Hello again. The Highly Active Users project has gone through a complete revamping per popular demand. We believe this new format will make it easier for new editors to find assistance. However, with the new format, I must again ask you to verify your information on this page. I attempted to translate the data from the old version to the new, but with the extensive changes, I may have made some errors. Thanks again. RFA Thanks
Well, I guess I’m an admin now. Thanks for your support at my recent request for adminship. I hope you find I live up to your expectations. Best, Risker (talk) 13:35, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- This is one of the best thank-spams ever! Your first sentence is a gem. You'll do well, best of luck to you, enjoy the buttons, and all that jazz. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 13:59, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
Crime victim notability
posting here because I'm 90% sure you were involved in the discussion that I now can't find, or if you weren't someone else watching was. 69.140 raised a good question on my talk page about crime victim notability and as I said, I know there was discussion on this and a proposal for a guideline that addressed this. Of course I can no longer remember who proposed it or where the discussion lived. Any chance you remember? Thanks! TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 13:53, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

So is Keeper now notable for being such a vandal? :-p TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 16:08, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- There's a group called WP:HAU, (look into adding yourself if you want, you definitely "qualify".) with new userbox that is supposed to autopopulate a category. But it doesn't. I've tried to fix it. I caint. I've given up. No more vandalism. Definitely a BLP1E situation. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 16:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Seen the group around when Useight was notifying a couple of people on my watchlist but wasn't sure if you had to be invited. I have no idea when userboxes autopop -- bummer that you couldn't make it work. I;m off to check out the group now. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 16:30, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
That RfA link
As I said, I didn't want to keep using Balloonman's page for that conversation. Anyway, thanks for posting the link to that RfA. To me, other people's jumping the gun to vote early is not a valid reason to oppose someone's RfA. That strikes me as frankly ridiculous. The error is on the part of the early voters, not the nominee. Aleta Sing 15:34, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- You're absolutely right Aleta. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:38, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Aleta, I agree, it is not a valid reason to oppose an RfA. However, it should be noted that in cases where there is unnecesary over-nominating and several supports (or opposes) pre-transclusion, that is still a problem for that RfA. There is still a lot drive-by voting on RfAs, and it's not that crazy to think that an RfA transcluded with several support votes will be more likely to continue garnering them with not enough attention actually given to the candidate. It's a tough situation, because even pointing out the problem in neutral or discussion will still be unfair to the candidate, but it is unfair to the community if an RfA becomes improperly skewed in any direction. Wisdom got somewhat derailed by it, but at the same time I found the concerns valid, it was sad to see it having a negative effect on him. The point is that it shouldn't have a positive effect either, which it certainly can. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 15:46, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Huh. I completely agree with that too! You're like 3 for 3 today Gwynand! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:47, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I wonder if if would be possible for someone to code the RfA template such that it would not be possible to vote before transclusion. The transclusion would turn it "on" in effect. Aleta Sing 15:53, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I back away slowly with template work. Not sure if that's possible other than maybe a very stern warning in the edit window. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:56, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- When I create a nom, I always add a hidden comment telling people not to support until the RfA goes live as early votes can derail the candidate. I also try to tell the candidate to make sure there are no supports when they transclude it. (I'm not worried about early opposes---removing an early oppose might garner more opposition!)Balloonman (talk) 16:01, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think it all just depends on people's moods. For example, looking at different AN and ANI threads right now, you'd think the world was ending. I just transcluded my most recent nom yesterday, with my support (and the co-noms) both "prefilled". No one said boo. Also, on a slightly unrelated note, I recently stumbled across a very enlightening thread on SandyGeorgia's talkpage, and have to say that I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments of the editors there. - This user, despite everyone having "adopted" him as the Young Apprentice of Wikipedia, takes up way too much of editors' time and resources. While it's regretful and the knee-jerk reaction is probably to discuss this ad nauseum all day and give him some sort of "final warning", the glaring reality is that this problem is not likely to go away. I'm not explicitly endorsing a block here, but I do think everyone needs to move on and spend time on more constructive issues. I had a boss once who told me, "If you think you're spending too much time trying to make a person better, you are." I didn't necessarily agree with my boss there, but I think it applies here. - If it can't be said here, then I don't want it anyway. And, because I primarily edit from a work computer, that has some serious filters because of the nature of my work, I can't access web-based email/gmail/yahoo/whatever. - Part of it was just this: I'm married to a college instructor. An appalling number of her college students don't understand how to source things properly. Maybe they teach this in some schools, but it's clearly not universal. It's also possible they've mostly all been taught this, and some of them choose to forget about it. Friday (talk) 18:11, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- (to Friday e/c)As I said in a thread somewhere (probably here) today, I'm also married to a tenured college professor. Wrote the curriculum for a Research Writing course that she teaches. Where you are required to cite sources, cite everything. And yet, at least once per semester, some 22-year-old needs-this-last-English-credit-to-graduate, goes and rips off a source. Plagiarism. They know it's wrong. I believe it is universal. They've known it's wrong to copy since kindergarten. But there's pressure. Pressure to graduate. Pressure for good grades. In Wiki-world, RyRy has been "pressured" by wikipedian co-editors to perform "mainspace" editing. I'm guilty of doing it myself, even awarding a Barnstar (something I generally despise) for Baseball uniform. Argh. He needs to go back to user-subspace oblivion. Or get about 5 years older magically. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:19, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I echo that. Just a few years ago I was astonished when peer reviewing papers in some of my college classes. When I once questioned a student on taking word-for-word a section from an author's article, she claimed "That was just his opinions on Gandhi, not facts, so I don't need to source it." This was at an actual major university. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 18:13, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thritto. I defended my thesis this semester and everyone swaps past horror stories. One of the prime ones was from Dec '06, someone being found uduring their orals to have ripped off a large section. That's it -- done and done. Sad shame that could have been avoided, but wasn't. Not complaining ... just commenting
I have never been impressed when someone excuses their own bad behaviour as being caused by some else's bad behaviour. [2] I'm sure there's some wikimantra somewhere like WP:POINT that may make the case better than I can.
Fundamentally I believe that an apology ought not to include blame, else it's just the start of another argument. It appears that I'm in a minority of one on that issue though, so that's just set my next RfA back by another three months. I really can't understand how you administrators manage to live long enough to ever get through an RfA.  --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 20:58, 16 May 2008 (UTC)

- No doubt you were right to close what was in danger of becoming an unproductive and potentially acrimonious discussion. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man." I like to think of myself as the archetypal "unreasonable man". Can you stand another comment about it?
("It", of course, being the RyRy sitch. Man, I REALLY wish you had e-mail enabled, because THIS is the sort of thing I'd rather not say on-wiki!) Keeper, I would consider you one of my few "wiki-friends", and so it bugs me to have to say this, but in regard to the events of the past few days...somethin' ain't right. I can't say for sure WHAT, exactly, is going on, but my "somebody's-about-to-get-screwed-over" sense is tingling. (This is a fairly sharp sense, incidentally. I have been screwed over by people who, if screwing others over were an Olympic event, would have made at LEAST the alternates, if not the first team. So I know of whence I speak.) Tonight I was doing some mundane housework stuff, while thinking about what all has happened within the last week, and I just thought to myself, This just seems off-kilter somehow. And the last time I had this kind of sense about a Wikipedian, things went south pretty quickly (think Ryan Postlethwaite and Riana and mentorship). I'm not suggesting you should detach yourself completely--maybe everything is exactly as it seems on the surface--but...Just be careful. Don't put your reputation on the line, okay? I'd hate to see your good faith get abused. Just my opinion, though....Gladys J Cortez 06:04, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the heeding. I'm not worried 'bout my reputation. I would need to have one first. :-) I'm not sure who you think is "about to get screwed over"...me? RyRy? Someone else? As far as I can tell, this is a pretty non-complex issue of a too-young editor making mistakes and getting unwanted attention for it. Tis no biggie. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

And I disagree with your quip about not having a reputation to uphold, either--after all, if you didn't have a good reputation, your talk page wouldn't be such a popular place! :) As long as you're comfortable with events, that's the important thing. Request for reinstatement of deleted content
Hey there, again--tired of me yet? Anyway--A couple of days back there was this user, User:Webkinz Mania, who created an article called Sprout Sharing Show, about a show on PBS KIDS Sprout. Well, the user turned out to be a sock of perennial thorn-in-my-gluteus Jamesinc14, and in cleaning up after his sockification, JzG deleted the article. The article itself was useful, and I'd done a bit of work on it before I'd realized it was a sock that had created it (aren't admins supposed to check the history before they delete an article like that?) Anyway, I asked JzG if the article could be restored--or, lacking that, if I could have the deleted content back; his reply [3] came off to me as somewhere between "No, too trivial" and "Maybe later--I've got more-important things to do." Either way, he's not the guy I want to piss off by nagging him on something he's already characterized as insignificant--any chance you could either a)reinstate the article, or b)undelete it to my userspace? I understand if that's not considered sporting in the world of admins--if that's the case, I'll just brace myself and go visit the lion in his den again. :) (I have no problems with JzG--he's a good admin--but he's just known to be a bit...snappish, would be one word for it. And, on-wiki as well as off-, I have an aversion to other people's anger.) Either way, thanks for taking the time to read this... Gladys J Cortez 12:40, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- "Sprout" ranks right up there with "Caillou". Actually, I was watching Sprout this morning over breakfast with my 2.5 year old. I hate that he loves it. Especially because I DVR'ed my Twins game from last night, haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I'll put it in your userspace though, seems a reasonable request. You'll be able to find it a the link User:Gladys j cortez/Sprout Sharing Show as soon as it goes blue. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:01, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

I'll occasionally put it on as background noise if there's ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE on TV. Anyway, THANK YOU so much for taking care of that deleted article--now I have to go figure out how to move my first page! Gladys J Cortez 22:54, 17 May 2008 (UTC)
- Just click "move". (it's on the top of the page, next to "delete". O, wait. I mean, next to "history"....:-) Whenever I watch Sprout, I can't help but cry for the "hosts" that hafta talk like they enjoy talking to 4 year olds. The two genteleman (names escape me) that are sprout regulars look, to me, like they probably drink a lot. You know, because of the route their acting careers took...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 00:55, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. I am impressed by the amount of thought that goes into people's contribution to the RfA process, and humbled that so many have chosen to trust me with this new responsibility. Hello, I am contacting you because you're a member of the League of Copyeditors. Comment on Mall's talk page
PedroKeeper, I posted a long comment here, which somewhat addresses you and Keeper Pedro in addition to Malleus. It's likely you'll find it on your own, just posting here to be prudent. I also hope this isn't first news you see that his RfA hasn't started out highly successfully... but who knows maybe it will have turned around by the time you read this. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 21:37, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Hey Keep, hope you were able to read my long comment to Mall. Despite his suggestion as to my vote in his response, I believe I'm just gonna stick with the silent neutral in the case. The reason? I have to say I am beyond confused on this RfA, for so many reasons. It's funny, I had a 2000 byte follow up response to Mall... which I read a few times, then erased (never posted), and stepped away. I'm glad he seems to be OK with everything, hope you are too. Adminship
There are many editors such as Fritz Poll and myself who have turned down adminship. I have 154,000 edits but still haven't been made an admin. This is partly due to the reaosn I try to solely concentrate on encyclopedia content. My RfA
I've just looked at the latest tally, and I have to say that I'm taking some encouragement from the fact that although it has the highest number of opposes of any of the current candidates, it's still keeping its head above water at over 50%. It's possible though that I'm looking at this the wrong way. If I am, please don't wake me up.  --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 23:54, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- You're taking this a lot better than I am. You deserve to be able to see and do what I can do. If I was able to give you my "extra tools", I would. The opposers, with few exceptions, and in my opinion, are rehashing old shit. You are obviously and completely dedicated to making this a world-class encyclopedia. Que sera, as you've said. I sincerely thought you would pass, with obvious yet minimal (and predictable) opposition. You're taking this way better than I am. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 00:06, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's no more or less than I expected to be honest. I don't fit the mould (do you guys spell that mold?) of the archetypal wikpedia administrator, and I very likely never will, at least not until Hell becomes exothermic. I'm still interested to see how the whole thing plays out though. If I had thought that there was even the slightest chance that I would get upset over this, then I'd never have agreed to it. I'm really not bothered whichever way it turns out. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 00:18, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm glad you're not bothered. I'm bothered. You've been doing this Wikipedia crap longer than me, and better than me. You should be able to see deleted pages, and unwatchlisted pages. You should be able to block vandals, and all the other crap that comes with adminship. I would have never pushed you into this if I didn't think it would pass. It likely won't pass at this point, and I owe you my sincerest apologies, not for the heartbreak (again, you're taking this way better than I am), but for the distraction. My apologies Malleus. I'm glad you've asserted that you won't leave because of RFA #2, wrought out of my own insistence. Sincerely, I'm glad. Whether it passes or not (and it likely won't), I'm glad you're willing to let it ride out to the end (You never know, right?). Once we're both on the other side, you can go back to making Wikipedia better through FA and GA, and I can go back to whatever it is I do here, which I'm starting to wonder about. (Look at my recent contribs, you'll know what I mean)...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 00:23, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- You give up too easily. It's not over until the fat man sings. I'll admit that it has been a distraction though, so I may need a bit of a jolt to spot any more "optional" questions. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 00:37, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not very good at subtlety - I really do need to be lumped on the noggin sometimes - so you'll need to give me a clue as to what I ought to be looking for in your contributions. I will say just say one thing though, as someone who's been around wikipedia just a bit longer than you have. Sooner or later most editors realise that wikipedia is potentially a bottomless pit that will suck as much out of you as it can and discard you when you've burned out. And especially as an administrator I can well imagine that the net daily account of "thank yous" to "f*** yous" is almost always going to be on the debit side, and that's bound to take its toll. So I'd recommend my approach to anyone; do whatever you think is right and b****r the consequences. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, what matters is what you think.
- And on that note, to start tomorrow's ledger off on the credit side, I'm going to thank you for encouraging me to start RfA#2. I don't care what the final outcome is, and neither should you.
My recent RfA
Thank you for supporting my RfA, which unfortunately didn't succeed. The majority of the opposes stated that I needed more experience in the main namespace and Wikipedia namespace and talk space, so that is what I will do. I have made a list and I hope I will be able to get through it. I will go for another RfA in about three month's time and I hope you will be able to support me then as well. If you have any other comments for me or wish to be notified when I go for another RfA, please leave them on my talk page. If you wish to nominate me for my next RfA, please wait until it has been about three months. I will not be checking back to this page so if you would like to comment or reply please use my talk page. Thanks again for participating in my RfA! ·Add§hore· Talk/Cont 06:32, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I hadn't read the part of the Wikipedia Manual of Style, on article title capitilazation, so this barnstar is for you for reverting my move of the non-renewable resources page when I didn't know what I was doing. On to other things...
Hey Keep. I've got a question for you. Take a look at this article and articles for surrounding years. Should articles be created in this manner? There is some potential for data to be added, and an AfD wouldn't really be about notability. So... should all these articles (possibly 1k+) be created with empty data, to allow people to add. Rather, not should they be created, but should they stay as empty like this? Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:19, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Interesting, posting here to say I'm looking into it to offer an opinion. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 16:33, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, and just to clarify, this is meant to be a conversation for discussion's sake. I don't intend to start sending these to AfD. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:36, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- My initial thoughts, generally speaking, is that articles shouldn't be created "empty", if only because they'll get CSD'd. An article like 526 in poetry is as useless as a bluelink as it is as a redlink like so many of the other years listed in List of years in poetry. They should be created when they have at least something to say. A good example of an editor that does a lot of "one liners" The Right WayTM is the editor above this post, Blofeld of Spectre. Usually (at least where I've seen it) with geographic articles on villages/towns/communes in Europe, he will begin an article that consists, at least textually, of Village x is a village in Country Y. Perfectly acceptable in my opinion, as building a framework for further contribs. But empty ones, like the poetry ones from the 6th century seem to take it to a new extreme. Again, they don't do anything that a redlink in a list isn't already accomplishing. I personally would delete the empty ones (for example, the one you linked was created 6 months ago. Never touched since. Should go back to being a red link until something can be added). Those are my initial thoughts anyway. I've never been too active on the "lists of this by year" and "List of that by year" articles, so I'm unaware if there was ever any consensus driven discussion as to the merits of building up the bluelinks or not. It could've already reached consensus for all I know (not that it couldn't change, just simply that our conversation here likely hasn't changed it). Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 16:43, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- You want to see some one line geographical articles - look at my talk page: if the bot we're designing gets approved, there'll be tens of thousands of them. Sorry to butt in - the subject caught my eye because when I started doing RC and New Page patrol, I was a little overzealous on empty articles. Whilst I now just mark them patrolled, watchlist them and wait a quarter of an hour before tagging, I'd agree that there's no point having an article as a placeholder with no text. That said, delete too quickly, and I've come to realise that people who don't know all the "rules" just seem to become disheartened. It's a tricky business, this Fritzpoll (talk) 16:49, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- I was just reading (in complete awe) what you and blofeld are discussing while you were typing here. Way way way over keeper's little technologically retarded mind. Best of luck with that, and know that I'm thoroughly impressed. If either of you need an administrator level assistance (besides RfA nominations:-), consider me an ally and an admin willing to help. I have no credentials or sway in bot-land/BAG approval, but if you need anything else, give me a holler - Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 16:53, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- You and your RfA noms! :-) Isn't two on the go at once enough? The only admin related thing I'd want right this moment is access to Special:UnwatchedPages. Thanks for the offer - you may come to regret it :-P Fritzpoll (talk) 17:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- (e/c)Right, I agree with both of you. Where a virtually empty article is created with the strong potential of being built up, it should stay. Furthermore, the very creation of those said articles will likely encourage building (like articles for small towns, rivers, etc). On the other hand, 1000+ articles on what happened in poetry with minimal likelihood for anything to be added in most of them, don't help. In a way, they can hurt, because all of those blue links waste people's times when they go to look for info on the subject. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:56, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, and one logical leap further says that if the red link encourages article building, the blue link risks discouraging people Fritzpoll (talk) 17:00, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Holy Mackarel, Mother of Cod... I just looked over there too. Interesting stuff. Quick Q... has a bot ever been approved prior which actually creates (the basis of) articles?Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 16:58, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Not sure which bot, not sure of any of this actually. But willing to help wherever with my ill-gotten and undeserved tools.:-) Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:02, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

- And, Fritz, to clarify, I have three noms at RfA right now. Wikipedia needs more admins to keep up with workload and backlogs, and more importantly, to be able to do the things that I can do, thereby freeing my talkpage from requests of good editors that should be trusted to work their way around Wikipedia freely like I can. Deleted pages, unwatched pages, all invaluable. I'm not looking for "AIV reporters", I'm looking for dedicated encyclopedia builders that understand policy, show a willingness to learn what they don't already know, and for the right reasons. There are a half dozen editors that I've been bugging to run, two caved in this week (and the other nom I stumbled into). If I see a good candidate, I pester them until they cave in. Fritzpoll and Gwynand, you're both in my cross hairs right now. Blofeld too, depending on how he answers my questions above about what he feels his viability would be at RfA...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:07, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- (e/c)Well, our last discussion is still on my talkpage, and I'm not sure much has changed since then. If nothing else, I know I have some bad contributions (duff CSD tags, mostly) from when I started out. Having watched a fair few RfAs, I'm pretty certain that there are folk who wouldn't be happy if I ran now. Fritzpoll (talk) 17:11, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- Meh. Anyone that opposes based on an early CSD tag needs better things to do. Take a look at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Travellingcari. The two !opposes that gathered ignited a firestorm of supports. She had the exact same reservation that you have. She did have more edits though, around 6K. What was your count? (I detest edit count opposes, but they happen...) I think you'd be pleasantly surprised at RfA. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:14, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- ...and besides that, unanimous support RfAs worry me. Surely someone has come into conflict with something you did? If not, why aren't you doing anything on Wikipedia?...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:15, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- My preferences page says 3340, but I'm willing to bet I've had hundreds deleted - so many CSD, PROD, AfD, and I always tried to answer questions on the article talk pages, so they got deleted too. Combine that with a tendency to edit all in one go (like at Nonlocality) and my editcount trickles slowly up. My mainspace edits are probably the more worrying. Feel free to have a look. Fritzpoll (talk) 17:21, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

- (e/c)Keep, I think was at 850 or so edits when you first suggested, now I'm closing in on 1,400. I won't accept any nomination when I've barely crossed the 2k mark either, but I'll certainly sit down and consider ... being considered... sometime in the future. Oh, and from all the interactions I've had with Fritz, including the good and highly civil work he did regarding notability of crime victims, I think he'd be a great candidate. Of course I'd do my regular intense scrutiny of edits (half joking, half not :))), but yeah, he looks good. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 17:15, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

- I think he's been approached about that several times, but I'm not sure. "no problems here" and "per the above" are about it from him. Looking at his contributions list, over 90% (probably closer to 100%) of his total contribs have been exclusively to RfAs. I don't think much will change. a classic arbitrary break, as seen...everywhere
I mentioned above about Special:UnwatchedPages. Obviously, as a non-admin, I can't see them (and rightly so) but I quite like the idea of taking some unloved articles and either a) getting people interested in them by categorising/tagging them or b) even better, fixing them up, as they might be in a bit of a state. Are you allowed to hand any of the names out? If it can't be on-wiki, you can e-mail me...on the other hand, if it's strictly admins-only, that's fine too Fritzpoll (talk) 20:16, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see the problem with bluelinking a few pages to a trusted user. There's been a lot of discussion at the talkpage, and I agree it should be admin only, but a good case is put there for "trusted user" too. I can see this ability being implemented, if proposed correctly, similarly to rollback. A great thing for vandal fighters certainly. That said, there are thousands of pages. Do you want a topic sorted list? A lot of it is absolute crap (excuse my language) and meaningless redirects, but I can hand select a few in certain areas. I'll post them to a subpage of yours in a chunk if you want to give me a general direction of interest. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:21, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Obviously can't look after them all on my own, so it might be worth trying to (loosely speaking) categorise them, and find appropriate homes for them at Wikiprojects with other users who are more familiar with the material. Of course, we could slightly automate the watchlisting process...probably.....well, I'll do one bot at a time Fritzpoll (talk) 22:05, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

- Ah, dang! That's an excellent answer! Well phrased, well thought out, philosophical yet practical. Absolutely fantastic. I put my plug in for your bot (hope it helps more than hurts). Do you want to run an RfA at the same time as your bot approval process? That seems incredibly stressful, but if you wish, I'll add my nom and transclude it yesterday. You are already an admin, you just need the extra buttons, which are great fun. I'm a firm believer that long term, dedicated users should have the extra buttons, to be able to move about as freely as possible, and do what needs to be done for the betterment of Wikipedia. I do not expect that you'll start blocking users from AIV reports. Meh. That's boring. I fully expect that you'll continue doing what you do best. Building bots/creating valuable discussions/proposing guideline and policy changes/building an encyclopedia. You are excellent at this, Fritzpoll. You know exactly why we're here, and why you're here. I will look back fondly on the day where I will get to say, "yeah, Fritzpoll, isn't he great? I helped make him an admin you know..." I might like to co-nom this. I've never nominated anyone before, but think this might be a time I would consider it. - Well I used to use the retaliation that at least when they buy them, they win (vs. 92 Mets and Red Sox who are equally guilty) but that doesn't work so much any more. Problem with this team... Hanky Poo doesn't know what he's doing and doesn't trust his people to know their jobs. George was loud but basically all bluff. He trusted Stick and Cashman. That said, '96 was almost home grown: Jeter, Posada, Andy, Mo, Bernie, etc. I think lately they've stripped their farm team which is why they don't have the depth they used to. That aside, I don't get the buying=evil argumentm, if you've got it -- might as well spend it. I'm curious to see what will happen when/if the Sons sell as is currently rumoured. I want someone who is willing to spend to win. They're my Yankees and I love them, but I don't want a repeate of the 80s. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 17:20, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Just to answer your question seriously, IF you gave me a chance to revote on Tan's first RfA, I probably would have gone Neutral on it... still due to lack of experience issues. When he goes up for RfA now, he will have met the magic 6 month of active editing figure, which is about my minimum. (To Keep) Whoops, I meant I specifically agreed with this part of Balloon's statement: "As for xxx, he should probably pass as well, but that doesn't mean that I'll support". Brain in a Jar (Dungeons & Dragons)
Hello! :) In March, Brain in a Jar (Dungeons & Dragons) was nominated for deletion. At the time, there was no suitable page for this article to be redirected to, so based on the consensus, you deleted the article. I have created a new page, List of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition monsters, which would be a proper destination to merge and/or redirect the article to. I'm wondering if it's possible to restore the original article, and turn it into a redirect, thus preserving the edit history? BOZ (talk) 20:04, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Done, history restored, I'll leave you to do the redirecting. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 20:09, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Adminship
Hi I'm flattered at the nomination thankyou. Well you see I have been nominated many times but I have always turned it down because I have always chosen to focus entirely on encyclopedic content. I have always been under the impression that being an adminship would be a burden and prevent me from concnetrating on the encyclopedia. However at times it does seme ridiculous that I haven't got certain tools given the work I do here. I have created around 25,000 articles for wikipedia about twice as many as anybody else I think so my dedication to the project is without a doubt. However I may just think it might be time to acceot but I'll need a think about it OK? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 21:02, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I'm declining the offer. Thanks for the invite but as I've said all along I'm not the sort who plays by every "wikipedia rule" under the book. Sure I could use the tools for maintenance issues every now and again but too many people who I've had past differences with will turn out and try to make me out as the worst person ever. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 10:07, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for your kinds words, you;ve said it exactly. It does seem a bit odd to me that I have to answer all sorts of "silly quesitons" just to make other editors happy with me and go through a grilling and evidence gathering section of why I might not be one of the most experienced editors on here with 154,000 edits. I don't feel I have anything to prove to people, my contribution speaks for itself. It is always nice that many people recognise and congratulate me for my work, this is always very welcome but I know what I have done or am capable of and that really is all that matters. I could use a few extra buttons though for maintenance tasks which would be very beneficial. Perhaps something could be done in the future towards this. Yes I also hope Fritz Bot works out too! ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:21, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Greetings from La La Land!
Keep! What's the deal, cousin? Its been a good minute since we last spoke, hasn't it? Nothing really new on the dark side of the Wiki-world, but I've been trying to stay out of trouble for the most part. I think that trout ya hit me with has kept me on the straight and narrow. Other then that, nothing good to speak of on the New York sports front lately. So how have things been - in the Wiki-world and other? --Endless Dan 13:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, this is awesome. I'm glad becoming a jake hasn't soured your sense of humor. Not naming names, but I find that to be a rarity amongst many of your peeps. I'm glad someone is still excited about beisbol. There seams to be a black cloud hanging over New York baseball. I still believe the Yanks will be competing for their spot in playoffs in late Summer, but I'm unsure about some of the moves we've made, haven't made and are going to make. But in Joe, er, Joe we trust. I've liked the moves and picks that your boys have made so far. In the NFCE, my boys still get no respect. You'd think that beautiful chocolate man Jerry Reese would exonerated from any error or question, but he's not. The NFL pundits have the ol' Cowgirls ahead of us in pre-season power rankings (I won't even get into how egregious those things are). I will take great satisfaction in watching their scientific progress go "Boink" (again, hopefully). Of course, we've got our own potential problems but it's all gravy till then.--Endless Dan 16:00, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

- An excellent block, IMO. We should both watch the contribs of said user, if he repeats again, (keeping in mind its likely a high school kid, and so likely is the other random person hie is "threatening"), I would say a checkuser to find out what school he's editing from could be in order. US schools particularly take stuff like that incredibly seriously. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:55, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've been thinking about this. User:WifeOfPedro (who is legally trained) has said that erring on the side of caution may be best. Maybe a polite note to a CU to see if they can ascertain if this is a school IP may be needed. *sigh* I was hoping to RBI this to be honest. But we must do what is right, with the minimum of fuss and drama Pedro : Chat 16:53, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- If it isn't sitting right with you to RBI, then use that hindsight and find a CU. Tis much better to have that hindsight than to find out about a tragedy afterwards and have to live with that hindsight. I don't think it needs anything super official. But it's so obvious that he's a high school student. From what I can ascertain, he's in the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania area. His full name (and his "girlfriend's" are in deleted contribs), and so is the first/last name of the person he threatened. Also, looking closely, you can even narrow it down to a place of birth for the +Cass part, and a birthdate. If a checkuser comes up no where near that, or at an non-school IP, we move on. If it's coming from a school computer lab, I think an email to the tech person/responsible district may be in order. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 16:57, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- As an FYI, the place of birth for +Cass was misspelled. Try separating the town name into two words, and dropping the "e" off the end. We have an article on the town. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:01, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Quick note
Just wanted to say thanks for pushing me into the RfA - regardless of outcome, it's quite invigorating (I'm doing this now because after another few days' of this, I might not be feeling so benevolent!) and even the questions are quite interesting. Although Filll has just added the AGF challenge questions, which will take an age to answer...never mind. Obviously tied up with this at the bot for the next 4 days 19hours and some minutes (I'm not keeping track) but could you just dump all those unwatched asteroid articles onto my subpage so I can watch them - I managed to offload the skyscraper one to their project and want to try something similar with these and The Astronomy wikiproject... Fritzpoll (talk) 18:19, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- You don't have to answer all eight of those questions, or any of them. I might read the use of "optional" very literally in this case. That is kind of a massive tack on. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 18:24, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I saw Filll's question. Meh, I've made my peace with the addition of that particular style of questioning, I fought against it rather volatilely (is that a word?) last time I saw them. You'll do fine with it, keeping in mind that whatever you say, someone will disagree with something you say. That's the design of the questions in some instances. Do some research, answer carefully if you choose to answer (and Gwynand is right-it's massive, and optional. Maybe give it a day, not like your not busy with botapproval...) I'll look to getting you more from unwatched...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:27, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Also, check out this RfA, specifically the candidate's answer to Q4 and the following issues with it, not just the answer but the question. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 18:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Philosopher!. I couldn't think which RfA it was (didn't I tell you it would be long forgotten soon enough?). Yeah, that's where I was battling. Read my Support #8, and also read the solid discussion on the RfA talk of that particular Rfa. Glad that one's over....Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:32, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- (e/c)Yeah, I watched the progress of Philosopher's RfA at the time (I have far too much stuff in my watchlist). I'll have a look at the questions over the next couple of days. Cheers to you both Fritzpoll (talk) 18:33, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Actually, it looks like its a new set of questions, without a question that really requires specific legal commentary. Either way, I just posted a message over at Filll's talk page, suggesting he slim down the request, the idea being that it is doubtful the community will go through all 8 questions and all 8 answers anyways. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 18:40, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Gwynand, that was done very tactfully, and effectively! Very impressed. I'm sure F-poll will be grateful for your extra effort there, I saw the change on the RfA...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:56, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- No prob. Filll is reasonable, I didn't think it would be a big deal. I'm also questioning him about his instructions. It seems that he is suggesting Fritz answer the questions on a separate page (I guess per the challenge rules), then link to them. I think he will clarify. I think questions really need to be answered on the actual RfA page. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 18:59, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

<outdent> Thanks Gwyn - that does make the job 4 times easier! To Keep: Thanks for the extra pages - have them watchlisted and will process them whilst I'm meant to be running an experiment tomorrow (actually, I've automated the experiment bot-style) - if and when you do it again, don't hassle about the wikilinking - I dropped the names into the raw watchlist, and actually ended up having to remove the wikilinking. I'm not entirely comfortable with the connotations of that, but I am very familiar (having a 2.5 yr old at home) with "disguised language". - I think I may have as much experience as most with potentially ego-bruising RfAs, and let's face it, failure at anything is potentially an ego-bruiser. The conventional advice is to think carefully about the points made by all of your opposers, hang around in whatever corners of wikipedia's dark, dusty, and dank admin world it's been claimed that you have no experience of, keep your nose clean for three months or so, and then go into your next RfA having confessed to all of your previous sins, and with the absolution of as high-profile a nominator as you can persuade to support you. Another editor, who I know off-wiki, made personal statements about me during this AfD. Hes done this before, once in 2006 on ANI, and again either on my talk page or his. But this time, theres no way to prove who said what, and if he found out I was running again (RfA), he would have mentioned the AfD that was going on at the same time. So I quickly withdrew the AfD, and then the RfA as seen from my contributions. Something like this on my RfA would NOT look good. Especially since I told him that if he keeps vandalizing my userpage (once), or spamming my talk page (twice, the first time another editor stepped in before i could to tell him to stop spamming, and the second he was logged out, only using his ip), that he could be blocked by it, and to never sign out to vandalize, because thats an ip block, and most likely will result in the username blocked as well (i'm not at all too sure about it though). But like I said, its all he said he said. SynergeticMaggot (talk) 22:03, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Beanie Baby of the Month
The article Beanie Baby of the Month was deleted without giving a fair chance to discuss it. It was done behind my back when I was not even aware of it. It was {{Underconstruction}} and not enough time was given enough time to add more references. I am asking that you bring back the article now, or at least, place it on a subpage of my user talk. Just be aware, even if an AFD includes 100 deletes, one person's valid points should be enough to keep an article. Xyz7890 (talk) 22:02, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- If 100 people say delete, and only one says keep, that's not enough to keep, per longstanding Wikipedia consensus rules. However, I'm not completely convinced that the article ought to remain deleted (I merely closed the debate, I never gave my opinion). Do you have any reputable, third party sources that explain/detail why this particular sub-article merits its own Wiki-page? I'm going offline in a few minutes here, but I'll check back here in the morning. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:05, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, Keeper. I came to tell you that you didn't actually delete the article nominated in this AfD, as it was moved during the AfD to Clubby Beanie Babies, here. While I'm here, I might as well try to explain to Xyz7890 why the deletion of Beanie Baby of the Month was discussed in the AfD.
- At the time Beanie Babies Official Club was nominated for deletion, before it was moved to Clubby Beanie Babies, the contents which you wrote were "The Beanie Baby of the Month program is a program in which members can enroll to receive a Beanie Baby by mail each month for a 12-month period. Those who enter are enrolled for one year, and membership may be renewed after the year is up[1]. The Beanie Babies of the Month were as follows:" (cut table). (That's here until the article is deleted.) The new article you created at Beanie Baby of the Month was initiated as "The Beanie Baby of the Month program is a program in which members can enroll to receive a Beanie Baby by mail each month for a 12-month period. Those who enter are enrolled for one year, and membership may be renewed after the year is up[1]. The Beanie Babies of the Month were as follows:" (cut table). Copying the content of an article under a deletion discussion to a new title will not save it from deletion. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 22:26, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- I have deleted the article that got moved during the AfD, but am heading off line. If you feel the deletion did not match the afd close, please feel free to undo my deletion - you closed the thing, after all. Otherwise, XYZ can take the thing to WP:DRV if he wants to re-create the material from the AfD. Pastordavid (talk) 23:37, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, MRG, and Pastor! As far as I can tell from the redlinks, everything that was supposed to be deleted has now been deleted. My apologies for not getting everything in my web. Please let me know if I've missed anything that was supposed to be deleted as the result of the AfD, and also, please let me know if anything goes to DRV. If you have any Qs on anything, of course feel free to ask them here on my little forum, I'm sure someone will answer your queries correctly before I can come in and bugger them up. :-) Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 14:48, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Email Q
Hey Keep. Just to clarify what you say on your userpage, you definitely will not ever use email and IRC, or just IRC? I think you've explained this before, I forget. Please don't feel obligated to respond to this or further explain. Reasons this came up... I just created my anon wiki email the other day, and just saw something regarding another user that I wanted to ask about (I think you know), but looks like email would be the only appropriate way to discuss this. Anywho, don't mind me. Phillies scored 20 runs last night... woo hoo! Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 21:34, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- I definitely will not ever use IRC, I find it completely useless, caballish, and unnecessary. I'm getting more and more torn about e-mail, however. Right now, I have no desire to do anything e-mail related, and I am technically restricted at my primary editing PC (I edit almost exclusively from work). I know "that of which you speak", and I'd love to send an email right now, but it's one of the sacrifices I'm willing to make. If/when I ever get an email, I'll put a big banner up on the top of my talkpage. May I never lose my password....Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- And go Phillies! May they knock the Mets on their respective butts once again! Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 21:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- We are on the same page with IRC, and I also can't check email from my primary editing PC. I thought I'd have one for only certain rare occasions, not to discuss how I feel about an RfA candidate or anything. If the Phillies bats live up to their talent, and the five starters settle in, helloooooo October. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 22:00, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- When I say "primary editing PC", I mean 99.99%. If I had email enabled, I literally would go weeks without being able to check it, therefore making it rather irrelevant. I find it much easier to just not have it enabled. It avoids hurt feelings, it avoids delays, and frankly, it keeps me outta trouble. Go Twins, who will also make it to October (calling it now and saving this diff for an "I told you so" later), and will likely knock the Phillies outta the world series if they do in fact meet. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:03, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Quick question
Having recently been hauled over the coals for using the apparently "highly uncivil" term wikilawyer, I'm inclined to construct a WikiSpeakDictionary. Would that be another blockable offence under current wikilegislation? My motivation is that there are far too many good editors being bullied by far too many poor administrators. No names, no pack drill. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 22:17, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Do it. I'll endorse it. I completely agree that there are many bad admins. Some of them have good intentions, but the "technicalities" of the adminship bit are getting in the way of the common sense that they used before they were admins. I of course watch your talkpage, and I saw you're Wikilink to Newspeak. Do it. I'll endorse it. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 22:19, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Shame the word Wiktionary's already taken, really... I absolutely & wholeheartedly support the idea. You may also want to point out Wikipedia's least-enforced policy (which I admit I'm occasionally guilty of breaking as well). Good call on declining a speedy?
first call I was hesitating on so I figured I'd ask for your (or whoever feels like commenting) feedback. I declined this speedy since I know schools aren't A7 eligible and didn't think they were speedy eligible at all except in blatant pure vandalism. This also didn't seem too spammy and a two-second google found some possible sourcing. I'm not sure it would pass an AfD but I don't think it was speedy eligible. Thoughts? Thanks! TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 01:21, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Excellent call declining. I almost always automatically decline speedy on any school, because being a school (even a small private "college" like that one, a diploma-mill most likely, is at the very least an assertion of notability. Unless its a hoax/doesn't exist/or is fictional, a speedy isn't appropriate. Keep an eye on it, slap some cites on it if you can find some that show notability beyond "we exist and you can pay us for your 2 year diploma", bring it to AfD, or even PROD it. Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 14:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. As I told Barneca when s/he left an unrelated comment on my talk page, I was almost afraid to click the orange bar for fear it was about a mistake. Does that nervousness go away? Your trust
Hello, Keeper76. I know you remember our last conversation, right? You said you didn't trust me anymore. I was asking if I could have second chance for your trust back. I'm sorry for my copyvios which you thought was my work, more specifically baseball uniform, giving me a barnstar for thinking I wrote all that. I did right most of the part, but the rest I was just trying to reword it. I can really do better than that. I can write a decent article like "baseball uniform," I just can't find a good topic on (which is pretty hard deciding on). I have learned from my mistake. I'm truly sorry for what I did, and I am willing to revoke that barnstar you awarded me. I don't deserve it. Your not my keeper, adopter, or anything like that. I just trust you and I was hoping if you could trust me again and help me out if I need some advice. So, can you trust me again? -- RyRy5 (talk) 01:26, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely. I trust you Ryan. Keep on keepin on. I'll be offline here for a few hours (12-14), but I'm glad you've stuck around and are willing to improve yourself as an editor. Looking forward to working with you again! Cheers, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 01:29, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you. :) But should I revoke that barnstar? I don't think I deserve it, mainly the part about baseball uniform. --RyRy5 (talk) 01:30, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- You can do what you want with the barnstar. I'm personally not a big fan of barnstars, especially those that are "earned" and not "received" (do you get the difference?). It's up to you to do what you want with your own userpages. I refuse to remove it myself. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 01:33, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

What, if anything, are we going to do as far as this goes? Thoughts, opinions, or do we want to restart or start where we left off? Dusticomplain/compliment 12:27, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Want to bounce this off some other people
Hi Keeper! I've enjoyed some playing with my shiny buttons, but I'm trying to get on with the project I originally promised to undertake within my RfA - clearing up the unwatched page situation. I've been mulling over how best to do this, and hopefully you (or the masses who watch your page) can make suggestions:
I can extract the unwatched articles fairly rapidly using a copy and paste into my raw watchlist, so that they are watched, which is essential before the next step. In the next step, I will have a series of pages (probably in my userspace - not sure project space is appropriate for this) where I can drop the lists of articles by Wikiproject (so a separate page for Wikiproject Astronomy, Wikiproject Skyscaper, etc). I can then drop a line to the relevant projects asking them to dorp by the page and watchlist the articles.
With the articles you extracted for me pre/mid-RfA, I've had a good success rate on getting them watched, and even edited again, so I'm convinced that the Wikiproject route is the way to go. My only concern is dumping 1000s of articles on my watchlist whilst I wait for them to be claimed. I could alternatively use my bot account as a holder (no intention to edit on that account) or I could create an alternative account, like User:Fritzpoll2, just so that I don't swamp my own watchlists with articles I've no interest in editing.
Not sure what's best here. What do you think Fritzpoll (talk) 14:15, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- The Wikiproject route is a good way to go, glad it's working for you (and also very glad you can get at the articles yerself :-) I would say creating a non-admin "secondary" account is a good idea, actually quite commonly done (usually so that admin accounts are more secure, for example folks will have "public computer account".) Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 14:19, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- As you can see, it's now bluelinked, and I'll follow that route. Cheers Fritzpoll (talk) 23:09, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
By coincidence I just asked Jza84 if there were any of the Greater Manchester project tagged articles unwatched, so I think contacting the wikiprojects is a great idea. --Malleus Fatuorum (talk) 23:49, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Belozan (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) Question for you, is 'user continues to remove content attributed to reliable sources and replaces with (presumably} his own website' grounds for anything? Obviously I wouldn't do anything because I'm involved on the article but is it report worthy to AIV for spam? It's a clear SPA, he was the creator and has been spamming elsewhere. It's not vandalism and it's not a promotional username, but it's spammy. Does it land under anything? Thanks! Then a troll came along and commented on the ANI thread, and it turns out that troll was a whole continent away. I noticed Astral's not blocked, which is good, but it's a shame that he's retired. He did a lot of good things for Wikipedia, got caught up in the Kmweber/RFA drama net, went a bit overboard with an altaccount, and is now probably more embarassed than anything (at least I would be). Your input, please?
I am sorry to bother, but I would appreciate if you could please look into this matter: [8]. There appears to be an Admin who is behaving in what I see as an obnoxious and hostile manner towards someone that he blocked. Whether the block is justified or not is not my concern. What I am concerned about is a possibly blatant violation of WP:Civil that this Admin is showing to the editor. I've had previous problems with this Admin, so I am worried that this is not an aberration. Please let me know if this is something you can provide assistance with, or if there is another channel where a complaint can be raised. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 15:24, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- I noticed a couple of admins there on that talkpage. I'm unfamiliar with the whole situation, but I do recognize that user's name as it is quite frequently showing up on Administrator's noticeboards. Are you talking about Metros as the admin? Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:32, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- In my uninvolved opinion, everything looks fine to me. Gp75 can advertise an injury and email Metros all he wants, but it's not uncivil of Metros to not respond to that. He even states quite clearly that the emails aren't asking for anything or really discussing anything. GP75 might want sympathy on his page, but it's not Metro's fault that he isn't receiving it. Metro is interacting there and explaining the issues, maybe sternly, but accurately. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 15:35, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- That's kinda what I'm gathering as well. I've had good experiences with Metros. If anything, I think GP has likely frayed some nerves there eco. He has been very trying on people's patience levels, and I don't blame Metros for not responding to an email if he's trying to move on. Leaving GP a smile was a nice thing to do though, nice work, Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Much as I did get on with GP75 he has exhausted the communities patience. Just look at his block log. Metros is a sound admin, who clearly has had the courtesy to keep GP75's talk watchlisted during his current block, when he easily could have totally ignored it. I don't think there's an issue here. I respectfully disagree about "stern" warnings. As I see it, these comments by Metros are not in keeping with the nature of WP:Civil:
“Because why the hell do I care that you sliced your finger?”
“What'd you want? A card signed by everyone saying "We hope that you have a speedy recovery so that you can return soon as a non-productive editor who proves again and again why he is on a topic ban"? The reason you're not getting piles upon piles of "get well soon" notices is that you haven't earned the respect of other users.”
“You do realize that your next block is going to be fairly long, right? Probably in the 3-6 months to a year to possibly indefinite range. So when that block expires, you better become a productive user who doesn't have all these "accidents" and "mistakes" that you keep experiencing.”
That language is obnoxious and mean-spirited – and that third quote is a blatant threat (I thought blocking wasn’t supposed to be used to punish people). I’ve had my own concerns with Metros, which is why I was worried that this is not an aberration. I hate to see people addressed in such a crass and demeaning manner. This is why I am bringing it to your attention, with the request for intervention. Perhaps Metros should just stay away from this editor and focus elsewhere? Ecoleetage (talk) 15:45, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- No, those are reasonable responses, he's actually just being totally honest. The last one is not a "threat", just an accurate statement of facts and actually a statement that GP would benefit from if he took it to heart. I know you are trying to help Ecol, but GP75 needs encouragement and instruction in solid, non-disruptive editing, not getting caught up in needless arguments with admins or anyone. Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 15:49, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've been keeping an eye on this as I chimed in regarding the GP75 adopting issue, in my opinion, using the WP email system to send someone a note that they cut their finger isn't really an appropriate thing to do in the first place. Emails should be used for urgent confidential matters that can't be handled on-wiki. xenocidic (talk) 15:50, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I've not been speaking English very long, but I do know that something like “Because why the hell do I care that you sliced your finger?” or "you haven't earned the respect of others" are not very polite things to say. I think it might make sense if Metros and GP75 just stopped communicating with each other, and if another admin came in to actually "work" with GP75 (and not bait him on, which I am seeing here). Unless GP75 created a heinous crime, he deserves to be shown respect -- particularly from an admin. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 16:05, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Make sure they're green so they blend in with the grass. Also, get the really thick ones so there's less resistance in the wire (it helps the current flow). If the guy finds the cords, just say something like "Oh, those damn kids and their games! Don't worry ______ I'll sort them out. Sorry about that. - A few relevant links for you Gwynand: Wikipedia:Radio Wikipedia, User talk:StewieGriffin!/TempUsertalk where he moved your message, and User:StewieGriffin!/TempUserpage. And yes, it's him talking, or at least he introduces himself as "real name, known on wikipedia as Stewie Griffin"...it's actually not half bad, but at the same time, bizarre...you'll know what I mean. (And I'm pretty sure I just did some free advertising for him to the hordes that are reading my talkpage...:-) Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh Good Lord. I just listened to that. I'm about to have my first son in three weeks... I really can't do anything more than smile at that. Good for him. What accent is that? Gwynand | Talk•Contribs 18:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- Sounds a touch Irish or Scottish to me, but my midwestern ears think Texans sound funny, so I'm not sure. Could be anything. Could be New Yorkian...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
- And I have to say, I was grinning ear to ear listening. Can't help but like the little guy...kinda like the real Stewie Griffin...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 18:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

- Actually, I've been watching him. He requested with a db-move tag that his page deleted so that he could move his "temptalk" page back over the top of it. Bizarre busy work, but your message wasn't deleted, it was moved to his "temptalk" page. This user has a long history of editing, most of it not very good (sockpuppetry, etc), but is being "reformed" to some degree, although he's asked for and been declined rollback at least twice by me, I find him rather harmless. ← Listening now, reminds me of when I used to run a basement radio programme. Nice job Stewie. I'm concerned about the use of the real name though, per WP:CHILD. xenocidic (talk) 21:20, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
OK this technologically challenged person is feeling left out. What's an .ogg file and how to I play it using a Mac? TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 21:56, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
- Some kind of sound file. Mine plays in Winamp, but I don't think they have that on Mac. Try typing "ogg mac" into Google =) xenocidic (talk) 05:19, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
so they interviewed him on the pre-game this evening. I cannpt believe he's an announcer. Don't remember his debut but I do remember him with the Twinkies in the 80s. Scary. He has the same broken baseball engrish of other commentators. "The Twins have pulled to with 2 games behind and closed to 2nd between the the White Sox" Um?? Good game tonight, I realise you may not have watched it due to whatever is going on, but yeah....can't not talk about this series with you :) TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 03:16, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
mmm...who stole the Yankees' bats today? I wasn't their luck charm, that's why. Didn't get to watch. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 03:26, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Welcome back! Hope all is OK. Watching Friday and Sat... I can't imagine playing in the Dome all season and trying to field fly balls. I used to be a right fielder and *yuck* TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 15:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I ended up "off the grid" in more ways than one, missed Fri and Sat games. Had them DVR'd. On Sun. afternoon I "accidently" started watching the matinee, and good ol' Burt says "Yankees won the first two in the series..." . Pisser. Deleted em both, enjoyed Sunday's game. All's well again in Keeperland, I won't go into details about my sudden covertness...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 15:41, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Figured you wouldn't/couldn't and that's why I didn't ask. Just glad to see you back, safe and sound. I had a good excuse for missing yesterday -- went to the NYC meet-up and met DGG and Enigmaman, among others. Can't believe they're playing tonight -- 6pm is on aodd start time. I'm in awe that you're able to DVR and not get leaked. I've never managed that. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 16:36, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Proof of East Coast bias! :D They're starting at 7:05 Yankees time instead of 7:05 Twins time! I don't really understand. Enigma message 17:23, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Absolutely right E-man. It's 6:05 Central time, because it's assumed that most people watching on FSN (and probably about 30% of the fans in stadium based on cheer levels) are Yankees fans. Sigh. If only the west coast road trip games started at 5pm pacific, then I wouldn't have games starting at 9pm local... Love my small market team though, and the DVR is already set up to catch the beginning (I probably won't get home til the 5th or 6th inning) Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- LOL. I agree. If they're going to start an East Coast bias thing, let's go all the way. Everyone should be forced to play at 7 PM Eastern time instead of the local time. Lakers-Warriors? No more 10:35 Eastern time. You gotta start at 4 PM your time, boys. Enigma message 17:41, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Getting home in the middle of a game is the worst. The only option is to then DVR the entire thing (IOW, not watch when you get home) and then hope you can find time to watch beginning to end without someone telling you the score first. Enigma message 17:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Nah, when I get home, I'll start the (recorded) game from the beginning, and fast forward the commercials. I usually end up ending at the same time as the live game. Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 17:46, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- That's because you get to use these new-fangled devices. I use a VCR from the '60s or so. Thus I'm left with no recourse but to let it finish recording, and then watch from the beginning later. Enigma message 17:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

{Colon farm} it is a 7p EST time, which I consider odd for games in Central Time (or is Minnesota mountain? I don't think so). Either way, not complaining. 8 pm starts I can deal, it's the 10p+ that kill me when I have to get up. I don't like Fri-Mon series because they knock everything off kilter. Supposed to be early on getaway which makes sense for Sunday but not non-holiday Monday. I hate day games in general because I never get to see them and there's the huge SNY ticker between my office and grand Central so I can't not be spoiled. And Enigma, I'm also all about the VCR. DVR is above me TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 19:07, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'm as far away from technological ability as you could possibly fathom, but I'll never go back. DirecTV can triple my rates. I'll piss and moan, and then pay it. I can't imagine life without it, and I don't remember what it was like to watch commercials. I usually record a program (sorry Brits, programme) that I want to see, and start watching it 20 minutes in. After fastforwarding commercials, I end on time). It's a beautiful thing. Also, when I am stuck watching a game (or something else) "live", I can pause it when the phone rings, I can rewind if I missed a joke, or if I just want to see Cabrera fall on his ass in centerfield over and over again while Morneau rounds third and walks across homeplate....over and over again....Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 19:11, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Since I'm being a stickler today, the game is not at "7 PM EST time." It's at 7 PM EDT. :D Enigma message 19:13, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- and because I wasn't home I could have remained blissfully unaware of that. In the end, did that run really matter? Did I tell you that I have Morneau's autograph from when he was playing with the Rochester Red Wings? And Engima, I'll learn one day when we're in and out of daylight savings. Confused me greatly in Australia when I crossed from NSW to QLD - not only is there a time diff between the two states but QLD doesn't do daylight savings. I asked someone for the time ahd she was baffled -- I was wearing a watch but I had _no_ idea. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 19:23, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

This user begrudgingly observes Daylight Saving Time.
- This thread is definitely the highlight of my day :-) I never know what the hell time it is anywhere. Good to see you keeping your chin up E-man, your RFA is Messed Up...Keeper | 76 | Disclaimer 19:35, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
- Nifty box, Enigmaman! I might have to add that once I find a second to balance it out. I'm all about symmetry. Ditto, Keeper. When I lived overseas and my brother was on the evening shift, my parents learnt not to worry about a late night call -- just meant their children didn't know/ccare what time it was.
