New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Lightoil,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Hello Lightoil:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!

Your review Draft:Daniel_Diaz_(musician)
Hi, thanks for taking some time to watch my page. I've been working on this since February and it was declined before. That time I've got some useful tips on what was wrong with this article, I did a lot of corrections and submitted. As for your review, I think I get the 'reference bombing" thing, I will go through all the references to reduce its number. Indeed, many refer to recent album that was largely covered in the Spanish language press and some journalist like to copy/paste from the same press release they've got so many may share similar content.
As for the "peacock terms" and the "too promotional" comments Can you please be more specific? I really can't see where the "promotional" stuff is, comparing to many other musician's wikis Y reviewed.
That would be really helpful fro me, this is taking way too long!
Thanks in advance, cheers Vic.
Vicpaz (talk) 13:15, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Vicpaz after relooking through the draft I was mistaken about the promo but if you could cut down on the number of references and use better formatting, I believe that your draft will possible be able to survive AFD. Lightoil (talk) 14:31, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, well I already found 7 ref that are redundant, I will remove tonight.
- What's wrong with the formatting? I guess you refer to the actual English-language-sentence-formatting? Cause the actual page format/layout (what in my native language is called "formatting") looks ok, like many other artist's pages.
- If you could point me to one issue abut that it will be very helpful.
- thanks again,
- vic Vicpaz (talk) 14:36, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Vicpaz you should not bold much of the body for no good reason. Use italics for albums instead of quotation marks. Lastly, don't use Discogs as a source for his discography. Lightoil (talk) 14:46, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Got it.
- I don't know what to use as "discography source", other than discogs, there's the label's webpage and Spotify etc, I though discogs was more "neutral"...
- I guess the use of italics vs quotation marks is different in other languages, cause I'm quite sure I read that album, book and plays should be in quotation marks , but I was wrong. And the only use I see of bold in the body is for album titles (I used both bold and quotation marks, twice wrong!)
- Will work on this tonight, and will streamline the ref. section.
- I guess I should re-submit the corrected article and put it in the line again, right?
- Thanks for your kind assistance. Really appreciate, cheers VP Vicpaz (talk) 15:15, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Vicpaz yes please resubmit when you are ready. Your article will need more copyediting and see MOS:POPMUSIC for the relervent guideline. Remember other language Wikipediaes have their own rules for Manual of Style. Lightoil (talk) 15:24, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

About Electronic Theatre Controls. How do I resubmit?
Hi! I noticed you declined my draft, which normally would be no issue but now it's not giving me the option to resubmit. I wasnt done writing it and adding references yet as I had just gotten helpful tips from another Wikipedian to help me. So how can I resubmit when I am done? Thank you Segatari (talk) 5:03, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Segatari: There is no option to resubmit because I don't think the topic is notable. Lightoil (talk) 05:10, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- There are lots of sources that I can include now that I know what sources define notability and which are permitted for drafts. I've really learned a lot and I know exactly what references to add to prove notability. Please kindly unlock it so I can resubmit :( Segatari (talk) 05:18, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Segatari If you really want to resubmit it add {{subst:submit}} but I suggest that you do not do unless you are very sure it would be accepted as if you keep resubmitting with it getting declined you risk it getting deleted through WP:MFD. Lightoil (talk) 05:25, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
About the draft of Petro Kotins article
Dear Lightoil, I ask you to reconsider your decision regarding the notable of the article.
Reasons: the person (Petr Kotin) heads the largest energy company in Ukraine (55% of electricity production in the country), the company ranks seventh in the world and second in Europe in terms of installed nuclear power plant capacity (13835 MW). He managed the largest nuclear power plant in Europe - Zaporozhye (6000 MW). Actively working with international structures to deoccupy the seized station.
As an example of publications of this kind, the biography of Gazprom top manager Alexey Miller was published in the English version of Wikipedia. And you can find many such examples. I hope for your understanding. Leo211 (talk) 20:39, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Leo211 I disagree with the assertion that Petro Kotin is notable. However, you could ask other editors who may have a different opinion. The reasons you gave does not make him notable as it is more like his résumé and WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS is not a good argument. Lightoil (talk) 01:11, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the review.
- The only thing I don’t understand is why the other five editors (Qcne, Johannes, GoingBatty, Vanderwaalforces, Kilaseell) didn’t immediately reject the draft on the basis of the fact that it was not notasble? They were happy with everything, I fulfilled their requirements and finalized the draft.
- So the decision to block the draft is made by one person? If the issue of inclusion or non-inclusion of an article is so serious in terms of requirements, then a collective decision is necessary. That's fair then. And here it turns into an extremely regulated space. Leo211 (talk) 09:32, 15 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Leo211 rejection happens when you submit too many times without passing AFC review and it is done by an individual editor not by consensus. Like I said to the person below your post, you could add {{subst:submit}} at your own risk. Lightoil (talk) 17:01, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

Requested move: DMA's
- Hi there, recently you closed a discussion regarding a requested move for the DMA's wiki article after majority voted not to have the page moved. The move was initially requested on 3 October 2023 as recent reliable sources refer to the band as "DMA'S" not "DMA's".
Please see some examples of such sources below: https://www.aria.com.au/awards/nominees https://www.billboard.com/music/awards/troye-sivan-dmas-taylor-swift-2023-aria-awards-1235471303/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28w72eblKGw https://open.spotify.com/artist/1iUTUix5kea176M0uJTsh4?si=k64sQJW1SoieRWJJufO8hw and https://dmasdmas.com/ I wanted to discuss with you this topic before officially requesting a review of the closure, thank you. - @Kweenoo1620 I closed it as not moved as not only was it opposed by most participants it is also policy see WP:TITLETM. So to close it as moved I will have to not only WP:SUPERVOTE, I will also have to go against policy. Lightoil (talk) 04:12, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
Pagemove at Judge Rotenberg Center
Hi, I saw that when you performed the move at Judge Rotenberg Center, the page swap for the corresponding talk pages or archives was malformed. I've swapped the talk pages and subpages now so that they work out correctly. Cheers! ~ F4U (talk • they/it) 15:56, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Freedom4U ummm I may be dumb but how were they malformed? Lightoil (talk) 16:50, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
- For some reason, only the subpages of the talk pages were moved (the two talk archives), but the talk pages themselves weren't swapped. I'm stumped myself as to how that could have happened, but it's all good now. :) ~ F4U (talk • they/it) 16:58, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Page mover granted
Hello, Lightoil. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

Rose's article
You could have just edit out Koreaboo, Vogue magazine and and others are reliable source. And you told me not to tamper the article, but i can't just be looking at article with no update. nobody even bother to add "the first lady of United States until I did so." Wikipedia is for all editors to contribute, not just one person. Yotrages (talk) 10:43, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Yotrages: Your inquest on my talk page is borderline incoherent, I am not owning Rosé's article as I have only reverted you twice 1 for unexplained removal of content, 2 for using Koreaboo as a source. You have been able to continue editing Rosé's article without my interference, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8. If you still have an issue with my reverts, please explain why you removed the content from Rosé's article and you need to convince the wider community that Koreaboo is a reliable source at WP:RSN or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea/Reliable sources. Lightoil (talk) 16:22, 2 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Lightoil, you didn't asked me for explanation before removing all my edits, the content was removed from Rosé's article by mistake and I was trying to learn how to replace the {{References}} from other editors because i'm new, before you restored it. I'm sorry my inquest was incoherent, and i was only annoyed because you told me to never touch the article, but i'm sorry for everything, I'm willing to learn from you and other editors. you told me to never touch the article

Tarot
Hi, and thanks for the move. Seems that many more will be needed, please see the bottom of my talk page and/or of Dicklyon's talk page. Thanks, and happy holidays. Randy Kryn (talk) 00:51, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Randy Kryn just to be clear you want revert every single move he made to tarot card articles per WP:RMUM. Lightoil (talk) 01:25, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi. Well, yes, those are accurately uppercased per ngrams. But maybe they should be talked out with Dicklyon, as Liz suggested at my talk page, although the result will likely be the same reverts. Dicklyon probably moved these without checking the ngrams, and I don't think he'll object to the reverts (just seems a lot of work, maybe tools will do these quickly as not only the titles need to be reversed but the text was also lowercased in the articles I've looked at and those should also be reverted). Not to put this work al on you, you were just the editor who caught my RM request. I don't actually know how mass reverts like this one requested are carried out. Thanks again. Randy Kryn (talk) 01:52, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry Randy Kryn, I am going to decline doing the mass move revert as I am not sure/confident of doing such task, a maybe ask Liz to do so as her admin tools it would possibility make it easier to complete mass moves? Lightoil (talk) 03:54, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Of course, it sounds like a bit of work. Liz noticed the request quickly, and rightly thinks some discussion should be held as to avert an edit war, so I've stopped reverting the lowercasings although I don't think anyone would edit war over this. Am a bit surprised that none of the regular page editors of the topics didn't object, I just happened to have that one tarot card on my watch list for some reason and moved it, then checked another which is when I came to the RM page, and you took it from there. Randy Kryn (talk) 04:04, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Well, it's because I review the Move log regularly so I both noticed all of User:Dicklyon's article moves over the past few days, noticed the one rever that Randy Kryn did and saw Lightoil's edit summary in one of your moves mentioning this incident. I believe that there is a tool for mass page moves but I've never used it before and would not like to experiment with it on main space articles. But before doing dozens of reverts, I think there should be a discussion at RM with Dicklyon because, to be honest, I don't know which capitalization scheme is appropriate. I'm kind of weak on my MOS knowledge. I do know that Dicklyon had a rationale in his page moves but I don't recall what it was. My goal is to avoid a move war and to avoid that happening, it's important to get more editors involved in a discussion. I find edit wars are much more likely to happen when you have just two editors with opposing points of views, you get 4 or 5 editors offering their opinion, you're much less likely to be going back and forth.
- But I have spent little time at RM. Is that an appropriate place to have this discussion? Liz Read! Talk! 04:37, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Liz and Randy Kryn, I think this is best settled in a requested move or a manuel of style discussion, not on my talk page which no one watches. Lightoil (talk) 04:56, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
Archiving too quick
Hi, I'd just like to inform you that you are archiving your talk page in a much too quick manner compared to standard Wikipedia policy. WP:PREMATUREARCHIVE states that the page must have "numerous stale discussions", and generally people have an auto-archive period of a month or more. Archiving this fast runs the risk of appearing to bury otherwise relevant discussions about your editing. Please lengthen the time between archives, as 1 day is highly unusual. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:31, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm WP:OWNTALK states that I could archive my own talk page however I want. Please give an example of any of my archived conversations that you feel has been archived prematurely. However, to assuage your concerns I will lengthen my archive time for now. Lightoil (talk) 18:59, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- The "discretion" you speak of still implies that it's within a reasonable timeframe. For example, anywhere from 1-6 month delay is a viable option depending on how often you get talk messages. However, below a month is highly uncommon unless your page is extremely busy.
- One example would be your recent Randy Kryn discussion. It seems you ended the discussion with "hey, this shouldn't be on my talk page" and then archived it. That may very well be true, but WP:UOWN states that talk pages do not belong to the user. If someone disagreed with this statement they would not have been able to respond because it was immediately archived. It is not, say, like an email inbox you can check and delete. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:54, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm that discretion is absolute WP:REMOVED state
Policy does not prohibit users, whether registered or unregistered, from removing comments from their own talk pages, although archiving is preferred. If a user removes material from their talk page, it is normally taken to mean that the user has read and is aware of its contents; this is true whether the removal was manual or automatic.
In fact I could remove this conversation right now and it will not be against policy, rude but allowed.I have always responded to talk page queries and one month archive period is way to long. Lightoil (talk) 22:00, 21 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for closing this discussion, but I was hoping you would reconsider your closure. In it, three editors supported the move and two editors opposed, and if the arguments were of equal weight I would agree that a no consensus result would be reasonable, but they weren't. In particular, the argument The most reliable source (NZGB gazetteer via Toitū te Whenua/LINZ) gives the name as Taukihepa / Big South Cape Island per https://gazetteer.linz.govt.nz/place/5838
has no basis in policies or guidelines; a single source is never sufficient to determine what the common name is, particularly when that single source is from the entity that determines what the official name is - to give a single source such weight would overturn our preference for using the common name over the official name. - I came here to question why the perfectly acceptable close had been reverted so long after it was made, suppose I shouldn't have been surprised. For the record, I think your close was fine Lightoil given the move had been relisted previously and that one of the support votes was bordering on conspiratorial, but I'm sure a subsequent close will come to the same conclusion after wasting more of everyone's time.
