Orphaned non-free media (Image:Charity Shield.gif)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Charity Shield.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fair use rationale for Image:NRLlogo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:NRLlogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Infobox Logos and Captions

[edit]

Nice work with tidying up the season pages over the past few weeks. But I must ask, why the need to reduce the image logo and remove the caption? I thought it looked fine as it was, but I won't revert it back for the time being. MDM (talk) 07:50, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Thanks. Yeah, as with everything I do it's aimed at the improvement of the articles. I could find no other sports league on wikipedia which had a similar caption below its logo, and this made sense to me, as anyone looking at a logo with "NSWRL" on it might be able to deduce that it is, in fact the logo of the NSWRL. Such a caption would be appropriate where the logo appears on the relevant area of a NSWRL history page, e.i. "Logo of the NSWRL from 19XX to 19XX." or the like, not on every season's infobox. Also I thought 150px was tad too large, so reduced them a tad. I felt that they kinda dominated the page too much. I use that Wikipedia image there in the top left corner as a guide. I don't think they should be bigger than that, otherwise its overkill. I believe sometimes less is more. Some of the things I see going on in rugby league articles make it painfully obvious that editors are trying their best to add more content without regard for articles' quality by academic writing standards. In my eyes it makes for less classy encyclopedia content.--Jeff79 (talk) 04:30, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just on the season infoboxes, I really hate that gap created by having the '(s)' in 'Top points scorer(s)' forced onto its own line. Rather than make the infobox any wider, how about we change it to 'Top try-scorer(s)' and 'Top point-scorer(s)' (which I personally prefer anyway). Someone was adamant that it should be 'try scorer' and 'points scorer' in a previous discussion. I can't remember if that was you or not. But surely removing that stupid space is the lesser of two evils.--Jeff79 (talk) 07:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh you don't see it? I get it at home (where I use vista and the latest Internet Explorer) and here at work (where I use XP and an older IE version). I assumed everyone saw the same thing. Wierd. For me it's like this:

Top points scorer So-and-so (X points) (s) Top try scorer(s) Whatshisname (X tries)

Maybe I should start a discussion on the template talk page just asking around to see what others get.--Jeff79 (talk) 09:01, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NRL squads

[edit]

I don't understand the benefits of the changes to the squads navboxes, I see the usefulness of having the coach on his own line, but beyond that and from a structural point of view it seems weaker to me.Londo06 01:04, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I tried that one and it brought up numbers, which for NRL clubs is an alien concept. Someone needs to look into the coding to give us a standard.Londo06 12:32, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:Central Cheetahs

A tag has been placed on Template:Central Cheetahs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

colours reply

[edit]

I changed most of the ones with white in the middle, because white is none of those teams main colours. I was going to change the Roosters ones as well, but I coudn't determine if red or blue was the more dominant colour so I left it as it is. I also didn't change Melbourne because both their non-white colours looked the same next to each other.  The Windler talk  10:46, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For a SVG program - try Inkscape which is what I use (on Windows). While I can't create anything that some people make, it is easy to change colours.
According to the Inkscape article, it will work on "Mac OS X (under X11)". You can download it here

jerseys

[edit]

Yeah, sure, I worry about the new jersey's first and then the dimensions of the original two. When I upload them they will be on my gallery (I'm not posting them on the projects talk page any more). They should be done by the end of the day, but I'll alert you anyway.

Thanks for the barnstar, and I've been updating List of National Rugby League golden point games, which you made a FL, but to keep it accurate, I have been updating. Though, I though you might have, seeing you did a great job.  The Windler talk  00:14, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, is there a year the jersey was first used for the "war" and "blue heritage" jersey and when they were first used. To go with my theme of having the year the jersey's were first used in the image title. They don't have to be correct, just estimates. Alot of the years on my gallery are estimates, not real, especially for jersey's 1908-1970. The two original Roosters ones aren't, it is very famous and said in the book I'm using for all these jersey's.
Also, is the blue jersey, exactly the same as the foundation jersey except with blue backdrop (instead of red) and the blue stripes replaced with red.  The Windler talk  00:26, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've done them all, uploaded new versions of the original two, and the war one (those three are on the Sydney Roosters article). The heritage jersey, once I'm given a year (I researched a little, and can't seem to find one, which is making me believe it is an "away" jersey, but...) I'll upload it.  The Windler talk  01:44, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I've uploaded it as here Image:Eastern Suburbs home jersey 19??.svg (how original). I don't know what use you want to put to it so it's all yours.  The Windler talk

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

I stumbled upon your sandbox template at User:MDM/Sandbox3 today and I noticed that it is used on several articles. Might I suggest that you move the Infobox template over to the Template namespace and adjust the articles that use the template? Yep, that's what I meant. Y'know, the word 'details' could have stayed in the sub-headings if the main headings were changed to "Playing Career" and "Coaching Career". Tildes v text

[edit]

Hi M - just wondering why you are changing the time/date stamp tildes to text in the update field of the infobox? It's far quicker, more accurate etc to enter the tildes and makes it a better time reference for before/after game updates. Is there a reason? Cheers, Florrieleave a note 09:11, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I must say that the 1 September 2008 is much better than 11:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC). I prefer writing the date out. I used to do the date after the game so there was no confusion. If you don't like writing out the date try {{subst:today}} will simply make: 1 September 2008.  The Windler talk  11:23, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll stick to the tildes in that case, it's what it's designed for, after all and I do prefer the accuracy. I just couldn't work out why it was worth time/effort to somebody to follow along and change it. There's enough editing to be done without that. Cheers, Florrieleave a note 13:18, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, I've been offline for a bit anyway. All that preferences stuff with dates is now 'deprecated' and discouraged rather than encouraged. So, unless the wikilinking of a date has a direct relevance to an article about that date, it doesn't need to be done. See MOS:UNLINKDATES. Junior reps in infobox

[edit]

(cross-posted to Joel and M) What's the go with the Australian Schoolboys in the infoboxes? I thought we had agreed to not have junior and/or lower level rep sides in the infobox? Or has the Project changed it's stance? I'm a touch annoyed with all this to-ing and fro-ing edit/revert business over stuff I thought had been decided. Please let me know if it is definitely in or out. Cheers, Florrieleave a note 02:24, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, he was there. [1] That vote on coaching information clearly spelled out (to me, at least) the stance on playing information. The same rules for inclusion of playing data should apply. This means coaching of junior representative teams such as Australian Schoolboys and non-top-level teams such as those in the Queensland Cup should be in the body text only. And yet, here we are again... Florrieleave a note 13:43, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Names for clubs

[edit]

If you wouldn't mind. Could you create a list of NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL clubs and what they should be referred to in the infobox at certain times. And I'm also not sure about including mascots for early players. It would be appreciated. You don't have to of course.  The Windler talk  20:44, 10 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that you put Western Suburbs out very far... well west. Originally the magpies were based at Ashfield(which is east of cumberland and parramatta, even Homebush). They remained at Ashfield for over 60 years moving to Lidcombe in the seventies and than finally west to campbelltown in the eighties. You need to fix the location, but it is already very cluttered where wests would go, so, lol, good luck. --58.172.251.46 (talk) 12:17, 23 September 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.251.46 (talk)

List of New Zealand Warriors players

[edit]

Hey. Re: you adding statistics to the list, I have two questions/queries: 1) Is there a way to get the T,G,FG & P categories to sort properly? 2) Unless someone is dedicated to updating them every round then I'm concerned they will become out of date and only some players will get updated. Mattlore (talk) 22:35, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers for that, I might add players as they make there debut but leave the stats blank. Also will probably re-add the data that got lost in the transfer (date of debut, previous club, next club) at some point in the future. Mattlore (talk) 20:06, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think listing clubs, especially previous clubs, is an important part of the list as it allows you to see who has come from domestic league, Australia etc and year-by-year trends. Mattlore (talk) 21:25, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Off again

[edit]

Quick note to let you all know I am off again. I simply cannot cope with morons and destructive editing, there are more important things in life. We're opening our shop next week anyway, so I need to put away the distractions. If one of you would mind finishing off Allan McMahon's infobox I would appreciate it. I only got as far as coaching. Hope to be back eventually. Cheers! Florrieleave a note 13:33, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am also now resting from the WikiProject. Though not stopping editing RL and other articles. I will watch over th eproject to make sure there are no modifications to any thing I have spent countless times trying to defend, but other than that am not going to dab in the project until next year. The three mini-projects I aim to have done by then are 1) Complete the list of "new=yes" removals, 2) Complete Justin Hodges, South Queensland Crushers, WA Reds and Northern Eagles to good articles and 3) Add a sentence or two to the Australian Schoolboys players to represent the material I've just mostly removed. Any help in (especially #1) would be appeciated and good luck and hope to see you back.
Also, on your user page, is there an english version of your language templates. I'm interested in such things but unfortentuly (and they are poorly thought out) they put it in the language you speak. How are non- speakers going to know wht language you speak?  The Windler talk  08:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of List of Wests Tigers players

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article List of Wests Tigers players, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Thanks for uploading Image:Sydney Roosters 2007.png. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Sydney Roosters 2008.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sydney Roosters 2008.png.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:12, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've uploaded File:National Rugby League 2001.jpg, and indicated that it's used under Wikipedia's rules for non-free images. However, it's not presently used in any articles. Wikipedia policy requires that non-free images be either used or deleted, so if this image isn't used in an article in the next week, it will be deleted.

Unreferenced BLPs

[edit]

Hello MDM! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to insure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 3 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Luke Ricketson - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Ferris Ashton - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  3. Brian Canavan - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 21:48, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Brian Canavan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP with inaccurate or stale information since online refs indicate someone else is CEO.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 01:21, 21 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Manly 1950.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Manly 1950.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Also:

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:02, 9 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
