Do you think this is a good idea
I have decided not to fight vandalism. Instead I'm just going to stick with what I know which is sports. Will you still help me even though I'm not vandal-fighting anymore? I love me! (talk) 22:44, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Duh! lol. Yes absolutely. I'm glad you're still here!!! Ask me if you need anything! —Tommy2010 22:45, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Ha ha alright. Thanks man! I think the best way to atone for my past is to not deal with vandalism at all even fighting it. I want no part of it. Just wondering do you like sports at all? I love me! (talk) 22:47, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Nope I was a swimmer. However, because of my experience in vandal fighting and seeing many, many diff links amongst newer users, I can give some pointers to make your editing experience a bit easier, from what I've seen, if you want it. I guess the best advice I could give for users who want to help Wikipedia by writing articles would be to always listen to other users and keep a cool head, which I'm sure you'll do just fine. And references.. yes. Links are a must, but I'm sure that'd be easy for writing about sports... essentially any reputable news organization, local or national, or espn.com would be fine. —Tommy2010 23:03, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- First off how do I link? I really don't know how to do it. Second off I see that a lot of users have their own test pages, can you help me make my own so I can test and screw up and therefore help myself contribute more positively to Wikipedia? I love me! (talk) 23:20, 30 May 2010 (UTC)

Of course. Users may create their own personal subpages for virtually anything and everything Wikipedia related, from guestbooks to vandalism (nonsense space) to their own personal sandbox. You can create your own subpage by using / after your username. For example: User:I love me!/sandbox could be your own sandbox. Of course, you can also always use Preview at the bottom, works just as if you saved your work. Regarding linking:
- To link within Wikipedia, simply use between the word. Such as Wikipedia to link Wikipedia.
- To link within Wikipedia, but show a different appearance, use the | (above enter), with the real title first. So The world's largest encyclopedia links to Wikipedia but appears as The world's largest encyclopedia.
- To link to any site outside of Wikipedia, use only one [ ], with the link in front, simply followed by a space with the appeared text after. So, (with http://) the world's largest search engine appears as the world's largest search engine and links directly to Google.
Does that help? —Tommy2010 23:27, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
It helps very much so. I'm going to go create the sandbox test page now. I love me! (talk) 23:29, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
Re:Rfa
Thank you for your comments. When I nominated myself, I was aware that most editors who succeeded in the Rfa process had many more edits than I do. I wanted to see what people thought overall, and to see if I stood a chance in the Rfa process. Overall, I'm happy with the result, but I want to get some more comments. --Slon02 (talk) 23:30, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- works for me! Just wanted to let you know. Cheers —Tommy2010 23:32, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I have a question that you might be able to help me with, if you don't mind. What is the proper way to respond to comments on a talk page? Is it proper to reply on the same talk page, or to reply on the commentor's talk page. --Slon02 (talk) 00:52, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- There is no real way, as far as I know. Personally if people message me here, I reply here. Some other people like to reply on the original person's talk page, however I think this can be confusing. It's whatever you want really. The tb template is useful though, regardless. —Tommy2010 01:01, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks so very much for helping me out regarding that coordinated "Joker Vandal" attack on my talk page. I've reblocked that IP and two others for six months. One was a proxy; the other two had no previous edits. --PMDrive1061 (talk) 01:22, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

I do not see why you removed the prayer to Chesty Puller that I typed on her page. That is a prayer that marines say quite often. As a marine I know that every night I say, "Dear baby Chesty Puller, lying there in your fortified sandbag cradle, if you see Opha Mae up there, punch that bitch sqare in the mouth. It was funny at first, but now those damn females are overrunning and ruining the corps. Amen and Semper Fi."

Concerning Tracy, California
Hello,
I've protected the Tracy, California article because of an edit war occurring on the article. I suggest that you and the everyone else involved generate a discussion on the talk page to reach a consensus on the content of the article. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. If a consensus is reached, let me know and I'll be glad to unprotect the article. Icestorm815 • Talk 04:21, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for helping to fight the constant vandalism here. Don't know if you saw the previous vandalism; while the third sentence is simply wrong, I didn't know about the second sentence, and the first was quite surprising, since I've only been there twice :-) Nyttend (talk) 05:05, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for reverting my removal of that comment. Camdan, who wrote it, was upset that I had tagged the article for speedy deletion while he was still working on it. We resolved the issue on my talk page, and everything is fine now. He requested that I remove the conversation on my talk page, and I decided to remove his post on the article talk page as well, since it is not even relevant anymore. By the way, I saw that you used Huggle for that edit. I just got rollback rights, but when I try to download Huggle, I get an error message that says, "Huggle has encountered a problem and needs to close." Do you have any idea what the problem might be? 95j (talk) 19:19, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
- I undid my edit so his comments are still there, but I can remove them again. I didn't know if you were being sarcastic, I don't get many people who say "thanks for reverting my edit!" haha. Anyways, regarding Huggle. Yes. Um first you need to just download it (version .096) and then you also need to create a custom .css page on your skin. You can view and copy mine here: User:Tommy2010/huggle.css.. just replace Tommy2010 with your username and save the page with the content. Then try and I think you should be good to go.. —Tommy2010 19:24, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Reverted my edit due to "non neutrality"
I don't even edit WP regularly, but do things like this when I notice them.
Before my undo: Capitalism is an economic system of giving and taking; mostly taking. Its a system where the rich prosper; while the poor and middle class suffer. The middle class is fading. Capitalism is ruining our economy. in which the means of production are privately owned; supply, demand, price, distribution, and investments are mostly set by the private sector and market forces rather than by
After: Capitalism is an economic system in which the means of production are privately owned; supply, demand, price, distribution, and investments are mostly set by the private sector and market forces rather than by
Now, if you're going to say that I was wrong for undoing that change, I don't know what to think about WP.
BTW, Saddam is now mentioned in that first paragraph.

the Saddam thing was because someone added so it read: Capitalism is an economic system of giving and taking; mostly taking. Whack! You've been whacked with a wet trout. Don't take this too seriously. Someone just wants to let you know that you did something silly. |
You have been trouted for: Hello, I am not sure what trouting means, but certainly, I mean well! You deleted my correction in the Pastrami entry. In particular, I call the the Armenian pronunciation bastourma a bastardization. Perhaps, corruption is a better word and it arises because in Armenian the sound -ı- is absent and whenever it appears in Turkish words borrowed in Armenian, it is substituted by -u- or -ou-; the same holds for locations, Hamamlı->Hamamlou, Khojalı->Khojalou etc. By the way, by bastirma/bastourma a variety of things are recognized in the Caucasus. Georgians have a dish named bastourma and it bears no resemblance to bastourma/pastrami. Azeris call the kabab marinade bastirma for the following reason; bastirma comes from bastirmaq - to bury in, in this case spices, marinades, etc. Hope this helps to see why I think the article is not entirely correct.
- (Regarding this edit) Hm. I saw bastardization and (apart from seeing it as a curse word- which I now know it's not) it didn't seem to fit there. Thanks for the note, appreciated. Tommy2010message 18:31, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

Reply for "I'm Sorry" NPWT and Sorbact(R)
Though being new to this medium requires a bit of a learning curve, when valid and significant educational information is added and then immediately deleted, it leaves an unfortunate sense of unjustified and ignorant censorship. For both of these additions mentioned in the subject, individuals who have no knowledge of these subjects, immediately deleted the content. This was based on some rule "G11" which means blatant promotion and advertising. The fact is that Sorbact(R), the item discussed, is a true paradigm shift in the wound healing and the infection control industry. The business people who develop and promote this product were wise in protecting it as a proprietary product and method; however if this is viewed as "advertisement" when written about, how is one supposed to learn of such an exciting shift in technology on this forum if it is immediately deleted. By the way, my username was squashie1981, and this was also immediately recommended for deletion. A bit disturbing! 76.22.250.25 (talk) 02:56, 11 June 2010 (UTC)—Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.22.250.25 (talk) 02:52, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

GOCE backlog elimination drive July 2010
Hi, I'd like to invite you to participate in the Guild of Copy Editors July 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. In May, about 30 editors helped remove the copyedit tag from 1175 articles. The backlog is still over 7500 articles, and extends back to the beginning of 2008! We really need your help to reduce it. Copyediting just a couple articles can qualify you for a barnstar. Serious copyeditors can win prestigious and exclusive rewards. See the event page for more information. And thanks for your consideration. Homework2 TalkWhat I do! 03:16, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. In order to do that, we're going to need more participants. Is there anyone that you can invite or ask to participate with you? Open proxy
User talk:64.107.2.115 is blocked but account creation is not blocked- ip has been blocked since 06 as an open proxy and today admitted to creating many socks (see page history)... block account creation? Tommy2010 [message] 20:54, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- It seems account creation has actually been blocked - Current settings are "Block all users including registered account", "Block account creation" and "Allow talk page access". Perhaps just a random guy who made some silly comments? At the very least this IP cannot be the source of his sockpuppet creations. Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 21:00, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your help with the recent vandalism of my talk page. I think I'll let this go a little further before doing anything... but I appreciate the prompt reversions. Accounting4Taste:talk 02:07, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Adminship
Hello Tommy. Since you have made 930 reports to AIV, would you like me to nominate you for adminship? Thanks, --The High Fin Sperm Whale 04:44, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Sorry to say this, but I don't think Tommy is ready to become an admin at this point. Just look at all of the trouts. He still sometimes makes mistakes. I also don't see a lot of article work. ~NerdyScienceDude (✉ • ✐) 04:48, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have to decline it now. I'll give it a shot some other time. Thanks anyways Tommy2010 [message] 12:57, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for editing my page on the Red Onion Jazz Babies! Big help:)
I thought for sure they were going to delete it otherwise. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.68.9.169 (talk) 17:35, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Wrong
This is neutral, Mezul Ozil is joining Arsenal after the world cup, i.e 2010, leaving Werder Bremen this year, fact, not opinion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.24.49.249 (talk) 15:18, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Wrong IP. My apologies. (and corrected) Tommy2010 [message] 15:20, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) I would say, however, that if it's fact, you'll need to provide a reference from a reliable source (a newspaper website, or Arsenal's website, etc). The responsibility for doing this rests with the editor adding the claim, not with Tommy2010 or anyone else. TFOWR 15:21, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer?
That word shows up as one of your user groups. Is that different from autoreviewer? What does it mean?? 2D Maestro Serbia Suburbia 17:26, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yes. It's for the new flagged revs coming out. You can request to be an administrator here and try it out by changing the protection level of pages (including the new pending changes option) and see how it all works. I am a bit impressed but I will look forward to see how well it really works out here when it comes out.. tomorrow I think. Tommy2010 [message] 17:28, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I haven't a clue of what that meant. Actually, it makes a little sense, but what use is it? 2D Maestro Serbia Suburbia 17:30, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Basically, it's to supplement the normal page protection policy that we already have. Wikipedia is adding a new option (for admins to change) on the normal protection settings page that allows either an automatic acceptance of edits from anyone, autoconfirmed or reviewer (a user group for experienced Wikipedians- not a big deal). If say, you're an IP or a new user and you edit a page where you need to be a "reviewer" for your edits to be accepted, the changes are pending, until a sysop or a reviewer accepts the changes. Go to the site, ask to be an admin and you'll how it works when you edit an article and change the protection settings. Log in and out and try editing both ways. Tommy2010 [message] 17:33, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- You can request reviewer permissions from any admin Tommy2010 [message] 17:37, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- So, basically, it allows you to edit certain, specially-protected pages? I don't see the real purpose. Could I be one, for example? I've been around longer than you (even if you made about 21 times more edits than I), and I know some ropes. Are there major responsibilities? 2D Maestro Serbia Suburbia 17:41, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- You can request reviewer permissions from any admin Tommy2010 [message] 17:37, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ha ya, you definitely can. Any admin can grant you them. Um, it's just like RPP.... it's basically to help deter IPs from adding anonymous errors or innappropriate content. Personally, I think this would be ideal on BLPs or FAs for the most part. If you're a reviewer you just get an extra option at the top of the page, with a new "pending changes" tab where you can accept an edit or revert it. Tommy2010 [message] 17:43, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- But you should really play around on that site so you get used to what it is, although it's not too confusing. Tommy2010 [message] 17:45, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- I generally don't get much into FA's or BLP's, and I don't need too many extra features. I don't particularly want to be an admin, but being a checkuser would PWN-sauce. I can't get to Frisco, though... 2D Maestro Serbia Suburbia 17:49, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
- Currently, anyone who edits Wikipedia has their changes saved instantly, basically all this does is change that. It could replace page protection I think- and any page can be flagged. Requests to have a page flagged will be at WP:RPP. I don't see why you shouldn;t have them- it'd only help out the encyclopedia during the trial period (2 months I think). Tommy2010 [message] 17:51, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't get it...it's not as if I don't have better things to do than try out random new features.

- Serbia Suburbia is an imaginary punk group of mine. LRTW stands for an imaginary prog-rock group called Logic Rules the World, and L4L stands for Lids 4 Loquacity, an imaginary hip-hop quartet. I love making up band names! Others may be random phrases or real songs I like (Sweet Emotion, Ballroom Blitz, Song 2). And that's it! 2D Maestro LRTW L4L 18:12, 14 June 2010 (UTC)

Status
How do you do the Status thing? And is there a way to make it automatically change based on whether you're logged in or not? 2D Maestro LRTW L4L 02:21, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- At the top of the page, next to log out and My contributions there are a set of buttons: online, busy, around, etc. You just click on one and it automatically edits the User:Tommy2010/status page. It only changes when you click on them. Want me to help you set it up? :) Tommy2010 [message] 02:23, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sí, señor Tomas. I don't have those buttons. Help! 2D Maestro LRTW L4L 02:25, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
1. open your preferences. Open your monobook.js or vector.js page (under the appearance tab). Create the page with the following: importScript('User:Xenocidic/statusChanger2.js');
2. Add
to your user page or any userspace page of yours. You can change the number: 500 is the very middle of your page, lowest is to the right.
3. Log out, reset your browser by closing it and restarting it and then log back in. Tommy2010 [message] 02:30, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
Well, that's good, but my custom MonoBook already exists. Do I put it under the existing code? And do I just directly copy that "importscript" stuff? 2D Maestro LRTW L4L 02:32, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
