[edit]I got ref number 23 all wrong - leave in quote please and thanks 115.70.23.77 (talk) 03:14, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there! Did this edit fix it properly? GoingBatty (talk) 03:56, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
About the evaluation level of the article Mount Japfü.
[edit]Mount Japfü was created in March 2022 and has not been rated as of June this year. According to WP:CLASSES, should it be evaluated as "stub" or "start"? Fumikas Sagisavas (talk) 05:16, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- This is borderline, but reading by the lines of WP:CLASSES, it states a "useful picture or graphic" is one of the start-class criteria – I think that, combined with having a paragraph's worth of text and four references (though they're not great refs) is enough to justify a start rating. I've rated it as such, but another editor could swap it to stub (though in my experience, ratings are often not updated very frequently). Skarmory (talk • contribs) 06:52, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've moved that article to Mount Japfu as that is the name used in three of the four sources cited. It would be great if somebody could find out what language it is named in, and give the local spelling. ColinFine (talk) 09:39, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Need help correcting a serious error
[edit]Some of the biographical information on my page is incorrect. New to editing and don't know how to fix or ask for a correction. MatthewSeitz68 (talk) 06:06, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Anyone, including the subject, can add the template {{cn}} after the dubious statement, which is automatically translated into "citation needed". That should prompt users who are watching the article to find a reference from a reliable source. Doug butler (talk) 06:23, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Unfortunately the problem is that the statement that's linked to as a footnote was misunderstood by the editor who added it. The Tweet in question -- the link for citation 15, under "Personal Life" -- refers to my "brother" (a term of endearment) but he is actually my stepfather's only son, and I didn't meet him until we were both in our thirties. I don't have a counter-citation but I suppose I could create one. The existing footnote has sparked trolling/harassment. MatthewSeitz68 (talk) 06:34, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- @MatthewSeitz68: I assume this is for Matt Zoller Seitz – in that case, given the original source is a twitter post by you (and therefore a self-published source), you could create another twitter post explaining the situation and that should be enough to replace it in the Wikipedia article. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 06:39, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- I appreciate this, and I already did publish such a Tweet a little while ago, here:

- @MatthewSeitz68, did I get it right? :[1]. Thanks for trying to communicate with "us", it's not always easy, but it can be done. Of course, there's other ways:[2] ;-)
- Note to my fellow Wikipedians, we may actually remove some of this personal detail per WP:ABOUTSELF, but atm I'm taking the WP:BLPKIND route. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:17, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- I really appreciate this. That particular (misconstrued) bit of detail has caused me to be harassed online by people who don't like my reviews and generally have it in for me. BTW there's a ton of other detail in the tweet that thread is a part of that is perhaps more relevant/interesting and not, well, you know....
- I'm going to try to learn editing so that I can fill out the publications section as well. It is incomplete at the moment.... 71.146.98.215 (talk) 16:14, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Just read the bio, I appreciate the refinement! 71.146.98.215 (talk) 16:16, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- I remember once when Roger Ebert said that he didn't like Thor. People had... opinions. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 18:21, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

- @MatthewSeitz68: In the future, you can request an edit request on Talk:Matt Zoller Seitz (and disclose that you are the subject of the article, as you have kindly done here.) Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:53, 9 June 2023 (UTC)

Editing problems
[edit]Really sorry, but I have run into a formatting problem trying to edit the Crystal Palace first team squad!!! Could someone please correct the formatting errors. Many thanks Kenneth Wyatt (talk) 09:23, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Done – you'd got a line feed in the middle of the template name and that was confusing the parser. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 09:30, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Today's Help desk
[edit]Just checking if something's gone wrong with archiving. Today's Help Desk seems to start in the middle of a question from 5th June, rather than at the heading for 6th June (which I assume was intended). AndyJones (talk) 12:53, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- The bot probably missed the first question on 5th June as it didn't have a header, so I archived it manually. TSventon (talk) 13:04, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Can someone correct the title of this page? "Lontano" should be written with a lowercase initial letter. I cannot proceed with the renaming, because the title already exists. JackkBrown (talk) 13:41, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- @jackkbrown: you should make a request at wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. lettherebedarklight晚安 13:51, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Closing a discussion with no responses
[edit]About five days ago, I created a section at Talk:Waukesha Christmas parade attack about splitting off the trial section into its own article. There have been no responses since. Is this a case of WP:GOFORIT? How long should I wait before just creating the article? What would be the proper procedure? Mfko (talk) 21:14, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Generally, give it at least 7 days, as that's the length a usual discussions runs for. If nobody objects, in that case, you can probably split the new article and if it's redirected then have a discussion, or you can follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Splitting#Procedure to start a more official discussion (though those often go for months with very few responses as well). Skarmory (talk • contribs) 22:43, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- If you need more input on a discussion, you can usually make a post at a relevant WikiProject. In this case, WP:WikiProject Wisconsin and WP:WikiProject Crime would probably be the most relevant ones. With that said, I think I would oppose this split. All of the information about this event should be kept on the same page unless there's a good reason not to. The article is still fairly short for Wikipedia standards; it would need to be about four or five times as long before we started talking about splitting due to size. Fixing links generated from neurolex/interlex IDs
[edit]Neurolex records were migrated to Interlex, apparently without appropriate redirection, so now all the Neurolex links are broken. Apparently these links come from some kind of Wikidata integration since I can't see how to edit the link on Wikipedia (e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extrastriate_cortex), but whatever generates the HTML links from the IDs needs updated to point to interlex: is someone already working on that or is there a way I can help fix it?
Mwatts15 (talk) 23:43, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, Mwatts. I'm not clear whether the problem is that the ID has changed, or the way that the URL is generated has to change. If it's the first, then the ID's will need to be edited in Wikidata, eg d:Q4530686. If it's the display, then I suggest asking at Template talk:infobox anatomy. ColinFine (talk) 11:25, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Mwatts15: I have updated {{Infobox anatomy}}.[3] The Neurolex ID at Wikidata can still be used with a new url pattern. Thanks for reporting this and giving an example. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:55, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks! I see your edit. I had no idea how infoboxes worked before. Mwatts15 (talk) 23:32, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Mwatts15: Special:LinkSearch/*.neurolex.org shows some remaining dead links to neurolex.org. The examples I examined have the url directly in the page. I'm not planning to look for replacement url's. If you do then just ignore links on talk pages and "Wikipedia:" pages. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:14, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
