The foundation is looking for tech gurus. here . Not sure if things are still bad for you but I reckon you'd be suitable. like this..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:32, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Things are good. Thank you. —MJCdetroit (yak) 03:31, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
This has been marked as approved. Sorry I never got back to you about improving your regexes. One important but quick fix is to escape those unescaped full stops/periods. There are a bunch of other problems, but it should at least be usable atm. - Kingpin13 (talk) 02:53, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Detroiterbot modifications concerns
Dear MJCdetroit,
You bot, Detroiterbot has been doing modifications which are contrary to the following statement of WP:MOSNUM:
Put the units first that are in the most widespread use in the world. Usually, these are International System of Units (SI) units and non-SI units officially accepted for use with the SI; but there are various exceptions for some measurements, such as years for long periods of time or the use of feet in describing the altitude of aircraft. If editors cannot agree, and several units are found in the sources, put SI first.
The current edits of your bot systematically put customary units first, before SI units. Hence, I request that you bot be stopped immediately and all for its modifications be reverted.
In addition, your bot's user page does not have the following mandatory information:
- Details of the bot's task (or tasks)
- When it operates (continuously, intermittently, or at specified intervals), and at what rate
Nor the optional emergency shutdown button.
Finally, as your bot is so good to put FFU first, maybe could it be used to enforce MOSNUM in putting SI units first.
Thank you for your cooperation.
P.S.: To make this process quicker I have reported your bot to AVI.
Xionbox₪ 07:17, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sir, I've been involved in the MOSNUM for many years, and I am well aware of what its intentions are. My bot has been approved and has performed this function many times in the past. You would be correct if my bot was making similar changes to other than American articles. It seems that you have missed the part of the MOSNUM directly under the part that you quoted. It states:
**For topics strongly associated with a given place, put the most appropriate units first. For example:
- US articles generally put United States customary units first.
- UK articles more often put metric units first, but imperial units may be put first in some contexts...
- Therefore, the bot actually is enforcing the MOSNUM [for U.S. articles]. Someone else already has a bot that goes through articles and adds metric conversions to U.S. customary and Imperial units.
- The mandatory information maybe something that has since been required since the last time I operated the bot. It will be added. Thank you.

- Dear MJCdetroit,
- I reacted too quickly without paying full attention to the exact list of your bot's modifications. I thought your bot was modifying every article, not just California articles. Sorry for my mistake.

- Apology accepted. That is why we have talk pages. —MJCdetroit (yak) 20:46, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Bot edit summary
It looks like your bot edit summary is specific to each edit. Can you tell me how to do it with AWB code? I'll watch this page. Regards Lightmouse (talk) 13:14, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
- I honestly do not know. I assumed it was something that AWB was doing automatically because I am using the "Find and replace" with "Normal settings" under the Options tab. To be as complete as I can for you: under that tab, I have "Auto tag" and "Unicodify whole page" checked along with obviously "Enabled". Also Skip if no replacement is checked. Under the Start tag, in the summary box I've added: ", format, grammar, etc." after "clean up". Then, I checked off "Lock" and "Minor edit". Under the Bots tab, I've checked off the "Suppress "using AWB" in edit summary". And that is pretty much it. AWB adds the "replaced..." stuff. Hope that helps. —MJCdetroit (yak) 02:39, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Interesting. I'll try what you've done and ask the AWB people. Lightmouse (talk) 08:35, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
- Figured it out. It was right there in front of us the whole time. Under "Normal settings" at the top is a check box to check off that says "add replacements to edit summary". —MJCdetroit (yak) 18:20, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
Excellent! I'll test it in a few days. If I can make it work like yours, that'll be a great improvement. Incidentally, feel free to comment at my bot applications starting with Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Lightbot 6 to 14. These revive a tiny subset of the previous Lightbot3 functionality. Lightmouse (talk) 19:17, 25 April 2011 (UTC)
- I've just tested 'Add replacements to edit summary' and it works as you say. Unfortunately it only works for the 'Find&replace' dialog and doesn't work with custom modules. My custom module is hundreds of lines long. Did you edit the 'Find&replace' dialog line-by-line or did you find an easy way to transfer an entire custom module? Lightmouse (talk) 11:57, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
- No. It is just the 'Find&Replace' dialog; 11 lines long. I wanted a few more lines for some other minor functions but it got denied. —MJCdetroit (yak) 01:18, 1 May 2011 (UTC)
Plymouth, Pennsylvania
The Plymouth, Pennsylvania article is far too long, but there are many opportunities to make some sections into articles. Can you help?--DThomsen8 (talk) 14:08, 17 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I really can not help write new articles from this page. Someone [Buckyboot] had a lot of interest in this town to write such an extensive article, perhaps they would be best suited. My best suggestion be to make the history and the coal mining into two separate articles and have a minimal amount in the main Plymouth, Pennsylvania article. —MJCdetroit (yak) 02:52, 18 April 2011 (UTC)
source
please provide a source for the 01:00 time ! thanks Mightymights (talk) 18:22, 2 May 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I think you've got the wrong person. —MJCdetroit (yak) 16:37, 4 May 2011 (UTC)
I believe you are the admin that recently locked this article. While I appreciate someone took notice of the constant vandalism on the article, I am not sure you really intended to block it at the level you did. I am a long-time established editor (autoconfimred etc) but can no longer edit this article. Is this what you intended? Regards, Mercy11 (talk) 02:41, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
- I changed it to one week at this level. I want to completely review the history of the article. —MJCdetroit (yak) 13:36, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

PC
Please don't add Pending changes to any more articles (as you did at Niagara Falls)—doing so would be against the Request for comment. Cheers, —GFOLEY FOUR— 04:31, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
