About the gas mask article

I don't usually write here on Wikipedia, I am a moderator and active writer on the [mask and respirator wiki], but after I saw that article I was really surprised at how incomplete, inaccurate and especially anglo-centric it was. I have original booklets, manuals and a bunch of original pieces. I'm trying to lend a helping hand, you reverted all my edits even though you only saw a mistake in the last one. Please, avoid doing that in the future unless there is a real mistake JeromeZP (talk) 18:06, 11 May 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Praxidicae. Concerning This edit, I was wondering if there was anything you could tell me about this, so I could further investigate. I would appreciate your response on the Talk page. Thanks, :) WikiMacaroons (talk) 19:38, 15 May 2020 (UTC)

Deleting a page

Hi! Someone made this page for me many years ago when I was competing at international level. Lately some sad bitter person called BlueSapphires has decided to attack it regularly. Is there a way to just delete it before I lose it? I don’t want to waste too much time making an account just so someone doesn’t write random untruths about me on a very public page https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronika_Cencen Ronicencen (talk) 09:11, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)Ronicencen, You can't request a deletion of your own article. However, I've nominated the page for deletion as you're not notable under Wikipedia's standards. Also, your comment in which you call a fellow editor "some sad bitter person" can broadly be construed as a personal attack and is not welcome here, see WP:PA Sulfurboy (talk) 10:20, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Sulfurboy, for the record the subject of an article can request deletion of the article. Primefac (talk) 15:33, 9 May 2020 (UTC) (talk page stalker)
Primefac, I assume this means they can request it, but that request wouldn't guarantee deletion if it passes verifiability/notability concerns? I probably could have phrased what I meant better. Sulfurboy (talk) 23:07, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
Correct. I suppose the addendum to your exact wording is "...own article and expect it will automatically be deleted". Primefac (talk) 23:12, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Feel free to check their history of what they’ve called me, I’ve had my fair share of personal attacks Ronicencen (talk) 11:11, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

Some of the edit history they’ve made verges on libel and had plenty of false information as well. If they really are an editor I suggest you keep an eye on them Ronicencen (talk) 11:16, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

No libel here. Ronicencen created an article about herself, three years ago. It doesn't pass notability criteria, should be deleted and rightfully is in AfD discussion. In this light, and Ronicencen made a number of personal attacks on my talk page, which were unjustified. Thanks. BlueSapphires (talk) 03:08, 13 May 2020 (UTC)

Plenty of libel, including the claim that “Veronika Cencen went to university of Lausanne” (untrue) and “did not compete at significant competitions” (also untrue and also a very inappropriate edit) Ronicencen (talk) 14:37, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

The page has also been labeled incorrectly as a French art association by you Ronicencen (talk) 14:39, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

There was also earlier inserts of highly inappropriate words from unknown IP addresses. You are free to check the history of that Ronicencen (talk) 14:48, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

There were no personal attacks but I did suggest you add a reference to your unreferenced images Ronicencen (talk) 14:50, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello Ronicencen. Just so you know, accusing another editor of libel is a personal attack. Stating that you were a PhD student at a particular university is not libel, even if it's untrue or unsupported. Simply making an untrue or unsupported statement is not libel. I cannot find any addition to the article that states that you "did not compete at significant competitions”. If this was made outside of the article, then it is clearly their opinion, rather than attempting to state a fact, and as such not libel either. I would strongly suggest you avoid using this term, as it has significant meaning here on Wikipedia and continuing to use it could be construed as a legal threat which is not allowed on Wikipedia. I'm sorry that you're upset about the situation with your article, but I would suggest focusing on what you can do to make the situation better, rather than arguing with other editors. Regarding inserts of "highly inappropriate words" from unknown IP addresses, we do take vandalism of Wikipedia articles seriously, and you'll note that they are not there now. Waggie (talk) 15:20, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

So it’s fine for them to add false and degrading information and I can’t do anything about it? Ronicencen (talk) 17:08, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Abusing Nominations for deletions

After inspecting your nominations for deletions, I believe you are abusing it and lot of it were declined. you use a pretext of paid, and I believe you are paid to nominate speed deletion. I will report to Wiki Admins and Trustee team. G5 only applies if the author was evading a block or ban at the time, the author wasn't here, and I think proposals to extend G5 to paid contributions have failed in the past — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rawad00 (talkcontribs) 13:52, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

All articles to which I participated were reviewed by Wiki Admins, unless you contest all Admins collaborations? I also saw how you continue to abuse and go over all pages I edited to add speedy deletion and contest what all admins were doing, and makes us double effort and lose our time just to clean over your attacks. I am so happy you are not part of the Admins otherwise, you would have damaged this platform instead of making it the Free Rich Encyclopedia. Any admin can see your speedy deletion unreasoned for all pages also how you continue when one contest your decision. Wiki is not a dictatorship I remind you.Rawad00 (talk) 14:45, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Black hat SEO

Hi Praxidicae I see that you often put articles up at AfD with the reason that they are sourced to black hat SEO sites. I wondered if there is a reference list of these somewhere as I’d find it very useful at NPP. Many thanks. Mccapra (talk) 19:28, 17 May 2020 (UTC)

Mccapra I try not to make too much of it publicly availble (because I'd rather these firms keep doing their shoddy job of disguising it) but many of the links here are black hat (some may have once been legitimate, like The Frisky or foreignpolicyi.org but were recently sniped and are banking on the name recognition and others, like the Statesman have similar issues to TOI where they don't identify pay for pub.) And how about this one? Praxidicae (talk) 20:51, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
It does make one wonder how a band would let a random fan onstage and then use the fan's picture for a their Facebook cover picture.[2]C.Fred (talk) 20:56, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Afaict, the tickets look "legit" based on what we require to verify (which is mostly just assuming good faith) but my question about how they came to be in a position to take several professional photos of several subjects they've been writing about still stands...Praxidicae (talk) 20:57, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
IMO, it raises two possibilities. (1) There is a professional relationship with the subjects they are denying. (2) The images are copyright violations and should be deleted. —C.Fred (talk) 21:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

okay can I make it clear to you guys that I am not directly or indirectly getting compensated for whatever my article is about?Kjsarat (talk) 21:01, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Kjsarat are you saying you have absolutely no connection to any of the subjects you've photographed or edited? If so, can you explain the last photo I linked? Praxidicae (talk) 21:02, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

I didn't say I have no connection to them, I said I am not directly or indirectly getting compensatedKjsarat (talk) 21:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)

Then you didn't bother to read the warning either. So you'll still need to disclose. Praxidicae (talk) 21:04, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
And I would still like you to address the question about the Masala Coffee photo. How did you get access to the stage to take the photo? And how did you allow the photo to be used on their Facebook page? —C.Fred (talk) 21:06, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
Apologies to Praxidicae for posting uninvited on their talk page, but C.Fred, this edit might answer your question. Richard3120 (talk) 14:38, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Marcia Pally

I'm not sure what you would consider more reliable than the New York Birth Records, or what you would consider reliable. The Library of Congress gives the subject's year of birth as 1951 (http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n92052992.html).

I would note that it would appear that many, if not most most Wikipedia entries do not provide any source for the subject's date of birth, see, e.g: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rupert_Murdoch; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bret_Stephens; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lauren_Collins; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yotam_Ottolenghi; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Stewart; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antonio_Banderas; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yuval_Neria; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_J._McGill; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lawrence_Bacow; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Bollinger.

Ancestry is the only available on-line source that gives access to the actual birth record, and it can be accessed for free by the pubic through the New York Public Libarary website.

The file reflects the record itself [3], but unfortunately, while the file can be downloaded, I do not believe it is possible to link to the actual birth record or upload it to Wikipedia.

I'd appreciate your advice on the matter of what you would consider a reliable source. I would again emphasize that there does not appear to be a policy requiring reliable sources for birth dates, and that many if not most entires do not give a source for the date of birth of the subject.

Thank you. PaulKovnick (talk) 01:03, 20 May 2020 (UTC)

Articles for Creation: List of reviewers by subject notice

Hi Praxidicae, you are receiving this notice because you are listed as an active Articles for Creation reviewer.

Recently a list of reviewers by area of expertise was created. This notice is being sent out to alert you to the existence of that list, and to encourage you to add your name to it. If you or other reviewers come across articles in the queue where an acceptance/decline hinges on specialist knowledge, this list should serve to facilitate contact with a fellow reviewer.

To end on a positive note, the backlog has dropped below 1,500, so thanks for all of the hard work some of you have been putting into the AfC process!

Indefinite block on enwiki?

Hi, Prax. It looks to me like Indrayogya ought most likely to be indeffed on enwiki as well as the other wikis mentioned here. What do you think? Or does the line at the top by Tks4Fish, which is later by a couple of hours than Yunshui's block, mean that they already are indeffed here as well? Bishonen | tålk 08:27, 28 May 2020 (UTC).

I'm pretty sure the global lock should prevent them editing even after the block expires here, but just to be tidy I have converted it to an indef on en-wiki as well. Yunshui  09:10, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Yunshui. Bishonen | tålk 09:19, 28 May 2020 (UTC).

User talk:Fthobe

Hi Prax, to my surprise today I received a notice from you that I am suspected of commercial activities on Wikipedia. Just a short recap: I tried to escape quarantine boredom by adding an article of a pianist (so far as I can remember, my first new new article). In the past years i have corrected plenty of typos on the italian, german and english version and I£d like to understand why the creation of an article a musician that has had national tv coverage in japan and is recognized in italy ( I admit, he's not justin bieber), justifies a warning message like that. Since i have started this article this morning I have been showered with warnings and community guidelines that are not really well documented for newbies like me, but I tried. Added citiations and everything and instead of shooting accusations in the dark, it would be really cool if you help me setting up my first article. Just to make also that clear: I am active in VC fund investing in social / ecological impact startups, an activity that is hard to conceal because a quick search on google makes that clear, but as soon as I enter the music business, I will make sure to approy flag my activities. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fthobe (talkcontribs) 15:52, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

Fthobe could you please explain how you are the copyright holder of this image? Praxidicae (talk) 15:53, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
Praxidicae In fact, I am not, I think I screwed up the metadata. I believe it£s from Marco Brescia. I updated the information.

Hi, I am sorry to say but the book published is not a self-published one. The book is published by Authorspress India. The critical reviews are present in most of the Urdu newspapers that have been provided as a reference. Please, check. I know you will be kind enough to remove the AFD. Take care. Hello!

I added three links to pages for which our Academy publishes research that users will find very helpful. These are not spammy additions. Please allow the changes to be made.

Regarding Deletion Nomination

Recently you placed a deletion nomination on the page MortaL - Naman Mathur stating it for promotion. I respect your opinion on it since there may be a few misunderstanding with the Language and pattern of words used. The reason for creating of that Article was due to the subject was Among the top lists searched on Google in India, yet it lacked a wikipedia page on which the Search users could rely on. So I made it in order to make sure the users would rely on an verified Source. The subject with 5 million YouTube Followers is certainly not an insignificant person. SkyVAC (talk) 14:58, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

There's no misunderstanding, it's straight up promo. Praxidicae (talk) 14:59, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

I'm sorry if you think it as a promo, but can you please remove the material where it seems promo? The subject is an Influencer as well as an eSport players with Significant coverage in news and also the Page has over 3000+ visits in past 5 days. I sincerely request you to remove the deletion nomination. Also the person mentioned is luminary enough that doesn't need promotion from a research website. SkyVAC (talk) 15:12, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Well you didn't Replied me but the other so reminding you, and currently very low on time since the page is nominated for Deletion. Can you please revert the deletion tag from MortaL - Naman Mathur ? And then I can explain you how large significance the subject holds? SkyVAC (talk) 15:30, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

iPhone 11 Pro

Hi Prax, I know you gonna love this. So, thanks to your guidance I stated all my COI on my userpage (none in music btw, I just love classical music:) and started adding environmental data to pages such as iPhone 11 Pro. The data I add is device specific, sourced and referenced properly (trustable sources + apple inc.) and consists of the environmental impact due to the production of certain iPhone models (the sourcing of raw materials, manufacturing, transport and first use of an iPhone 11 Pro consists of XXKG CO2e). Unfortunatly an anonymous IP user from India keeps reverting my edits. What should I do? Fthobe (talk) 15:15, 2 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, you are awesome. Do you actually sleep? Fthobe (talk) 15:18, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
yes, but mostly like a old person :P Just a note about your disclosure, you don't really have a COI with iphone/apple as products, your COI applies to your business (or other financial interests) so I don't think your disclosure box is necessary, assuming you don't actually work for Apple. You just need to steer clear of adding anything that could be construed as promoting your business (ie. don't link to your company) but sourcing to apple and other independent and reliable sources is perfectly fine, hence why I restored your edit. Cheers. Praxidicae (talk) 15:20, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
I felt like you took the issue with photo extremely bad so I wanted to be extra transparent and I don‘t mind having it there, we publish a lot of data in Italy regarding environmental damage of unused consumer electronics and if I ever come to a situation where I quote something we provided to newspapers I want to be transparent about it. I Appreciate the article help

Hello! You may not know who I am since I am relevantly new but thank you for your contributions to the pages Ezra (name), Kobe (given name) and Gideon (name). As a fellow Wikipedian it can be rather difficult to find credible, reliable sources for these pages on the web but fortunately enough someone like you was able to come along and provide that extra needed attention and filtration to these infant articles. It's always better to improve a stub page rather than nominate it for deletion. So again Thank you! ֆօʍɛɮօɖʏǟռʏɮօɖʏ05 (talk) 18:03, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

That's the problem, you shouldn't be including ANYTHING that does not have an independent reliable source. Everything else is just original research which is not permitted. Cheers. Praxidicae (talk) 18:04, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

EN-MilHistory

I have tried to enter the channel and it says I need to be invited first, so I am confused as to the difference between locked and closed? You have to have permission to enter it.

Galendalia Talk to me CVU Graduate 18:59, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Galendalia perhaps you should have asked some editors experienced with our IRC channels. It's best not to edit in areas you don't know about. Cheers. Praxidicae (talk) 19:00, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for that, but you did not ask my question. Can you please answer what the difference is?

Galendalia Talk to me CVU Graduate 19:03, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

It's closed. Pretty simple. Praxidicae (talk) 19:05, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
(edit conflict × 2)(talk page stalker) @Galendalia: the channel is set to automatically forward users to another channel. If you're already in the target channel, or block forwarding, you'll get the "invite only" message. Unfortunately, the list of channels is occasionally out-of-date; I've removed a couple of channels which aren't active any more from the list. stwalkerster (talk) 19:06, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Galendalia: When we close channels, we make them invite only so nobody can enter them. Channels can only be deleted correctly when they are empty, so we want a situation to occur where over a period of time, the channel becomes empty. Then we can delete it. We may also choose not to delete a channel and keep it invite only so nobody can enter it, depending on discussions amongst the group contacts and channel operator team. This is something I would have preferred you to have asked first, prior to making edits. It wasn't an issue in this case, but your desire to make edits then ask for clarification could cause trouble for yourself and/or confusion for others in future. If you do not know or are unclear about anything, you must ask first. Nick (talk) 19:09, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Praxidicae: - Thank you for completely not helping me out when I asked a direct question.
@Nick: & @Stwalkerster: Thank you for that. Nick all I did was put the padlock icon on it. So with the fact that the room is being closed or is invite-only, then the padlock should remain. This is based on both words of you and Stwalkerster. So if it is closed and you do not want people to enter it, why, again is this such an issue that an admin needed to get involved. I did not ask the question fist Praxadine reverted my edit. This was a good-faith edit based on the fact it is an invited channel for one that invites only (regardless of why) and/or deletion. Either way, it should have a padlock symbol next to it because it is indeed locked. Again, I feel I am being singled out even after I took a couple of days away. So I am failing to see the issue here, other than "Oh s*** Galendalia made an edit lets gang up on him again so he will leave." Nick, please stop with the WP:HA.
Galendalia I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish here. It's been removed. It's closed. No one may enter. If you have an issue with the changes, take it to the appropriate venue. I explained clearly in my edit summary why I undid it and there is nothing more to be said here. Praxidicae (talk) 19:29, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Praxidicae: I asked you what was the difference. But since you failed to answer that when posed twice to you then it is a done deal on your page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Galendalia (talkcontribs)
  • Galendalia The difference is that it isn't just an invite only channel, it is CLOSED so no one may enter. Common sense should tell you this. Further, you need to sign your comments. And yes, this conversation is done here, I am one editor correcting a mistake you made with a clear and logical reason; if you dislike it, you know where to take this discussion. Praxidicae (talk) 19:33, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Galendalia: I'd appreciate it if you didn't insinuate that we're jumping to single you out without providing some evidence of that. I'm highly active in the IRC areas, so it's only natural that I'm bumping into you over IRC topics. Regarding the channel itself - no, it should not have a padlock next to it. It shouldn't even be in that list. A padlock would indicate it's an active, used, and private channel, whereas it is actually a channel which effectively no longer exists. Yes, both private and closed channels are technically marked as invite-only - but the padlock doesn't indicate whether it's technically invite-only or not - it indicates that it's an active, private channel. I see no point in documenting channels which no longer exist, as it only serves to confuse others. stwalkerster (talk) 19:40, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
@Stwalkerster: - Thank you for the further clarificaion. The statement about WP:HA is for Nick not the others. Hence why it says "Nick, please stop...." At this point it is a done deal. Thank you again for the clarification. Galendalia Talk to me CVU Graduate 19:43, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
  • @Galendalia: If I wanted rid of you, I would just block you, don't get it into your head that I'm trying to make you go away through some alternative voodoo shit. I've been uncharacteristically charitable when it comes to you and your editing behaviour. I closed your ANI thread with no further action and some helpful advice, I provided some useful advice on your talk page when it would have been much easier to just block you and I provided useful advice here about our IRC channels. The thanks I get for that is to see you throw it back in my face, now accusing me of harassment. Nick (talk) 19:51, 3 June 2020 (UTC)

Undisclosed paid tag for Vlad and Nikita

Hi! Just wanted to ask you why you tagged https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlad_and_Nikita as Undisclosed paid. In a moment this was the most popular channel on Youtube without article so I thought it is a good point to create it. Maybe it not so rich contentwise but I think they deserve an article. It was my first article on English Wikipedia, but I wrote several on Russian in recent years. So what makes you think it's paid? Is there some criteria? And can I refute this somehow? MasterMao (talk) 07:46, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

  • This is funny, you didn't answer me here, but reverted my edit. If you can't explain it, why place this tag in the first place and why revert my edit? I'm just following the rules. MasterMao (talk) 17:25, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Because it has all the marks of a paid editor including your uploads of images you claim as your own work. Explain where you got each photo from and I'll consider removing the tag. Praxidicae (talk) 17:26, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
I mark it as my own work by mistake. It's definitely not my work. It's all over the internet. Regarding where I found this photo, i'm not remember exactly. Guess I just search in Yandex (Russian Google). It's not some kind of unique picture - https://yandex.ru/images/search?from=tabbar&text=vlad%20and%20nikita&pos=1&img_url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2FXExxnknYGl4%2Fmaxresdefault.jpg&rpt=simage MasterMao (talk) 17:42, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
You'll need to explain each of these images too. Did you "accidentally" upload those as your own work too? Praxidicae (talk) 17:43, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Just want to make it clear. You want me to find all this images in internet and then it would be ok?

Regarding that I mark it as my own work. I'm not sure how to upload it right way I guess. I thought it's just some way to avoid copyright problems for Wikipedia in the future by adding this checkbox. Nevertheless if you think that I mark in not by mistake, why am I denying it now? What's the point? MasterMao (talk) 17:52, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

I'm just trying to determine the extent to which you actually know what you're doing. Praxidicae (talk) 17:55, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
I don't mean to be rude, but what does that mean? I suppose you understand that this pictures are not my work and the article is not undisclosed paid. What is your point then? MasterMao (talk) 18:02, 5 June 2020 (UTC)
Anyway, I usually find pictures here - https://yandex.ru/images/ Here is the pictures you want me to find - https://kanunnikov.ru/images/logo.png, http://rcpcm.org/about/rukovodstvo/valerij-ivanovich-sergienko/ (2 in 1). This one is different - https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Rayevsky_vladimir_evgenyevich.jpg I've found it in poor quality and actually emailed Vladimir to get this one HD. But he is not an acquaintance of mine, I don't know him personally, just loved his work. Anything else you want to know? MasterMao (talk) 18:34, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

reverted animatronics, prosthetics

hello this is valekxsykes, Im not even sure if this is going to the right place,

I'm new to this, and learning as i go, and i just saw that you reverted all of the content i put in to these pages? these pages are garbage at this point, seriously. Alot of what was in there was not written by anyone in our industry or with any real knowledge. I have working in the film industry for 20 years and a lot of what i fixed was needed and completely accurate. I was a professional make up artist and animtronics designer who has worked on over 100 films and shows. I am not a spamer, i don't actually know what that is exactly but I don't send spam out. The animatronics and prosthetics pages need serious help and i added the "disinfection services" because its completely relevant and i own a company that does that now. Please advise how to add this stuff to make these pages up to date and real without being reverted. It says to sign this? Im not sure how to sign this? just my name? valek sykes

Adding links to your company is completely inappropriate. If we allowed that, we wouldn't have encyclopedia articles, we'd just be a directory of every Joe's business. Praxidicae (talk) 16:36, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello Praxidicae, Awesome, thanks for contacting me back and explaining, totally makes sense. if i remove links can it be updated? Also So I know , can you mention people and companies as an example? or no? I added several people with their fx company names (including my own) to the prosthetic one to show the progression of makeup artists that were mentioned previously in the article. these were taught by the old guys and we were taught by them. I can remove all of that as well but Im just trying to understand when you can add relevant names and companies since I've seen some on other pages? I appreciate the help seriously. I like to improve things but I don't want to cause problems.

No, that's not appropriate as we do not list businesses for the sake of doing so. Praxidicae (talk)

ok I just revised the animtronics section and removed the company name, no links, just added content. Hopefully that works, I will do the same for the other ones as well, thanks again, cheers

Please do not add unsourced content. Praxidicae (talk) 18:27, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Please explain how to add sources if I am an expert in this field and I cant use my company as a source or my name? Most of the stuff on these pages is obviously not even written or sourced by anyone who knows this subject. These pages are garbage and useless to anyone interested and after 20 years of doing this and teaching the subject I see this site as pointless if you cant add to it as an expert. What sources should be used, most of the sources on these are terrible and outdated books for children?

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and we require reliable sources. You claim to be a subject expert, who has designated you as such and what sources that are independent of YOU have determined this to be true? Lastly, read WP:V and WP:RS and self-revert your last edit. Praxidicae (talk) 18:53, 5 June 2020 (UTC)

Deleted Article of Abed Abest

Hi Praxidicae,

Unfortunately, my article named Abed Abest was deleted today and I would appreciate it if you let me make changes on that page in order to make it appropriate for Wikipedia. As you have asked, I am not paid for editing pages and I am just trying to write about artists and films of my country which are not on Wikipedia. I am interested in Cinema and try to write about my country's artists which have won prizes. I know that today I made a mistake about putting a part of an article from another source, but if you give me another chance I would compensate for that. I was not fully aware of the mistake that I made and the whole article was deleted. Or even if you let me have access to the deleted article in order to have the content, I would be grateful.

AfLibWk

Hi Praxidicae, about those weird references posted by Angel maureen... I saw your post to FNartey (WMF)'s talk page, and I have been wondering what to do, as well. Yesterday I discovered Special:Contributions/Agnes George shauri, did a bunch of reverts, posted an explanatory note on their talk page, and today they continued doing the exact same thing. (That account was blocked, eventually – I have not finished going through their edits because it takes time, but so far none of them has been useful.) Maybe I am naïve but I don't think the editors involved are malicious, just really not understanding what a citation is supposed to do (and I admit I don't see how it could be explained any clearer, nor do I understand how anybody could imagine that it is a good idea to insert a random link with a title that is vaguely similar to the name of the topic.) And it is extra difficult when they don't communicate at all. The event organisers seem to be aware of the problem and will hopefully change their approach for next time, but it bothers me that there are potentially hundreds of bad references out there now, difficult to discover. Maybe the only thing is to search for the hashtag and do a lot of spot checking, to find out which of the participants seem to have a clue and which ones need to have their edits double checked. *sigh* --bonadea contributions talk 20:10, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

I actually suspect some of these accounts are not actually part of this drive. Especially the two we’ve discussed as they’re pretty exclusively editing generic topics whereas the rest are generally writing Africa related and history articles and adding mostly ok references. I’m wondering if a spammer has decided to use the tag to fly under the radar. There’s some other stuff from this account that is very suspect but I’ll email you about it. Praxidicae (talk) 20:28, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
@Bonadea: sigh take a look at these edits. They're not spam but pointless and irrelevant to the topic at hand (as are most of their edits.) Praxidicae (talk) 12:12, 9 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi Praxidicae,

I could see you have reverted the edit done to Kishor Patil, I wanted to understand more as to why was that done.

I have taken care of all the format that needs to be followed as mentioned in Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons and Wikipedia:Notability (people), the sources I had used were from reliable sources.

Request you to let me know if I missed out something and would request your help to publish the page by following all required Wikipedia guidelines.

Re-edit: Hi Praxidicae, please let me know if there is something that I need to change in the edit I have done, If we are good here, then I'll go ahead and undo your edit.

Karen Lorre / Karen Witter

Dear Praxidicae I have been asked by a friend, Karen Lorre, to change the name of the page that refers to her. She has not got by the name Witter for many years and the page only relates to her career many years ago. She would like it to be updated and more correctly reflect who she is now. Would you be able to suggest how I could go about this? Many thanks, Pjisherwood (talk) 20:35, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

That simply isn't how Wikipedia works. She is most commonly known by the name Karen Witter and that generates the most sources and almost all of the sources state this. Please also read WP:COI. Praxidicae (talk) 20:36, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, Praxidicae, this is a whole new world and as you pointed out I don't know who it works. I read your suggestion and "This page in a nutshell: Do not edit Wikipedia in your own interests, nor in the interests of your external relationships," makes things clear about what I was trying to do (or shouldn't be trying to do)! So for Karen Lorre to be represented on Wikipedia, does she need to wait until she is famous enough under the name Lorre that someone who doesn't know her personally, decides to create a new page about her? Any pointers in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks again Pjisherwood (talk) 21:04, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Hello Praxidiece, Initially, I have not been taking money for creating articles about personalities and I have been a volunteer on Wikipedia for a long time, and I know the true meaning of encyclopedia. Yesterday I published an article about Osama Odat, and the review was accepted and the article was accepted, I never take money, I hope to undo Delete my articles, see resources and search for personality to make sure.

Thank you

Signature Osps7 (talk) 13:20, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Care to explain how you're the copyright holder of this image? No one "Accepted" your articles, you published them in mainspace with no review. I won't be rescinding my deletion tags as the people you've written about are far from notable. Praxidicae (talk) 13:22, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Also please explain why you think someone who couldn't break a record and runs 12 minute marathon miles, placing 24694 and higher in various marathons is notable? Praxidicae (talk) 13:24, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Praxidicae, There are sources under each article, and there are hundreds of articles on the Internet that talk about these characters, and I do not take money for creating articles, please next time check that the words are correct, I am only a volunteer.

I hope that you will review all sources and references to be sure.

Osps7 (talk) 13:28, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

@Osps7: Let me ask this more clearly, how did you become the copyright owner of this image, which is also a photo of a person whom you have written about. What is your connection to them? Praxidicae (talk) 13:29, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Praxidicae, Is there any problem with the picture?

I look at the articles that contain references and sources, and I also see that the very professional articles have been approved, and I do not take advantage by publishing about these personalities, and I have knowledge of them but this is not a sufficient reason to cross out the articles.

The articles on Wikipedia mainly depend on having enough resources and fame, and you can also search for these characters online. Osps7 (talk) 13:35, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Osps7 That is not at all what I asked. Please re-read it and respond otherwise I will be taking this to WP:COIN and requesting a block. Praxidicae (talk) 13:37, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Praxidicae, No need to ban, I only know these characters.

And I uploaded the photo because it was I who photographed it.

Below each article is a set of resources and links posted online.

You can also search for these articles. Osps7 (talk) 13:42, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Osps7 So you photographed him, meaning you know him, yes or no? Praxidicae (talk) 13:42, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Praxidicae Yes, I know him, but I do not think this is sufficient reason to delete the article. The articles mainly depend on having sufficient sources and fame.

I hope you search for the names of these articles. Osps7 (talk) 13:45, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Osps7 Let me get straight to the point since you seem to be obfuscating: stop writing about people you know and have a close relationship with. That's a WP:COI and your lack of disclosure is a TOU violation. Praxidicae (talk) 13:46, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Praxidicae

I understood that, but I was not asked to write about it, and I am not receiving any money. I am only a volunteer. I place verified sources in each article, which the articles I have nominated for deletion achieve sufficient popularity. Osps7 (talk) 13:51, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Osps7 You clearly didn't read the link, did you? Praxidicae (talk) 13:51, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
Praxidicae I have been in Wikipedia for 3 years, I know the laws of Wikipedia well, and I have seen the link.

But I am telling you what I see, and I also advise you to look at the sources inside each article and search for these characters.

I understand that well, and thank you Osps7 (talk) 13:56, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Osps7 Why would I bother doing that when you can't be bothered to read an actual simple policy? Anyhow, it's clear you're not interested in following through with policy, so I'd appreciate if you'd refrain from editing my talk page any further. Praxidicae (talk) 13:57, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion?

Hi there,

I contested your suggestion for speedy deletion of the entry on Marc Sebastian’s biography and I really am concerned by such a suggestion. Marc Sebastian is an LGBTQ+ activist, the queer community is already under attack and to see that continue onto Wikipedia is disheartening. Have you looked into the work of his group Voices 4, which has inspired movements internationally? Have you actually looked into the homophobia that Sebastian fought for the fashion industry? These are just trivial things that aren’t noteworthy- just look at the news the queer community is under attack each and everyday and our young people need to be able to access information on those that are like themselves, those that they can look up to. There are so many less valuable entries on Wikipedia of those who are just models or stylists and sure Sebastian is that as well, but more importantly and unlike any others, his activism has helped improve the world. And now even during what we are experiencing with racism, Marc Sebastian is supporting black creators and helping them build their platforms and using his to support them And the black lives matter movement and there are not enough notable people out there taking this sort of stand. As an educator and a parent, I am asking you to consider what you list for speedy deletion more carefully because the queer community is already under attack and if major queer activism (along with quite a noteworthy career) isn’t enough to consider someone “good enough” for Wikipedia, then obviously the community has even a bigger fight than I realized. KPiekarski314 (talk) 13:34, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

It would really do you well to read WP:AGF before accusing editors and the community as a whole of something so egregious. Praxidicae (talk) 13:35, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
KPiekarski314, if your article or any article was nominated for a speedy deletion it’s probably because it meets any of the criteria listed at WP:CSD. Seeing as you are a relatively new editor have you even had a look at what our general notability criteria before coming here to assume absolute bad faith? Celestina007 (talk) 13:47, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Yes, I have read the guidelines. Honestly a lot of people say to teach kids not to use Wikipedia because it isn’t reliable, but if you follow the guidelines it’s pretty apparent that the articles are good sources and this one is no different. Queer activism is SO important and Wikipedia should not silence that. KPiekarski314 (talk) 14:57, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

And I understand it looks like I don’t know what I’m talking about, this isn’t my first Wikipedia page, but I lost access to an old email address so I had to make a new account. This will just send the complete wrong message, especially during pride month. KPiekarski314 (talk) 14:58, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Sockpuppetting

Hey Prax, TL;DR There's a massive amount of biased manipulation of Apple articles coming from Indian IP addresses, they remove any environmental data, I think it makes sense block articles against this modifications.

Long Version

I started noticing it when I added environmental data to the iPhone 11 Pro starting with the following user

when he reverted my addition of environmental data to the iPhone 11 Pro despite being quoted well and surving a purpose in this article. After my stuff was reinstated three times and I went on a look and figured that an IP from the same region did much more edits, always carefully removing any negative data:

I don't really understand if that's normal here or not. Fthobe (talk) 15:08, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

This appears to be one user on a Vodafone India mobile connection (Vodafone IN have the v6 address block `2402:3a80::/32`, the entirety of which appears to be used to serve mobile customers). Semiprotecting the articles would probably be a good shout. -- a they/them | argue | contribs 16:58, 16 June 2020 (UTC)

Your edit on Petr Čech

I noticed that you recently removed a part of the "Personal Life" section in the wikipedia page of Petr Čech. Presumably, it is because the source may not be considered reliable. So what do you think about this? I did some research on wikipedia's stance on Daily Mail as a source and found out that the old Daily Mail has some good reputation. Thus, older articles can be considered. This article, being published in 2009, looks like a potentially reliable source. Further, you may check this too. Speedy deletion nomination of Bray Ketchum?

Hi,

I'm not sure why you nominated the Bray Ketchum page for speedy deletion? The criteria state "When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time". The original page was deleted because it failed to provide any independent significant coverage, but I had added articles from 5-7 different sources specifically to address that problem.

Thank you.

Just a note to thank you for info regarding "Invalid CSRF token" issues. I seem to be able to write and edit again right now, although I have not attempted to make any adjustments to one of several pages I recently established on lost 1911 and 1912 Edison films. That particular Edison film was a fictional romance set during the American Civil War. I thought, given the current situation in the United States—Wikipedia might now be taking extra measures to block malicious attempts to disrupt pages or vandalize any subjects, even silent films, that in their descriptions require the use of terms such as "Confederate" or "Confederacy", keying in on such terminology. Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Strudjum (talkcontribs) 19:42, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Karen Hall Stewart, page by dmaksymec

Dear Praxidicae,

I will not make any further edits. I want to do this properly and follow the guidelines, so I appreciate your feedback and comments.

I am not receiving compensation for this page, but I do have a financial stake in Fairway. It is one of Karen Stewart's companies, and I am now a part-owner.

I initiated the Karen Stewarts page over 18 months ago as she is one of Canada's top women entrepreneurs and was surprised that she did not have a presence on Wikipedia. So started it.

I was recently was able to publish, so I did.

Are there any services available that can do this without bias or any COI. I initially tried to find one, but so many seemed "black hat." I don't want that.

Sincerely Daryl Maksymec

For the excellent and illustrative table presentation at the Calvin Lo Afd and more so for finding a new approach to deletion of dodgy articles. scope_creepTalk 09:07, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Calvin Lo AfD

Just a heads-up: I have suspicions that your AfD nomination of Calvin Lo is being heavily canvassed. Several editors with extremely new accounts and minimal amounts of edits voted to keep the article, most of them even citing WP:GNG (I don't think it is very likely that a bunch of newbie accounts suddenly each have in-depth knowledge of project shortcuts). I would like to indicate on the AfD nomination that I suspect that the discussion is being canvassed, but I don't know how to do this in appropriate manner. Do I call out the specific accounts? Are there templates to indicate that canvassing is being suspected? Thanks in advance. Ealuscerwen (talk) 16:28, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

Yeah, it's fairly obvious these were canvassed and I'm guessing someone put out a call on social media. I believe it's being looked into - but thanks for the heads up. Praxidicae (talk) 16:28, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
I wrote a quick note for the closer explaining the situation, in case the amount of canvassing going on wouldn't be immediately obvious to them. Britishfinance also tagged a few of the accounts as SPAs at the exact same time, so I hope this makes it abundantly clear to the closer that some of the participants in the discussion haven't found the nomination in an organic way. Ealuscerwen (talk) 16:57, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
Good work Prax, and that table must have taken a lot of time to do. I suspect given Lo's wealth, that this BLP will reappear again, and thus the BLP will become a useful Honeypot for tracking future PAID editors (and their network of other PAID articles)? Well done again. Britishfinance (talk) 14:21, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Thanks! There's actually a script for the table (you have to manually add all the content and sources though, it's annoying.) I'm worried about the plethora of fake sourcing that has been inundating this project lately...I wish people were more discerning about the sources they're using since most of the time it's pretty easy to tell just by looking at their "about us" page...Praxidicae (talk) 14:23, 19 June 2020 (UTC)

Kasumi (song)

Hey there,

I was just wondering why you tagged Kasumi for speedy deletion? It s a perfectly fine page as far as I'm aware. It's not spam, it has citations and accurate information with proof, it's done the same way like all the other song pages for Dir En Grey, and it's not breaking any of the policies. If all of these reasons are incorrect, then you mind as well flag all the other Dir En Grey songs as well. That being said, I would like a reasonable response or at least a guide on what needs to fixed?

Sincerely, a fellow Wikipedia Editor

It is not tagged for speedy deletion and I did not tag it. Please read the actual template for instructions on how to participate in the discussion. Praxidicae (talk) 16:13, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
