Hello Dumelow, You had 3 flags for me in final section. Here's how I addressed them: 1-BS degree verification--the information lives on a PDF which is on her webpage at the University of Arizona, but I understand that we can't use PDFs. So, I eliminated that paragraph on her education, since her master's degree is mentioned elsewhere and verified. 2-Her 2021 Bessie Award now has a citation. I did not add a cite for the first sentence in the first awards paragraph, since both the 2021 and 2023 awards are cited immediately thereafter. 3-I found a different source for the Mad Hot Ball award; hopefully it is ok. Hi Wroliver, I've approved the hook about her having been a sergeant. It should now work its way through the system and appear on the main page at some point in the future. DYK is unfortunately set up a little differently to other pages. The nominations are on subpages such as Template:Did you know nominations/LaTasha Barnes so the usual reply links don't work. If you watch (click the star at the top) that page it will be noted a few days before it's due to appear on the main page. Good work on improving this article, it is in much better shape now. Hi Dumelow,

I wanted to extend a heartfelt thanks for all your amazing work on featured content over the years, and let you know that one of your DYKs (for Flat-roofed pub) has gone viral on TikTok and Instagram.

For the last month, my team at the Wikimedia Foundation has been remixing DYKs into short videos for these platforms to learn if this could be a way to help new generations find their way to the encyclopedia and maybe start editing. The flat-roofed pubs video has been the most successful one so far, reaching about 300,000 people and generating thousands of likes and comments! This has given our new TikTok account enough followers to start linking directly to Wikipedia content, and we hope this will bring in more readers and potential future editors :)

Thanks Maryana. Wow, it really did take off didn't it? It did pretty well on its DYK appearance (21k views) but others of mine easily surpassed it:
  • ... that in 1952 a 19-year-old footman shot Lady Derby and three members of staff (23k views)
  • ... that French Army infantrymen wore red trousers (example pictured) from 1829 until 1914?(25k views)
  • ... that the legs of the statue of Alfred the Great in Southwark (pictured) are at least 1,600 years older than the torso? (28k views)
  • ... that in 1253 Henry III of England ordered that his white bear (sculpture pictured) be permitted to swim and hunt in the River Thames? (28.5k views)
  • ... that the Hungry Tree in Dublin is "eating" a park bench (pictured)? (30k views)
  • ... that the 1514 horned helmet of Henry VIII (pictured) has spectacles and a toothy grimace? (36k views)
  • ... that on special occasions, the city of Gloucester supplies a pie made from lampreys (lamprey pictured) to the British monarch? (39k views)

  • Update: Sycamore Gap Tree did alright, but Elver Eating World Championships really took off! (TikTok, Instagram) It's getting good reach and has already netted us even more followers on TikTok than Flat-roofed pubs. I don't typically recommend reading the comments on social media, but the comments on this video are also quite interesting: people are expressing surprise and excitement to see Wikipedia showing up in their feed, and they're sharing this video with friends much more than any of the others. Thank you again for creating this great content!

Perhaps. I have found myself becoming much more apathetic with regards to infoboxes over recent years and prefer to spend the time on writing more content instead. Doh, thanks. I was missing a deckhand and have fixed this in the article. I've also added the CWGC link as a ref, as this is what confirms the positions. I can't remember how I stumbled across the story but the connection to the bombardment of Scarborough intrigued me; I had no idea that mines were laid in that same raid and went on to arguably have a more devastating impact. Plus these chaps having to go out on Christmas Day essentially in a fishing boat hoping to snag the mines and blow them up - Dumelow (talk) 16:55, 29 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
