There is a requested move discussion at Talk:UniTeam Alliance#Requested move 10 October 2024 that may be of interest to members of this WikiProject. HueMan1 (talk) 13:50, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

it has been just months since I opened threads about musical artists mostly known in PH or Asia (including or excluding Japan), and the thing about Western music in radio in PH and elsewhere in Asia here, but I have been able to discover some sources (mostly archived Billboard articles) that could help with this question. Some points are with Asians' (specifically E and SE Asians) fondness for the sentimental ballad and softer music (both local and international), the trend in the 90s for Western artists (particularly those who have few to no chart hits in the likes of the Billboard charts as the 90s entered due to the trend toward alternative rock and hip-hop during that decade, as well as many newer Australian acts from that time such as Rick Price, Obsession, etc.) to take on the Asian music market, and demand for Western music for use in karaoke.

One particular note, I just took hold of some Billboard articles in regard to Tiffany, resolving to some degree the question why PH stations continue to play some of her softer, sentimental songs such as "Could've Been", "All This Time, "If Love is Blind" and "Can't You See" (or even the album track "Hearts Never Lie"). Ah, Tiffany remained popular across East and Southeast Asia as the 90s entered, and her debut album in 1986 sold at least ~500,000 across Asia. Just added sources and these findings to her main article as well as the 1993 album containing "If Love Is Blind" and "Can't You See" (which had some sentences requiring cites). TagaSanPedroAko (talk) 00:39, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Is this list article even necessary? At the very least, it can be merged with Rainbow Rumble#Episodes but focusing on salient details: episode date, team name, contestants (in linear list like this that I am writing now, not bulleted/vertical list), and the episode winner. We don't need to know the ratings of each episode; that may be leaning to WP:FANCRUFT, which is an issue in many Philippine showbiz articles. The list itself is FANCRUFT to me, and multiple sources are WP:NIS and non-independent (e.g. ABS-CBN Entertainment) and are from social media like Instagram, but WP:RSPINSTAGRAM and WP:SOCIALMEDIA. Notable game shows of the past like Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal and Game Ka Na Ba? do not even have separate episode list articles. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 00:40, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

I also have an issue similar to this concerning the article Kalokalike: Face 4, which the creator of this article also made. If you look at the sections Daily Rounds and Semi-Finals, you will see that each episode is highly detailed, from the contestants and their acts, down to the names of the judges and their ratings of those contestants. Most cited references point to video clips of episodes published by those non-independent of the subject.
Overall, the sections function like a very detailed list of each episode (like a database) which may or failing WP:NOTDATABASE. It also makes the article look more like a stand-alone list instead of a normal article. AstrooKai (Talk) 14:45, 15 October 2024 (UTC)
In all honesty, I wouldn't mind if these were soap operas. But game shows somewhat fall into a WP:ROUTINE category of television programming without a dynamic narrative to justify branch articles. Borgenland (talk) 14:58, 15 October 2024 (UTC)

On top of that, several entries in Category:Lists of Philippine drama television series episodes may need to be reviewed for possible issues like WP:FANCRUFT and WP:NIS. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 00:43, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Started now the deletion discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Rainbow Rumble episodes. All succeeding comments are best posted there instead of this discussion thread. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 02:52, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Marco Masa

See Talk:Marco Masa (actor). It is ridiculous to keep the disambig. Borgenland (talk) 13:05, 19 October 2024 (UTC)

There have been articles sprouting around, more so on local elections. These are all using the old {{Election box}} templates, which are clunky, and you still need a calculator. The national elections are all using {{Election results}} now, and are automatically calculated. These are series of articles are not consistent and we should move on to {{Election results}} as most people do not bother to add percentages anyway, so the new templates avoids that. See 2022 Manila local elections on how it looks.

Also, candidate lists also violate MOS:COLHEAD. We should probably find a new way to present these lists.

Tagging @IIgnacio, @BhlJRama, @Einahr, @Jpg0813, @WhiteStar2000, @PH 0447, @EdrianJustine, @James100000, @Jethski05 to have the results tables converted to the templates, so that our senate elections and local elections all look consistent. Howard the Duck (talk) 23:52, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia Maguindanaon

Hello! I am a Maguindanaon native speaker so basically I started making translations for the infobox template for the language in the incubator. I may have some questions regarding the template for the infobox. Thanks! Bangsa Manusia (talk) 04:53, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Bangsa Manusia. Glad to hear that a Maguindanaon Wikipedia is coming! What are your questions about the infobox? I presume this is for the Incubator? --Sky Harbor (talk) 10:31, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Hello, I wanna know where to find the list of infobox templates in order to translate every templates so nothing's left behind. Thanks Bangsa Manusia (talk) 11:38, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
As templates are frequently created and deleted, there isn't really a master list. You may be best copying over a selection you find needed for the needs of Maguindanaon Wiki. For this see mediawikiwiki:Help:Templates#Copying from one wiki to another. CMD (talk) 13:21, 22 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, I'm currently translating in translatewiki but I'll look it up next time Bangsa Manusia (talk) 08:21, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Philippines news archives

I'm currently working on a draft for 1967's Typhoon Anita, however, I haven't been able to find a lot of news covering it, despite killing at least 52 people (20 direct, 32 indirect). Are there any news archives in the Philippines which include news that dates back to 1967 or older? Tavantius (talk) 16:13, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

You may try seeing the New York Times on that. Borgenland (talk) 16:24, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
@Tavantius: Online, there is practically none. You may have some luck looking at periodical archives in some physical libraries like the National Library of the Philippines, but I myself have not been able to visit to check if they (or other libraries) have good periodical archives. If you can broaden the scope to use non-Philippine sources, you can try to use news sources from The Wikipedia Library, but most of those newspapers will, of course, not be Filipino. Chlod (say hi!) 16:42, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Rizal Library has them in microfilm. Borgenland (talk) 16:54, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
Your best bets are what you can find elsewhere. Google Newspaper Archive has Philippine entries, and the earliest go only up to 1987 via the Manila Standard. The Global Press Archive has a Southeast Asian collection that includes the Philippines; these are during the American occupation of the country in the early 20th century.
So for your specific question, there are next to none in the internet, but if you want to go to a library there should be something that you can find. Howard the Duck (talk) 22:20, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
For older periodicals, I usually recommend the UP Diliman Main Library Open Access Repository. That said, not everything is digitized: their coverage of 1967 is scant, with the only news-related periodicals available being a few issues of The Bicol Star and the Philippine Panorama. Not sure if any of those could help, but if there are digitized newspaper archives available, you will need to access them from the library in question (usually the Ateneo de Manila's Rizal Library or the National Library's collections). --Sky Harbor (talk) 16:34, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Divisions section in infoboxes of provincial articles

I'm not sure if this has already been discussed (did a quick search of the archives) but I think listing all cities and municipalities under a Template:Collapsible list in the infobox is too much detail and is basically redundant with the corresponding section in the article body. See Pangasinan for an example. I think it's enough to state how many cities and municipalities a province has in the infobox but not to list all of them there. —seav (talk) 21:57, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

See also Metro Manila's infobox. I'd agree on this, like x municipalities, y component cities, also associated with z independent component/highly urbanized cities. Also, we'd also do not have to list every board member or councilor. Just the party standing like (PFP 5, Lakas 5, nonpartisan 2) should suffice.
Also, since we're into LGU articles, several articles all elected officials as "Members of the municipal council", e.g. La Trinidad, Benguet#Elected officials. Contrast that with Iba, Zambales#Government which does it right; only the councilors and the vice mayor are members of the Sangguniang Bayan, I'd even include the ABC, SK and IPMR (if any) as members. I'd rather do this after the election, and remove such captions, and just call it as "Elected officials". Howard the Duck (talk) 23:23, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
What's our course of action here, removed such collapsible lists in infoboxes? There are just 82 provinces, and is doable. Howard the Duck (talk) 00:30, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
I !vote to delete the lists. Not sure if we should just indicate numbers, or add a link like with Guiuan (and other city/municipality articles), and/or add a footnote about ICCs and HUCs. —seav (talk) 01:04, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
I've checked California and Bali, first-level subdivisions, and they don't have something like this in the infobox. I've searched further, and we can emulate what Hauts-de-Seine does. I'd be wary on HUCs and ICCs; these should be clearly distinguished that those are not under provinces. Here in Wikipedia, I've seen "Naga is geographically in Camarines Sur"... which doesn't make sense as Camarines Sur is a province and a natural feature. Even if say, "Cebu City is geographically in Cebu", yes it is geographically in Cebu island, but Cebu provinces is a political unit. I'd not exclude these though, and just some add some note about this. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:22, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

MILF

The article describes the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the past tense, but isn't the decommissioning still ongoing? And we still have several ridos involving the group. Borgenland (talk) 03:22, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Yes, the group is still extant. It was a secessionist group, but it still definitely exist as an organization. Hariboneagle927 (talk) 03:40, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
In that case I am updating the was in the first sentence. Borgenland (talk) 04:16, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Articles for optional LRT-1 station are created too soon?

Seeking the advice of railfans here. I think these articles, Manuyo Uno station and Talaba station, violate WP:CRYSTAL and are basically cases of WP:TOOSOON. I've sort of followed the developments of the LRT-1 extension including the impending opening of the 1st phase up to Dr. Santos station but there has never been any serious mention of these proposed Manuyo Uno and Talaba stations. Personally, I think both stations are awkwardly placed. —seav (talk) 09:35, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

Agree, proposed stations are usually not notable. A quick google search for similar cases turned up Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/George Street railway station which was a redirect. These could be draftified I suppose, although most of their text is general LRT information. CMD (talk) 11:57, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Manuyo Uno and Talaba were actually designed as part of the LRT-1 South Extension proposals of years past, but as far as I know have only recently been made "optional". If there is information that points to the notability of these stations, then I don't see why we should keep them, but if there isn't then it would be a better idea to draftify them so we have them for later when the stations actually get built out. --Sky Harbor (talk) 18:25, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

Based on the comments above, I boldly moved both to the Draft space where they won't bother regular stations until they're needed. —seav (talk) 22:14, 28 October 2024 (UTC)

Apparently, you can't draftify articles that are older than 90 days per WP:DRAFTNO and this move has been reverted by CFA. Per WP:BRD, if nobody objects or suggests an alternative course of action by tomorrow, I will start an AfD for these two articles and we can then formally discuss their merits and notability and they could potentially be deleted or maybe properly (instead of boldly) draftified. —seav (talk) 00:15, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi, everyone! Given that there are no objections or proposed alternative courses of action, I went ahead and nominated both these for AfD. —seav (talk) 21:05, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

NIR template

Created Template:User Negros today. I notice a lot of flags and template aren't made that concern the Philippines.

This user lives in the Negros Island Region (NIR) of the Philippines.

Dennis Brown - 12:39, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Is this the only regional thing we have? I've been trying to find one up north. Borgenland (talk) 14:45, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Just make it yourself, borrow the code, create. Or if you like, just ping me with what you want. They are pretty easy to make, but I will for you if you like. I'm going to move from Mindanao to DGT in January, so I made it myself. NIR is a new entity, I'm curious if that means I will have to drive from Dumaguete to Bacolod for some govt. services since they will be splitting govt functions between the two "former" province capitals. That is an unusual setup, and not exactly a short drive. Dennis Brown - 23:55, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

I've been running the page through Earwig showing alarming copyvio from pertinent laws but am not sure if there are exemptions under public domain if it came from a private repository, not the OGRP. Borgenland (talk) 15:17, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Private repositories were not the original authors of the law so... Howard the Duck (talk) 16:29, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Exactly this. An exact copy of public domain content on a non-free website does not make it non-free. Chlod (say hi!) 16:34, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
I'd recommend replacing the link to the Official Gazette, Congress or Supreme Court (if available) though to avoid this. Howard the Duck (talk) 16:37, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
I replaced the Lawphil reference to a Senate.gov link. --- 06:41, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Rappler.com

Is there anyone from this WikiProject capable of accessing this article posted to Rapper.com. The article is given as the source for File:SM City Caloocan Interior.webp, but registration is required to see the full article. The few images that I can see aren't licensed the same way as the uploaded file, which makes me wonder whether license chosen by the uploader is correct. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:43, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: I can access the article without registration. I see the image, with the same caption and author. It does not have a free license declaration. Chlod (say hi!) 01:58, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Category:Second ladies and second gentleman

Please check the Categories for deltion for Second ladies and gentlemen of the Philippines it has been an impasse and would probably benefit for or against deletion of said category.05:11, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Template:WikiProject Tambayan Philippines Edit request to accommodate Philippine music task force

Hi there, I’d like to bring to your attention the WikiProject talk banner template. I'd like to add the Philippine music task force to sort those under the task force's scope. I’ve already made an edit request on the template’s talk page since it is template-protected. I’m hoping an admin or a template editor can make the necessary changes to accommodate the newly established Philippine music task force. Thanks in advance! – Relayed (t • c) 08:54, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Done. See Template talk:WikiProject Tambayan Philippines#Edit request 9 November 2024 for further info. Thanks! :) Chlod (say hi!) 09:21, 9 November 2024 (UTC)

Stuck on early life...

Hello. I have working on the Glaiza de Castro article for quite some time now, aiming for GA and eventually FA. I am now on the part where I expand the article, starting with adding an Early life section... however, I have exhausted all available reliable sources that talk about her birthdate, birthplace, family, and education.

I have checked Rappler, GMA, ABS-CBN, Inquirer, Philstar, and PEP—because CNN Philippines is no longer here, and I have found no books or academic papers about the subject.

In fact, I'm considering removing the statements about de Castro being "born January 21, 1988" in "Valenzuela, Philippines" because every source I've found online seems to have gotten them from Wikipedia (unless reliable sources can also be found on them).

Please help. I've been working on this for over a month now while I go through my responsibilities as a Grade 12 STEM student. Your contributions, help and ideas are highly appreciated. Thanks! Ramkarlo82 (talk) 08:30, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

(add'l I forgot to add earlier) Are there any sources I may have missed out about de Castro's early life? It would really help if they could be found. Also, I wanted to submit the article for peer review if not for one of its guidelines that states that "Articles must be free of major cleanup barriers", which the article has (Update—acting career, BLP sources section—filmography, awards and nominations). But since I can't PR request the article, I chose to go here instead. Ramkarlo82 (talk) 08:44, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Is "Glaiza de Castro" a stage name? If it is, maybe you can find sources using her birth name. Howard the Duck (talk) 11:43, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Sorry... I have found fewer articles from reliable sources that use her birth name, "Glaiza Castro Galura", let alone talk about her early life.
But I have a development: though the birthplace is still not yet confirmed, I found an article that mentions the date "January 21" from before the article was created on September 8, 2007. However, the phrasing is unclear if it does refer to her birthday or not at all.
https://www.pep.ph/news/local/214/glaiza-de-castro-releases-self-titled-album — published on January 22, 2007, the article says "It took five years for Glaiza de Castro to release her follow-up album after she released her first album at the tender age of thirteen. Now, the girl is officially a lady after celebrating her debut on January 21 last year."
What kind of debut could have happened on January 21, 2006 (the "last year" in 2007)? I'm stumped here too... Ramkarlo82 (talk) 12:00, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
For actors, it may be indeed hard to find RS on birth years, but for birthdays you can search first on social media, then confirm with an RS. Howard the Duck (talk) 12:14, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Bit of a long shot, but try say finding a Chika Minute report on her publicly celebrating a birthday then cross check with RS similar to Mx. Duck. Borgenland (talk) 13:07, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
Well... upon closer analysis of the PEP article, I concluded that "celebrating her debut" more likely means "celebrating [her] 18th birthday" in this context. (I know that meaning of debut as well as more universal meanings like "first appearance", but I just had to reread to ensure that not the wrong meaning is used.) I will cross check it with a better RS later.
That now leaves birthplace, family and education (and other details publicly shared). I may have indeed missed some sources that may mention them, but since I am busy with academics... this won't be my priority now. I will be welcome to any help I receive (through here, since I can't request PR as I mentioned earlier) with improving and expanding the article while I'm not that active here Ramkarlo82 (talk) 13:21, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

South China Sea Arbitration Tribunal's position on the Award

The "Tribunal's position on the award" section of the South China Sea Arbitration contains a position of the Tribunal that appears to have been deliberately cherry-picked for emphasis. Can someone look at it and perhaps, expand and improve it? Sanglahi86 (talk) 15:00, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
