Connecticut infobox vote

[edit]

Please consider the following question: should we as a project include transportation in the infobox of a municipality?

There is no particular standard to go by. Some articles have their airport(s) listed such as Louisville, Kentucky and Chicago while some do not such as Salt Lake City and Seattle. The same is true for roads, bus-lines, and rail. With over 20 airports in the state and scores of cities and towns with bus and/or rail service, we should set a standard.

Please vote FOR or AGAINST inclusion. Voting will close at 12.01 (PM) on 11 November 2018.

  • Abstain - I have no particular inclination on this issue. Markvs88 (talk) 19:56, 27 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • For - I don't really have much issue with them in general. (I never removed the airport section off of Hartford, Connecticut, someone else did) Just don't add too many. —JJBers 02:38, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • For - Infrastructure such as major highways, airports and commuter rail lines are vital pieces of infrastructure to any city, and deserve mentioning in the infobox. Being that many other US cities list these items in their infoboxes, it seems only appropriate that Connecticut cities have the same pieces of information included in their infoboxes.--AirportExpert (talk) 20:45, 28 October 2018 (UTC)AirportExpert[reply]
  • Comment: I only offer one comment regarding infoboxes. Some infoboxes or their features do not allow for a left alignment of images. While the MOS warns against left alignment of images, it does not forbid the practice. Sometimes left alignment of narrow images is appropriate for placing them adjacent to the relevant text. I am currently dealing with an infobox which is preventing such a left alignment. I am offering this only as a consideration as to the downside of a long infobox in the context of incorporating left aligned images. This may be a consideration in determining how much content should be included in a particular infobox. Oldsanfelipe (talk) 23:30, 29 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's interesting, thanks for the heads up! Markvs88 (talk) 11:38, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • For - New York City actually does have its area airports (including Newark) listed in the infobox. I'm surprised at how relatively sparse the Connecticut articles' infoboxes are. For example, with Stamford, there should be both an interactive map and a pushpin map, the latter to instantly click on to delineate at minimum its location within the jurisdiction of the U.S. Castncoot (talk) 04:00, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
New York City's infobox still only lists the three major airports in the area. Hartford only has one major airport in the area. Plus, Hartford's infobox has more info than what NYC's infobox has. —JJBers 14:19, 30 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Are you looking at the same Hartford and Stamford pages that I am? Because they're pathetically sparse, without even a national pushpin map, like every other city of any significant size has got. We need to update these Connecticut pages to bring them out of the horse and buggy era and into the 21st century. Castncoot (talk) 16:34, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Connecticut seals & flags project

[edit]

As some of you might have noticed, I've spent some time uploading town seals onto the various town pages. However, there are some which I can not seem to find. Any help in this matter is appreciated.

Note: According to US Federal law (15 U.S. Code § 105, available here: [1], the trademark registration for the “flag or coat of arms or other insignia of . . . any State or municipality" is forbidden. Therefore all state and municipal flags and seals are de facto public domain.

Images

[edit]

WikiProject Connecticut uses Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Connecticut to monitor all Connecticut articles needing images. In addition, Wikipedian photographers living in Connecticut use the subcategories at Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Connecticut to locate those subjects near where they typically take photographs. The "imageneeded=" and "in=" parameters of {{WikiProject Connecticut}} populate the category.

  • To request an image for an article, use the "imageneeded=yes" parameter in the {{WikiProject Connecticut}} article talk page template. Please use the "in=" parameter in the {{WikiProject Connecticut}} template to specify the Connecticut county where the photograph may be taken. Up to three locations may be specified, such as {{WikiProject Connecticut|class=Start|importance=Low|imageneeded=yes|in=Litchfield County, Connecticut|in2=London|in3=New Haven County, Connecticut|unref=yes}}
  • If you need to specify four or more locations (such as a road passing through multiple Connecticut counties), use {{reqphoto}} and its multiple "in=" parameters.
