@Sennecaster: I’m not sure if you’re able to compare the current text in Islam in the Arctic with the text that was in the merged article, but if you can, I think you can assure yourself that no text was copied. Although the AfD outcome was “merge” I ended up writing the text for Islam in the Arctic from scratch. Mccapra (talk) 06:47, 26 May 2021 (UTC)
Ah, okay! Thanks for clarifying. Consider this warning null then; I will be striking it shortly. I thought you directly merged across multiple diffs since we were inspecting another editor. My bad for not checking, whoops! Sennecaster (What now?) 10:41, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

You reviewed this article ten seconds after I uploaded it. Is this some sort of Wikipedia world record? Keep up the great work. Roundtheworld (talk) 08:48, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

@Roundtheworld: lol maybe. Sometimes if you’re top of the queue you just get lucky. Also the subject was a very clear notability pass unlike some of the weird and wonderful things that appear in the new pages feed. As it happens we’re recruiting new page reviewers at the moment and having a foreign language us always an advantage. Is page reviewing something you might be interested in? Mccapra (talk) 11:51, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Quick question

Hola. You moved Battle of Kangra to draft yesterday, the user has just banged it back into mainspace. It's clearly not up to par - what's the next move here? Surely not AfD? Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 14:11, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi - if a BEFORE search shows likely lack of notability, then AfD. If notability seens likely, tag it and move on. Mccapra (talk) 16:11, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Remove Tag

How can this tag be applied despite the source of so many news articles?... Now I have added ten links to it again... Can you remove that tag now? PA12194 (talk) 06:41, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Which article are you talking about please? Mccapra (talk) 08:08, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

I'm talking about this Wikipedia page 👇

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Umashankar_Singh_(Mojo) PA12194 (talk) 08:47, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

ok my main issue was that a lot of the references were links to his own work and none appear to provide in depth coverage. That’s what reviewers are looking for. At the moment notability depends entirely on his award win, which is a bit weak. Mccapra (talk) 09:03, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

I will not say the source of the award at all... I am talking to you about the news link covered by the people of the National Newspaper... ,👇

Yes that isn’t sustained in depth coverage. Mccapra (talk) 09:52, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

When this journalist covers the news, it is the kind of news that is mentioned as author in the news👉https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/bihar-assembly-elections-2020-chirag-pawan-to-ndtv-nitish-kumar-doesnt-listen-to-colleagues-2305683 PA12194 (talk) 09:55, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

What is the rule in Wikipedia? When a journalist makes news of another journalist in another news channel, its source does not run on Wikipedia? PA12194 (talk) 09:58, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

I’m not sure what you mean. That item is headed “reported by Umashankar Singh”. Mccapra (talk) 10:00, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Above are two of the national newspapers in India that I have given you... In it, those people have made the news of this journalist... And it's weird that it doesn't run on Wikipedia as a source, sir... PA12194 (talk) 10:03, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia needs reporting in depth about him and his work to support a biography article. All journalists have bylines and sometimes their work is syndicated. That doesn’t make them notable. Mccapra (talk) 10:05, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

If you want examples of articles on journalists that do demonstrate notability, have a look at Sudhir Chaudhary (journalist) or Madhu Trehan. Mccapra (talk) 10:08, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Send me a link to any one of the journalists in India and an example honey to show me the link that his name is fully mentioned in the news... I will try to find a news article and add it to Wikipedia based on the example you show. PA12194 (talk) 10:12, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Okay sir 👍 PA12194 (talk) 10:25, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

Review

When recently reviewing a redirect to Marius Cocioran, you have reset to a wrong version of his second name: his second name is: Marius Iulian Cocioran (correct) not Ilian. Sorry for my mistake. In some other Wiki, blanking results into cancelling the page. perhaps not in WPen:. Thanks.--Arorae (talk) 12:37, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Dear Mccapra. I hope you're good. There's an IP who has been pushing their POV on Mufti Abdul Razzaq, an article I created utilising a lot of my time. You're well aware that this is my major field of work. I've started a discussion at the talk page on whether we should use Urdu honorific or the English one on the article infobox, the Mufti-e-Azam in this case. Please enlighten the discussion with your experienced opinion. Thanks. ─ The Aafī on Mobile (talk) 07:17, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi! Sorry for bothering you. I want to discuss more about drafting of Bank Kaltimtara article. I am well aware that there's no inherit notability of Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies). I am also aware that the article is currently very stubby and needs a lot of improvement. I just recently add little bit citations on it. And i am also aware that most of companies or organization article need to explain more than just simply existing.

Indonesian regional development banks are extension of government, controlled, and managed by provincial government. Based on Law Number 13 of 1962, which is citated in article explaining the type of bank, regional development banks are "not allowed to operate until it gets a business license from the Minister of Central Bank Affairs (Now Ministry of Finance). Before granting a business license, the Minister of Central Bank Affairs shall hear the opinion of the Minister of General Administration and Regional Autonomy (Now Ministry of Home Affairs)". On Article Number 3 of the law, it is stated that the company is governed by law, and also stated in Article Number 11 is appointed by provincial government.

Just by it's own status as completely under provincial government, managed under national & regional laws, and operated differently compared to conventional banks, i do think all of these matter give all of 26 banks of each Indonesian provinces notability.

I accept that the article is now in draft, and i'll try to improve it. But i just want to make it clear that all regional development banks in Indonesia deserve their own article and should be treated as extension of government or a government branch, unlike most of companies. I am planning to create article of other regional development banks in the future, so I hope this clear out the dispute on whether these banks have notability on it's own or not. If you disagree with some of my point, please let me know. I'd like to discuss the matter, and I apologize if I sounds rude or bothering you.

Thanks

Nyanardsan (talk) 05:27, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

  • @Nyanardsan: hi thanks for your message. I understand what you’re saying. The issue is that the references in the article have to demonstrate that the bank passes WP:NCORP. At the moment the references don’t meet this standard. Hopefully there will be sufficient sources available to meet this standard. All the best Mccapra (talk) 05:56, 6 June 2021 (UTC)

(Mccapra moved page Abia Town, Enugu State to Draft:Abia Town, Enugu State

Hi, you recently moved page Abia Town, Enugu State from the main space to Draft: Abia Town, Enugu State stating not ready for main space. Please what specifically do you need us add to the page? Thanks

  • @Muna3c: Hi thanks for your message. The basic requirement for an article is that the subject must be discussed in-depth in multiple reliable independent sources.
At the moment, the draft article is sourced to 1. and 3. A map (not a valid source) while 2. 4. and 5. do not mention Abia at all. At the same time there are entire sections in the draft with no references at all.
You need to find sources (newspapers, books or magazines) that talk about Abia specifically, and not just a quick mention of the name. If you can build an article around what those sources say, it can move back from draft.
Also when you leave a message on a talk page please remember to sign it by ending your message with four tildes (~ x 4). It’s much easier for someone to reply to you that way. All the best Mccapra (talk) 20:42, 7 June 2021 (UTC)
  • Hi Mccapra. Thanks for responding to my inquiry. The page is basically about a town that is in existence not an academic or scientific article. I took time to go through some other Wikipedia towns, cities, and places, some have little or no reference or multiple in-depth sources.

The Abia page simply talked about the town and few things common with similar geographic locations and culture. It did not delve into issues that require extensive references. I know you are trying to improve on the reliability of Wikipedia pages but in this case you holding us to a higher/extra standard than others. There are many places having Wiki page that the references did not specifically dwelled on the place.

The sections you stated that bear references (2,4,5) do not contain materials that warrant specifically mentioning Abia. They talked about general customs/issues common to the people from the same area. The sections with no references are just what they are- mere statement of facts that did not go further.

Please if you can move it back to the main page. ThanksMuna3c (talk) 16:48, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

@Muna3c: it is wrong to say this article is being held to a higher standard than others, it isn’t. Hundreds of articles a day are reviewed against the same standards. You have a draft article about Abia with literally no sources about Abia. That’s just not acceptable. So the choice is that you can work on it in draft, adding sources that are actually about Abia. Otherwise if you want me to move it out if draft and into mainspace I will, but I will also immediately nominate it for deletion. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 18:34, 8 June 2021 (UTC)

@Mccapra, no problem, I will research for relevant references about Abia and work on it in the draft. ThanksMuna3c (talk) 11:02, 9 June 2021 (UTC)

Marie Armand Patrice de Mac Mahon

Dear Mccapra,

I am uncertain as to why you added a link saying that the page Marie Armand Patrice de Mac Mahon was an orphan page ad it has no links to it. I wish to make the page as good as possible, so it would be wonderful if you could explain this, so I can make improvements. I am asking because the page clearly has many links, I wish to know if there are any others I should be adding?

Yours sincerely,

Angloscottish Angloscottish (talk) 23:03, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

@Angloscottish: thanks for your note. “Orphan” means the article has no inbound links to it from other articles, not that it doesn’t have outbound links to other articles. You can see if an article us an orphan by clicking “what links here” on the left hand menu. I added the orphan tag because when I looked yesterday at “what links here” I didn’t see links from any mainspace articles. Now I see it has links from one. I don’t know if that link was added after I added the orphan tag or if I somehow managed not to see it. Anyway the article is certainly not an orphan now so I’ll remove the tag. Mccapra (talk) 05:25, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

Thank you very much, that makes a lot of sense, thank you for the explanation. Angloscottish (talk) 14:29, 15 June 2021 (UTC)

Manichaean template and articles

I saw filling the template as a critical necessity. I didn't create it, I just found the template in roughly its current form but with almost entirely red links. My approach has been that because the template is years old and has been approved already, it means that the articles linked (or redlinked) are already notable and should exist and their lack of current existence placed a substantial burden on Wikipedia's coverage of the topic. Shad Ohrmazd and Mihr in particular were figures I felt needed articles urgently because they have been in the template for years, and without the articles it's unclear who these names even refer to. My hope was that by creating these articles that I created they would offer a new direction for Wikipedia to improve.

I have made the contributions I see as easiest on the topic already. I'd suggest merging Denawars with See of Babylon into an article about the Manichaean East-West schism, with Shad Ohrmazd redirecting to the Denawars section as neither seem notable enough on their own. The Chinese template has such an article as a red link in it, but as the template didn't include such an article in English I interpreted the separate articles as being the Wikipedia agenda. Do you consider it to be appropriate to just make this major change against the template without further discussion? Was I making a mistake in terms of how highly I valued the template?

I have since merged Manichaeism in China into Chinese Manichaeism and redirected Mihr to Chinese Manichaeism#Tang dynastySiliconProphet (talk) 22:58, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

@SiliconProphet: hi sorry for the delay in replying. That all makes sense and I agree with your decisions on merges and redirects. The template is a useful reference point but if the sources can’t be found just yet to fill the missing links they will have to remain red for a while longer. I see the template itself is fairly new and was created by user:Uriel1022 so perhaps they can give you an idea of why they chose particular topics to add to it. Peter Engbrecht

Hello,

Thanks for your comments on the Peter Engbrecht article. I am disappointed that you do not find this article appropriate at this time though I am happy to address these problems as raised. Can you provide further commentary as to why the dates do not make sense and as to why links to articles from the Government of Canada, the Winnipeg Free Press, and indirectly the Toronto Star do not qualify as reliable independent sources? The latter two both serve as newspapers of record for their areas in Canada and I would be happy to fix or clarify the dates. Krazytea(talk) 22:05, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your message. Have a look at the dates in your lead section and your infobox. Mccapra (talk) 22:27, 24 June 2021 (UTC)

After Journey

Hi! Did you check the sources? Just because these are in Chinese, doesn't mean the subject is not notable. Use google translate, you will get the gist of those articles. Or you can check the Baike Baidu (the Chinese equivalent of Wikipedia) article on him https://baike.baidu.com/item/%E8%89%BE%E7%A6%8F%E6%9D%B0%E5%B0%BC to see there is a lot we could say about this person. Would my Chinese be on a higher level, I would be able to write more. But that would take a hundred hours using a dictionary. Hence a stub. But notability does not depend on length of article. It has sufficient sources that discuss the person in depth. Xia talk to me 10:31, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

@Xia: hi thanks for your message. Yes I did look at the sources, which is why I tagged the article. Of the seven sources provided, 1. certainly isn't in depth coverage 2. isn't in depth coverage either, its just a track listing 3. may be ok but I don't know about the reliability or editorial independence of the site 4. probably ok 5. is a dead link 6. Looks like a promotional piece from the company that produced the show he starred in, so doubtful independence 7. Launch PR. So overall, from the sources presented, it is not clear to me that the subject is notable. If there are stronger sources that will help take the article through new page patrol. All the best Mccapra (talk) 12:57, 2 July 2021 (UTC)

I made this page longer, but I heard about you delete my page because of speedy deletion. It's unclear to do that. I was the only one who made it originally, and please restore the page. Fortunewriter (talk) 23:01, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

@Fortunewriter: hi thanks for your message. The message I posted on your talk page told you that the community of editors has already taken time here to determine that this subject isn’t notable, and had previously determined that the article should be deleted. Our policies don’t allow recreation of an article on a topic that has already been determined to be non notable.
I’m not an administrator so I didn’t delete the article and can’t restore it either. If you believe that your version of the article was substantially different from the old deleted version, or that new sources exist that were not available during the deletion discussion, you can ask the deleting admin (user:Materialscientist) to restore it for you. All the best Mccapra (talk) 23:14, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

So I can tell the deletion admin to restore it, right? Fortunewriter (talk) 23:17, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

You can ask them, but unless you can give them a good reason why it should be restored, they are not likely to agree. Mccapra (talk) 07:37, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Rhodesia problem

Sorry to disturb you. I’m a historian and not too experienced with Wikipedia. Added quite important facts about the Rhodesian people after 1980 and about the Government of Rhodesia, neutral, academic, not touching Zimbabwe in any way. However, it’s all under heavy fire as if the bush wars would have never ended… The users just clicked on the most convenient (and at the same time least important) links (now deleted because not essential) and started a campaign to return to the version of history which is political, not scientific. The deletion discussion was even started with the claim that my contribution was based in odd links, ignoring the dozens of academic sources. I even deleted the links which someone found not reliable, but the deletion discussion is still there, based on totally wrong assumptions. I am truly shocked. Since you seem to be quite a Wikipedia and history expert, it would be great if you could have a look, and maybe bring this to a quick solution. Either the stop of the deletion discussion because it’s based on just two links which have already gone, or a quick deletion to save all of us precious time. Thanks a lot. University Professor for History (talk) 14:19, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

hi I did think the Government of Rhodesia article looked pretty weird when I read it, though I didn’t tag it. I see all the independent references are offline so there isn’t really anything I can do to verify them. Articles on various microstates and other claimed state entities that exist only in peoples’ heads are usually deleted on Wikipedia. Since a search for “Janette Rowland Rhodesia’ brings up exactly nothing online and the government’s Twitter account only has eight followers, it’s not screaming “clearly notable” to me. Deletion discussions usually run for one week, though they can be extended. Mccapra (talk) 14:45, 4 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi Mccapra, I know this article still needs work, but it seems to me notability should be OK now (especially with NYT obit). Can that tag be removed? Thanks

  • @Sheijiashaojun: hi thanks for your message. I’ve looked again at the sources you’ve provided and I have some advice. I think you should remove source 1 entirely. If you can find another version of the Biographical Dictionary it’s fine to use but the site you have linked to has just scraped the text and is using it to serve up pornographic stories, so nobody is going to think it is a reliable source. Anyway, it doesn’t add anything that isn’t in the other sources.
Source ten is a link that takes me to a site that doesn’t show you anything unless you log in. Whatever it is you’re citing, you need to write out the details of the name etc. in full along with the link or nobody will know what you’re trying to link to.
I agree that the NYT obituary and the information it gives us significantly improves the notability of the subject.
A couple of other things. When adding to a talk page please add you comments at the bottom rather than the top. Also please remember to sign your comments with four tildes (four of these ~). All the best Mccapra (talk) 06:57, 11 July 2021 (UTC)

I have received your message of June 26, 2021 with the position that the article ’Vasyl Shevchenko (artist)’ in Wikipedia is placed on the deleting list because of lack of information links in English. However, the problem is typical for the majority of art professionals who lived in the times of the Soviet Union and whose activity did not correspond with the rules of so-called socialistic standards. Nevertheless, how strong and professional you are and how many people like your arts, the mass media (both domestic and foreign ones) are closed for any discussions about your potential masterpieces or your career if you have got the status of ’forbidden artist’. This is our case. And this fact is the explanation why at the beginning of the XXI Century only a few links and references about the activity of Vasyl Shevchenko as an artist are publicly available and unfortunately only in Ukrainian and Russian. So, I have started only a couple of years ago and do all my best to promote the heritage of Vasyl Shevchenko to the broad public as well as to the professional experts society. Namely, I have written the article ’Vasyl Shevchenko (artist)’ for the promotional exhibition of Vasyl Shevchenko pictures scheduled in autumn, 2020 in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 problem destroyed the last year's plan.

But the business is in progress. I believe the most important point to answer the question of whether it is advisable or not to find the article ’Vasyl Shevchenko (artist)’ in the public domain is to take into account the fact that physically the painting works of Vasyl Shevchenko are available for public and it is possible to look at them. Everything else is a matter of taste: whether you like paintings or dislike them. And was it worth the audience to waste their time contemplating? As can be judged from the references to the above-mentioned article (unfortunately in Ukrainian again), the professionals answer the last question positively.

After all, the expression ’Neither glory nor wealth’ is rooted in the Homilies of Jonah Chrysostom XXIV. 3 and 4. And in the history of mankind, there were many artists, even the majority, who lived their lives in the same way. I believe, no matter how events develop in the future, Vasyl Shevchenko was not the first and will not be the last in this raw.

Sincerely and with good wishes, Mykola Shevchenko.

Regarding deletion request.

  • Hi the article you have created does not give any indication of the subject's notability and does not provide any sources. If you can find multiple reliable independent sources that offer in-depth coverage of the subject, the article will not be deleted. If you don't have those sources to hand I suggest you start again in you user sandbox and build an article which you can move to encyclopedia mainspace when it is properly sourced. Hello

@Mccapra: I request you to permanently register Reza Bahram's page. He also has an Instagram blue tick and I ask you to remove the quick delete tag. Help me in this regard Thanks

  • @Mohsen2023: hi thanks for your message. I’m afraid having a blue tick on Instagram doesn’t help here. The community has already looked for sources to support an article on this singer and decided that there aren’t enough to make him notable for Wikipedia purposes. I’m afraid you’re trying to create something we’ve already decided to delete. I suggest you find a different and more notable subject to write about. Defunct Malaysian electoral constituency articles

Just a heads up. Onel5969 moved all these to draft space for lack of sourcing [1]. The creator resubmitted them; I had rejected them as still lacking sourcing [2]. The article creator has blanked their talk page and moved the articles back to main space. They lack sourcing and the single source in the article does not match the information claimed. Regards, --Goldsztajn (talk) 11:23, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Seems the editor has placed redirects in draft space and recreated the articles in main space [3]. --Goldsztajn (talk) 11:26, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Hi. If you check the single source, you'll notice it does not mention the subject of the article, so therefore fails to pass WP:VERIFY. Onel5969 TT me 12:21, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Arash Mardani

Dear Mccapra, I recreated Arash Mardani’s article based by the news and references by Wikipedia policy. This article is notable but unfortunately you deleted it. I also wrote the article by myself. Please help to recreate it. Sincerely MMA Kid (talk) 12:16, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

hi I tagged it because it was a recreation of an article that editors recently agreed should be deleted. The admin who deleted it was user:Missvain - if you leave her a message she may be able to help you. I’m not an admin so I can’t. All the best Mccapra (talk) 12:30, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Dear Mccapra, I already asked user:Missvain on her talk page a few days ago but she doesn't answer. I really don't know why this article deleted first time and this time. Arash Mardani is notable in Iran. Just need search him name by Google. He 3 times got warrior belt (The highest sports sign in Iran) from Iran leader and president. Sincerely MMA Kid (talk) 17:33, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Well the community voted to delete it here just six weeks ago so you’re going to have a hard time bringing it back. I’d suggest writing the article in draftspace and taking it through the Articles for Creation process. But the sources will have to be really solid. Mccapra (talk) 18:26, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Precisely what Mccapra wrote. You are welcome to go through the Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion process, but, I suggest doing what Mccapra suggested. Sorry I haven't responded, as the top of my talk page says I have a lot of personal stuff going on right now and have been editing Wikipedia minimally. Nothing that happens on Wikipedia is more important than my health . But, sorry I left you hanging. Missvain (talk) 19:42, 22 July 2021 (UTC)

Dear Missvain and Mccapra, According to your tips, the article was transferred to the draft space section. Regards MMA Kid (talk) 04:19, 23 July 2021 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Publication History of The Whole Earth Catalog

Congratulations. You are participating in the current precipitous decline of Wikipedia by discouraging SMEs from contributing. I probably won't be wasting any more of my time contributing articles, and I certainly won't be arguing with self-appointed "editors" who haven't a clue what they're doing. Have fun riding the jet into the ground. Rcarlberg (talk) 19:47, 24 July 2021 (UTC)

@Rcarlberg: Thank you for your message. “SME”s are not supposed to be contributing to Wikipedia so I’m not really sure what to make of that remark. I haven’t proposed the article for deletion, I’ve moved it to draftspace where it needs to stay until it has some sources. Wikipedia doesn't host unsourced articles. If you don’t want to add sources another editor with an interest in the topic may do so. Mccapra (talk) 19:53, 24 July 2021 (UTC)
@Mccapra: Excuse me? "Subject matter experts are not supposed to be contributing to Wikipedia"? What planet did THAT come from? Rcarlberg (talk) 00:13, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
@Rcarlberg: Ah ok I thought SMEs meant small and medium sized enterprises. Yes subject matter experts are very much wanted on Wikipedia but are required to source their articles properly the same as everyone else. Mccapra (talk) 00:44, 28 July 2021 (UTC)
@Mccapra: Just another sign that you're not qualified to be doing this editing -- "SME" is a common industry term, and kinda central to Wikipedia's mission. Discographies and bibliographies cannot be "referenced," because if this information was centralized anywhere, Wikipedia wouldn't need to post it. Rcarlberg (talk) 04:32, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

I saw that you moved this article to "Draft:Liam Kelley (historian)" but I managed to find these sources:

It's such a shame that such an influential historian doesn't have an article here. This person is actually one of the top names among contemporary Vietnamese historians and a lot more about him is published offline. While I agree that a biography of a living person shouldn't be a stub, adding "notability issues" or "reference" issues would have been better than moving it to a space where nobody can see it. --Donald Trung (talk) 20:02, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

Panarama article moved to draftspace

Hello Mccapra, with great surprise and also disappointment I learned that my article does not comply with Wikipedia's guidelines. This surprises me even more, as my article is the exact translation of my German-language article about Panarama: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panarama

In the German Wikipedia there were no problems with the publication. You have to know that I am a friend of the musician Hermann Weindorf and that my information is first hand. I can't contribute more than the two sources given in the article. So where is the problem? Remembergeorge (talk) 07:33, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

@Remembergeorge: hi thanks for your message. My reply will be quite long I’m afraid. In general it’s fine to translate from one wiki to another, but each wiki has its own rules and policies so the fact that a topic is accepted on one does not mean it will be accepted on another. German Wikipedia does things differently - I’m not familiar with how everything works there, but there are two core policies on en.wiki. The first is Notability, meaning that the topic of the article must be covered in depth in multiple independent, reliable sources. The second is Verifiability, which means that every fact or statement included in an article must be traceable to a valid source. We often have problems with articles translated from de.wiki because they do not appear to meet one or other of these requirements.
In the case of this article, you say that it is not possible to find other sources beyond the two you provided. In fact neither of the sources even mentions Panarama so if you’re certain there are no other sources, the topic definitely is not notable and can’t be included in en.wiki. For verifiability, again, we need sources for every statement in the article. You say that you have written it based on personal knowledge, but I’m afraid that’s just not acceptable on en.wiki because it’s not verifiable.
If you can find any other sources I’d be happy to help you work in this, make it comply with our policies and bring it back from draft. All the best Mccapra (talk) 08:27, 27 August 2021 (UTC)

Hello. I get stuck in deletion nomination process of Ali Liakat. Could you pls guide me how to deal with the process? I'm just a new reviewer. TIA. Htanaungg (talk) 08:58, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

@Htanaungg: I just looked at it and you’ve done it fine. The tag is on the article, and the deletion discussion page has been created and transcluded into the daily log. The only thing you didn’t do was add it to any deletion discussions listings, but don’t worry, an AfD regular will fix that (I’m not sure how to add them to a deletion page that’s already set up). Are you using the Twinkle tool to manage your AfDs? If not, I recommend it. Mccapra (talk) 11:15, 29 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi. I would like to ask how to removed the redirect of "Lian Huaiwei" to page "Youth with Youth Season 3". I found that the page is highlighted that it is not fulfil notability requirement. Based on the latest information, Lian Huaiwei is officially debut as one of the Chinese group "IXFORM" on July 2021. And before that he is one of the contestants for another competition show, and he is operating his entertainment studio. Thus I think that it is not suitable to redirect. Please advise. Thanks. Roxlerz (talk) 18:07, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

@Roxlerz: hi thanks for your message. To remove the redirect, just go to the “edit” screen, remove the existing text, and add the text and sources for the new article you want to write. That’s all you have to do. By the way, if you are contacting another editor on their talk page, the best thing to do is to create a new section at the bottom of the page and post your questions there, instead of writing in the middle of the page. Let me know if you need any help. Thanks Mccapra (talk) 20:43, 2 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Mccapra,

You were right to tag this article as a copyright violation. However, you notified the page creator, who just created this page as a redirect, not the editor who introduced all of the inappropriate content. It's an easy mistake to make if you, like me, rely on Twinkle to post notifications. But I moved your warning from the page creator's (who is inactive) talk page to that of the editor who introduced copyright violating content. Probably a good idea to check the page history when you are checking pages for blatant violations like this. Thank you for your work! Liz Read! Talk! 02:07, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello Mccapra,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:32, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Pan-american games medalist removed

Hey, doesn't make any sense remove this pages as it is referenced in the wiki articles of each ediction of the games (it is possible to easily check that the information is the same). Orphans in "See also" sections

Please visit Wikipedia:Orphan and Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Layout#"See_also"_section to read about appropriate use of the "See also" section. Such linking has also been addressed at Wikipedia_talk:Orphan#"See_also"_spam. De-orphaning articles is an important task, but it shouldn't lead to link spamming of more prominent articles. And I don't think it is a good idea to put those links in other sections, like "features" (e.g. Graham_Land#Features), if the only rationale is to deorphan the articles. The section does not become representative - it should use relevance and prominence as selection criteria. - 4ing (talk) 07:48, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

@4ing: hi thanks for your note. The MOS says “ The links in the "See also" section should be relevant, should reflect the links that would be present in a comprehensive article on the topic” and I think the items I’m adding fall within that. I can see that other editors have begun consolidating some of these stub articles into sections of larger articles, which makes sense, but is a longer term project. There are literally about a dozen Antarctica geostubs left, and while I see your point, I think it makes less sense to leave them marooned on their own so at anyone looking for features in Enderby Land or Queen Maud Land will have no easy way of finding them. In adding them to the See also section I’m not saying I think that should be their final place. Editors on the relevant WikiProject may be better placed to integrate them into the main article, if appropriate. Mccapra (talk) 08:22, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

@AlexaRiveralis: hi I’m not an admin. The page won’t show on Google search until it has been passed by a new page reviewer - until then Google doesn’t index it. On the connection with Yadu, I’ve no idea. Mccapra (talk) 18:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Dear @Mccapra I search in Google Yaduvanshi, Yaduvanshi will not come, but I will search 'yaduvanshi or yaduvanshi or yadukula' then it will come and then click on it Yaduvanshi title, then Yadu (legendary king) page open, why? Why Yaduvanshi page not open? AlexaRiveralis (talk) 19:21, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Wikipedia does not release articles for indexing on Google until they have been reviewed. Why Google shows results for Yadu when you search for Yaduvanshi is a question for Google rather than for Wikipedia. Mccapra (talk) 19:29, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Fraz Wahlah

Hi Mccapra, You have added a speedy deletion tag to the article of Fraz Wahlah citing WP:G4. I created this article myself from scratch, even if another article existed and been deleted in 2018, I have not seen that, so it can't be identical to mine. The photo of Fraz Wahlah is used and his name is mentioned as the main illustration material on multiple Wikipedia pages regarding Pakistani history and MRD: Pakistan Peoples Party, Islamization in Pakistan, Human rights abuses in Pakistan under Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq, and Movement for the Restoration of Democracy. In fact, the Wikipedia page of MRD mentions only three names under its main photo: Zia-ul-Haq, Fraz Wahlah and his father. Those references are there for ages, and they show the relevance of Wahlah.

The BBC also considered Fraz Wahlah as notable and covered his story multiple times, both in written version or on the radio, as it's cited on the page, alongside with further established, reliable media outlets that published his photo and named him as a symbolical person of the MRD.

Regarding his Technology career, the Pakistan Software House Association and Ms Jehan Ara are both clearly notable and have their own Wikipedia pages, and their reference to Fraz Wahlah show the importance of Wahlah's success on APICTA for the tech sector of Pakistan.

I haven't seen the original, deleted article, it may not have been referenced well, but in my opinion, this article is supported by multiple references from reliable sources, and if another page about the same person would not have been deleted earlier, this page would not be questioned at all.

I think, due to references from multiple reliable sources and the fact that Fraz Wahlah's photo is the most often used illustration material for such a well documented historical incident as the Movement for the Restoration of Democracy, this article clearly has its place on Wikipedia, so please consider removing the deletion tag. Thanks, DillonPalm (talk) 18:59, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Hi like you I can’t see the deleted article so don’t know how similar it is to the one you created. In my view the article you wrote is promotional and strains to demonstrate notability, so I’m happy to leave it to an admin who can see both to make the judgement. Mccapra (talk) 19:47, 1 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi, I don't feel it is promotional, but thanks for your response, let the admin make the judgement. DillonPalm (talk) 23:10, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

Regarding your draftification of these two articles, I think it may be more worthwhile to move them back to mainspace and put them up for AfD. The creator was indefinitely blocked for various reasons, so it is extremely doubtful anyone would work on these in draftspace, and WP:DRAFTIFY is clear that it shouldn't be used as a form of shadow-deletion. Just my two-cents Curbon7 (talk) 17:14, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

@Curbon7: thanks for your note. I didn’t realise that about the creator. I sent the articles to draft as potentially notable but not properly sourced. Personally I’m not willing to do the prep work required to take them to AfD but if that seems right to you, go ahead and nominate them. Mccapra (talk) 19:12, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

@Jadamondo: Well it was declined at AFC just now because it “requires significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources to show notability.” It still doesn’t have that. You need more independent sources that discuss the organisation in some depth. Mccapra (talk) 10:59, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

For review

I have rearranged a page named Pantsir-M two months ago. I have completed it and I wanted to remove that tag. Thanks and happy editing.(I ame Shears (talk) 02:42, 10 October 2021 (UTC))

@I ame shears: hi thanks for working on this. I’ve taken the cleanup tag off but I’ve also added a footnotes tag. Most of the article content isn’t clearly linked to a source so there is still further work to be done on that. All the best Mccapra (talk) 05:29, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

I will work further to improve till it achieve te standard level. Thanks for your help. Cheers I ame Shears (talk) 13:19, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Meetup today

Hi there, it was good to meet you. This is precisely the kind of edit that I mentioned. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:12, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

@Redrose64: likewise. I think we should start a category of People nearly hit by flying eggs in the interests of inclusiveness. Mccapra (talk) 22:17, 10 October 2021 (UTC)
