[edit]Help with the articles of He Chao
[edit]I need help here. I just put in the reference for He Chao where he was compete for the Men's Synchronized 3 meter Springboard Diving at the Hanghzou 2022 Asian Games, along with the partner and teammate Yan Siyu. 108.21.67.83 (talk) 11:33, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- IP editor: You have made a number of changes, and you have also mentioned them on the article's Talk Page. Unfortunately, one of the sources, news.cgtn.com, you added is not reliable, in fact it is deprecated, which means that the consensus of Wikipedia editors is that it should never be used. See WP:CGTN. Either provide a reliable source or remove the information entirely. Biographical articles for living people must follow the policy at WP:BLP. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:22, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- I'm truely sorry. I was going to keep looking for the reference for He Chao. Maybe I should get it right eventually but not a deprecated reference that aren't good. I tried everything. Forgive me. 108.21.67.83 (talk) 15:02, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, IP editor! Don't feel bad; no need to apologize. Everybody makes mistakes when learning to edit Wikipedia – it's humanly impossible to learn every policy and practice before starting, so having mistakes corrected is how we all learn – it's our standard procedure as described at WP:BRD. Mike Turnbull wasn't admonishing you, he was just giving you information. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.212.130.182 (talk) 18:33, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. I shall study about the information which was in the news, that's all. 108.21.67.83 (talk) 19:34, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

IP user revert-warring
[edit]In article EMD Class 66, an IP user absolutely wants to add a modification that I consider useless and confusing. Twice now, the IP user has reverted my reversal. Wanting to avoid the 3RR issue, I come here for help. I am particularly annoyed with the IP user reverting without any kind of argument or justification. What to do? Help pages recommend discussion, but how can I discuss with an IP user? Jan olieslagers (talk) 13:00, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Jan olieslagers: You open a discussion on the article's talk page. Create a new section there, and make your argument and ask the other party to comment there. Then revert a final time and include "please discuss on the talk page" in the edit summary. -Arch dude (talk) 14:14, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Jan olieslagers Your first step should be to state your position on Talk:EMD Class 66, which I see hadn't been used for over six years. That will help alert other page watchers to the issue. Although IP users can't be pinged, they do have Talk Pages and you should also post there asking them to engage on the article's Talk Page. The dispute seems relatively small but if necessary, follow the advice at WP:DR. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:11, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks to both. Comment in talk page has been added - now see what comes of it. And yes, the dispute is not life threatening :) but I hate it when people revert without any comment or argumentation. Jan olieslagers (talk) 15:06, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Also I added a comment on the IP user's talk page; to judge from what I found there, the effect will not be noteworthy, but one never knows, of course. Jan olieslagers (talk) 15:27, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
What happened on this page? JackkBrown (talk) 14:46, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown: The error message in the infobox, which you should be able to see as well as I can, states "Lua error in Module:Location_map at line 522: Unable to find the specified location map definition: "Module:Location map/data/eee" does not exist." So I guess that the map specified in the infobox (
map_type=eee
) can't be found. Bazza (talk) 15:01, 4 October 2023 (UTC) - The article was vandalised in the edit immediately before yours, @JackkBrown. I've reverted it and all is now well. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:02, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Does the title of this page go in italics? JackkBrown (talk) 16:46, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Italics are only one of the article's problems. it:Ottobre in Poesia was deleted in 2015. TSventon (talk) 17:35, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @JackkBrown: No, festivals are not italicized. GoingBatty (talk) 17:49, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Category adding tool
[edit]Is there a tool that more easily adds categories to articles that is not HotCat GameOfAwesome (talk) 17:46, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @GameOfAwesome: Hi there! There is commons:Help:Gadget-Cat-a-lot, which I have never tried. GoingBatty (talk) 17:52, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Union Railroad magazine
[edit]I am searching for issues dating to the 1950s which contained pictures taken by Dave Beverage. A conductor. Of a Pennsylvania Black Bear licking honey he applied to it's nose. I think the magazine was called the "Headlamp." James Joseph Klaus James Joseph Klaus (talk) James Joseph Klaus (talk) 17:51, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- @James Joseph Klaus: Hi there! This help desk is meant for questions about how to use or edit Wikipedia. You could try the Wikipedia:Reference desk. GoingBatty (talk) 17:53, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
Reporting someone
[edit]How do I report someone that made a verbally abusive comment on my talk page? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 19:23, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Don't report someone for a single inappropriate comment. I've left a low-level WP:NPA warning on the user in question's talk page for you. Meters (talk) 19:38, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Per WP:OWNTALK you are allowed to remove almost anything from your own talk page, so that comment, or the entire thread can be blanked. Meters (talk) 19:52, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that and giving me advice. But I am not going to tolerated that sort of behavior so I can feel like crap again. Is there any way I can block him? ILoveSport2006 (talk) 20:30, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- You can ask a user not to post on your talk page, and normally most users will respect that, but if they don't it could be posssible to WP:PBLOCK them, but you'll need to convince an admin that it is necessary to stop ongoing disruption. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:34, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for responding. ILoveSport2006 (talk) 20:36, 4 October 2023 (UTC)

- If it was a single attack, it's probably best to ignore it. See Wikipedia:No personal attacks#Responding to personal attacks. Sorry if that's not what you'd like to hear. DonIago (talk) 21:16, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
- It's ok :) Thanks to everyone who helped ILoveSport2006 (talk) 22:06, 4 October 2023 (UTC)
