Hi there. I re-warned the user. Warnings over a day or so old are considered obsolete, simply because the IP may be shared by many people on a network with many computers. If it is persistent, a block will be issued. Thanks for the notice, Tommy! 23:04, 3 September 2010 (UTC)

DYK - Censorship in Spain

Hello! Your submission of Article at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there still are some issues that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!

Just a hint that if you'd like to write an article about censorship in Spain, as opposed to one dealing with almost wholly unrelated issues, one good starting point would be the Encyclopedia of Censorship, p. 538-47 (561-70 in the PDF file). Good luck! - Biruitorul Talk 15:37, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

Khalid ibn Walid

Dear Tommy,

I've recently edited the section on Khalid ibn Walid regarding his honorable discharge from military and in this section, there is some factual inaccuracy. As an islamic historian and muslim, I feel that the information there is factually incorrect and based on vague and unsubstantiated sources which conflict with the sources available in the middle east regarding the relationship between Umar and Khalid. In particular, there is no evidence whatsoever that the story told about the argument between Umar and Khalid was ever documented or occured, and the evidence is actually to the contrary which shows that they held a close relationship and were very good friends.

I would therefore ask you to reinstate the changes I have made recently which you dismissed, as I feel that you are misleading less informed readers by keeping this story as it is, and tarnishing the name of two of Islam's greatest heros. Please feel free to check my information against other sources if you feel this is neccessary.

Yours sincerely Mr. Ahmed Abdulkarim

Hi there and thanks for the sincere message. If you believe there is a problem that needs correcting, be sure to leave an informative edit summary, right above the "Save page" button. This lets other editors know the intent of the edit so that such good faith edits are not reverted as vandalism. You can undo the changes by clicking "View History" and then clicking "Undo" next to Tommy2010 at the top. Thanks again, Tommy! 23:51, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Out of retirement

I thought I would let you know that I've decided to return to Wikipedia, only in a semi-retired state instead of completely retired. Life has somewhat settled down for me, and since I'm ditching pre-calculus I'll have a little more free time on my hands. Spanish profanity

Sorry, I don't know if this is the correct place to leave a message for Tommy2010. I just wanted to tell you that my modification to the article "Spanish profanity" was a real contribution, can't be considered as a vandalism, the few details that I added or changed were correct, in the information was some mistakes and I just made it right. Greetings, Silvia. 4

Hi there. Alright thank you. For something like that, that can be conceived as vandalism, you might want to provide a reference, although I should have probably read your edit summary better. Thanks, Tommy! 23:57, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Re: MLS

Actually, no, it WAS constructive, you just gave me a two second opportunity to finish what I was doing. I'm trying to get "MLS" to go to Major League Soccer, and for that I need a page specifically titled "(disambiguation)" to do so. Does that sound okay? There was no specific MLS-abbreviated page that it already went straight to with a "This page is about the _____. For other uses, see..." at the top. I don't see a single thing wrong with that. Oh, and "disambig pages never have disambiguation in the title"? Uh-huh. Akyoyo94 (talk) 23:26, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Ya, sorry for that misinformation. However, I think MLS should stay the same; there is a lot of stuff on it. Cheers Tommy! 23:31, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Let me make it clear that I shouldn't have reverted without a summary. Tommy! 13:01, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Tommy, you removed my valid contructive criticism here with the summary: 'If you can't take constructive criticism then maybe vandal fighting isn't for you.' might I suggest you take your own advice. I took your criticism on board, and replied maturely explaining my actions. Also see WP:TPO - a basic rule of Wikipedia talk pages is to not delete other's posts without their permission Jebus989 13:21, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Uh, no comment on the wider issue, but the relevant part of the talkpage guidelines is WP:OWNTALK - editors may remove posts on their own talkpages. TFOWR 13:24, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

← Since there's been disagreement and flip-flopping in the past (circa 2006), this really ought be done via WP:RM - not to mention the attribution issue that is created by cut-and-paste move of the dab page. –xenotalk 13:27, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

That's interesting, there does seem to be some contradiction between these two guidelines Jebus989 13:52, 14 September 2010 (UTC) edit: actually I see TPO agrees with OWNTALK later on:

Personal talk page cleanup: On your own user talk page, you may archive threads at your discretion. Simply deleting others' comments on your talk page is permitted, but archiving is strongly preferred. Many new users believe they can hide critical comments by deleting them. This is not true: Such comments can always be retrieved from the page history. Removal of a comment is taken as proof that the user has read it.

Jebus989 13:58, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

WP:TPO and WP:OWNTALK are shortcuts to different sections on the same page. So yes, the section you quote above is the section I linked to with WP:OWNTALK. Not a big deal, just felt it was worth explaining as it sometimes seems like there are a lot of policies, guidelines, etc but half the time they're the same ;-) TFOWR 15:18, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Jeebus, do not undo an edit on my talk page, per talk page guidelines; continuing to do it can be considered harassment. Also, the only reason why you're making such a big deal of one revert is because I told you to slow down because you made a blatant mistake as a result of going too fast. Let me also make it clear that I don't like burning bridges and making things hostile here but you were going extremely fast, arguably one of the fastest reverts I've ever seen (maybe except for L Kensington, the guys gotta be a superhuman). Speed alone isn't a bad thing but mistakes happen, especially for inexperienced users and you took that criticism to heart. This is why I told you if you cant take constructive criticism, then huggle may not be for you. Now I've moved on (as I always do) but you need to drop the stick. I'd also like to say that I screwed up heavily when I was new with Huggle and since then I've learned and grew and I can see you doing the same, but if you have a problem with what I've told you, you should ask in your own topic here and not indulge yourself in issues that don't pertain to you. By the way, I am well versed in WP:VAND. Thanks, Tommy! 15:10, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
I haven't undone any edits on your talk page. Check your talk page history before making such claims. I revert fast because I stick to blatant vandalism, it takes a millisecond to recognise 'pen*s' is out of place in an article about tomatoes, for example. The revert you criticised on was removed from the page history along with the original vandalism, so I am unable to comment on it. The subtle patronisation about being inexperienced is unnecessary, I've been editing here for some years longer than you. This issue did pertain to me, I take an interest in vandalism and it's a misuse of rollback, and if you're well versed in the vandalism guidelines then you realise you made a mistake here. I asuggest next time you misuse rollback you should apologise to the user and remove the vandalism warning (which is still there and another user has since commented on it, requesting it to be removed due to being placed there wrongly) Jebus989 15:21, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
The only "misuse" of rollback was failing to leave an edit summary, which I'm usually keen on for non vandal edits. Bare in mind Huggle is not designed for blatant vandalism, if you haven't noticed (hence the drop down arrow next to Warn + revert), as part of Ignore all rules. This is going on a tangent, but I'm really sick of users complaining about "misuse" of rollback because it wasn't "blatant vandalism." There are many valid reasons to revert edits that aren't blatant vandalism. WP:ROLLBACK is just a guideline, although of course I too aim to revert only vandalism. Now I'm done talking about this. Tommy! 15:28, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

RE: Jeffree Star Revert

Re: Jeffree Star Revert. You should do your research and understand that Jeffree star was never actually interviewed by LA Weekly and the citation of the source is linked to a false page created to imitate LA Weekly's Website, and if you attempt to follow a link directly from that page, you will receive an error message, indicating that the page is not an actual site, but a substitution.

So, why did you replace it with '/'? If you want it deleted, we can find out more information. Tommy! 23:33, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Howard King wiki

Hi. I've seen that you have edited the content of the Wiki of referee Howard King.

I have meant to take the time to edit that wiki once and for all, but I have been busy . I will try to update it once I have some free time, which i expect will be this friday.

Howard King's claims regarding him accepting bribery were considered unfounded by UEFA on the 20th of March 1997 according to this link in flemish:

http://users.skynet.be/Crystal/specials/SP4.htm

Where the most correct translation to english of the excerpt wanted in that link states:

"The sportive growth of the team was pushed to the background. Plans to go to the stock exchange with RSCA Anderlecht were postponed. The main sponsor, the "Generale Bank", threatened to discontinue their cooperation, but in the end they continued on condition that no more affairs other than Anderlecht- Nottingham would surface. Elst also talked about other soccer games. He was supposed to have talked to referee Keith Hackett before the match against Branik Ostrawa in october 1983. Also the game between Anderlecht and Malmo was talked about in a negative way after the Welsh referee Howard King told the story of his career for 400 000 franks to the tabloid News of the World at the end of 1995. He told about messing with European games, including Anderlecht-Malmo. UEFA investigated the case, but at 20 march 1997 closed it, because there was nothing that supported his claims, supposing Howard King used his fantasy for a lot of money".

There are also claims from Caen players that he smelled of alcohol during they're European game against Zaragoza, there are links to that on the french wiki.

I have been editing the english wiki of Howard King because I consider claiming that him being suspended, when UEFA found he just made everything up, inexact. If he accepted vice girls, there should have been clubs punished, fact that didn't happen. Which also doesn't correspond to the treatment of other cases of corruption dealt by UEFA. I consider that walesonline just misinterpreted the information they gave, I even tried to contact them, to clear everything out, once and for all, but did not get an answer. And it is the only, press information about him getting suspended, at least on the web.

Hope you understand, sorry for the inconvenience, and if you need anymore information regarding Howard King I will be glad to help.

Um wow. That's a lot of information. I only reverted because you removed sourced content. If you believe it shouldn't be in Wikipedia, simply remove it again but explain why in the Edit summary, above the "Save Page" button. Thanks for contributing, Tommy! 01:34, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

Just updated the wiki with the information I gave above. Hope it doesn't get vandalized...

PS, about your Plaza article: In the design section, would "rectangle" or "rhombus" be better than "irregular square"? Or is that more fitting? finalius? indeed! I'm back!

Why yes of course :). Im alright, 5 spanish courses takes its toll but it's not difficult by any means. Im on IRC all the time, highly recommend it. There is a anti vandalism channel i frequent that stalks 4chan and certain edit summaries that's really helpful. Huggle users and admins are in it so it's very useful. Regarding the Plaza Mayor article, it's an irregular square. Nice to hear from you, Tommy! 23:49, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

atheist becomes devotee

'‘chaitanya-mangala’ shune yadi pashandi, yavana seha maha-vaishnava haya tatakshana

If even a great atheist hears Shri Chaitanya-mangala (previous name for Shri Chaitanya-bhagavata), he immediately becomes a great devotee.

So all the great atheists which comprise of 99.99% of the world’s population can become maha-vaishnavas if they get the supreme good fortune of reading this book. Thus in my personal opinion, when this book is published and distributed in mass quantities all over the world, it will break open the gates of the flood of the love of Godhead brought by Lord Chaitanya and His associates and will hasten the advent of the predicted Golden Age in all its glory.'Vedic cosmology - planetarium

Disaccomplishment

Looks like its quite rare as i couldnt find any entries even in Oxford Dictionary but its used "in the wild". All i know is that its a far better fitting translation to the german word "schaffen" that is best translated to "accompishing". guess if your level english is 5, like you point out with ur bable-button, mine ist 6 :p. Greets from Berlin --78.52.194.133 (talk) 16:39, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

I applaud the effort you do, but on the bigger picture, even if it does make the German translation better, "disaccomplishment" in English is so rarely used (not to mention I couldn't find it on dictionary.com either), that it's virtually meaningless in English... so then we're back at square one ;). Good effort, but I think the other versions are better, even if it is not exact. Some times phrases in other languages cannot be exactly translated in another. cheers, Tommy! 16:42, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Peter Wegner

So I keep running into vandal issues with this as I am prob doing something wrong. Essentially I have created a page for an artist named Peter Wegner and the search instantly directs the viewer to a scientist named Peter Wegner. I am trying to make a disambiguous page that would have both artist and scientist on there so one article doesn't receive more attention than the other. How would I do this?

Koi Article

The section removed from the Koi article was not intended to be 'vandalism'. In prior discussion on the talk pages, several users felt that information was excessive and deemed it to be unnecessary and questioned its relevance to the article itself. In terms of consistency with other Species articles, 'comparison' sections or 'differences' sections typically do not exist.

Please provide an edit summary then. Although, I don't agree with that decision, it contains information which is exactly encyclopedic. Tommy! 21:49, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
There was an RFC in the Talk pages. Prior to the suggestions being changed, those particular sections were archived http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Koi/Archive_1#Origins_of_Koi_vs._Origins_of_Goldfish. That being said, I'm not strongly inclined either way to remove the information or leave it in. I simply wanted to let you know that my attempted edits were meant to be constructive, and not intended to vandalize the page. Thanks. 153.48.52.241 (talk) 21:57, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

I noticed you'd reverted a link to http://www.airmekong.com.vn as spam on this article. It appears to be the official website, so it seems a bit harsh to call it spam. I shall however warn the contributor about COI with their choice of name... Thanks (talk) 17:47, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

Spam, COI, soliciting one's own website.. basically the same. Not stressing myself out worrying about the small technical differences. Tommy! 17:48, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm sure you have a point. Inclusion in the article does in fact meet the guidance of WP:EL so it cannot be considered vandalism even if you believe that this user's choice of account name is of concern under the COI guidelines. I have no intention of stepping on your heels, so I'll take the article off my watch-list and leave it to your discretion. (talk) 18:00, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
