How do you get a bot to archive your talk page automatically?

What's wrong with my signature?

I know how to sign posts after finishing them (you add Valkyrie Red 14:58, 2 January 2010 (UTC) at the end) but for some reason, whenever I sign my posts it says "preceding unsigned comment added by Valkyrie Red. Even if I click the autosign button it still says that. How do I fix my signature/Can someone tell me what's wrong with my signature? Thanks! Your signature does not have a link to your userpage or talk page. Simplest way to fix it is to turn off the "sign my name exactly as shown" in your preferences. Timotheus Canens (talk) 15:33, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Prequels

In the case where there is a prequel developed after the initial film, we would consider that to be "followed by". For the Star Wars films, although they started with the later films and then went into the prequels, it is more helpful for readers who know nothing of the topic to know what came first. These films were several decades apart and resulted in different special effects, new actors, and more developed techniques from the director and crew. Although it may be confusing which may come first, there should always be a section in the article that talks about any prequels/sequels to clarify for the reader. Need Fellow Users to Help Me Prove a Point for the Civil War!

Hello there fellow Wikipedians! I need to help to make Wikipedia a more reliable source of information. For this I am talking about the Battle of Gettysburg Article, which was indeed a decisive victory for the North but unfortunately there is a user who uses articles written by himself to claim that it wasn't a victory. Firstly, any and all facts relating to the Battle of Gettysburg, victory or not, must be verified, by independant reliable sources. And if either you or the other user are using your own original research it is unacceptable for the article. If your only goal was to recruit editors to "join in" and take your side over another's to "help you prove a point" then no, I guess I didn't help at all, as that is NOT what the helpme template is for. Yes. You asked if the victory was "decisive". Most commentators seem to think so. If you look at the other articles on Wikipedia in other languages, for example, they pretty much all say "Decisive Union Victory". The German one though is cautious like this article is at present, and calls it a "Union Victory". Personally I think it was decisive as it is considered the turning point of the war, and after it the Confederates went into headlong retreat. The Union was also easily able to replace the 25% casualties. The Confederacy was unable to replace its 33% losses. All and all, it was a disaster for the South. It sounds like you are involved in a content dispute here, one that has been going on for almost three and a half years. I am willing to mediate it, but I am not going to get involved. I assume that you mean this edit. I would not, personally, consider that to be a personal attack, or in breach of any Wikipedia policies, therefore I do not think any further action is necessary.
If you wish to pursue the matter (which I do not advise), you could either discuss it directly with the other user, or raise it on Wikiquette alerts.

Trojan War

Ideally, there would be an infobox for the conflict since even our articles on fictional wars use the infobox (see One Year War for an example), however the addition of the box can be a tricky issue if the people who keep tabs on the article decide to remove the box based on consensus. If this is the case, then I would recommend leaving the article infobox-free and instead work on gaining consensus for the reintroduction of the box. Remember, at the end of the day all the box does in summaries what going to be presented in the article, so its loss is not necessarily a devastating thing, it just means that those visiting the article will have to actually read through the material to get a feel for it rather than glance at the infobox and get a rough overview of it. I'm incline to wait awhile longer before making a move here, I want to make sure that everything is out in the open and that usually means waiting until the last of the comments added is at least 24-hours old. Coordinators be thou for the contributors. We exist not to force adherence to policy or guideline, but help bring people to an agreement on how things should appear in articles. To this end therefore I look to consensus to establish a course of action, in this manner, I leave the major decision to the editors and place myself in a position to enforce whatever consensus emerges in a poll. A few things regarding your edits here and here.

  • That section is contentious. And the standing consensus is that it is appropriate in covering the overall development, use, exploitation, and critiques of the character. Please go back through the archives of the articles talk page to see this.
  • In order for this to be removed, an active change in consensus needs to be shown. Not just a single editor stating "I see no need..." It is unfortunate that you did not get an immediate response to you talk page post of July 21, but that does not show active change.
  • Your semi-bold removal did get the response indicative of the standing consensus, whether you want to hear it or not. Along with a return to the status quo.
  • Repeating the removal after that without bothering to return to the talk page can be taken as the start of disruptive editing in most cases. Doing it with sourced material that is in place with a strong consensus could be seen as worse.

Please don't create implausible or useless redirects.

  • Mr. Poppers Penguins (film) is either broken English or catering to a French-language aesthetic. Neither is a reason to create it as a redirect.
  • ディックグレイソン would possibly be useful if it were a Japanese-language topi and the article has started out there instead of under an English title. It's less than pointless for an English-language topic on the English-language Wikipedia.

And, so you are clear on it, a warning. Please so not engage in personal attacks as you did here.

Someone acting like the owner of a page?

Yeah, no point in mentioning names since no one even cares, but what do you do if someone acts like they own the page and will restrict others from making changes just cause they have a set way of operating the page? WP:OWN says nobody owns a page; if discussion on the article talk page doesn't get anywhere, see WP:Dispute resolution for possible ways forward; if it gets serious, post at WP:AN/I giving names and diffs. Military history coordinator election

The Military history WikiProject has started its 2012 project coordinator election process, where we will select a team of coordinators to organize the project over the coming year. I happened to notice your comment on Corvoes talk page:

I want to discuss a change because that's my right as a contributor to Wikipedia, but no one will respond even after using the ping template. How am I supposed to initiate a logic-based discussion if no one is willing to discuss?

Just a friendly reminder: Wikipedia talk pages are about improving its articles, not a general discussion forum. Meaning don't feel bad if nobody responds to any general discussion or questions, it could well be that people don't see any direct relevance to Wikipedia. In that case, you will be better off posting your thoughts elsewhere.

Therefore, assuming your ideas directly concern our articles, my best advice is: Be WP:BOLD and go ahead and edit the article(s) in question! This will normally trigger a response, assuming not everyone agrees with you. Perhaps you will be reverted, but you should normally expect that editor to explain why, thus starting the discussion you seek :)

How do you get people to discuss on a talk page?

I want to enact a change on a page and presented the idea on said page's talk page. However, it's been a couple of days and no one has responded. If it is an article the best way is to put the article up for an RfC, as seen here WP:RFC some people get notifications of the RFC and will respond to it, though I do recommend contacting the other primary editors and other editors of the article by leaving them a message on their talk page, to let them know that there is an ongoing RFC a article that they contributed to. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 16:31, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A few things regarding image files

  1. Try not to change files in articles by uploading a different image over the file already on Wikipedia. The file you want to place should be uploaded under a different file name.
  2. When you upload a file, make sure that the non-free media information and use rationale is consistent with the image you upload. Discrepancies between the two will lead to the image being removed.
  3. Non-free image are of limited size. With regard to comic book character, 1,500 pixel × 2,049 pixel is well above the acceptable limit.

And it seems you are still creating implausible redirects. Please stop that.

To clarify with the implausible redirects:
  • Redirects for incorrect capitalization are not wanted are not wanted.
  • Redirects from non-standard abbreviations are not wanted.
  • Redirects from non-standard or fanish alternate titles are not wanted.
Also:
  • Don't disrupt radio or television station articles to create unwanted redirects. Don't even add hat notes pointing to the other article.
  • Don't disrupt dab pages to add the above type of links.

What part of my comment suggests high and mighty status? I'm a comic fan. I also know how to differentiate between the TV show and the comic books and not including information that is only relevant to a small set of readers. The average reader that just enjoys The Flash isn't going to care that Cisco's full name is "Francisco" (and last night wasn't even the first time it was used). We operate from an objective approach. That is, character names are their credited names, not the in-universe name. That's why Harvey Dent is not "Two-Face" on the "Dark Knight" page. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. "Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

I don't think I'm your enemy

We all know that article talk pages are for discussing problems with the article. Your recent article talk page comments seem to accuse me of being the problem. If true, this should go to one of the Administrator Noticeboard pages, where problem editors can be remedied. Making such accusations on article talk pages cannot fix this kind of problem, but can only add acrimony and make reaching consensus harder. In my experience, content dispute discussions go much smoother when other editors aren't even mentioned, which I've heard expressed as "discuss edits, not editors". --A D Monroe III(talk) 02:12, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to chime in here myself, and thank User:A D Monroe III for his collegial approach in creating this thread. I recollect editing with User:Valkyrie Red many years ago and I have a vague memory of experiencing some hot temper from that user when we disagreed. First, I'd like to welcome you back, Valkyrie Red. It is good to see we're both still alive to argue about such comparatively minor points of ACW lore. Second, the passion and knowledge which Valkyrie Red brings to the table are formidable and could be enormously useful in helping lots of content area works get improved. We have missed you. Third, I think the subject of this disagreement is a very important point about which to disagree. It may be impossible for us to utilize the results parameter in the infobox, since the outcome of the battle is legitimately arguable. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Greatest of All Time. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
