Speedy deletion nomination of Draft:Kk
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice that Draft:Kk, a page that you created, has been tagged for deletion. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- The page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. (See section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do.
- It appears to be a test page. (See section G2 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Maliner (talk) 06:06, 5 March 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 00:35, 6 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, Kseni-kam,
- Please be more careful with page moves, make sure a) that the article should be moved to a different page title, b) that you have spelled it correctly and c) that you are moving the article to the correct namespace. If you have questions, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 00:36, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 19
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited New Moscow (painting), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Cm. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Kseni-kam! Your additions to Draft:Martyrs of Alapayevsk have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's elegibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:18, 7 May 2024 (UTC)

Artem.G (talk) 07:42, 7 June 2024 (UTC)Question about OKA
[edit]hey, thanks for your nice translations! I never heard of OKA, but today saw two editors supported by them. If you don't mind to answer, how does it work? Do you choose what to translate by yourself? I can see a very broad range of translated articles, looks impressive. Artem.G (talk) 20:39, 7 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi! Thank you for your editorial work and this message, too. I am quite new at OKA: I joined the team three months ago. We aim to fill the existing gaps between Wikipedia in different languages, and we have a long and growing list of articles to translate: some are chosen by our team leaders, others are suggested by us freelance translators. The articles to be translated are selected for being well written and highly qualified (with reliable references, bibliography, clear narrative and structure in the source language, etc.) in different languages. Then we pick them up and translate according to our interests and backgrounds. Kseni-kam (talk) 21:48, 8 June 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Translating across Wikipedias
[edit] Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you translated text from one or more pages to another page. While you are welcome to translate Wikipedia content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing requires that you provide attribution to the contributor(s) of the original article. When translating from a foreign-language Wikipedia article, this is supplied at a minimum in an edit summary on the page where you add translated content, identifying it as a translation and linking it to the source page. For example: Content in this edit is translated from the existing French Wikipedia article at [[:fr:Exact name of French article]]; see its history for attribution.
It is good practice, especially if translation is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{translated page}} template on the talk page of the destination article. If you have added translated content previously which was not attributed at the time it was added, please add attribution retrospectively for that also, even if it was a long time ago. You can read more about author attribution and the reasons for it at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. asilvering (talk) 20:14, 12 June 2024 (UTC)

Copyright problem: Draft:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905)
[edit]Hello Kseni-kam! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Draft:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905), but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted material from other websites or printed works. This article appears to contain work copied from https://valenteshop.ru/en/bolshe-sil-gosudar-nastal-predel-terpeniyu-semeinyi-arhiv-ii-mery-protiv-nishchety/, and therefore to constitute a violation of Wikipedia's copyright policies. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate your contributions, copying content from other websites is unlawful and against Wikipedia's copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are likely to lose their editing privileges.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under license allowed by Wikipedia, then you should do one of the following:
- Have the author release the text under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License (CC BY-SA 4.0) by leaving a message explaining the details at Draft talk:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905) and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-enwikimedia.org". Make sure they quote the exact page name, Draft:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905), in their email. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If you hold the copyright to the work: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License and GNU Free Documentation License, and note that you have done so on Draft talk:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905). See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted "under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License (CC BY-SA), version 4.0", or that the work is released into the public domain, or if you have strong reason to believe it is, leave a note at Draft talk:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905) with a link to where we can find that note or your explanation of why you believe the content is free for reuse.
It may also be necessary for the text to be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
See Wikipedia:Declaration of consent for all enquiries for a template of the permissions letter the copyright holder is expected to send.
Otherwise, you may rewrite this article from scratch. If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Draft talk:The St. Petersburg workmen's petition to the Tsar (January 22, 1905) saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved.
Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! — Diannaa (talk) 12:49, 21 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi. I now see that the draft is a copy/translation of the Russian Wikipedia article on this topic and the source that I mentioned was copied from there (it's what we call a Wikipedia mirror). It's okay to copy/translate from other Wikipedias but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of the license. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. Please do so as soon as you create the page, so that mistakes such as mine are avoided. Best to put it in an edit summary as well as using the {{translated}}
template on the article's talk page. Thanks. — Diannaa (talk) 15:01, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for understanding and for the translation template tip! We also submit them as AfC before they pass to the main space, so it also usually helps to clear up that these are translations. Kseni-kam (talk) 20:26, 22 June 2024 (UTC)
- You are required to provide attribution under the terms of the licensing. Please don't forget, as new page patrollers might not realize you took the material from another wiki. — Diannaa (talk) 20:45, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

[edit]hey, i've just stumbled across this article and thought "wow that's a lot of redlinks!" only to hover over them and find out they're all wikilinks to Russian article titles clearly left over from your translation of the Russian article into English, e.g. Пашков, Василий Александрович (религиозный деятель). i've fixed the lead section, but this is a pretty long article and i'd appreciate it if you would clean up these links and check the links in other translations (i haven't checked any of your other articles). translation from other languages is very valuable and i salute you for it, but it's necessary to make sure links and other bits and bobs are functional. ... sawyer * he/they * talk 07:01, 25 June 2024 (UTC)

asilvering (talk) 01:05, 2 July 2024 (UTC)Translated page template goes on the Talk page
[edit]Kseni-kam, the {{translated page}} template goes on the Talk page of an article, not the article (or Draft) page. I've removed no-wikified {{Translated}} templates from Draft:Gazette readers in Naples and Draft:By the Pool, and I expect there may be more. (It looks like the nowiki tags might be an artifact of Visual Editor, if you are using that, but I'm not an expert on VE.) Also, Draft:Gazette readers in Naples lacks a Talk page; please see the OKA instructions about creating one. Adding 7804j. Mathglot (talk) 07:21, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Warm Regards, Miminity (talk) (contribs) 10:28, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Questions about the organization you represent
[edit]Hey there,
I've been accepting a lot of translated articles from the French Wikipedia page, and thus, I have seen OKA around a lot. However, I have a question about the ethics, and especially what you believe your role as a contributor is. If you wouldn't mind, this is my big question:
- As I mentioned, I have seen a lot of translated articles, which are very high ranking. Thank you for being one of those contributors, it's much appreciated. As the organizations website stated,
Do you think these translations are helpful for researchers, from a translator prospective?"...articles in topics such as Science, technology, engineering, and Finance are lacking compared to topics such as History, Geography, and Humanities. Content from non-anglophone countries is underrepresented. Hundreds of thousands of high-quality articles are not translated."
OnlyNanotalk 01:35, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi!
- That's a very interesting question.
- Based on my 5 or 6 months experience of working on these translations with OKA with Russian as the source language, I'd say that there is a part of articles (like half maybe) that can be helpful for researches, because of their approach (mostly in humanities) and the way their authors work with bibliography in this kind of articles (for example, I worked on some articles on Walter Benjamin's work and found them very complete and deep, or had some very complete and deep articles on historiography topics). I'd say that this "group" of articles can be very helpful for young researchers as an example of how to organize their ideas, to give keys to bibliographical work, to write in a clear way... And on the other hand, I'd define another group of articles that may not be so helpful for researchers, but very interesting and stimulating for erudite and curious Wiki's users/readers (like articles on outstanding people, famous paintings, monuments, etc.)
- I hope my answer will be helpful in your observations and research. Kseni-kam (talk) 04:02, 4 September 2024 (UTC)

- If this a piece of irony, please keep in mind that this is a boilerplate message by "page curators", pretty annoying, I must say, for their triviality and taking lots of vertical space on the page. For the latter reason I am usually deleting these. --Altenmann >talk 17:57, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- Now my real thanks. While I was fixing some minor, but sometimes weird mistranslations from Russian and other minor things, I learned A LOT about Russian art :-) Never particularly cared before; cum grano salis: please add the Russian titles, like here. It is not that people will learn Russian, but it is helpful for search if someone would like to read more in the internets. Also, since it seems that you are translating from ru-wiki, please add interwikilinks to the articles you create. --Altenmann >talk 18:08, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

If you don't mind, I would like to suggest you a more complicated advice. As I noticed, in ru-wiki the lead sections are rather chaotic. In en-wiki it is recommended that the first 1-2 sentences must provide a concise definition of the subject, while the rest must be a summary of the article. For example, I run into your another translation: Haymaking. Does it really important for the subject that it was painted in some obscure village and the models were painter's buddies?... And do I really want first thing to know the names of art critics who enjoyed the painting? I chopped and rearranged the lede a bit, without much thinking, leaving a more thorough job for art experts. Of course, the translation itself is a large work, and I would not insist on an extra burden... --Altenmann >talk 00:18, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- That's a nice advice, I really appreciate it and will try to put it into practice next time I work with this kind of articles about paintings. Kseni-kam (talk) 02:41, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

UserMemer (chat) Tribs 20:02, 17 October 2024 (UTC)Eya Fechin
[edit]Not much seems to have been published in English about Ия Николаевна Фешина, but what has been published calls her Eya Fechin. So the title of Draft:Eya Fechin seems appropriate. What puzzles me is that the draft refers to her as both "Eya" and "ia" (never as "ia" or "Iya"). Is "ia" some sort of mistake (perhaps of machine translation or similar) for "Eya"? If so, please correct it to "Eya" (you can easily find each example by searching for "dubious"); if not, please explain, perhaps in an "Efn" note. (And then of course remove the "dubious" warning flags.) Once that's done, I'll happily promote the draft to full article status. (I've already edited it.)
Incidentally, I infer from the article Nikolai Fechin (as well as from "Фешин(а)") that in an English-language context, the "ch" of "Fechin" would probably have been pronounced as /ʃ/ rather than as /tʃ/. How about "Eya"? In order that the draft can be promoted to an article, it's not necessary to explain all this, but an explanation would be welcome all the same. -- Hoary (talk) 22:58, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks. "Eyas"/"ias" are fixed
- What's for "ch" and "sh"...I found it strange, too, and if I had to choose and there were no information about Nicolai Fechin with this "ch" variation, I would leave it as "sh", because it's really pronounced as sh/ /ʃ/ as you mention.
- As for surname and "Fechin" or "Fechina" it's something strange that in existence sources it's "Eya Fechin" (without "a")...In Russian surnames with "ev", "ov" and "in" endings, we put "a" in female cases, so that's why I decided to leave it this way, but if you feel we'd better follow the existence sources for this aspect, it'd would be fair and logical, too. Kseni-kam (talk) 16:14, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
- It seems that "Eya Fechin" is how she's referred to in English (and how she spelled her name when using the Roman alphabet), and that's a good enough reason to call her that in the article. There's no particular reason why Russians need to observe the spelling idiosyncrasies of English, rather than those of French: Consider "Balanchine" and others. If I remember right, V. V. Nabokov strongly objected to "Anna Karenina" when discussing the character in English; he insisted on "Anna Karenin". (I am a little puzzled by father and daughter's choice of "Fechin": Why neither "Feshin" [to suit English expectations] nor "Fechine" [to suit French expectations], but instead something halfway?) ¶ I'm a little busy right now, but within 24 hours I'll promote this draft to full article status. -- Hoary (talk) 09:32, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Hoary (talk) 11:11, 21 October 2024 (UTC)Machine translation
[edit]It does seem to me that the (most worthwhile and interesting) material you're posting as translations from ru:Wikipedia are, or are derived from, machine translations. If this is so, then which machine translation system are you using? -- Hoary (talk) 22:27, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, it's true. I mainly use DeepL for translation and also DeepL, chatgpt and languagetool for proofreading. The parts with colloquial or literary quotations I do manually, if there isn't an "official" translation in a reliable source in the case of the second ones. Please let me know if you see any repetitive, awkward phrases or details. Kseni-kam (talk) 04:14, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your candor. No, I haven't seen that kind of problem. That is, aside from details. I'm now looking at the article Armenians in Byzantine Empire, which was accepted by some other editor and which is completely new to me. The title sounds very unidiomatic; I'd have titled it either Armenians in Byzantium or Armenians in the Byzantine empire. "(610-641)" etc should use en dashes rather than hyphens, thus "(610–641)". I'll put aside the references in Russian, but among those in English I notice "Stratos, A. (1980). Byzantium in the Seventh Century. Amsterdam: Cambridge University Press. p. 203. ISBN 90-256-0852-3". It's immediately odd because, whereas Oxford University Press books have been published in New York, Lagos, etc, I've never encountered a Cambridge UP book that wasn't published in Cambridge (England). And why just page 203? OCLC 174983406 explains. The book was published not by Cambridge UP but by a Dutch company, and it has 203 pages. The standard way of writing "Has 203 pages" is "203 pp", but this information is quite unnecessary. And Yale UP books are published in New Haven -- only two "E"s! -- Hoary (talk) 00:11, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
