[edit]userboxes
[edit]Everytime I go to look or insert a userbox on my user page, I always forget where it it is. Can someone tell me or give me a link please??
Thanks,

- @Purplelavendermidnights 17: I am not entirely certain what "it" is, but if you are looking for a list of all the userboxes, the link is WP:Userboxes/Galleries. If you are looking for your own user page, you can click your username at the very top of every page. Tollens (talk) 03:55, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Purplelavendermidnights 17 You could of course place the link Tollens provided into your Userpage and it would be there in future when you needed it! I keep all sorts of useful links on my page. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:21, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- thanks! I meant for the lists.

why my article declined again
[edit]Dear Editor,
I provided a draft that is dedicated to my supervisor Prof. Stefanoi De Marchi who is a great Mathematician.
I tried to write it complete and refer to all his achivements. I have seen many artticles about the other Mathematicians that are not so novel that have been already published in Wikipedia. But I do not know my draft is declined over and over. Please have a look at my draft. The links and references that I put in this draft show that Prof. De Marchi is a briliant Mathematician and I want to make this page in order to introduce him more to the young Mathematicians.
Thank you in advance,
Best regards Drmohammadimath (talk) 04:51, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Courtesy link: Draft:Stefano De Marchi Tollens (talk) 04:52, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Drmohammadimath: Right now, the draft contains no sources that are independent of the subject. Before the draft can be accepted, it will need at least three reliable sources, independent of the subject (his own works and works by his friends do not count), containing significant coverage of him (not just passing mentions). Wikipedia does not use the typical meaning of the word 'notability' โ while in everyday language it simply means "worthy of note" (which this person very well may be), here it means "discussed in reliable sources", and as of now this has not been demonstrated in the article. Tollens (talk) 04:59, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Drmohammadimath, when I search for Stefanoi De Marchi on Google Scholar, page after page of results are for a heart disease specialist by that or a similar name. I do not see any easily accessible results in the scientific literature for the mathematician. Perhaps you should wrote a biography of the cardiologist first, if your goal is to improve the encyclopedia. Cullen328 (talk) 05:05, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- His Google scholar page is this and he has a lot of citation as you can see.
- โชStefano De Marchiโฌ - โชGoogle Scholarโฌ
- Thanks. Drmohammadimath (talk) 09:08, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Many thanks for your reply.
- But in some of the references and links I provided he does not have any role. I can see a lot of pages in Wikipedia for some other Mathematicians who are less brilliant than him but with a published page. Actually I do not know how I can Improve this page more.
- Thanks a lot. Drmohammadimath (talk) 09:07, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Drmohammadimath For academics, Wikipedia has agree a set of notability criteria that are listed at WP:NACADEMIC. Please read that page carefully and consider whether De Marchi can be demonstrated to meet one or more of them. If so, redraft your article to reflect this and add a comment at its top to show which criterion you think he meets. Note 1) the draft must be compliant with this policy and 2) "less brilliant" is your personal opinion, while it is more likely that these other articles have been accepted because they do demonstrate how the individuals pass the notability threshold. How to find out the edit count of pages with templates?
[edit]I am trying to find out the total edit count for 2023 of the page Wikipedia:Deletion review. If I go to view history, page statistics, year counts, you can see a sharp drop from 14,000 edits to 100. This is because of the use of templates to organize the requests. Are there ways to be able to see the true total of edits of the page? Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 05:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Look at the history and count. There's 4.Or 5125, if you actually meant edits to the daily subpages and not "true total edits", which really is 4.And if you really meant "changes to pages during the time they happened to be transcluded on Wikipedia:Deletion review", that's not just-write-a-query level of difficulty, it's many-billable-hours level of difficulty, unless someone's happened to have already written a tool to do so (unlikely). There's no way to trivially get a list of all the templates a given page transcluded at an arbitrary time; it just happens to be mostly predictable for the daily logs. (Only mostly, because once in a while someone edits a subpage like that well after it's delisted, like so). โCryptic 06:03, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. You are correct, the page itself includes templates for each day that are edited in another page each separately. I was hoping there was a way to get a count of the whole year of the sum of edits in each template in the Deletion review page. I guess if I copy paste into a word counter each template page text, I can get what I am looking for. And as you indicated, it would take me around 6 hours... Sigh. Maybe with some SQL code it could be achieved faster. Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 06:15, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Nah, that's the easy case. 5125. The hard case is, say, looking at Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 October 9, seeing that it transcludes {{cite news}}, and trying to include edits to Template:Cite news during the time frame while that subpage was on DRV. And to any of Template:Cite news' subtemplates. (But only while both they were transcluded onto Template:Cite news and it was on the daily page and the daily page itself was on DRV.) It's turtles all the way down. The only instant of time when you can get the whole list of transcluded templates is "now". โCryptic 06:24, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- You are absolutely correct. And I didn't notice your SQL query. Neat! I appreciate it much. Regards, Thinker78 (talk) 06:52, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

Which noticeboard?
[edit]I thought that there was a specific noticeboard for reporting "all links to website.com broke" so that bots could fix it, but I forgot what the noticeboard was called and Google isn't much help. QuietCicada - Talk 12:46, 3 November 2023 (UTC)

How to autoconfirmed my Wikipedia account?
[edit]Hye, I am unable to publish my article from sandbox to live audience. I am unable to use 'Move' option in tool section. How can I autoconfirmed my account to publish articles from sandbox?
Maryam Akmal (talk) 13:21, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello Maryam. I have added a header to your sandbox which will allow you to submit it for review. This may take time (unpredictable - anything from minutes to months) but is very strongly recommended for inexperienced editors such as yourself. ColinFine (talk) 13:51, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- A couple of points to address before you submit it:
- Wikipedia (like other user generated sources) is not regarded as a reliable source for the purpose of references. Remove the citation.
- The article should begin by saying what the subject is. It is only when I saw the picture that I realised it was a building.
- Reference no 7 appears to have nothing whatever to do with the subject. Has this been generated by a Chatbot? --ColinFine (talk) 13:56, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Maryam Akmal You are now in the position of having two copies of your draft: one at User:Maryam Akmal/sandbox and the other at Draft:Astana Siraj-Ul-Ashqeen. This may confuse both yourself and the reviewers. Please continue to edit Draft:Astana Siraj-Ul-Ashqeen only, as that is the normal places for drafts, and blank your sandbox. Suggested edit to Omer Khadr article
[edit]How do I add the article to his Wikipedia profile? Here is the article that should appear as the first para in the Release para: On April 24, 2015, the Court of Queenโs Bench of Alberta, Canada ordered that Omar Khadrโs application for judicial interim release be granted, on appropriate terms. The decision was made based on unchallenged expert evidence before the Court that his appeal pending before the Court of Military Commission Review in Alexandria, Virginia, has a strong probability of success. The Bowden Institution of the Government of Canada did not file evidence in response to Khadrโs case regarding the strength of his appeal, or his suitability as a candidate for judicial interim release. The position of the Bowden Institution of the Government of Canada was that the Court should decline to exercise its jurisdiction in habeas corpus because granting bail pending appeal would constitute a breach of Canadaโs international treaty obligation to continue the enforcement of Khadrโs U.S. sentence, and is barred by the International Transfer of Offenders Act. The Bowden Institution of the Government of Canada also argued that Khadr has not established a Charter of Rights and Freedoms right to bail pending appeal. Rideau 318 (talk) 14:04, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Rideau 318 you can try adding that text directly to Omar Khadr, since the article is not protected. If someone disapproves, they will revert your edit, and you can discuss on the talk page. This is the bold-revert-discuss cycle. Sungodtemple (talk โข contribs) 14:10, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you Sungodtemple. What is in my suggested addition that is never acknowledged or discussed in Canada is that Khadr has a strong case for winning his appeal. As the reader will see, the Canadian Government did not dispute this point. They also did not dispute the point that Khadr poses no risk to public safety. The Conservative party in Canadian government at that time, before and after this court decision, continued to describe Khadr as a threat to society, a convicted terrorist, murderer, etc. The strength of Khadr's grounds for appeal, which he filed in 2013 is likely the reason that the US DOD has ignored it. If the DOD had a strong rebuttal to the appeal it would have been heard years ago. Rideau 318 (talk) 16:31, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Tony Hinchcliffe
[edit]Hi Wiki team,
I would like to thank you for all the hard work you are putting in. I have donated to this website and I feel that it is a wealth of information.
Please understand that the last part of the page written for Tony Hinchcliffe bio is not unbiased. There were multiple edit request by many users and all of them were ignored. I would like to understand why that is? Why are some sources acknowledged and some are ignored?
Shouldn't we put all the information we have on Tony Hinchcliffe and provide both sides of the story especially for his latest racial jokes?
Here is what is says in the Wiki
In May 2021, Hinchcliffe was videotaped insulting Peng Dang, an Asian American comedian who had introduced Hinchcliffe after performing the previous set at Vulcan Gas Company in Austin. Hinchcliffe said Dang was a "filthy little fucking chink", followed with a series of Asian stereotypes in a mock Chinese accent, and lashed out at audience members who laughed at Dang's jokes, branding them as "race traitors". The video was later shown on Twitter, which went viral and received criticism. As a result, Hinchcliffe was dropped by his agency WME, removed from shows scheduled with Joe Rogan in Austin, and the Austin nightclub Antones announced that it would no longer be involved with Hinchcliffe or his Kill Tony live show.
Vulture reported that during his set, Hinchcliffe stated that Chinese people came to Austin because of the bats and criticized offended audience members for "believing he was serious". Dang stated he did not receive any apology from Hinchcliffe following the incident.
1. Peng Dang was approached multiple times by Tony to understand why is this a problem. As it is written in the wiki page above and if you see about 10 minutes of Tony's material. He is edgy, insult comedian who is doing this for the laugh, not for the 2. Peng Dang material was quite insulting to white people and Tony's jokes were context based on his set. 3. Joe Rogan did not remove Tony from shows, Tony removed himself. 4. WME did drop Tony during the cancellation period however now they want to have him as a client again and Tony is using the biggest agency in USA to represent him. 5. The cancellation attempt was thwarted when Tony released Peng Dang's full set and after that shown his whole set.
You can see a full podcast on trigonometry in youtube, which I did. This is the least that can be done in order to keep Wikipedia unbiased, uncensored and TRUTHFUL

- Kin1793, who is 'Wiki team'? Wikipedians are merely volunteers who want to contribute to Wikipedia.
- To answer your question, the truth is, Wikipedia does not value truth, but rather verifiability. The full policy is at WP:Verifiability. Your analysis is original research, which is not allowed since it is not verifiable. Articles should only show what good sources say about the topic.

How to reduce image size of my photo I uploaded
[edit]Please could someone help me to reduce the image size of a photo I have now uploaded to a page (James Simpson (Explorer)).
I can't see if there is an option to change the image - as I could then select a smaller one.
Thanks Plowdenc (talk) 16:30, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Plowdenc: You uploaded commons:File:Jim taken by Catherine Plowden.jpg to Wikimedia Commons. You could reduce the size of your image on your computer and then upload a newer version. If you want help reducing the version on Commons, you may want to ask at commons:Help:Contents.
- A bigger issue is that you uploaded the photo under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license but also added "This image is copyright ยฉ Catherine Plowden. All rights reserved". Those statements are not compatible. GoingBatty (talk) 17:00, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Plowdenc If you are Catherine Plowden which you asserted in this edit then you just need to remove the ยฉ you added when uploading it to Commons. Alternatively, you can email the Commons volunteers (see c:Commons:Email_templates) to confirm that the copyright holder has released the photo under a CC license. Please do not reduce the file size on Commons: high-resolution images (within reason) are preferred. As you will now see in the article, the size is reduced using the |thumb parameter, or in various ways described at Help:pictures. Mike Turnbull (talk) 18:30, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
Conspiracy Theory
[edit]Why do you often claim 'conspiracy theory'. You know this is a term coined by the CIA in 1967 and has been used as a way to shut down ideas, good and bad. Why do you need to do this when your job is to share all manner of information? This practice diminishes Wikipedia. 199.47.67.47 (talk) 18:43, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- See conspiracy theory. All Wikipedia articles use the expressions used by reliable sources. If there is a specific article where you think the expression is incorrectly used, please take this up on the article's Talk Page. Mike Turnbull (talk) 19:23, 3 November 2023 (UTC)
- And note Conspiracy theory#Origin and usage. It's not a term coined by the CIA but I'm not surprised an apparent conspiracy theory supporter would claim that. PrimeHunter (talk) 10:58, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
