The article Jaswinder Bhalla has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

New BLP, sourced only to the subject's website; notability therefore unclear

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Indian Collaboration of the Month

[edit]
Collaboration of the month
Hi there! WP:INCOTM is a WikiProject where editors from different parts of India choose an article and work on it collaboratively throughout the month.
It is a great opportunity to interact with experienced editors from the community and to get the feel of collaboration - one of the reasons and advantages of editing Wikipedia!

This month, Anil Kumble has been the article chosen for GA/FA of the month. And you being a fan of Indian Cricket team, I invite to you to join this collaboration and contribute in making Anil Kumble a good article. -- ♪Karthik♫ ♪Nadar♫ 10:43, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Vigyani!

  • I think I started both articles. The merge is fine by me. I think the article should now be moved to ICC Umpire Awards or something along those lines, as the "Golden Bails" is one of three awards the ICC makes to umpires.
  • On a related note, I've tried to find anything about the second-tier "Silver Bails Award" in reliable references, and completely failed.

Your thoughts about these matters? Peter aka "World's worst right-arm leg-spinner" aka --Shirt58 (talk) 09:35, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

yeah.. moving the article is ICC Umpire Awards is better. Infact I was also thinking to do so. But I thought to do some research and find out what other umpiring awards exist, before making such article. So for time being I let the article be kept named as Golden Bails Award. I will try to find out if any umpire has got Silver Award. Vigyani (talk) 10:06, 6 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Indic scripts

[edit]

Hi, please can you try to avoid adding Indic scripts, such as Punjabi, to articles on English Wikipedia. There is a consensus that they generally cause problems - see WP:INDICSCRIPT. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 12:56, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

yeah sure.. I was not aware of this. But then Hindi is okay? And I saw regional script used in many articles .--Vigyani (talk) 14:07, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hindi is not ok, nor Devangari or any other Indic script. There is an exception of sorts for films, if I remember correctly, and there is uncertainty regarding placenames but the safe bet is not to add the stuff. Although the guidance has been around for some time, there are of course many articles that already contained scripts and have not been cleaned up. I don't think anyone is in a particular rush to do so - things just get fixed as and when they are noticed. Hope this helps. - Sitush (talk) 14:15, 23 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. No problem, I figured you probably didn't know. Also, please don't add anyone who wasn't royalty before 1971 to that category. It is for historical use. No person who "succeeded" after 1971 is considered royalty, they are termed pretenders, this would include Amarinder Singh and others "inherited" their predecessors throne after 1971. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ajit Ranade requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. ♦ Tentinator ♦ 09:53, 7 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article Ajit Ranade has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Worthy of A7 on article content alone, but holding off per discussion on talk page. If author does not add sources to substantiate claims, delete after PROD expired

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. TechArmy

[edit]

Hi Vigyani,

I thank you for your response. There were multiple reasons and objections behind deletion of TechArmy. This included advertising, promotion, vandalism and also related to repeated creation. Some of them were raised by you. I removed all objections related to advertising, promotion and vandalism - rasied by you.

Also, disruptive editing was not intentional but only an outcome of repeated changes (in lesser time). I would like to re-instate the page with your support and also through administrator. Kindly provide some pointers or let me know how to proceed. This page only contains section that can be classified as corporate information regarding 'TechArmy', a software company that was registered in Gurgaon, India. It has closed operations since 30-March-2012. This information is mostly a search term for many people and hence is very relevant matter for search engines, encyclopedias and wikis. Please clarify and provide the right direction ahead.

Thanks, Sumith.

Sumith Puri

Hi.. Sumith. Thanks for the message. In this case of TechArmy, I believe you were the founder of that company. So as a rule you can not write an article on TechArmy due to obvious conflict of interest. We also do not write or edit articles about the organisations we work in. Also apart from the reasons of advertising or promotion, there should be enough notability for the company or say, company should be famous enough. If the company "TechArmy" is actually famous, I believe someone else will create an article about it. If I search about TechArmy in google, it shows some organization in USA and if I add Gurgaon, then I get result about your company, which in my point of view are not enough notable. However different editor have different view. But all in all, since you were the founder of that company, you can not in any capacity take part in the article about TechArmy (even if someone else creates it). New editors like you are always welcomed and are an important assets for wikipedia. I suggest you give your valuable time to lots of other article of your interest.
Regarding disruptive editing, what you were doing was removing the "speedy deletion tag". Only an admin of wikipedia can not remove that tag. Even once placed, I also can not remove the tag, as I am just an editor like you and not an admin. You can improve the article, but not remove the tag.
I hope I answer your questions and sincerely hope that you keep on contributing to wikipedia. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask. --Vigyani (talk) 09:38, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pages in foreign languages

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for patrolling new pages, but "not English" is not a valid reason for speedy deletion (see WP:CSD#Non-criteria, a list which is worth reading). Sometimes (though not often) a page in another language is worth translating, and there is a page at WP:PNT where possibles can be listed. Often, as with Nixe man just now, it's clear than a speedy criterion like {{db-band}} applies. Google translate will often tell you the language, if you don't know it, and may provide enough of a translation to decide whether a speedy is appropriate. The way to deal with foreign articles is explained at WP:NPP#Dealing with foreign language new pages. Also, there is a useful set of templates, many of them bilingual like {{contrib-fr1}}, listed at WP:PNT/T, which can be used to point the foreign contributor to his home Wikipedia. Speedy Deletion of Dr.Uday Krishna Myneni

[edit]

Hi Vigyani,

I've come to the notice that you've been objecting the creation of article called 'Dr.Uday Krishna Myneni'. It shows : This article may meet Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a real person that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. Note that this applies to an article about the person him/herself, not about his/her books, albums, software, etc. See CSD A7.

It would be a great help if you provide me the points that conflict this particular article to be a legal and objection-free wikipedia article. I shall correct them as soon as possible.

Re Guarantor Loan

[edit]

Hi Vigyani,

I replied on the article discussion page for Guarantor loan, but thought I'd also reply here.

The article created today covers a distinct, standalone market in the UK finance industry, Unsecured Guarantor Loans. I actually think it's worth editing the article title to "unsecured guarantor loan", to make that clear.

The Loan guarantee covers the subject of the act of guaranteeing agreements (mortgages, which are secured loans), but not the unsecured guarantor loan industry, which is totally separate, regulated by a different regulatory body (OFT, not FSA)

I strongly feel that the subject is very different to the loan guarantee article.

Hi. I noticed that on two occasions, you expressed disapproval of the block of the user Seanharger. My main point is that he absolutley had reasons to be blocked, it's not an out-of-the-blue thing. Here are some things to consider:

  • 1. He had been gently reminded before about personal attacks, and indeed gently warned.
  • 2. Sockpuppettry is always a big no-no, no matter what (even if it is just logging out, but it still counts).
  • 3. It wasn't me who even requested a block in the first place. The user Alex2564 actually gave the AIV report of Sean and he ended up blocked. However, I had questions about a report to ANI or AIV, too, due to his behavior.
  • 4. Majority of his personal attacks were on talk pages [especially his], so losing his own talk page is another step to prevent him from attacking someone.
  • 5. It may have been harsh, but he did some harsh things, and was harsh himself, so having some humor like that is OK, its not a P.A.

I can bring up an ANI discussion/community vote about what others think. I'll get an admin to start something up (like a vote) to see if the community supports or does not support an indef block of him. Cheers! WorldTraveller101Did I mess up? 10:03, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't need to reply me here. You could have just mentioned at admin's talk page. I have only disapproved at one occasion. I can not see your gentle warning (please provide link if you have done). I can only see 'I must let you know that you will not be spending a single second of your life editing Wikipedia ever again'. Does even getting blocked once means that person should not edit WP again? Talk page is blocked only if the abuse continues. But that user has not edited even once after getting blocked. Whatever you call humour is certainly not humour. That way, he could also pass his statements as humour. --Vigyani (talk) 10:17, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am not the only person to make this statement (first of all). Second, that is supposed to mean [I'll change it] "chill out and take a while off and if you can't cool off, enjoy real life and possibly try to come back." Does that make more sense? Thanks. Speedy deletion declined: Sewersam

[edit]

Hello Vigyani, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Sewersam, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: The reason given is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Legoktm (talk) 00:42, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Legoktm, I did a google search about the Sewersam and couln't find any sources to verify the information. So I nominated it for deletion. Since it is a possible new piece of software and I was not sure if any of the standard templates apply so I used a custom template. Is it only declined because of the nomination criteria or you think it is notable enough. I have been patrolling pages for about more then a month and I have observed that sometime admin while deleting the page add additional criteria or use a related different criteria. Yesterday also this page had appeared under the name SewerSAM, and was nominated (by me) for G11 as the tone was promotional. Today it was not promotional, so I did google search to verify. Also note that the main editor of the article may have a COI. Btw congrats for a successful RfA :). --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:56, 16 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Counting systems

[edit]

You really did open my eyes with the "12 on one hand" explanation for counting and I am very grateful for that. Working on the same principle, that means someone can count to 60 using two hands: one to get to 12 and then the other to count the 12's five times over. It is genius and, oddly, fits in with the old-style British currency system. Of course, 12-counting gives more divisors (therefore, arguably more "useful") than decimal counting and this still now occasionally is an issue raised in the UK regarding the change of currency made here in the early 1970s. I just wonder if the system you mention originated back in the days of the Raj. Regardless, it is fascinating to an idiot like me and I am already telling everyone I know about it. Thanks very much. - Sitush (talk) 00:50, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

wow.. thats great, I never wondered about its history. May I should also tell about this discussion to few persons I know . :p --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 00:53, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Whoops, working on the same principle could get you much higher than 60, but it would involve some more detailed mental arithmetic. You could do the 12 on one hand and then start over, ticking off metacarpal etc on the other ... but you'd have to think a bit more. What would that give? 144 + the "spare" thumb = 156? My brain is frying up! - Sitush (talk) 00:55, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
a quick thought, is there any remote possibility that 12 hours system has anything to do with it. We have two hands and a day is divided in 2 parts of 12 hours. And your above mentioned 60 indicates toward a possible connection with 60 minutes ?? --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 00:58, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(more) 12 inchs in a foot, foot/inch is still widely used in india??--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:04, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The old British system (which existed well within my lifetime) is explained here. The Raj was generally not A Good Thing, obviously, but you'll be well-aware that the legacies remain and, surely, at least one of them must be good! Your mention of time also could be relevant. We Brits had a quite bizarre series of measurements (think of cricket pitches and 22 yards being a "chain") but I am really very ignorant about the subject. I am going to raise this with the Great and the Good and see if anyone knows any more, if that is ok with you? You could end up with quite a few responses here and little orange notices popping up like bullets. - Sitush (talk) 01:09, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
no problem... I will appreciate it. Anyway my talk page is very less used talk page as compared to editor with similar WP experience as me. So few message per day will be good :). Yes legacies remain and we Indians today also appreciate the good things done by British such as Railway and maybe more.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:16, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have asked and we will see what comes of it. Please do also ask around your friends etc: it's not about building an article but rather trying to work something out, so no policies apply. We're not supposed to be a social network but all rules can be bent and, hey, we're not human if we are not social ;) - Sitush (talk) 01:48, 19 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of 5 paragraph essay

[edit]

You tagged 5 paragraph essay for speedy deletion using the rationale: "No connection of title with content, and content is not worthy of WP". Please remember that the criteria for speedy deletion are fairly narrowly defined, and this is not one of them. Clearly, this article is not appropriate for Wikipedia, but nomination under the wrong rationale could delay or prevent its deletion (some admins are sticklers for these things). One might argue that the page is a test page, but one must find a valid criterion for speedy, or else choose to PROD the article instead. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:52, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi thanks for the message. It does not appear to be test page, so G2 is not applicable and neither other standard sections. But since article is rather a personal essay or more like some random thoughts of some school kid. So I used a custom message. Maybe PROD could be a better option, but I thought it is clearly inappropriate so why to go through longer PROD process. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 15:00, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I actually believe it was an attempt by a school student to post his school assignment ("Your assignment is to write a 5 paragraph essay") on Wikipedia. No matter, it has now been redirected to Five paragraph essay, an article on that standard form of school assignment. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:15, 23 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi... I just noticed that the article I nominated for CSD was 5 paragragh essay, possibly an intentional or unintentional missspell of 5 paragraph essay. 5 paragraph essay is a much older REDIRECT page, and 5 paragragh essay has been deleted by Peridon, citing as test page G2 and WP:NOTESSAY. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 03:40, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
'Test page' is a polite way of saying 'non-encyclopaedic crap' at times. (Only for the first article - not usable for subsequent attempts.) Never noticed the spelling - unusual for me, that... Peridon (talk) 19:21, 24 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Quick Question

[edit]

Recently, I noticed that IP 63.92.242.185 is an IP that Jonathan Yip used. However, it has been making constructive edits to airport articles, such as John F. Kennedy International Airport. Does his edits stay as is, or do they need to be reverted and re-added by a non-affiliated user? I'm just wondering, because at WP:BAN, it says all must be reverted, but I don't want to get too involved with the reverts? Thanks, Vigyani. WorldTraveller101(Trouble?/My Work) 01:22, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:BAN, a banned user should not edit even from IP. But a very clear proof is need that a given IP belongs to a banned user. Usually many editors have divided opinion on these matters. However the policy is to block such IP's. But I do not think that edits will be reverted if they are constructive. Moreover there is difference between a block and ban. In case of a block, editor can not edit anything (and can be from 24 hours to indefinite). In case of banned, user is restricted from certain topics. For example one may be banned from editing article related to say Christianity, but he will be certainly allowed to edit article about say Islam. In the present case, if you are sure that IP belongs to Yip, then I think best course will be to inform AS, and if he agrees he should file a SPI. In such cases, I just keep a close watch, check all the edits and take action only if there is un-costructive edits. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:36, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. The IP has been confirmed as one Jonathan YIP used. JY is site-banned indefinitley. Hope this info helps. WorldTraveller101(Trouble?/My Work) 11:43, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
after replying you, I read Yip's sock investigation and found that this IP was blocked as Yip's IP for 6 months. Now if the block is lifted from this IP, there must be some reason. Probably it is assumed that after say a 6 month period, the IP may not belong to Yip. I suggest you to ask this question to an admin. But mention that you are asking only out of curiosity and you do not have any intention to pursue this. Even if it is proved that this is Yip again, I strongly advise you not to take any action and just leave it.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 12:17, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to leave it at KoH's talk. Thanks, Vigyani. WorldTraveller101(Trouble?/My Work) 14:12, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It is a confirmed sock and per WP:BAN, all edits, except for vandalism reversions and mechanics (spelling & grammar) corrections should be reverted (see the thread). Thanks. WorldTraveller101(Trouble?/My Work) 18:52, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dru yoga

[edit]

Hello Vigyani. Working on the Dutch equivalent of Dru yoga, on which I've got my hands full (of sorts), I noted the article over here. And the fact you nominated it for speedy deletion. It wasn't much to begin with and it's getting worse. Just wanted to let you know. Regards, Sander1453 (talk) 11:00, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thanks for the message. I had nominated Dru yoga for speedy deletion during my NewPagePetrol (NPP), in which several New Page Patroller, check the freshly created pages for obvious errors. Since this article when created had only one line and that also did not put much light on Dru Yoga, so I nominated it for deletion. I myself does not have any idea about Dru Yoga. I nominate several articles, sometime 20 articles for deletion in a day, and I do not usually keep a track of the article, after decision about speedy deletion is taken. But do not worry, thats how WP works, sometime a new page stays poor for a long period of time, before someone really pay attention and make it good.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 13:04, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks for the answer. Usually I don't do NewPages, but I do patrol Recent Changes on the Dutch WP. Occasionally I take part in discussions about deletion (normal speed - 14 days discussion time). Nominated for speedy deletion once or twice (speedy=handled by sysop, may take 10 mins to an hour). Btw, the article's not just poor, it's biased. Someone thinks it's a vehicle for discrediting the organisation behind Dru yoga. Sander1453 (talk) 23:50, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great, we need more India-related editors in FAC (there are many in GA regularly). Have you proposed any article for GA so far?--Dwaipayan (talk) 20:15, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, I have not proposed any GA. I became active in Feb 2013 and mostly have been focusing on creating new articles or expanding notable stubs. I think I will continue to do so as of now. Partial editing

U said every truth need not be here. Also, its not other name for Aishwarya like Jiah Khan was the other name for Nafeesa Khan. Just accept the reality even if u find it hard to digest that Abhishek's wife is much much more successful than him. (talk) 18:56, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How does it matter to me, which is more famous? In case of Aishwarya, probably I don't need to revert your edit, as the article is already titled with that name i.e. with Bachchan surname. In case of Abhishek, the statement you are adding is unsourced. Kindly read WP:POV.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 13:33, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The page is titled Aishwarya Rai. Dear Vigyani, yourself being a woman, why are you being so supposrtive of such things. Wikipedia is full of sentences without proofs. In fact, it does not require a proof that Aishwarya Rai is known worldwide, unlike Abhishek. Although social websites are not the only proofs, but if you simply try checking them out, Aishwarya has more foreign fan following than Indians, while Abhishek even hardly has such a page! Dear Vigyani, just let the truth be, without thinking whether which truth is required and which not. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aish.ego (talkcontribs) 13:39, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See the page title is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. It is bit amusing to me, and I will like to know, how do you know that I am woman. Plus how does it matter whether I am woman or man. We edit WP based upon facts, not our gender. WP needs proof for everything. If there is some statement, which is there without proof, it can be removed. I know that Aishwariya is very famous, much more then Abhishek, no doubt about that. But as I previously mention, the statement you adding is unsourced and not from a neutral point of view. And to show also that Ashwariya is very famous it needs proofs, which are anyhow already present. Also pages on social networking websites are not considered reliable source on WP. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 13:49, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Vigyani doesnt sound a guy to me. It matters if u r a man or woman coz certain men have the male ego n cant stand men appear inferior to their women. Now u wnt me to add sources to the first line of thhis actor's article to prove he is not as famos as his wife?? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aish.ego (talkcontribs) 13:55, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

do you know what Vigyani means? On the matter of ego, please read WP:AGF. In short we assume that everyone edits without any bias as you are assuming. Yes, source will required for your statement but still I think it is a POV statement. First you kindly read about WP:AGF and WP:POV. I am going to sleep now (I live in UTC+9 timezone) and will check your further messages in the morning.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 14:18, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pappu

[edit]

Is this ok or is it also a blp violation. It isn't referenced. --regentspark (comment) 13:25, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IMO it is a violation. This Pappu thing has been added into article Rahul Gandhi also today by Neo (with references). I was thinking to discuss at WT:IN. It is true that he has been called Pappu by few people in last couple of months, but it is not his nickname, as a general use. If we go by that trend, we may then need to add Feku for Modi--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 13:54, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Word processor scan for Rani Mukerji

[edit]

Hi! Perhaps you have noticed that Rani Mukerji is in fac. Can you please, once again, run the word processor scanning (that you did for other fac articles earlier)? Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 16:37, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I knew about Rani Mukerji in FAC and had done a scan few days back, but didn't find anything. However I assumed Indian english spellings to be same as British english. Lots of article I find these days are tagged with Indian english, but I couldn't find any extensive word list or dictionary. Do you know any such source.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 16:44, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the scan. Well, Indian English is an ill-defined entity. Ideally, articles should not be tagged with Indian English template, and use British English consistently. The problem of the blurry definition of Indian English was previously discussed in Indian notice board talk page, and the outcome of such discussion was nothing solid. The safest way is to follow British English.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:14, 4 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

stop following me

[edit]

ARe you junior bachchan's PA?? Evrytym u revert my edits, kindly explain aish.ego (talk) 10:14, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1. Your edit had broken the syntax of the article. This is not your mistake. You tried to use visual editor, and I think that inserted some weird code in the article. You can go to history and look at the version you created and will see what I am talking about. So this was the reason I reverted.
2. I will ask you to be civil with other editor. I have given you some useful advice previously also. Accusing other editors like you do me is not good and you maybe blocked for continuing this kind of behavior. I am not reporting your behavior anywhere with the hope that your understand what I am saying.
3. I am not following you, the page you edit is on my watch list. Several regular editor watch hundreds or sometime thousands of pages, which alert us when anyone makes an edit.
4. There is another problem with you. You carry a bias against males. Putting Aishwariya's name behind Abhishek is both silly and childish (although this is not the reason I reverted). Which makes me wonder, if you are some 12-13 year old girl. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 10:50, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, no I am a 21 year old writer, and my first book is soon going to be published. Moreover vigyani m sure you will change your last name after marriage if u haven't yet. I know now u wil say OMG ! You noticed my reply is complete. That i have references, and that i am 21, and that i know u will find it a personal message :D Thanks vigyani aish.ego (talk) 11:11, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I did not had problem with your edit as such. So no need to talk about references. But other editors may have problem with your latest edits, so someone could revert those changes. What I want is to you to pay attention to WP:NPA and WP:NPOV. Please read these two articles.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 11:18, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah sure... will sort of read them..Hey tell me what problem can one have wid dez edits now?? aish.ego (talk) 11:23, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please read those carefully if you are really interested in continuing on Wikipedia. It is for your own good. Also please WP:AGF. I know it may be bit of work for you but please read them. Maybe first just read the introduction of each article. That won't take much time. Now about your edit. You have mentioned that Abhishek is not considered a successful actor and cited a blog. Before you think that blog is on timesofindia website, a blog is blog and rarely used as a source. In the present case it is more like a opinion of the author and there also the very first line of the blog does not support your edit. The author of the blog terms him as successful but underachiever. Now I have paid more attention to your this edit, so I think myself will go ahead and revert it. So if want to change it or want to added some other reference, you do it soon.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 11:40, 6 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Allegation of Mumbai Attack

[edit]

Hi Vigyani, i noticed that you deleted my contribution for citing the allegation of involvement of Indian Government involvement in commanding the attack and killing of innocent people. i provided the source from Indian daily newspaper "Times of India". Can you please advice what was wrong in my contribution. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ali aff (talkcontribs) 07:47, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, your edit has two aspects.
1) The TOI references says "a former home ministry officer has alleged that a member of the CBI-SIT team had accused incumbent governments of "orchestrating" the terror attack on Parliament and the 26/11 carnage in Mumbai" So it is A alleging that B had accused. Usually allegations are not to be included in the article until they received a wide spread media coverage. Which is not the case. Plus it is an allegation about allegation. Which makes it more like a fringe theory.
2) You had something about Indian government propaganda which I fail to see in the reference.
Now, if you came here to discuss with me then you should have not gone on article and made that change your self again. This is called edit warring WP:EW, and is not permitted. The best course for you is to open a thread at talk page of the article and present your point of view there. Other concerned editors will also pitch in and a consensus can be formed about what to keep and what no to.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 07:57, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Vigyani - We have now discussed the matter extensively on article's talk page., Has it reached the conclusion, can we add my contribution to the article?--Ali aff (talk) 16:19, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, no conclusion doesn't mean that it can be added. What we need is more eyes on it. Can you leave its link at WT:IN so that other editors can have look. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 23:10, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(Created Article) (thank) u can see in http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shitala&offset=20100123211239&limit=500&action=history and i had saw a wrong spell as Sitala Mata and i had edited it same material in both pages and after that i had edited spell. Even today by opening the link Sitala Mata Shitala is opening in Wikipedia. and as per the comment contents of Sitala Mata, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://tourism-independent-india.blogspot.com/2011/03/shitala-mata-hindu-goddess-widely.html. u can see that this page is created in 2011 where as in Wikipedia this is begin existed from 20 April 2006‎. for more information you can check that in http://wschange.com/. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale

[edit]

" The evidence shows that the Sikhs satisfy these tests. They are more than a religious sect, they are almost a race and almost a nation. As a race, the Sikhs share a common colour, and a common physique based on common ancestors from that part of the Punjab which is centred on Amritsar. They fail to qualify as a separate race because in racial origin prior to the inception of Sikhism they cannot be distinguished from other inhabitants of the Punjab. As a nation the Sikhs defeated the Moghuls, and established a kingdom in the Punjab which they lost as a result of the first and second Sikh wars they fail to qualify as a separate nation or as a separate nationality because their kingdom never achieved a sufficient degree of recognition or permanence. The Sikhs qualify as a group defined by ethnic origins because they consitute a separate and distinct community derived from the racial characteristics I have mentioned." Please see these lines in the last paragraph.

According to the House of Lords, though Sikhs qualify the conditions for Race, Nation and Ehtnicity, yet due to circumstances, they can't be called a race or nation/nationality. And only Ethnicity. I hope this shall settle the issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by All accounts taken (talkcontribs) 10:28, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Blue Star

[edit]

Hey Vigyani, fellow editor.

You made some changes to the operation blue star page and removed the following points:

  • Jarnail Singh Bhinderanwale killed.
  • Akal Takht and various other buildings heavily damaged.
  • Military control of the Sikh spiritual and political buildings.
  • Sikh reference library burned by Indian army.
  • Thousands of Sikh pilgrims taken hostage by Indian army and killed.
  • Assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in October.

Do you disagree with any of these points? Jujhar.pannu (talk) 05:51, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with using the term Khala in info box. You should not have changed it while doing other changes. That term was changed previously after lot of discussions. But others points you mentioned here also need discussion as the result section also has been point of discussion. So it will be unfair to edit without seeking others opinion.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 05:55, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which points do you think are not fair, I am awaiting you reply. Jujhar.pannu (talk) 06:03, 31 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
From the above mentioned points I did not have any specific problem with anyone, but they do represent certain WP:POV. And when some portions of an article are under debate, it is always healthier to first suggest proposed changes at talk page and wait for few days. What, I didn't like was that you made the combatant2 Khalsa from the militants in the same edit. Reply only if you are going to stay civil.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:50, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Babb not Babbs

[edit]

Hi.

Thanks for your non-controversial clean up of the BKWSU topic.

One small point, it should be Lawrence Babb, not Lawrence Babbs.

Babb, Lawrence A. is the author of "Redemptive Encounters. Three Modern Styles in the Hindu Tradition", "Glancing: Visual Interaction in Hinduism", and others. See: [1].

Thank you. --Januarythe18th (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 17:28, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

POV, really?

[edit]

If u think putting a statement under the right section is POV let me tell u u r really irritating me now.. I had written a piece of info in shah rukh's page n a mindful editor put it in the right section and deleted it from the intro..so i had no problem with it.. aish.ego (talk) 09:06, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

May I know which edit you are talking about? And if you are getting irritating then let me tell you, that I have been actually ignoring your rude behavior. So you better mend your behavior before you come to my talk page again.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 09:34, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

New rules in two months?

[edit]

Hi AB's PA.. the last time i showed u this edit, u very kindly agreed to it, that the statement n the proof just match. So some new arguement u have now for defending n proving that Abhishek Bachchan is the star now in bollywood, n not srk, aamir, salman, akshay, ajay, saif, hritik, blah blah blahhhhh aish.ego (talk) 08:40, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You said it's not civil!! helo, it's just that while I give words to my actions, u silently irritate me by your actions. So i think u didn't explain to me what I asked. Please do. aish.ego (talk) 08:46, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As I had mentioned in my previous interaction with you. You need to be civil while talking with other people. Accusing other editors of PA of some subject is personal attack and harassment. I have now issued you a level one warning for personal attack. If you continue like this you may be blocked from editing.
When you added that statement two months ago, I didn't oppose it. Not that I agreed with that. But you must have seen that a very experience editor removed that line of yours citing it as "non-encyclopediac". So I only mention that you should discuss with him before re-adding.
Now I remind you again to be civil. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 08:49, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Don't explain to me girl, what being civil is, had i been devoting my time to irritate u, i would have been shot by now. Now I don't know what "agreeing" means in your dictionary, but u kindly said "that's better" on that statement i added. What do you mean by non encyclopedic, aish.ego (talk) 08:54, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Use of capital letters is considered shouting. So please do not shout and read WP:CIVIL. I will discuss about the content only if you agree to be civil. Also do not presume my gender. Find out who removed that line before you re-added and discuss with them or invite them to article talk page. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 09:15, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
ok then i rewrite it in small letters "u want me to research on around ten articles n show u some similar non encyclopedic statement5s??" how to send a link from one talk page to another?? i want to show u what uncivilised comment means aish.ego (talk) 09:40, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you think that there is non encyclopedic content in any article, then please go ahead and remove it. To send a link to anywhere you have to copy it from the address bar and paste it wherever you want. I noticed that you are being rude to other editors too. Better mend your behavior if you want to stay on wiki.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 12:13, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I think m much better because ur reaction would have been much worse than my "no reaction" when someone dropped an F-bomb twice while talking to me. U r telling me that i am being rude, i can only laugh at it because here is the link where someone talks to me in a way that could make someone fragile create a havoc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Onorem , also see other editors also seem to talk rudely to this editor, using words like 'arsehole,' so i warn u to warn me again on grounds of being rude, coz if i come down to explaining how u r examining my tolerance, its nt going to be very sweet, aish.ego (talk) 05:04, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Someone else's rude behavior doesn't give you the license to be rude with me or any other editor. If you behave rudely or make personal attacks you will be of course warned, wether you like it or not. Whatever I am doing, I am doing by staying within the Wiki policies. If that appears to be an examination of tolerance for you. I suggest you find some other website to push your POV.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:25, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Knock knock, verfiable statements are not POV

Secondly, what's this licence talk all about!! I just showed u ur temperament to small acceptable things, anyway, i leave ur page now, until u try to find something in my edits again, bye aish.ego (talk) 11:08, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for leaving my page. I feel that it is very difficult for me to have a useful conversation with you. So I hereby ban you from my talk page. If you have problem with any of my edit, then discuss it on that article's talk page. So no further editing on talk page for you. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 11:15, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I had come across this during my routine NPP. After your post, I checked the supposed source and saw that it had Wikitags of August 2013, which lead me to believe that it must have been deleted. Just now I checked Deletion log and noticed that it is twice deleted. The present author's only edit is this article creation, so s/he may very well be the blocked or banned editor. This is my first article which I made for dinesh swamy. The references which are noted are from the advertising news afaqs, campaign India which are online news websites. I have gone through the guidelines and re structured the content. Let me know your thoughts so that I can improvise. My recent redirects are due to User:Surjits12 (now blocked for copyvios). He has a habit of creating multiple duplicate articles with the same or similar content. So I just kept on redirecting his duplicate articles to the first article on that topic. Otherwise I do not have much knowledge of this matter. However I will study this topic and try to help. Vigyani, what you reverted here and in the next edit was a copyright violation. I've removed it from the history. It's worthwhile googling mass additions of content that appear out of nowhere from new editors; in this case the originals were easily found. Wikipedia:Dominic Russo

[edit]

Thanks for moving this back to the user page, but this was an unusual case where it was actually created by User:Poisonious and User:Dominic Russo is not a registered account. I decided to delete it anyway as too promotional for a user page, and left him a note about WP:NOTWEBHOST. This sort of move is a pain, because the user talk pages go, too, and sometimes get lost: I wonder if it could be arranged that main user pages cannot be moved except by admins, or maybe that if a main user page is moved the talk page does not go with it. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 10:54, 20 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"Eskil by the way smells really bad. Hw is really cool and likes coconuts." That's not an article that duplicates Coconut, it's just vandalism. Thanks. Drmies (talk) 15:17, 14 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I added information from a satirical website by mistake in Arvind Kejriwal's page. I sincerely thank you for reverting the edit!!

:) ... you are not the first one... several newspapers have also sometime taken satire seriously and republished the news :) --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 12:04, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
On a related note, I was improving the article and found myself in the middle of a revert war with another user while adding the name and age of Kejriwal's children . (Last topic in Talk:Arvind Kejriwal ) I noted that in all featured articles of politicians, the name and age of family members were present and hence I proceeded to do the same. While WP:NOTINHERITED prohibits creating biographies of people who are notable only for being related to notable people, I figured this wouldnt be a problem. I'm quite new to editing, so your valuable feedback is much appreciated. Thanks in advance :D

Kashmir

[edit]

You seem to me a fanatic Indian where you refer Pakistani administrated Kashmir (Azad Kashmir)as occupied Kashmir. It is simply shame if you are trying to be neutral. Did you forget that 700,000 Indian Army is still occupying Jammu Kashmir. I know it from the horse mouth and have seen it myself. Do you know it is the highest militarized zone in the whole world? To put facts together, India has failed to win hearts and minds of Kashmiris. India is controlling Jammu Kashmir on the point of gun, and it is a known fact.

If you want to remain neutral, you should say Indian controlled Kashmir or Pakistani controlled Kashmir. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oppressedkashmiri (talkcontribs) 17:00, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am sorry about how you feel and present status of Kashmir. What I refer to is a present status quo position. Wikipedia states what is cited by reliable sources. You may read WP:RIGHTGREATWRONGS. As of today there is no country called Kashmir. If it becomes someday, we can change Wikipedia accordingly. No problem with that. But as of now POK is part of Pakistan and IOK is part of India. That is a fact. The part about "India having failed to win hearts and minds of Kashmiris...", has its own places and can be discussed in an appropriate article. But that does not change the fact that people born or living in JK are officially Indian (even if they themselves don't believe so). --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 01:18, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
If you look at the fact you have to agree that Jammu and Kashmir is a disputed part and so its people either live in Indian controlled Kashmir or Pakistani controlled Kashmir. We have to bear in mind that they must be called with that name. By the way, UN others agencies who wants to remain neutral call Jammu and Kashmir as controlled or administrated part of the two countries. For example Al Jazeera news also calls it administrated as they want to be neutral. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oppressedkashmiri (talkcontribs) 17:03, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I dont disagree and debate the fact that Kashmir is disputed. Now about, which name to be used to call. Pakistani/Indian Controlled Kashmir or Administrated Kashmir. This can be debated. I will suggest that this be done on the talk page of the article in question i..e. Afzal Guru, so that other editors can also notice it and participate in the discussion. Personally, I have not much opinion on the name, I will have to go through some reliable sources to fix my opinion. 2nd Nationality, whatever name we use to call those regions, that won't change the nationality of people living their. Another important factor, it will never change the address where they were born. For ex. the people born in India before Independence are referred to as born in British India, not India, ex. Jawaharlal Nehru. I will again clarify, in the present case of Afzal Guru, you are making 3 changes 1) birth place, 2) nationality 3) place where Pakistan president condemned Guru's execution. 1st will never change. 2nd can change, if one choose a different nationality, but in this case it will also not change because Guru has already died. 3rd can be changed upon discussion and analysis of reliable sources. Another minor point, in 3rd you are changing text in WP article and text of citation title. Here, you can not change citation title, that is text used by newspaper, if you want you can use a different news source which uses the text of your preference. I hope I make myself clear. So further discussion you can start on Talk:Afzal Guru--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 03:42, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Modi got official Designations from President of India and Certificate is also obtained from Election commission of India. So Using Designate instead of Incumbent will be better for Modi .But Dr.Manmohan singh can no longer listed as PM of India as Per Indian Constitution. -RahulTagtalk — Preceding undated comment added 13:06, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

hmm... I am not very active with NPP these days, so hardly get such pages (where user misplaces the page). More often, they are actually wanting to make the page. Sometimes, pages just fall into crack and linger on without any attention. see ex. Wikipedia:James X. Zhang (just found now for illustration). --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 10:50, 12 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I had already PRODed the article and was removed by the creating editor. So, I removed your PROD per rules. I had this on my watchlist to do an AfD, but forgot about it. If you want to write up a AfD, I'll come along and vote delete. If you would rather not, then I'll do the AfD. Bgwhite (talk) 07:32, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I noticed your PROD later. But rule was not clear to me about the validity of my PROD (I assumed that same person can not PROD twice). Thanks for clarification. I will start an AfD soon.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 07:42, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
At least you noticed. I keep forgetting to look at the history to see if it had been PRODed before. The only exception on doing a PROD twice is if the previous PROD was a BLPPROD. You can PROD an article if it had been BLPRODed before.
I'm surprised I haven't seen your name before. I'm always in some mess on an Indian related article... either reverting or refereeing. Bgwhite (talk) 08:18, 1 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Vigyani. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Akashdeep S Batth, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Article claims coverage in reliable sources. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 16:51, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for message Malik Shabazz. I did not tag the page for speedy deletion. Some other user did, I just merely made sure that wikipedia policies are followed. I personally had no opinion, if or if not it should be tagged. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 23:13, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Problem editor

[edit]

Hi Vigyani.
What I can see that the editor is new to Wikipedia, and so might not know what the 4th pillar is. (I've always thought that "Five Pillars of Wikipedia" is rather insulting and Euro-centric for obvious reasons, but that's another matter.)
What I think you should do at this point in time is give them a civility warning on their talk-page. I guess they can read Hindi. It might be a good idea to write a (very civil) message, with a translation for those of us (like me) that can't read a word of Hindi (or Punjabi) but can get a gist of what is being written via Google Translate.
Could you possibly email me what they wrote in Punjabi (in Punjabi, not in the romanization), with a translation?
If you think that account is a sock-puppet, could you possibly indicate who you thing the sock-puppeteer is?
Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 13:19, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Gurpartap_singh_kairon for all previous accounts of this user. Basic pattern is to add some of his preferred text to Sethi, I have been asking him and trying to teach about how to add sources. But he just ignore it and come up with a new account every few days. That Punjabi text I will email you shortly. I will give them a civility warning, but only in English as their English is good enough. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 13:44, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This means that you are copying the text from other places on internet. You were told this 2 days back also, but you choose to again do this. Also irrespective of copyright, I had told you that I have objection to your version, so until our discussions are over, you can not edit the article. That is the rule. So next time, you put that preachy text on Wikipedia, I will straight away report you without warning. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 23:50, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Discospinster did. Also, I didn't get it from AKJ Radio. I actually got the info from SikhWiki. Also, SikhWiki is a open Wiki, so thats why I used it. Check References. I modified that so it goes with the Coyright rule, Do you even real my article? Also, Why do you hate me, You probably dislike my article because of the Vaisakhi 1978 topic. Sarabveer (talk) 02:32, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Discospinster did not approve, he said that "you should resolve with other editor". Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing is a subset of copyright violations. I don't hate you, I don't know how you got that impression. I dislike your version because it is violating many wiki policies. We don't know from where SikhWiki got this, there is no way to prove that this is their original or they also got from AKJ Radio. Also, in general too, wikipedia articles are to be written in our own words, not copying text from anywhere. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 02:54, 30 August 2014 (UTC)r[reply]

Hi, in answer to your question, any editor can finish a review, although I think it's good manners not to jump in on the same day and overwrite the other editor. In the case of this nomination, I was away for 24 hours and came back to see that Mandarax and the page creator had resolved the citation issue between them, and since you hadn't returned to comment, I went ahead and approved the nomination. BTW whenever you see a nomination languishing for days or weeks without a response from the first reviewer, you can always jump in and finish it off. Best, Yoninah (talk) 12:02, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks. Since you are an experienced DYK editor, I will ask some more questions. In such situation whats happens to QPQ? Who in this case can use this review for their QPQ. I don't need to do any QPQ yet, but in future I will need. Another questions, when we nominate a new DYK, do we need to do a QPQ around that time or can we use any previously unused review for QPQ. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 12:12, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Both reviewers can use the QPQ, since they both checked the article against the DYK criteria. When you nominate a new article, you could probably use a QPQ that's up to a month old, but hopefully you'll enjoy reviewing so much that you'll have something a little more recent! [edit]

Hello Vigyani. Thanks for your expansion of the Sikkimese general election, 1974 article. Just one comment - when writing dates, don't use "2nd", "23rd" etc - we have to use the "23 July" format (or "July 23" for American ones). See MOS:DATEFORMAT for more details. Cheers, Number 57 12:04, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comment. I see that you have cleaned up also. I plan to nominate it for DYK, if that is okay with you. Is there any particular reason for removing the text out of the result section? --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 12:53, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go for it. I removed the text from the results section as I think it's unnecessary duplication with a table below (and also repeats the intro). Cheers, Number 57 16:57, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ashutosh page

[edit]
Dear Vigyani, I am a new user in Wikipedia and do not have much experience of doing editing in Wikipedia. Hence, I would like to deeply apologize if I ended up doing anything which you felt was a non-sense. I am extremely sorry about it, and have no intentions to create anything which does not makes sense.
Its just that I have lot of interest human mind dynamics, metaphysics, and Buddhist/Indian philosophy of possible existence of Higher States of Consciousness. Hence, this curious case of this Indian Godman caught my attention and I have been keenly following the case. I am myself exploring the reality of what is happening, and would like to understand the perspective in an unbiased manner. I really respect the fact that you shared me the link of Wikipedia's policies, but irrespective of that, I would never like to present anything in a biased manner or something which does not makes sense. Perspectively, I was just trying to edit things which are controversial but which appeared to me as painted black and white. If you would have given me sometime, I was going to support my changes with references of the recent court case hearings and associated urls in web news. I dont know how keenly you are following the case, but for me, it is something of great interest apart from the fact that it is a unique case in itself and has international ramifications. Hence, it is all the more important that we do not allow our biased perspectives to come into something which could affect the international community. Hence, I repeat, my endeavor is to just present the controversies in this case, which I believe has been overlooked by you or other people who have worked hard to create this page. In fact I appreciate your hard work and initiative in making this page, for when I tried to find about this man (Ashutosh) a couple of months back, I could not get anything on Wikipedia. But your hard work and endeavors has brought up this page, which would probably help millions across the globe to get consolidated information at a reliable source. With no intentions to be offensive and be non-sensical, I just felt that we would not do justice to the page, if we do not present the controversial aspects of the case. However, if you think my edits are non-sensical, I would abide by what you say; for you are a senior writer/editor and much more experienced than me, and more than that I need to respect you for your hard work, and I feel the kind of hard work you have put, I need to acknowledge you as one of the key owners of the page.
Do guide me in case you think I am not doing anything in right perspective. I would only like to move once you give me a green signal to go ahead. Awaiting your reply The Evolutioner (talk) 18:49, 11 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The translation of titles in references isn't a reason for delaying the review. If you propose a new hook quickly and replace the blog source then the nom would be good to go. I feel that a politician writing dialogues for and acting in first Banjara language film will be a better hook but there's no citation supporting this fact.--Skr15081997 (talk) 08:11, 9 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the Tips

[edit]

Thanks for the tips bhai. I want to understand, why there is a practice of linking only once. Shouldn't linking multiple times make it easier for the reader to drill into a topic without having to scroll here and there trying to find the link (if any), as a reader I often find it frustrating to search the whole article for a link and not find any, or find it hidden/lost in the pile of the text.

Another thing is, I want to learn how to call another template from within a template i.e. do you have a sample of a template that I can look at that calls more templates.

I expanded the template on Gurus, I applied the criteria "what a new comer like to see, that summarizes the life of all gurus" as a short-and-sweet tool of learning and remembering the details, but I also recognize someone who created the original template may not like (people tend to become emotionally attached and very guarded of any changes to their templates), as a result I might have to create another DETAILED template (the way I have it now) and use it on the pages of Guru jis, which someone might try to revert. What do you suggest? Take a look at this please: I added 3rd last column (Contribution and Death) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:List_of_Sikh_Gurus

Finally, I still do not know whats the best way to communicate with other users of wiki? My page? their page? talk page of article? is there a way to directly inbox/sg them (or we can just leave a msg on their talk page only)? I feel lost with communication sometimes.

Sorry bhai, too many questions, Thanks for the patience and cooperation bhai.

Cheers! Vdhillon (talk)

#Guidelines for the over linking is given at WP:OVERLINK (see the last line prohibiting multiple linking in article body). Mainly it is distracting for a reader, if the color of texts keep on changing.
  1. To call a template anywhere, just {{TEMPLATE NAME}}. Same markup can be used inside another template.
  2. If you want to make a change to any template/page, please don't worry about if the original may or may not like it. As long as your edits are useful and in WP policies, you don't need to worry. Infact instead of creating a new template, you should edit the original template.
  3. Best way to communicate is to use talk page. You can post a message on another user's talk page, but it is best to keep the whole conversation in one place. for example, I wrote a message on your talk page, which you could have replied there itself, instead of posting on my talk page. To keep the discussion in one place help to go through it at a later date. Don't worry about number of questions, you can ask me as many questions as you want. Another useful place to ask question is Wikipedia Teahouse.
  4. Another thing, I am not sure how you are signing your posts, but you can just use ~~~~ at the end. This will place your signature along with the timestamp. Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 07:36, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

... Thankx

What happens when people have strong and opposing views on editing a page. How to resolve it (so far I have not been in such a situation).

I feel wiki is easy to do for the basic thing (create the page) but much harder to FIND for self-learning and collaborating with others, its trail and error and lots of scattered info, even the how to guides are not so easy to follow (im computer literate, been on wiki long enough, but still when it comes to collaborating/communicating with others or finding things, I feel like am more like a LONE trial-and-error wikiwarrior in my own corner :) Any tips ... thanks.

To collaborate, you can make a post on the talk page of the article to find people who may be interested in working on the same topic. But unfortunately, not many editors work on Punjab related topics, so mostly we have to work alone. It is same with me, my primary interests are Punjab related articles, but I normally have to work alone. --Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 07:53, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note of appreciation and a question

[edit]

Hi, Vigyani. I wanted to thank you for your efforts to reign-in some of the more wild and least-policy-driven comments in the RfC at Talk:Punjabi, even though most of the more zealous contributors are, in a purely nominal sense, on the same side of the debate as you (though clearly your arguments are distinct from those who are voicing more emotional opinions and anecdotal perspectives rather than policy arguments. I know that, even from a practical perspective, it only makes sense to call them out, since many of those arguments are hurting the likelihood of the the outcome you desire, but even so, I want you to know that your efforts to restrain such contributions are noted and appreciated by at least one other editor involved there.

The second cause for this message is an inquiry about the facts of the content being debated. Now this question is in a sense irrelevant to the RfC itself, since the matter will be determined by the sources and their relevance to policy, but it could nonetheless help me gain some perspective on the debate. My inquiry presumes that you have some first-hand knowledge of both the language and script in question, which may be a completely erroneous assumption, but I judge you my best shot for an dispassionate and neutral answer amongst those editors on the page, so I hope you are in fact familiar and not just there on account of the RfC as I am. Clearly from your vote and comments you are of the opinion that Devanagari is not a major script of Punjabi, but just how marginal do you think the association between the two is? Is it, for example, likely in your opinion that 0.5% of contemporary speakers of Punjabi have had occasion to write in the language using Devanagari at some point? Again, this question is to a large extent academic, per the relevant policies and the principle of verifiability-not-truth, but I just want an impression of what manner of overlap exists. Thanks in advance for any insight you can give. Snow talk 09:55, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Snow Rise, thank you for the message and appreciation. Most of the other users in non inclusions of devnagari camp are from Punjabi Gurmukhi Wikipedia (There are 2 Punjabi WPs, one for each script, Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi). I also edited there for about 1 year, so I know them (other then brand new users). Comments by some other well meaning editors (ex. by Satdeep gill today) lacks citation of policies mainly because of inexperience of English WP. Punjabi Gurmukhi WP being a very small WP, doesn't have any elaborate policies or such debates. As you already noted on the RfC page, there is indeed a political/ideological undercurrent to the whole discussion. But, I am just interested in the present scenario, irrespective of any conspiracy theories.
Yes, I am a native speaker of Punjabi and studied Punjabi in Gurmukhi script. My signature include the word "contributions" written in Gurmukhi. I was not aware of that RfC until another user I was interacting with in another debate, commented there. Before the RfC, I was of the opinion that in modern times, no one uses devanagri to write Punjabi. I am reading some books and research papers these days for the RfC. From what I have understood, devnagari was used by some people to write Punjabi at some point of time in 50s or 60s. An attempt was made by certain right wing political parties to get devanagari listed as one of the script for Punjabi in India. The push was unsuccessful and only Gurmukhi is recognized as an official script. Use of Gurmukhi also has picked up since then and any use of devanagari died. At present, I am not aware of any actual use of devanagari for Punjabi, in terms of any newspaper, any author publishing their manuscript, or any community using it. The sources provided by Anupam in the RfC has surprised me and I am trying to find their original sources i.e. any survey or research paper etc. Again, I am not aware in terms of percentage about how many speakers used it at some point.--Vigyanitalkਯੋਗਦਾਨ 14:05, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I see -- Thank you for the insight into both the issue at hand and the involved editors. It would seem we're in a little bit of a sticky situation here, stuck between a rock (the likely reality of the situation) and a hard place (WP:V). It is, however, reassuring to know that the use is likely not just marginal but in fact probably nearly non-existent, at least as regards everyday use by a community -- and that no misinformation results from its omission. I will, however, reserve a change on my vote until you feel you have found conclusive evidence or exhausted all reasonable avenues of research, since I don't like to part from strict adherence to a pillar policy unless it is absolutely certain that a given case is one of those extremely rare exceptions where there is really no choice, which indeed this may be. That said, I think at the very least the information you just imparted to me (that devnagari was for a time utilized as a script and pushed for sociopolitical reasons) is information worth noting for our users, either in Punjabi language or in History of the Punjabi language. As to establishing concretely whether any significant use persists today, comment on the talk page seems to have slowed for the moment, which will hopefully give you time to pursue whatever research avenues you have remaining, at your leisure. It seems we have relied quite a bit on you in this matter, not just as the one Punjabi speaker involved in the discussion who is willing to pursue the possibility of the unlikely until it can be reasonably discounted, but also as a bridge between both the two sides of the debate and the three Wikipedia communities involved, with their divergent approaches and policies. My impression is that you are a real asset to the project, so thank you for your hard work. Snow talk 00:32, 27 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
