[edit]Chinese book titles shouldn't be italicized
[edit]There are some articles that cite Chinese books. However the template would Italicize the Chinese characters. I wonder if there can be some way to stop this italicizing feature when it comes to Chinese characters or the language. 2001:B011:7000:1613:84F0:68A:70DC:75F4 (talk) 03:26, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- If I understand {{Cite book}} correctly, you can use the script-title parameter and it is not italicized. RudolfRed (talk) 03:33, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
In the "Family" section, the reference to "Leonard Smelt" and the Dictionary of National Biography reference is all wrong. Please fix, Ive failed! Thanks 110.145.40.2 (talk) 04:05, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- I added the
<ref>...</ref>
tags and changed {{DNB}} to {{cite DNB}}. Does that produce the result you wanted? GoingBatty (talk) 04:22, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
page deleted
[edit]Hello, how can I find out why "Hamuchtar" page was deleted? Elbow made (talk) 06:13, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- In general, if you type the title of a deleted article and click on the redlink that comes up, it will give you a link to the AfD discussion, in this case Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hamuchtar. Clarityfiend (talk) 06:22, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Wide view mode
[edit]How do I get this back? 2603:7081:4600:7EBE:E88B:540C:5A8C:6944 (talk) 11:22, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- on the bottom right corner of the page, you should see a little icon that looks like the full screen toggle on many other websites. click it, and it should return to "wide view mode". lettherebedarklight晚安 11:36, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- If you don't see the in the lower-right corner, you may have to adjust your browser's zoom magnification. —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 13:53, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
User pages guideline
[edit]Hi, I am creating my user page, and I wanted to check with the guideline on not making a user page appear as an article. Am I allowed to create a parody of the article format in my user page if I make it obvious enough that it is not an article? Or is that still not advised as potentially misleading? Grettoonist (talk) 16:49, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Grettoonist The guidance at WP:UPYES covers what is acceptable on Userpages. WP:HOAX specifically prohibits hoax articles. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:14, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- You could of course copy a biography article format for your user page if the content is limited to what is relevant to you as a Wikipedia editor. See User:Jimbo Wales for an example. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:21, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Even if it's allowed, I think a parody of an article would be a poor idea. Some new users create badly-written would-be articles about themselves on their user pages. Someone who doesn't know you and visits your parody user page might assume they've found one of those. Maproom (talk) 07:51, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
Economic data
[edit]Why is most economic data (Such as GDP) given in USD rather than the countries own currency? For example, in the Economy of Germany article shouldn't the GDP be in Euros rather than USD? Crainsaw (talk) 17:49, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- [I corrected your heading's spelling to facilitate future archive searches for this query.]
- The practice on Wikipedia reflects practice in the real world, where this is done so that direct comparisons can be made without having to perform frequent conversion calculations. USD are generally used because, to quote our article United States dollar:
- "The U.S. dollar became an important international reserve currency after the First World War, and displaced the pound sterling as the world's primary reserve currency by the Bretton Woods Agreement towards the end of the Second World War. The dollar is the most widely used currency in international transactions,[3] and a free-floating currency. It is also the official currency in several countries and the de facto currency in many others,[4][5] with Federal Reserve Notes (and, in a few cases, U.S. coins) used in circulation."
- These facts led to the creation of the U.S. Dollar Index. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195 90.221.195.5 (talk) 20:30, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- It doesn't really matter since USD isn't the standard for measuring economic data, it's used to measure data only in America, since we don't yet have a standard for measuring economic data we should just use the countries' currency, with the USD vales in brackets. Crainsaw (talk) 12:32, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Crainsaw International bodies such as the OECD use USD for comparisons, see for example doi:10.1787/data-00045-en Mike Turnbull (talk) 12:31, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
- In the 2020 OECD economic outlook issue 1 they used all sorts of popular currencies such as the Sterling, Yen, Euro and Dollar Crainsaw (talk) 14:57, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

Dr. Theodore J. Kaczynski
[edit]The article currently incorrectly associates Dr. Kaczynski with eco fascism.
From Wikipedia,
Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalistpolitical ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation and race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.
In the Industrial Society and it’s Furture, Dr. Kaczynski ascribes no political mechanations to establish a state or authoritarian ruler. Further he upholds the individual and lose societies of individuals above corporate means and these teachings are Anarcho Primitivism or Luddite at best.
please take this into advisement. 174.65.179.42 (talk) 18:03, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- If you have suggestions to improve an article, please make them at that article's talk page. Note that our article Ted Kaczynski does not "associate" him with eco-fascism, it says that some eco-fascists idolize him, but that he was dismissive of fascism (both claims cited to reliable sources). How to add names to a Category
[edit]For instance: Category: American dancers of Asian descent is missing a number of relevant names, including Michio Ito (the first Asian American choreographer/modern dancer) and Dana Tai Soon Burgess. I don't see an easy way to edit. TruthisPower21st (talk) 19:24, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- TruthisPower21st You add categories to articles, not articles to categories. You would add [[Category:Category name]] to the bottom of the relevant article. 331dot (talk) 19:58, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Got it. Thank you. TruthisPower21st (talk) 20:02, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- @TruthisPower21st You do that by editing the article you want to put in the category. Take the time to read Wikipedia:Categorization#Categorizing_pages, there are do:s and dont:s. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 20:00, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Appreciate it. Got it now. TruthisPower21st (talk) 20:03, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- @TruthisPower21st. Michio Itō is described as Japanese, so the category doesn't seem appropriate. Since you added Dana Tai Soon Burgess to Category:American artists of Korean descent, it is redundant to also have the parent categories Category:American artists of Asian descent and Category:American people of Korean descent, so I have removed them. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 02:02, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
