AFD

Hi MusikAnimal, Hope all's well, Umm basically I've the exact same issue as what you had here, I closed Ruth Kearney as Redirect to Primeval but somehow it ended up also redirecting Priveval to Primeval [1] and until I was reverted [2] I was completely oblivious to it so was wondering if anything could be done ?
Seeing as ZMan's never on and you're a wizz at technical stuff I thought I'd ask you, Perhaps I should ask at WP:VPT ?
Anyway thanks, –Davey2010Talk 02:24, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

@Davey2010: Going to try to take a look. Seems like it would as simple as checking if there's a redirect, and if so, well, not redirecting! Always easier said than done, of course, but I'm willing to give it a try :) MusikAnimal talk 02:34, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Ah brilliant thanks so much and good luck - You'll probably need it lol . –Davey2010Talk 02:39, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
@Davey2010: I see exactly what's causing it... it's passing redirects=1 to the API when fetching info about the page to delete. That parameter tells the API to resolve any redirects, and fetch info about the target of the redirect rather than the page we asked to get info about. I can only assume there was a reason Mr.Z added that. Can you think of any scenario where you would want it to redirect? MusikAnimal talk 03:07, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
@Davey2010: Disregard the above... First let me get down what the problem is. In my case there was a redirect in place on the article that was the subject of the AfD. When I closed it as redirect it followed the redirect to the target page, which happened to be the page I wanted to redirect to. So, it blanked it and redirected to itself. That all sounds really confusing, I know... but anyway in your case there wasn't already a redirect in place, right? So seems like the bug is not the bug I thought it was MusikAnimal talk 03:27, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Yup it's most definitely confusing lol, Nope don't think so - Basically I wanted Ruth Kearney redirected to Primeval and Primeval was already an article before closure and should've been after (Sorry If I'm sounding dumb but I'm trying not be confusing lol), Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 04:05, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Hello from Indyrolexalms

Thanks for your email. I didn't include the reasons as I didn't know how to describe them. I will try and do so here. First - two of the cited articles are not valid/available #14 and #15. Second - I believe it is abnormal and unfair to post info relating to probations and peer criticism - for any driver - including Milka Duno. Many IndyCar drivers have been placed on probation during their career - some several times - and these include Indy 500 winners and also IndyCar Series champions - but there is no mention of this on any of their wiki pages. Perhaps they have been posted there at some time - but if so, someone has removed them. I would say that for IndyCar drivers - many have received probations - but none show up on their wiki - and I don't think Milka Duno should be singled out for it. On the topic of peer criticism - drivers criticizing other drivers in media occurs very often - and there are literally hundreds and hundreds of examples of this - and some of the drivers that have criticized Milka Duno have also criticized many other drivers - and have also been the subject of criticism from other drivers themselves. But none of that appears on any of their wiki pages. As probations and or peer criticisms of other drivers are not mentioned on their wiki pages it is incredibly unfair - abnormal - not the "standard" as far as IndyCar driver wiki pages - and it is unfair for Milka Duno, or any other driver, to be singled out for this. Indyrolexalms (talk) 16:11, 28 August 2015 (UTC) Would you be willing to describe to me in what way I can condense all of the above into a reason for the edit - so that the edit sticks?

@Indyrolexalms: This seems like reasonable rationale to remove the content, you just need to state why when you do it. Otherwise it looks like vandalism. I have to ask... when you first hit save, did you not get an automated message telling you to use an edit summary? I genuinely want to know if you saw it, and it's okay if you didn't. Anyway, feel free to remove the content again, and try to briefly state why this time. If you're unable to be concise, consider saying "see talk page" and then put your rationale on the article talk page. Hope this helps, and sorry this process was not more clear to you MusikAnimal talk 16:17, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Thanks - I will try that.Indyrolexalms (talk) 17:07, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

@Indyrolexalms: No problem, but back to my question... did you see the automated message? I'm not ridiculing you or anything, just trying to find out how effective that message is, as I created it. If you don't mind me asking, what was the experience like? Did you think "oh the save just didn't work, let me try again", and perhaps the message was not prominent enough? Or did you see the message and not understand what it meant? If you did see the message and still chose not use an edit summary that is OK. I'm not criticizing, just want your valuable input. Thank you for your help as I try to make this process more user-friendly for newcomers! MusikAnimal talk 17:13, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

No problem asking - I didn't see it the first time. But I understand that reasons for edits are requested and informative - but I just didn't know how to condense my reasoning. Many thanks again for your suggestions and advice - I really appreciate it.Indyrolexalms (talk) 17:24, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Gotcha, so the message is not prominent enough I guess. I will work on it. Thank you! MusikAnimal talk 17:25, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

2015 BWF Super Series

The 2015 BWF Super Series is a page where is created long time ago, how you possible delete a page under criteria of G7? --Aleenf1 12:20, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

Hmm looks the page was moved to 2015 BWF Superseries, then Jarmur restarted 2015 BWF Super Series. Three revisions later they blanked the page, and it was deleted under G7. 2015 BWF Superseries was then moved back to its original home 2015 BWF Super Series. So it looks like I deleted that one but in fact I only deleted four revisions, all that were made in the same day. I've locked the page from further moves MusikAnimal talk 14:29, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
I think you just block me from editing, i'm sick of his behaviour, just look to his contributions, he moving a mass of page without any discussion. Jarmur (talk · contribs) He force me to be move warring. --Aleenf1 15:03, 31 August 2015 (UTC)
Still the same, i think he like work on his own, no discussion, and only want his way, still moving a page based on his like. --Aleenf1 13:07, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello from Jarmur

I've created page of 2015 BWF Superseries Finals but someone tried to move/delete my page and I just want to revert my page that I created. Why did you also revert my page to their action? Thx Jarmur (talk) 23:50, 31 August 2015 (UTC)

@Jarmur: This doesn't seem worthy of a standalone article. Why not include the information about the finals on the main 2015 BWF Super Series page? MusikAnimal talk 14:08, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

The article of 2015 BWF Superseries Finals is different with 2015 BWF Super Series, 2015 BWF Superseries Finals is a part of 2015 BWF Super Series which is same like others 2015 BWF Superseries tournaments such as Indonesia Open, Malaysia Open etc. 2015 BWF Superseries Finals is final tournament of BWF Superseries every year. I think you are not badminton lover so you don't know about this. :)) I suggest you to visit www.bwfbadminton.org. But it's OK, I can create the new one :)) RegardsJarmur (talk) 14:31, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

@Jarmur: I understand it the finals are a part of 2015 BWF Super Series, that is precisely my point. There's no need for them to be separate articles unless you have substantial content to accompany it, otherwise you can just make the finals it's own section within 2015 BWF Super Series MusikAnimal talk 14:49, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Ok, but you can not move/redirect it to 2015 BWF Super Series, just make it link to. This is because later this article will have substantial content. Thx Jarmur (talk) 15:00, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

You just cannot workout with other Wikipedian, you are not the one who solely contributing here, change a page title need a discussion, and what the heck you going to create 2016 tournament while dates still far away? --Aleenf1 15:09, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
Sorry, MusikAnimal, that is beyond the boundaries, this user is spoiled the consistency of the tournament, can you or some others work something? --Aleenf1 15:11, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
@Aleenf1: I just followed the update from Badminton World Federation (BWF), if BWF has released new tournament calendar I will also update it even until 2017 tournament calendar because it's from the official Association. I will not follow you of course and will follow you if your modify based on BWF standard. Very sorry, regards Jarmur (talk) 16:31, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello from GatorGirl88

Hello,

I hope you're doing well. I wanted to reach out in reference to a page you had previously taken down. I am planning on uploading a Wikipedia page on TechnologyAdvice. Here is a link to the updated copy: https://docs.google.com/document/d/152uhhyCR1uu6J4rgRqZ2N4iS5IG-sxq0il2JWLPHzfQ/edit?usp=sharing. A previous Wikipedia editor had uploaded a page about TechnologyAdvice outside of the editorial process and since her editorship was terminated, the page was taken down. The editors we corresponded with immediately afterwards said to continue trying to submit the page. Please let me know if you have any feedback, edits, or suggestions. I want to make sure I go through the proper channels and ensure that each step in the process is completed correctly. I appreciate your insight! GatorGirl88 (talk) 12:34, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

@TechnologyAdvice: Thanks for reaching out to me! I deleted TechnologyAdvice not because the author blanked it, qualifying it for G7 speedy deletion. They were subsequently blocked for other unrelated matters. Your article at first glance looks good, but you should get on-wiki. Moving forward when you want to create a "draft" article, you can do so right here, at Draft:TechnologyAdvice, for instance. Then when you're done you can move the page to TechnologyAdvice. If you want a thorough review of your work before publishing it, I recommend going through our Articles for Creation program. To do this, create your draft using the article wizard, and then paste your content in, clean up any formatting as needed, then submit it for review. Hope this helps MusikAnimal talk 14:18, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
FYI, this was an orangemoody page --Guerillero | Parlez Moi 01:40, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Keep it up, and many many thanks for the shiny barnstar! MusikAnimal talk 18:51, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

IP user at it again

Earlier today, you blocked Special:contributions/83.220.237.214. I believe that Special:contributions/83.220.238.191 is likely the same person, and has violated a separate level 4 warning. Reason for this belief is because the editor made changes on several of the same pages and exhibits a similar style of vandalism. In any case, the level 4 warning was given for vandalizing user talk:ClueBot Commons and the user subsequently vandalized cactus (disambiguation). (The violation of the level 4 warning is itself sufficient to take action, of course, but I'm mentioning the link in case this would affect any sanctions you might impose.) Etamni | ✉   19:40, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Sorry I didn't get to this message sooner, looks like they've moved on so I won't proceed with a block. Definitely the same user, I'd say. Based on the nature of the edits and obvious familiarity with how things work internally, I believe this to block evasion or sockpuppetry of sorts, probably of a long-term abuser. Thanks for keeping an eye out! MusikAnimal talk 14:11, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
No worries. I have watches on both talk pages and will immediately notice if additional warnings show up. Etamni | ✉   21:34, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello from D0kkaebi

Hello, Thank you for the edit war advise. It was also advised by Jaaron95 to fill-in a noticeboard for editwar so I opened it here and gave all the elements to judge. If you can protect the page in the meantime, it would be wonderful. D0kkaebi (talk) 23:44, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi

I am not sure you will do anything, but I just would like for you to take a look at the continued edit-warring at Murder of Anni Dewani. It is the same two users going at it again and again, even after warnings. Thanks.--BabbaQ (talk) 23:50, 1 September 2015 (UTC)

Fully protected... again. Next time will surely involve blocks if the same users continue to edit war MusikAnimal talk 00:15, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Hi. You seem to be the person who locked the page? You'll note on the talk page of that article I suggested that be done last week. And that any subsequent changes only be made by consensus. The other editors- who then continued to make considerable changes to the article- declined.
I made no changes at all since that time. However as the article became increasingly advocatory and rhetorical I changed, after one week, one particularly egregious paragraph. So changing one paragraph over the course of one week you consider "edit warring"?Lane99 (talk) 08:42, 2 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello from Wikibaba1977

sorry but I wanted to let you know that i didnt contributed to List of Indian comedy films . May be its because of shared IP.Wikibaba1977 (talk) 04:42, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

I reverted some vandalism there several months ago, maybe the IP belonged to you. Not sure, but you have nothing worry about MusikAnimal talk 19:22, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi MusikAnimal, I've seen two SPIs recently opened (above is one of them) that are not structured properly. I'm assuming they were opened using Twinkle, and I wondered if you could look at it. This edit shows you what was missing from the case. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 08:31, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Hey Bbb23! Are we sure they used Twinkle? If they did the edit summary should read something like "creating report for User:Example", as opposed to the wikitext. I'm about to sign off for the weekend (for the most part), but am happy to take a closer look Monday. Cheers MusikAnimal talk 19:20, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
Apparently not. Looks like they opened it at WP:SPI the old-fashioned way but something went wrong. Should have been done in one edit, but it took them four. #2 and #3 they were trying to fix whatever went wrong, and #4 they gave up and did it by hand but incorrectly. Sorry. I should have looked before posting here. Have a great weekend!--Bbb23 (talk) 21:15, 4 September 2015 (UTC)

Please don't bite newbies as you did at User:Snicol2! Please assume good faith, and give them a chance to make contributions rather than immediately deleting their user page. I've restored their page for now. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 22:17, 3 September 2015 (UTC)

@Mike Peel: I'll admit I was quick to delete it, in what was perhaps a momentary lapse of judgement, but I think it clearly meets U5 speedy deletion criteria. Rest assured I'm not a biter! MusikAnimal talk 22:23, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
(by talk page watcher) BTW, some of the edits to the user page were made from an IP address that does have a contribution history going back several months. I suspect the IP user has simply decided to create an account, and has been around long enough to see that many users have user pages with some info about the users. While the page may technically meet the speedy deletion criteria, the IP user's history should be taken into consideration, and the user needs to be given a chance to contribute. Etamni | ✉   22:33, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
The IP belongs to a university so is very likely shared, but agreed I think the issue was jumping to CSD rather than letting it play out to what could be a meaningful contributor, invalidating the U5 criteria. It certainly comes off bitey deleting that quickly, but understand this wasn't my intention. Thanks to you both for your critique and I'll surely be more careful moving forward. I appreciate any room for improvement being brought to my attention. Best MusikAnimal talk 22:37, 3 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the contemplative response! It would definitely have been better to have avoided jumping directly to CSD - a note of warning on their talk page might have been a good approach to take here. For background info: they registered during a Wikipedia training session (Wikipedia:GLAM/MGS/Events_and_Workshops/UoE_training_02.09.15), and getting people to edit their user pages as their first edits is a standard way of introducing new users to wikitext without running into problems in mainspace (new articles being CSD'd, first few edits being reverted, etc.), while also making useful edits (rather than editing a sandbox, they're telling other users a bit about their background on their userpage). This doesn't usually run into problems with CSD:U5... They usually go on to make some edits under their account afterwards; it looks like they got logged out here and didn't realise it. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 08:03, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
Many thanks for the restoration of the page, and the responses here - I was the trainer involved in the session mentioned above. Useful to see this discussion, thanks! Lirazelf (talk) 16:28, 5 September 2015 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles's 2015 GA Cup - Round 3

WikiProject Good Articles's 2015 GA Cup - Round 3

Greetings, all! We hope that everyone had a nice summer.

Saturday saw the end of Round 2. Things went relatively smoothly this month. The top 2 from 4 pools, plus the top participant (the wildcard, or "9th place") of all remaining competitors, moved onto Round 3. We had one withdrawal early in Round 2, so he was replaced by the next-highest scorer from Round 1. Round 2's highest scorer was Pool D's Tomandjerry211, who earned an impressive 366 points; he also reviewed the most articles (19). Close behind was Zwerg Nase, also in Pool D, at 297 points and 16 articles. The wildcard slot went to Good888. Congrats to all!

Round 3 will have 9 competitors in 3 pools. The key to moving forward was reviewing articles with the longest nomination dates, as it has been in every round up to now. For example, 2 competitors only needed to review 2 articles each to win in their pools, and each article were either from the pink nomination box (20 points) or had languished in the queue for over 5 months (18 points). The GA Cup continues to be a success in many ways, even with fewer competitors this time. For some reason, the competitors in the 2015 GA Cup have reviewed fewer articles in Round 2, which has made the judges scratch their head in confusion. We've speculated many reasons for that: the summer months and vacations, our competitors are saving their strength for the final rounds, or they all live in the Pacific Northwest and the heavy wildfire smoke has affected their thinking. Whatever the reason, Round 2 competitors reviewed almost 100 articles, which is a significant impact in the task of reviewing articles for GA status. We've considered that the lower participation this competition is due to timing, so we intend to discuss the best time frame for future GA Cups.

For Round 3, participants have been placed randomly in 3 pools of 3 contestants each; the top editor in each pool will progress, as well as the top 2 of all remaining users. Round 3 will start on September 1 at 0:00:01 UTC and end on September 28 at 23:59:59 UTC. Information about Round 3 and the pools can be found here.

Good luck to the remaining contestants, and have fun!

Cheers from Figureskatingfan, 3family6 and Jaguar, and MrWooHoo.

To subscribe or unsubscribe to future GA Cup newsletter, please add or remove your name to our mailing list. If you are a participant still competing, you will be on the mailing list no matter what as this is the easiest way to communicate between all participants.

Some help

Hi MusikAnimal, I hope you had a good couple of days off. Could you please take a look at this thread? As you can see, I've made zero headway in resolving the problem. You're smart about these things (blatant buttering up), and I was hoping you might have suggestions as to what to do. The problem continues unabated, and it drives me crazy. There are many repetitive things I do at Wikipedia where body habits kick in. When it first started happening, I kept screwing up (usually my mouse hand). Now I force myself to wait before I click, but it slows me down, and I'm not the most patient guy in the world. Thanks very much for whatever you can do.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:25, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Autopatrolled

Hi. Thank you for your partial support. A look at this list of editors would tell non admin users like IJBall what they really need to know, but it still won't clue them up and it raises the question what they are wanting by taking the upper hand in such discussions. There's nothing much I don't know about our minor users rights - I introduced some of them. But again, one can't expect those non-admins who haunt the drama boards to do any real research or even launch a proper RfC. In the normal run of things I should be taking him to ANI and not vice versa, but I do believe in my entire career as an admin that I have never once brought a case to that page. It's not the way I work. But I do like protocol and clarity. Thanks again, and thanks BTW, for your excellent bot at PERM. It still hasn't got rid of all the wannabes who try to clerk the pages, but we'll get there in the end - if I don't retire fist due to the climate around here ;) --Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 08:08, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Well thank you Kudpung! I fully get where you were coming from, but I do think IJBall was trying to make a change in good-faith, and would have at least posted at WT:PERM had they known to. Frankly, I might have missed an RfC posted at WP:CD as well, it's only through WT:PERM would I have noticed. If you've gone this long without starting an AN/I thread, I certainly wouldn't start now :) And rest assured I don't think anyone is truly questioning your adminship. Also very happy to see you have taken a liking to my bot. My goal was basically to do all the stuff people come around and do, and there's still an outstanding feature request to have it say "this user has recently requested this permission [link] and that permission [link]", etc, to lend clarity of any hat-collecting, as the other relevant requests might have recently been archived. Cheers Kudpung, hope the weather improves for you! MusikAnimal talk 13:35, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Mass-message sender

Thanks for granting me the mass-message sender permission even though I didn't submit a 2nd request. MrWooHoo (talk) 22:26, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

This gives me an unrelated thought. MusikAnimal, should we mass-message all the EFMs asking them to subscribe to the mailing list if they're interested? I think that might pick up a bit more interest in it than we'd get otherwise. Sam Walton (talk) 22:34, 7 September 2015 (UTC)
@MrWooHoo: No problem, just needed to see that you knew how to properly construct the request. The need for the user right was already established :)
@Samwalton9: I *just* boldly expanded on the MMS guideline, but the bit about "only message those who are likely to be interested" was already there and very sensible. This is clearly one of those situations, so I'd so go for it. We could use this list to get the relevant users. I'm willing to bet that a large number of those admins have never touched an edit filter and just added it to their user groups because they could, but we have no right to assume that =P Meanwhile Category:Wikipedia edit filter managers is generated by the userbox, which obviously plenty of EFMs don't have in the userspace, and apparently a few non-EFMs decided they wanted to pretend they were one. I can help construct the mailing if you'd like. MusikAnimal talk 22:56, 7 September 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list

Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Sam Walton (talk) and MusikAnimal talk 18:22, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

User:MusikAnimal/MoreMenu.js

Hi Musik, is there any chance I could con you into adding WP:SPI to the list of drop-down links in your drop-down link utility? The ones I see so far are WP:AIV, WP:ANEW, WP:PERM, WP:RFPP, and WP:UAA. SPI seems intuitive to include as does the unblock requests page. Just a thought. If you don't wanna, I won't hold it against ya. :) Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:04, 10 September 2015 (UTC)

@Cyphoidbomb: Hmm did you mean User:MusikAnimal/responseHelper instead of MoreMenu? MoreMenu does have a link to SPIs, e.g. browse to User:Orangemoody and note there's an SPI link under User > RfXs. For responseHelper, the links you see in the sidebar are noticeboards for which the script supports. SPI is not one of them, but you know what, it should be... as there's a bunch of indicator templates admins/clerks use. I'll look into it! MusikAnimal talk 07:00, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
Cyphoidbomb, if you're using the same script I am, you can add your own links. Example. --NeilN talk to me 00:50, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Wrong version

Hi MusikAnimal. I agree that Glyphosate needed protecting, but the current version is substantially different to the previous version and there was seemingly no consensus on the talk page that the sandbox was ready to be moved to mainspace e.g. [31]. Inclusion of a review by Seralini after the Séralini affair is a major facepalm. Would you consider restoring the previous version? (I am slightly involved in this area, but thankfully not sufficiently to be at ArbCom). Thanks SmartSE (talk) 22:48, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

I don't see any major concerns with the current version, such as BLP violations, so per WP:PREFER and also that I don't want to invest the time into it, I'm going to leave it as-is. The experts are available to review it if you make a protected edit request. As I'm sure you know, us admins always protect the the wrong version :) Sorry I could not be of more help MusikAnimal talk 22:55, 15 September 2015 (UTC)

Protecting the Pálinka Article

Hi MusikAnimal, you have recently semi-protected the Pálinka article based on persistent disruptive editing (thanks for that, btw). However, now that the protection is gone, the same IPs continue their disruptive editing (still without replying to Talk page comments). Protecting the article again may be an option, or what do you suggest we should do? KœrteFa {ταλκ} 21:15, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

I'd like to defer this to another admin this time around if that's alright. Seems like a legitimate content dispute, but obviously there issues with the IP editor not engaging in discussion. Historically they are editing from multiple IPs so protection is probably still the best route (as opposed to blocking). Please request at WP:RFPP, thanks! MusikAnimal talk 21:22, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
OK, no worries, and thanks for your prompt response. KœrteFa {ταλκ} 21:26, 20 September 2015 (UTC)

Email panic time

Imagine my confusion when I get an email that says "Your user rights have changed on Wikipedia / Your user rights were changed by MusikAnimal. You are now a member of this group: Administrators."

It's like "What? I didn't know I was an administrator!"

Later I read the "earlier" message that said you'd made me an administrator and I figured out that this was about the test: Wikipedia, not en:. Whew.

In any case, I'm glad you were able to get the job done without me, I've been kind of busy off-wiki the last few days. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:30, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

Haha yes that must have been an alarming thing to see! Anyway I read into it and I guess testwiki is really reserved for development-related purposes. For this reason I removed the admin bit, so sorry about that. There are numerous wikis available to test out sysop tools, see testwiki:Wikipedia:Requests/Tools. You might also get away with adminship at test2 wiki but I am not a bureaucrat there. Best MusikAnimal talk 18:35, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

WWE Network information

Hello MusikAnimal, I edited the WWE Network page to add information about the newest WWE Network programming featuring WWE's newest tattoo show on the WWE Network which is WWE Superstar Ink, and I also added the official description of WWE's newest show, "The WWE List".

Can you please keep my edit up as I am not trolling and they are all legitimate? Thank you.

Vxmoore (talk) 19:56, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

@Vxmoore: Sorry, I see now that you were editing in good-faith. The descriptions you used are what made it appear unconstructive, and in fact they still are. We shouldn't use the promotional-sounding official taglines of the programmes, instead use a brief description that you yourself wrote to accurately and neutrally describe the show. Hopefully that makes sense, and let me know if you need help! MusikAnimal talk 20:02, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Hi, MusikAnimal! I see you protected the Days of Our Lives cast members page and was wondering if you could do the same with the "previous" cast page. The same 142-IP editor has been making the same nonsense edits on that page as well. Thanks in advance if you can help with this.Cebr1979 (talk) 04:10, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

It doesn't have a question mark

When I tried to delete Timothy "Mckenna" Sivore, it jumped to Timothy. As you can see from the history, I moved the article to my userspace without leaving a redirect and then deleted the moved article from my userspace. So, master, what's the reason for this gem? Aren't you glad you're a guru?--Bbb23 (talk) 04:50, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

@Bbb23: Looks like I fixed it the last time we had an issue (16 September) but forgot to copy it over to MediaWiki:Gadget-dropdown-menus-vector.js. Whoops! Should be good now :) MusikAnimal talk 05:09, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
The fix you linked to doesn't help because I can't follow it. What exactly about this page prevented me from deleting it normally (I was able to delete other pages at the same time as I couldn't delete this one)?--Bbb23 (talk) 12:19, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
That link was just to prove to you that I had fixed it the last time around (as evidenced by the timestamp) :) The double quotes are what was causing the link to break. The JavaScript uses a string to generate the link, and the URL is wrapped in double quotes, so if there are double quotes in the page name the string is improperly truncated. Easily fixed by escaping the string. I'm going to create a bunch of test pages with all sorts of weird characters to make sure we're covering all scenarios, so that stuff like this this won't happen again. But mind you this is all a result of a bug in the MediaWiki JavaScript API! Not a bug in the script written by yours truly! :) MusikAnimal talk 15:45, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
Ha! I even understand all that you said. So, the truncation left it with Timothy, the page it jumped to. But - there's always a but with Mr. Quibbler - why did it jump rather than just do nothing (as it did with the ?), or bring up the delete template for Timothy?--Bbb23 (talk) 17:00, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
The parameters that tell the software what you're trying to do follow the ? character, as with en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Example&action=delete. Here since the double-quotes cut it off the action=delete part was never applied, instead we ended up with en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Timothy which is the same as action=view (view the page). It's been so long I don't remember what the issue was the ? that you originally encountered. Either way that makes at least two bugs that you have identified! Keep it coming :) MusikAnimal talk 01:35, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
Your wish is my command. Mehranhamza(moonhamza) gets this error message: The requested page title contains invalid characters: "%28". --Bbb23 (talk) 15:43, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Looks like lots of special characters don't work now. I'm gonna stop patrolling CSD until you fix it - too much bother. See Cho'zyn boy.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:46, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

@Bbb23: Coincidentally I am working on kinking out these bugs right now! You'll see I just deleted it, so I have a fix :) Let me fix everything (all freakin' links) once and for all then I will update the gadget. Take a look at User:MusikAnimal/Test pages. I think that covers most everything, if you think of some other kind of title that might break the script let me know or create it as a subpage of User:MusikAnimal/Test pages. Sorry for all the bugs!!! MusikAnimal talk 15:48, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

@Bbb23: Okee doke, I've update the delete/protect/edit intro links, they worked on all of my test pages. Give it a try at Cho'zyn boy. I'm going to continue to make sure the external tools links work, as some of them require things to be encoded differently. Anyway you should be good to continue with your patrolling! Sorry again for the trouble! MusikAnimal talk 15:52, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Works now on Cho'zyn boy, thanks! There's an upside to the bugs. I have an excuse for not working as hard.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:02, 24 September 2015 (UTC)

Hello from YPT50

Hello - I was hoping you could tell me the status of Young People's Theatre, which I have been blocked from editing. I understand where I went wrong in copying certain text from www.youngpeoplestheatre.ca (of which I am an employee). Is there a way for me to continue editing the page now? - Clare, Sept. 23, 2015 YPT50 (talk) 17:22, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

@YPT50: Hello Clare. First and foremost: It is a major concern that you are editing on behalf of your organization. The fact that you are an employee of the subject makes you subject to a conflict of interest. Generally it's best that you do not write about subjects you are affiliated with, as it can be difficult to maintain a neutral tone and/or unbiased approach to your writing. You should disclose your affiliation anywhere a discussion takes place about the Young People's Theater.
As for the copyright concerns, this involves legal matters so we are very strict about it. You cannot copy and paste content from other sources unless it is released under a license compatible with Wikipedia. You could try to get the text properly relicensed, but sometimes it's easier to just put it in your own words. More on that at WP:DONATETEXT.
Again I strongly discourage you from editing about Young People's Theater. If you do, please review Wikipedia:Conflict of interest to understand why this is a problem, specifically WP:DISCLOSURE so that it is clear to you that you should disclose your connection. Thanks and sorry my assistance could not be more favourable MusikAnimal talk 20:17, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
@MusikAnimal: Thanks for your help - I have familiarized myself with all the guidelines and rules now. My first concern is to have the Young People's Theatre page unblocked for regular readers to view. What do I have to do in order for this to happen?YPT50 (talk) 16:34, 25 September 2015 (UTC)
