Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

Hello WikiProject Indigenous peoples of the Americas:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

Central America and Caribbean

Just to leave a note about the state of content: the articles on Indigenous Guatemalans and Indigenous Hondurans are slim and need expansion. There are no articles about Indigenous Nicaraguans, Indigenous Belizeans, Indigenous Salvadorans, or the Indigenous peoples of French Guiana. Nor are there comprehensive articles about the Indigenous peoples of any Caribbean countries, such as Cuba or Puerto Rico. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 02:09, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Indigenous people of Cuba at the time of European contact were the Guanahatabey and the Taino, with the Taino also being the Indigenous people of Puerto Rico. While a large proportion of the genetic heritage of the people of Cuba and Puerto Rico is from Indigenous peoples, identifying any living group of people in those countries as Indigenous is controversial. Any article about Indigenous Cubans or Indigenous Puerto Ricans is likely to largely duplicate the Taino article. While I have made a few edits on the archaeology and pre-Columbian history of the Caribbean and hope to do more, those two articles would be low priority to me. Unfortunately, my to-do list has been growing for almost 20 years, with some potential articles still on it after more than 15 years. So yes, the articles you mention need creation or expansion, but I am afraid I will not be contributing much to the area for a while yet. Donald Albury 15:40, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
