Oscar Isaac (born 1979) is an American actor who is credited with contributing to a change in the portrayal of Latinos in Hollywood. Born in Guatemala, Isaac moved with his family to the United States while an infant. An alumnus of the Juilliard School, Isaac was a character actor in films for much of the 2000s. After gaining recognition for playing supporting parts in Robin Hood (2010) and Drive (2011), Isaac had his breakthrough with the eponymous role of a singer in the musical drama Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), which earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He became an international star with the role of Poe Dameron in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (2015–2019). Isaac was named the best actor of his generation by Vanity Fair in 2017 and one of the 25 greatest actors of the 21st century by The New York Times in 2020. His accolades include a Golden Globe Award, a National Board of Review Award and an appearance on Time's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2016. (Full article...)

August 22: Madras Day in Chennai, India (1639)
- 1485 – Lancastrian forces under Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, defeated Yorkist forces under Richard III of England at the Battle of Bosworth Field, decisively ending the Wars of the Roses.
- 1639 – The Vijayanagara Empire leased a small strip of land in present-day Chennai, the capital of the modern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, to the East India Company.
- 1777 – American Revolutionary War: Benedict Arnold used a ruse to convince the British that a much larger force was arriving, causing them to abandon the siege of Fort Stanwix (reconstructed fort pictured).
- 1864 – Under the leadership of Henry Dunant and the International Committee of the Red Cross, twelve European states signed the First Geneva Convention, establishing rules for the protection of victims of armed conflict.
- 2015 – A former military aircraft crashed at an airshow at Shoreham Airport in southern England, killing eleven people.

The Premier League Golden Glove is an annual association football award presented to the goalkeeper who has kept the most clean sheets in the Premier League. In football a team's defense or goalkeeper may be said to "keep a clean sheet" if they prevent their opponents from scoring any goals during an entire match. In 2005, the inaugural Premier League Golden Glove was awarded to Petr Čech of Chelsea. Čech's 24 clean sheets in a single season remains the record. Since 2005 Čech and Joe Hart (pictured) have won the award on the most occasions with four successes each. Pepe Reina was the first goalkeeper to achieve back-to-back wins of the award, managing to do so in three consecutive seasons between 2005 and 2008. Hart later repeated the achievement with Manchester City between 2010 and 2013, as did Ederson with the same club between 2020 and 2022. (Full list...)

Wells Cathedral is a Church of England cathedral in Wells, Somerset. Construction commenced around 1175 on the site of a late-Roman mausoleum and an 8th-century abbey church. The cathedral has been described by the historian John Harvey as Europe's first truly Gothic structure, lacking the Romanesque work that survives in many other cathedrals. It is the seat of the bishop of Bath and Wells.
