Football box collapsible
Do you have a preference of a football box collapsible or a table for match reports?Kingjeff (talk) 02:41, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Seriously?
You do know what POV is, don't you? You are assuming that since you call the sport Football, that everyone reading the article must understand the meaning as well. All I'm trying to do is say which type of football in the lead is because there are several types of football played all over the world. I suggest you self revert. JOJ Hutton 16:16, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Saying "X scored an fantastic goal" is WP:POV, saying "X scored a goal" is WP:NPOV. This is not a case of POV or not to me, it is more of what is common use or not and I see no problem in just football (as discussed many times earlier at different projects). We use this att all tournaments. QED237 (talk) 16:55, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- Whatever you want to call it, POV, BIAS, or whatever, the point is understood. Your POV or Bias assumes that everyone reading the article understands the true meaning of football in this context. It's just plain wrong and shows a complete lack of understanding towards other nationalities that do not think and act like you. JOJ Hutton 18:21, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- You're forgetting that WP:ENGVAR applies here. If the World Cup(s) in question happened in the United States or Canada, I could understand your qualms, but they happened/are scheduled to happen in Germany (where the sport is called Fußball) and Brazil (futebol). There's really no reason to change the articles. – PeeJay 18:24, 3 March 2014 (UTC)
- First off, ENGVAR will not apply because it's an international tournament. Just as I was told STRONGNAT does not apply to 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the US. So basically two different editors are using two seperate rationales to push the same bias. So either it's an international tournament or we use the date and spellings of the home country, but it can't be both. Good grief. I've seen it all. Secondly the article needs to only say in the first sentence which "football" is played. All other references beyond that can be simply football. That's all that needs to be done. JOJ Hutton 18:45, 3 March 2014 (UTC)

re:Timestamp
Hi. You are absolutely right I could check the stats myself and update the timestamp and I will consider doing that in the future whenever I have the time. The problem is that when I am doing this as I go through my watchlist I do not always have the time and I should not have to do it on my own, but I should definately talk to the contributor. I have actually been thinking about making a information-template that I can use for these cases instead of making personal comments every time (I think we can make personal templates?). Something has to be done because the articles cant say "as of 11 January 2013" when there has been goals added far after that, but perhaps I have done it the wrong way and taken the easy way out just to revert. Have yo sleep now, but I will keep it in mind for the upcoming future. Thank you. QED237 (talk) 00:36, 13 March 2014 (UTC)

RE: Ryan Giggs page, Centuries
Hi thanks for the message, i could be getting the centuries millenia mixed up, but i have always been under the impression that the 21st century started on 1st january 2001 as there was no year 0, which would put the years 2000 and 2001 in different centuries no?
I know a big hoohah was made about 2000 being the next millenium, but i think i am right in saying the 21st century started in 2001, either that or im talking rubbish both are possibilities i guess.

DYK for Frank McPherson
On 4 April 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Frank McPherson, which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that, during the 1929–30 English football season, at a point when only one other Watford F.C. player had scored more than one goal, Frank McPherson had already scored 22 of Watford's 29 total goals? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Frank McPherson. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Edit warring at Manchester United–Arsenal brawl (1990)
You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Manchester United–Arsenal brawl (1990). Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. -- Ohc ¡digame! 17:39, 11 April 2014 (UTC)

Felicia Day
I agree that we should keep Felicia Day's birthdate with a reliable source, even if Felicia Day claims it is incorrect. The problem is, the citation ([1]) leads to a broken page. I can't find the citation on archive.org or by searching wired.com with google or with wired's own search engine, so I can't tell if it is a reliable source (as opposed to, say, just a blog post or a reader's comment to a news article). As such, and combined with her claim that the birthdate is wrong, I still think we should remove her birthdate from the article. What say you? --Yamla (talk) 21:13, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

UCL from the 96 - 97 season until this season - that's 18 seasons, correct. 95 - 96 United were in the UEFA Cup, knocked out by Rotor Volgograd - 19 seasons. 93 - 94 and 94 - 95 were in the UCL, knocked out by Galatasaray and in the group stages respectively - 21 seasons. 92 - 93 were in the UEFA Cup, knocked out by Torpedo Moscow - 22 seasons. 91 - 92 were in the Cup Winners Cup, knocked out by Atletico Madrid - 23 seasons. 90 - 91 were in the Cup Winners Cup which was won - 24 seasons in Europe. (Drive-by comment from a person completely uninvolved, and knowing shockingly little about cricket). PeeJay2K3 is correct, article talk pages are not open forums for general discussion, they are for improving the article page itself. PeeJay2K3 should indeed have removed the off-topic discussions. I'm sorry that this means that the anonymous user chooses not to contribute to Wikipedia as a result. There's certainly an opportunity for someone to set up a side project allowing for such general discussions, outside of Wikipedia but tied to it. --Yamla (talk) 14:55, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Football line-up editing
Seriously - look what You wrote. the fact is, we don't have any reliable sources for the exact positions in this game - so why these postions are even mentioned on this site? What is the source? Please tell me what is the source for all these line ups because I do not see any... Than it all should be deleted according to Yours "we don't have any reliable sources" and I am going to delete them as soon as You are unable to answer me for this question. But offcourse You are completly wrong with this ... because - IN FACT - there is an reliable source - the match itself. Seriously, are You some kind of ignorant or what? Please remember this: Wikipedia should be place where the facts are stored. And one more thing: where do You have any source which tell us that football-lineups.com is not particularly reliable?? I do not see any source for such statemant... so how could it possible in Your way of thinking that this site is not reliable? Am I making myself clear? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NeonFor (talk • contribs) 21:13, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
So, You are still not answer for my question about what is relaibe source and what is not? Why football-lineups is not reliable and ITV's (whatever it is) match coverage is reliable? So, are You trying to tell me that there are some tv-coverage that are not reliable? I could easily undo Your edit now, as You did with mine and write in the comment: "ITV's is not particularly reliable" Do You want to other users do such things with Your edits? — Preceding unsigned comment added by NeonFor (talk • contribs) 21:39, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
Ok. So, I will try to find some line-ups from any tv-broadacter on Youtube or elsewhere. I think You'll agree that any official broadcaster from every country is reliable enough. — Preceding unsigned comment added by NeonFor (talk • contribs) 21:59, 26 May 2014 (UTC)
Portuguese "da" equals to "de a" which translates to "of the".
"of Light" translates to "de Luz" which means "made of Light". 85.240.139.248 (talk) 11:30, 1 June 2014 (UTC)
DYK for James Wilson (footballer born 1995)
On 1 June 2014, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article James Wilson (footballer born 1995), which you recently created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that in James Wilson's first senior football match for Manchester United, he scored two goals that won the game? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/James Wilson (footballer born 1995). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, live views, daily totals), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page. |

Re: Previous FIFA World Cup meetings
Hello. I added the "Previous FIFA World Cup meetings" sections after seeing this: Talk:2014 FIFA World Cup/Archive 1#Argentina vs Nigeria, right after the draw. I also see a discussion at Talk:2014 FIFA World Cup#Previous Encounters. So as far as I can tell, already User:DerBorg and User:MarcosPassos agrees with me. I think they are interesting because many teams have recent meetings. Besides Netherlands v Spain, there are e.g. Argentina v Nigeria and Ghana v United States. Also most match previews in major media will include mentions of previous meetings, no matter how long before it was. I remember before Argentina v England during 2002 World Cup group stage, all the mentions are about previous meetings including 1986 and 1998. What does one have to do with other? It's just human nature to revisit history. I mean, why do people (including Wikipedia) keep mentioning Group D having three previous winners when Uruguay haven't won a title in more than 60 years and England haven't won one in almost 50 years? Chanheigeorge (talk) 12:10, 4 June 2014 (UTC)

Sri Lankan cricket team in England in 2014
Nice work with this article. I think That Incident is worthy of the lead section, so I've been bold and moved it there. I've tried to get a balanced reaction to this too. Thanks. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 18:13, 4 June 2014 (UTC)
- Sounds good. I think it's important as it's not happened in international cricket in more than two decades. I always try to add something to these cricket tour articles, as most of them simply state x team played y matches with the results and nothing else! Thanks. Your GA nomination of Glazer ownership of Manchester United
The article Glazer ownership of Manchester United you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Glazer ownership of Manchester United for things which need to be addressed. Bristol Rugby Transfers
Why are you getting rid of the Transfers 2014-15 work for Bristol Rugby, which I was the one who created the article first. Deleting the article wastes all the time and hard-work I did? NikeCage68 (talk) 18:43, 9 June 2014 (UTC) I have never said anything about taking full ownership of that work. I only made a massive contribution to the Bristol Rugby article for anybody who want to know who Bristol Rugby signed into their squad and which of their current players departed before for the next season of rugby union. These transfer articles are on other professional rugby union teams from the Aviva Premiership in England to Top 14 in France. Nobody deleted any of them but made contributions to them. 11v11
The problem with the Independent match report is it doesn't confirm what minute each of the five players were booked. None of the print texts do which are available to me; unless you have an appropriate stats book, 11v11 should suffice. Otherwise I guess the yellow card times should be blank. Lemonade51 (talk) 21:22, 6 June 2014 (UTC)
- Cheers for the line-up graphics -- just have a minor issue with it. United's formation was 4-4-1-1 so says the Guardian, so Scholes played behind Cole, not next to him. Lemonade51 (talk) 12:29, 7 June 2014 (UTC)
- My Lexis subscription doesn't seem to be working, so I cannot verify it at this moment unfortunately. As for how Arsenal qualified, an article in The Sun on 9 May 1998 states:
MANCHESTER UNITED could face Arsenal in the Charity Shield just 72 hours before they start their Euro campaign. And that could see manager Alex Ferguson in a massive bust- up with the FA. United may be forced to play the Gunners in the Wembley showpiece on Sunday, August 9 - if Arsene Wenger's champions beat Newcastle in the FA Cup Final. Fergie's side would be expected to play at Wembley after finishing as runners-up - but that would throw their Euro plans into chaos.

Which confirms Arsenal's place was assured after they won the league. It did not matter if they lost the cup final, or won it because their participation remained intact. In fact it's rare a club who completed the double qualified by winning the cup because it's usually the last game of the English football calendar. I can only think of one time – 2002. Could just replace the Mail article and cite the competition rules off the FA website for verifiability? Lemonade51 (talk) 20:44, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
Excuse me if I come off as rude or anything, but please explain to me how this is a pointless template. It does take up more space in the code, but it makes it easier to edit for novice editors or editors who haven't been using Wikipedia for long. Creating those tables over and over and over again in my opinion is a bit tedious, and I'd much rather just use the template. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 04:41, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
- Ok yeah I see your point. I'm kind of seeing how some of the parameters could be inflexible, simple text changes like the "head coach" parameter. But apart from that I didn't completely understand what you meant by "any modifications" apart from say the "officials" section which I can agree is quite inflexible now that I think about it. - I don't understand. Nearly all of the drivel that was in the initial template's gone, and I'm failing to see any "complicated" parameters in the template. Besides, all of the parameters are optional; if the card and subs parameters are left blank for example, it doesn't leave any of {{{this}}} or any holes in the code. Looking at it from a relatively inexperienced user's standpoint, I'd say I'd have a hard time figuring out where all the table brackets

Regarding the starting line-ups, you switched Oscar and Neymar in the picture. If I'm correct, Neymar started on the left wing but during the course of the game he cut in, Oscar drifted wide to the right and Hulk switched wings to the left. The file should have their starting positions. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 22:30, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Hey, to be honest i got them from a referee site and then here. But for the other documents, i have no clue and looked myself already a bit. No luck so far! Kante4 (talk) 22:38, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Mexico vs Cameroon
You could say the Cameroon line-up isn't official, but Miguel Herrera announced his starting line-up in a press conference yesterday, so Mexico's line-up is official. [4][5] The Mexico Football Federation even tweeted it on their timeline. [6] Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 15:00, 13 June 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about the positions of Enoh, Mbia, Choupo-Moting and Moukandjo on the SVG. The line-up says Choupo-Moting and Moukandjo are AM's, but Enoh and Mbia are in the AM positions on the SVG. Davykamanzi → talk • contribs • alter ego 15:44, 13 June 2014 (UTC)

I just moved the article Arthur Potts to Arthur Potts (footballer) and will be making Arthur Potts into a disambiguation page. Your watchlist page User:PeeJay2K3/Manchester United F.C., which you noted you'd prefer if others didn't edit it, links to Arthur Potts, so you may wish to update that link to Arthur Potts (footballer).
