the Milhist team to help sort things out, and Harry is always happy to lend a hand. Peacemaker67 (crack... thump) 09:38, 25 October 2015 (UTC)

I want to nominate Kierzek for the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. Kierzek is an active member of WikiProject Military History and has been editing on Wikipedia since March 2009. He has written 16 Good Articles and one of which is now A-Class. His editing is focused on the very sensitive area of the SS and I believe he has done a great job of presenting this topic neutrally, not an easy task. And lastly, I find him very helpful and cooperative. Thanks MisterBee1966 (talk) 10:53, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

MisterBee1966 (3)
In recognition of his long and distinguished career with the Military history WikiProject, I am nominating Mr. B for the Chevron with Oakleaves award as a final salute for all that he contributed to our project. In making this recommendation, I find that he served honorably as a coordinator for this project, made contributions of outstanding quality while active, and at the time of his retirement and departure he was under no restrictions or sanctions with regards to editing or interacting.

- Support. Kirill Lokshin (talk) 22:54, 3 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support: on the basis of IAR regarding length of time between drinks, due to his retirement. A problem that at least contributed to his retirement has to be that of the very hard line anti-Nazi de WP which is now being aggressively pushed here by a few editors, to the detriment of numerous articles and lists on which MB has worked assiduously over the years. I'll say here that having written up several Balkans-related Waffen-SS articles myself, and being highly sensitive to any sort of pro-Nazi bias, I have never seen any evidence of such bias in any of MB's work. His main area of contribution has been to improve coverage of recipients of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, which is a laudable area of endeavour. No-one should be seeking to undermine the merit of the actions of a member of the Wehrmacht because they were on the losing side, or because they were a member of the Nazi Party. It must be remembered that the Nazi Party was a popular mass movement in Germany, at least pre-war. If an individual committed crimes, or commanded a unit that did, that information should be explored in the article, of course. I think it is a great shame that such a productive editor has been hounded off WP (a least in part) by such actions, and suggest all coordinators keep a weather eye out for this behaviour. de WP is a very different beast from en WP, and has a very different culture regarding WWII topics. I don't think en WP will benefit from accommodating the hard line that is apparently standard there. Regards, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:56, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Support I've also had encounters with the diehard anti-Nazis, to my chagrin, and wish MrBee the best and believe that some time away will allow him time to regenerate. I do hope that he will reenter the fray at some point.--Sturmvogel 66 (talk) 03:14, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
- Comment Thanks folks for the nomination, but I can't accept this, please withdraw. Recent edits to the work I was and am being praised for show that it is not in line with our policies or what the community believes to be a good article (see here, here, here among many others). The question the project should ask, is the quality assurance process working, apparently not, as these edits show. Thanks again for the time and support, good luck to all. MisterBee1966 (talk) 08:21, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
- G'day, I have asked K.e.coffman if we could try to establish a process of review, to discuss these changes in a broader forum [7]. I'm not sure if this helps at all, MB, but I do hope you will get involved after you have had a bit of a break. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 21:44, 10 June 2016 (UTC)
K.e.coffman
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: I am nominating user K.e.coffman for the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. For just over a year now, K.e.coffman has exercised a stringent quality assurance program with a strong focus on German World War II related articles. His relentless effort has led to the deletion or redirection of numerous Knight's Cross recipients biographies (see Wikipedia talk:Notability (people)#KC recipients closed AfDs and Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Knight Cross recipients). Additionally, he is tirelessly advocating for the demotion of FAC, Military history A-Class and GA articles (some examples include Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Otto Kittel/1, Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Wolfgang Lüth/1, Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Joachim Helbig/1). Above and beyond this, he is making a tremendous effort at identifying and flushing out unreliable sources (examples include Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Additional input sought for a GAR re sources and Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard#Sources at Artur Phleps article). K.e.coffman editing history shows how consequently he deletes any intricate detail or inconsequential events, excessive cross categorization, overcited material unlikely to be challenged, unneeded iconography, over-templating, and any other Nazi fancruft. Testimonies of his achievements are well documented on his user page. With a bit of sarcasm in mind, his series of removals and diligence continues to amaze me. Cheers MisterBee1966 (talk) 08:36, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Support After a review of the editor in question I concur with the above nomination, this is well deserved. I also note that he has the chevrons from earlier in the year and is not currently a coordinator (for some reason I thought he was). A good man, a good nominations, and a good luck sendoff for the nomination. TomStar81 (Talk) 09:19, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- "Non-coordinator comment" this is an abuse of our awards system and should be withdrawn as it was done with ironic intent. It is clear that MisterBee1966 does not believe these things, and I'm afraid he has done the wrong thing with this nomination. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 09:48, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Nominee's comment: I accept the nomination, whether or not it was given in jest. I believe that it describes my contributions within the project to a T and I'd be honoured to receive the award. I would add it to my Vandal's Cross of the Iron Cross :-) and other awards and kudos. Thank you for your consideration. K.e.coffman (talk) 10:14, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- Suggest this be withdrawn: per Peacemaker, this is not a genuine nomination. AustralianRupert (talk) 12:34, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- I agree with Peacemaker67 and AustralianRupert. Kirill Lokshin (talk) 15:50, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- I concur with withdrawal suggestion. Move along, nothing to see here. Anotherclown (talk) 22:06, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
- @WP:MILHIST coordinators: Why are you assuming that the nomination is not genuine? It is my nomination and I am asking the coordinators to pass judgement on this request, I am not withdrawing the nomination. To my understanding, the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves is not a progress award like the A-Class Medal. According to Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Awards, it is awarded for
"The WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves are awarded by the project coordinators in the name of the project as a whole; they are intended to recognize editors who have made contributions of truly incredible quality [emphasis by me] or importance in the area of military history."
As K.e.coffman stated"I believe that it describes my contributions within the project to a T and I'd be honoured to receive the award."
The suggested withdrawal of the nomination more or less equates to opposing the nomination without stating why the coordinators are not supporting the nomination. Has K.e.coffman not made enough contributions of truly incredible quality? Please explain. Cheers MisterBee1966 (talk) 12:47, 22 November 2016 (UTC)- MisterBee1966, your opinion of K.e.coffman's work is hardly unknown to us, given our past discussions. What you've written above is, to put it mildly, somewhat inconsistent with that opinion; and, personally, I think the odds of a deathbed conversion on your part are rather low. Kirill Lokshin (talk) 14:02, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
- Who knows, may the odds are not so low? Just prior to MsterBee's retirement, our relationship was quite cordial. His review of the HIAG article was thorough and fair and resulted in improvements to the article, such as by breaking out the content that eventually became Waffen-SS in popular culture.
- I admire how conscientious an editor MisterBee is, and his attention to detail. I also find him to be a good reviewer; so if he decides to come back, I feel this would be the area he could add value. His participating in the recent KC holder discussion has been substantive. The outcome may not have been what MisterBee hoped for, but at least he did not accuse me of being "anti-German", like some editors did. It may surprise you guys but MisterBee has come down on my side in several Talk page discussions, such as at Mellenthin#Edit warring and Battle of Kursk#Manstein's plan.
- We've obviously disagreed on whether or not the Wehrmachtbericht transcripts belong in Wiki articles. This point was most recently discussed at London Gazette vs Wehrmachtbericht, and MisterBee seems to have accepted that the consensus regarding the matter had evolved.
- So I would not dismiss this nomination out of hand. K.e.coffman (talk) 05:14, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- If you don't get the irony, it isn't lost on the rest of us. "advocating for the demotion of FAC, Military history A-Class and GA articles" isn't exactly something you're going to get an award for. With this nomination, MisterBee1966 has wrongly attempted to get the coordinators to rule on whether your contributions are worthwhile. AustralianRupert and the rest of the coord team should just archive this now. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 05:25, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- So I would not dismiss this nomination out of hand. K.e.coffman (talk) 05:14, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- But I have received MilHist awards in the past for such activity. I was a recipient of the Military history reviewers' award, delivered by editor Peacemaker on 23 July 2016, for doing a GAR. It's listed in the Awards and kudos section on my user page.
- In December 2015 I received an honorable mention in the Military History Newcomer of the Year 2015 vote for "diligence and work on checking into unsourced claims and non-NPOV language of World War II and Waffen-SS related articles" ( link). If memory serves me right, I was nominated by MisterBee and nobody treated that as a sarcastic nomination.
- That's exactly what I've been doing for the past year, as MisterBee captured in the nomination. If such contributions were worthwhile then, would they not be worthwhile now? Editor TomStar81 seems to have concurred... What has changed then? (Besides, I would let coords decide what they want to do with the nomination, instead of telling them what they should or should not do). K.e.coffman (talk) 05:40, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
- Withdraw: I'm not convinced that this nomination is in good faith... Zawed (talk) 04:33, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
- Not awarded as there is no consensus to do so. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 13:01, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Hawkeye7
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: I would like to nominate Hawkeye7 for the Wikichevrons with Oak-Leaves. Hawkeye was elected as a coordinator of the Milhist project in September 2011 and was re-elected each year until standing aside at the end of the last tranche after five years of service. I was surprised to see that he hadn't been nominated before given he's been onwiki for over eleven years. He has 50! FAs, 86 A-Class articles and 232 GAs to his credit... He was our 2012 Military historian of the year, and runner up in 2014. Having been involved in doing some of the coordinator drudge work before he developed Milhistbot, it has made the job of coordinator so much easier than it was, and he deserves this award just for that, let alone his content and coord work. His series of articles on the Manhattan Project continues to amaze me, and is making a really important contribution to the encyclopaedia... I could say plenty more, like the hundreds of DYKs etc, but you get the drift I'm sure... Regards, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 09:28, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Nikkimaria
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: I hereby nominate Nikkimaria for her second Wikichevrons with Oak-Leaves, her first being in September 2011 . Nikki has under her belt four terms as a project coordinator, twelve successful Featured Article nominations, and countless image and source checks as one of our most prolific reviewers at A-Class and Featured level. She is also a Featured Article Review coordinator and has been nominated as Military Historian of the Year three times, taking third place last year. I don't know how she manages to be in so many places at once, I'm just glad she is, for WP would be a much poorer place without her. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 11:12, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Dank
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: I would like to nominate Dank for the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves in recognition of many years of dedication to the Military History project. Dan has been heavily involved with Milhist's review processes over many years, and has been instrumental in improving our standards for prose and copy editing. Through his copy editing and reviewing, I suspect that he would have had a hand in almost all of the FAs the project has produced over the past five or so years (if not longer). I have learnt a lot from Dan over the years, and I believe so have many others. He has also been a stalwart of the co-ord team for many years, first taking on a role in March 2010 and retaining a position for eight terms before taking a well deserved break. Beyond this, Dan also supports broader Wikipedia goals with his work on WP:TFA, and at WP:FAC, and elsewhere. I hope that you will find this a satisfactory nom. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) 06:53, 2 October 2017 (UTC)
- Support I was surprised to see that Dan had not received the Oak Leaves before. A massive contributor to our ACR reviewing throughput over the years, and although he tends to stick to FAC and TFA now, he's still in there plugging away on behalf of Milhist, improving prose and making excellent suggestions for improvements. Jackyd101
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: I would like to present Jackyd101 for your consideration to receive the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. Jackyd101 is an old stager, having been a member of the project since 2006 by my reckoning, with their main effort being focussed on the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars. They have an excellent content creation record, with 12 FAs, seven FLs, 112 GAs, DYKs out the yingyang, but also an unbelievable 241! GAN reviews to their credit! Given that GAN is one of the engine rooms of this project as well as WP as a whole, the GAN reviewing effort alone justifies this award in my view. Still very active in content creation after all these years, they currently have five articles in the GAN list. While I can't find an award of the WikiChevrons in their archives (our guidelines say a recipient should "generally" have already received the WikiChevrons), I believe this is an IAR situation. I hope you'll agree. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 06:32, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

AustralianRupert (II)
I would like to nominate AustralianRupert for a second WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves. AR received the Oak Leaves seven years ago, and since then he has been co-lead coord for one year, lead coord for three years and a coord for another. In that time he must have done hundreds of FA, A-Class and peer reviews, checked hundreds of entries and tallied the monthly contests, assessed hundreds of articles at MHAR and has been a major factor in the throughput of our assessment processes. Around all of that, he has also been a solid and collaborative content creator, as the recent FA Bougainville counterattack shows. As lead coord, he has been a great communicator and organiser, and as a coord he has always got stuck into whatever task was at hand. The only reason he has not been nominated for a second WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves before this is because he has been a coord ever since he reached the four-year mark after his first award. I hope you will join me and support this nomination. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 04:31, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support -- tks PM, this is an absolute no-brainer for someone who has given so much of themselves to the project, and always done so with courtesy and good humour. Cheers, Ian Rose (talk) 04:36, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support: like Ian said, a no-brainer. Zawed (talk) 05:09, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support: per nominator and supports above. He has given much in many ways. Regards, Cinderella157 (talk) 05:11, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- (non co-ord) Support AustralianRupert makes an outstanding contribution to all elements of this project, and has done an excellent job over recent years as both a coordinator and lead coordinator. In addition to his formal article and project work, he's always helpful and collaborative. Nick-D (talk) 11:19, 13 August 2018 (UTC)
- Support - AR's contributions to the project, in terms of content and in keeping this place running, are exemplary. Parsecboy (talk) 10:06, 17 August 2018 (UTC)

@WP:MILHIST coordinators: given we are down to 12 coords, this needs one more support to succeed. Thanks, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 03:20, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
- Awarded. Thanks everyone. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 09:58, 28 August 2018 (UTC)
Yann
@WP:MILHIST coordinators: About 72 hours after I handed out the awards for work done last year, one of the recipients - Yann - received word that his featured picture nomination cleared FPC and was officially promoted to a Featured Picture. The featured picture in question is none other than the legendary image known universally as Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima, an image every bit as iconic as the battle that resulted in the photograph in the first place. For his nomination of this image and its subsequent promotion to the Featured Picture pool I hereby nominate Yann for for the WikiChevrons with Oak Leaves.

- Comment I'm not sure about this. I agree it is iconic image, but it is just one image. While it may not have been when it was first created, these days the Oak Leaves are reserved for sustained high quality work over an extended period. For example, Adam Cuerden's Oak Leaves were for a long period of work on bringing media up to Featured quality, not just one image. This might explain why there hasn't been a lot of support votes here? Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 05:19, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
- I should add that unless the requisite support materialises in the next few days, it is my view that this nom can be archived, it has been open for a month. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 08:51, 10 February 2019 (UTC)
